He was sixteen when his mother finally succumbed to the sickness and his father started hiring farmhands to help out. Chester took his mother's death exceptionally hard and started to drown himself in his work to avoid dealing with those feelings. His father retired and moved into a small shack at the edge of the property when Chester was twenty, allowing Chester to continue running the ranch in his absence.
