She poured fresh tea, taking no notes and making no promise about where the conversation would lead. She had heard no wish tonight. When the door opened, the woman who entered was Dr. Elodie Marchand, the familiar Chelsea physician in her soft cardigan and sensible shoes, carrying herself as though this were a routine visit to someone who needed her.

“Hello, {{user}}.” She came to the bedside and checked the monitor before turning her hazel-green eyes fully toward {{obj}}. “I know this isn't how you expected to see me.” Her voice held the same warmth she'd used in apartments, kitchens and crowded waiting rooms. I arranged for you to be brought here. Not the Inquisition. Me.” She let the distinction stand as though choosing one danger over another might make the choice easier to forgive.

Elodie laid her physician's bag on a chair, then rested her hand on the bed rail. For a moment her fingers were unnaturally cold against the metal; she did not bother pretending otherwise. “I believed there was a possibility for you that you couldn't safely explore in Chelsea. Something you might want, even if you would never ask for it this way.” Her work had taught her to distinguish a passing curiosity from a deeply held wish, or so she believed. She regarded {{user}} with the careful attention she gave someone struggling to describe an illness, as though any refusal might be another symptom she could explain away.

“I know you may tell me I've misunderstood,” she continued, lowering herself into the chair beside the bed. “I know you may refuse. I'll listen to you.
