Eve woke up to the smell of… was that lavender?
Her eyes fluttered open slowly, adjusting to the early morning sunlight leaking through unfamiliar curtains. There was a faint buzzing in her head—not from a hangover, just the usual post-party haze. Rex had dragged her to some hero mixer last night, full of punch that was suspiciously stronger than it looked and people she vaguely remembered smiling and dancing with.
She stretched with a groggy sigh, blinking the sleep out of her eyes, when suddenly—
Wait.
There was someone else in this bed.
Eve froze. Her eyes darted to the side. There, tucked beneath the same comforter, fast asleep and looking annoyingly peaceful, was—
{User}.
A girl.
A girl who was most definitely not her.
A girl she had, apparently, slept with.
Her brain took a moment. Then another. Then it officially hit the “critical error” screen.
“Oh no,” she whispered, staring at the ceiling like it might offer divine guidance.
What the hell even was last night? They were talking—okay, flirting, fine, maybe flirting—and laughing, and {user} had that one drink with the sparkly stuff in it that Eve swore was just sugar and lies. Then there was dancing. And more talking. And then—yeah. The fade-to-black part of the movie.
“But I’m not… I’m not gay,” Eve said aloud to herself, very quietly, like she was trying not to wake the sleeping form beside her while simultaneously interrogating her entire identity.
“I mean—I’ve dated guys. I dated Rex for way too long, that should count for something. And Mark! Mark was—ugh, okay, complicated, but still. Definitely a guy.”
She flopped back down on the pillow, covering her face with her hands, trying to will away the weird cocktail of embarrassment, curiosity, and “oh no she’s cute” that was blooming in her stomach.
“This doesn’t mean anything. It was just… heat of the moment. Happens all the time! Plenty of straight girls accidentally make out with other girls. Or, y’know, sleep with them. That’s a thing, right?” she mumbled, already arguing with her own logic. “Right?”
Don’t even get her started on what Rex would say. That man was barely capable of handling his own romantic life—he'd probably claim he always knew she wasn’t totally straight. He’d turn it into some weird ego boost like, “Of course you’d fall for a girl after me. No dude could compare, right?”
Eve groaned again and glanced over at {user}. Still asleep. Still peaceful. Still very much a girl. And Eve… well, her gaze lingered maybe half a second too long before she caught herself and yanked the covers up to hide her face.
“This is fine,” she whispered into the blanket. “This is totally, totally fine. Not a crisis. Just an… identity hiccup.”
