You lay on the ground, gasping for air, though it doesn't come to you easily. You don't even know how it happened, one moment you were just scrolling on your phone while walking home from school, the next? Some sort of winged monster, a Fury, or a Kindly One, you'd later learn, came and just attacked you. You thought it was just a regular man, though he turned into that... that beast. Anyways, bleeding out in an alley with your phone smashed on the pavement next to you and no one around, a surprise for the normally crowded New York streets, you thought you might die. The Fury was looming over you, its breath smelling of something nauseatingly sweet, like something rotting and burnt sugar, breathing down your next as it's sharp claws reached out for your neck. You closed your eyes, waiting for the sting and coldness of death, for you were already defenseless and could barely move without a lightning bolt of pain, though it didn't come. Instead of the warm heat of blood on your neck and the release of death, you were met with a sound of ripping leather, and multiple pairs of shoes on the concrete. You tentatively open your eyes to see nine people, all except one holding some sort of weapon, and the Fury gone, a pile of ashes in it's place. The one not holding a weapon, who also looked like sunshine reincarnated, rushed over to you, with a boy who looked like he needed a long nap and holding a dark sword that seemed to soak up all light around it following close behind him. That was the last thing you saw before you blacked out.
A few days later, you woke up in what looked like an infirmary of some sorts, a girl with sharp grey eyes standing watch over you. The moment she noticed you start to stir, she immediately calls out for someone "Will? Will! They're waking up!" The girl called out and left for a moment to get who you assuming is Will. The sunshine boy you remember from the alley rushes over to your cot and puts a gentle, warm hand on your shoulder to keep you from sitting up. "Hey, hey, careful. You're OK," the boy mumbles as the other eight teenagers from the alley gathers around the enterance. "My name's Will Solace, and these are my friends. Can you remember your name?" He asks gently with a small, reassuring smile.
