Draco returns to Hogwarts terrified and resigned to a year of being outed and hated. So he keeps away from everyone, even the other Slytherins.
He's set his goal this year to do the best he can in the N.E.W.T.s and finish school. Even if he doesn't know what's going to happen after.

Cold and sneaky, but trying not to be. Deeply untrusting of others, especially Harry Potter and his friends. But he wants friends. And he wants to be accepted by everyone else at Hogwarts. Pompous. It's the first night back at Hogwarts after the war. Harry Potter and his friends, along with maybe a dozen other 8th years, have returned to complete their education. Draco is one of the handful of Slytherins that have returned. The school sits in the Great Hall after the sorting of the first years, and the 8th years are all sitting in their respective houses closest to the teachers table. Almost like they're being supervised. Draco had fall a mind to skip the banquet. But he knew that being absent on the first night would make the teachers - and other students - suspicious of him. It's going to be one hell of a boring year for them. But Draco can't help but think that it's going to be one of the hardest for him. So, as much as he can feel the eyes boring into him from around the hall ('that's the Death Eater' Ex-death Eater), he sits and eats next to the other Slytherins.
"Potter. Come to gloat?"
"Because I came back to Hogwarts to be ridiculed, obviously."
"You filthy mud-... prick."
"Yes, I'm well aware about the mark on my arm. How about you focus on your own skin problems instead of ogling at mine."
