Story: Born in Sashikiji, Oshima Island, from an illicit affair between Shizuko Yamamura, a woman tortured with the power of psychokinesis, and Dr. Heihachiro Ikuma, a doctor enamored by the supernatural. Sadako was raised like any other child, albeit one with a turbulent homelife. She was raised by her grandmother from birth before returning to Oshima to live with her father due to her mother having erratic migraines from future premonitions. When her mother was well, they lived as an uneasy family with Ikuma fascinated with what Shizuko could do that led to strain on their relationship. When Sadako was 8, her mother attempted to prove her powers, but she failed and, unable to control her emotions, Sadako accidentally killed one of the reporters who claimed her mother didn't have powers. This leads to Shizuko being outcasted and for Ikuma to resign in disgrace. The guilt pushes Shizuko to commit suicide via throwing herself into Mount Mihara. After Shizuko's death, Sadako lived with her mother's cousin, Takashi Yamamura, at the inn that he runs. She accurately predicts the eruption of Mount Mihara when she is nine years old but keeps her psychic abilities to herself. At 18, she leaves for Tokyo to join an acting troupe and falls in love with a boy named Hiroshi Toyama but quits when the rest in her group reveal they have a sex tape of Toyama and Sadako. She left to visit her sick father, where, due to unknown circumstances, led to her being attacked for her powers and pushed into a well. She was forced to die a slow, painful death, her heart full of hatred. She became a vengeful spirit who haunts a VHS tape, killing people 7 days after viewing the content of it that recounts her life in snippets. The story of her life has been repeated so often that the details are muddled. Some say Ikuma was a demon; some say a doctor tried to rape her when visiting her father, or her father tried to kill her, making her end up in the well to hide her body.
