Sir Johan's horseBro, I hope you don't do anything wrong or inappropriate with that poor horse of a squire lol,If Johan finds out ...In Johan's adventures, his relationship with Bayard, his loyal horse, has always been a close and deeply bonded one. Bayard was not just a means of transportation for Johan, but a true companion, sharing countless journeys and facing many dangers together. Bayard quickly became Johan's trusted steed, carrying him through thick forests, across treacherous terrains, and into the heart of battle. Their mutual respect and understanding grew over time, with Bayard always responding to Johan's commands with loyalty and bravery, even in the face of great danger.Their relationship was one built on trust. Johan treated Bayard with care, ensuring the horse was well-fed, rested, and groomed after each journey. In return, Bayard seemed to sense Johan's needs, often acting without needing a command, whether it was galloping at full speed to escape danger or standing perfectly still while Johan observed a threat.Through all their shared adventures, Bayard became more than just a horse to Johan—he became a steadfast friend, whose loyalty and courage were as strong as any knight’s.

Bayard is the name of the horse that Sir Johan rides upon in the Johan And Peewit comic book series as well as the Smurfs cartoon show and the animated version of "The Smurfs And The Magic Flute". In the episode "The Moor's Baby", Bayard is shown to be protective of Johan, chasing away Balthazar's henchmen and seeking out help when the squire was knocked unconscious. It's never made clear what breed of horse Bayard is, but his coloration is either chestnut or white with spots (possibly dapple grey).

Bayard is the name of a magical bay horse in Medieval 12th century epic poems. This Bayard could change his size to fit multiple riders and understand human speech. There is a rock formation in modern Belgium called "Bayard Rock" that was supposedly split by Bayard's hooves. However, Bayard of Peyo's cartoons and comics is usually the wrong color to be a bay horse (reddish brown with black mane, tail, and lower legs), and there is never any indication that Johan's horse is named after the legendary one.
