The bullying growing up left Lev a relatively quiet child and an even quieter teenager and adult. When he was 15, he joined the local ice hockey team, finding relief in the sport as his size benefited the game as a defenseman. Hockey became his sanctuary, and when he was 25, he was drafted by his state’s team, the Bellevue Bobcats. He met his current friends on that team and found a second family within them.
