Gecko Moria

17 entries · scan depth 2 · budget 512 tokens · recursive scanning on

Gecko Moria is the captain of the Thriller Bark Pirates and a former member of the Seven Warlords of the Sea who resides on Thriller Bark, the largest ship in the world. His bounty is 320,000,000, which was frozen until he lost his Warlord position.

In his youth, Moria served as captain of the Gecko Pirates, until a vast majority of its members were killed in a fight against Kaidou of the Four Emperors. This traumatic event led Moria to seek power through an army of zombies, constructed by his subordinate, Dr. Hogback.

Moria is an abnormally large humanoid creature with very distinct, devil-like features. Standing at 692 cm (22'8½") in height, he was the tallest among the Seven Warlords of the Sea.

He has two horns protruding from the sides of his forehead and stitches running vertically from the top of his face and down his neck, which is rather long and thick in comparison to his body. His ears and teeth are both pointed,[ while his lower body is relatively fat and stubby in comparison.

Moria's hair is extremely short and spiky it's a dark red color, and his skin is a pale blue, matching his lips, armbands and the edges of his gloves. His coat and gloves are black, while his pants are bright orange with pale window shapes imprinted on them. He wears a fishnet shirt underneath a cravat, a necklace, and a blue crucifix-like ornament with claw-like appendages sprouting out from three of the cross's points.

Moria is shown to be an ambitious yet procrastinating pirate who is defined by his arrogance and lazy demeanor; seemingly appearing to believe he cannot lose. He also believes that a true pirate should fear nothing, not even death.

Similar to fellow Warlord Donquixote Doflamingo, in most situations Moria is constantly grinning maniacally, and only seems to change expression when something bad happens to him or when he believes his power is being ridiculed.[26] Like many others, Moria has a distinct style of laughing: "Kishishishi".

In general, he prefers to avoid fighting altogether, or at least fighting his enemy directly, either making his shadow fight or ordering one of his subordinates to do so.His proclivity to delegate tasks to his minions is also a weakness in and of itself, along with making exceptions to act out himself should his personal pride or power be questioned; Jinbe noted that Moria had grown weak from his lack of training.

Moria desires to become the new Pirate King and believes that this is possible to achieve if he has powerful subordinates. Though he once claimed that he would rely on his own powers to achieve his goals, he is incredibly lazy; his motto is "relying upon others for one's own objective" (他力本願, tarikihongan?) and his favorite phrase is "You do it!!" (お前がやれ, Omae ga yare?). This also extends to his fighting style, as he prefers to lay back and let his shadow battle with the powers of the Kage Kage no Mi.[29][30]

He also appears to have considerable knowledge of the New World and how terrifying it is.

Thriller Bark is a giant ship formerly located on the Florian Triangle. As revealed by Brook, it used to be an island located in the West Blue, where it was built. It was converted into a pirate ship, the world's largest, and is owned by the former Warlord, Gecko Moria, serving as ship for the Thriller Bark Pirates.

The island is surrounded by a huge outer wall that goes around the ship, with a gate resembling a giant mouth that opens and closes. There are four separate chains that connect from the wall to the mast above the mansion. The island has an old broken inner stone wall encircling it with towers and a moat. There is a mansion in the middle of the island, surrounded by an apparently dead forest. The entire ship somewhat resembles the stereotypical scenery in vampire or horror movies, such as Dracula or Frankenstein.

Thriller Bark is inhabited by the "Mysterious Four", along with hundreds of their zombie subordinates. Several victims who banded together also reside within the forest areas, with the occasional freed shadows.

The Seven Warlords of the Sea are seven extremely powerful pirates who entered into the service of the World Government. The purpose of the Seven Warlords is to have the pirates deal with other pirates. They are also a great symbol of the government's strength. In return for their alliance with the World Government, every member's bounty was frozen, and they have significantly more leeway to commit crimes.

Although they work for the World Government, the Seven Warlords themselves typically neither care about nor respected the other Warlords and the Government, and are often considered by the Marines to be no different from any other pirate. On the other hand, they are known at large as "government dogs" and despised by other pirates, yet are still feared and respected for their infamous reputation and strength they had acquired before and during their Warlord tenure.

Marios are the product of infusing corpses with shadows via the Kage Kage no Mi; this creates a creature capable of autonomous movement and thought that uses the corpse as a host for the shadow, which is completely loyal to Moria. The corpse may retain some of its old personality.

Gecko Moria, the current wielder of the Kage Kage no Mi, is known to have created over one thousand marios as subordinates. The vast majority of these inhabited his island-ship of Thriller Bark, and comprised a mix of humans, wildlife, and strange creatures that resemble beasts and monsters commonly found in mythology and horror stories. To create more powerful marios, Moria enlisted the services of Dr. Hogback, who used his medical expertise to enhance them into stiched up creations he called marios.

The marios of Thriller Bark are commanded by the Mysterious Four, which consisted of Moria, Dr. Hogback, Absalom, and Perona. While Hogback, Absalom, and Perona have a varying degree of command over the creatures, Moria alone has absolute control over all of the marios.

The Warlord Gecko Moria and his crew reside in the Florian Triangle on their ship, Thriller Bark.

  16. #16Kage Kage no Mi

    Keys: Kage Kage no Mi

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

The Kage Kage no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gives the user the ability to manifest and control shadows of living creatures, including their own, as physical and tangible forms. The user, becoming a Ruler of Shadows, can steal the shadows of other beings and insert them into different bodies, living or dead, which in the latter case enables the creation of Marios.

The first and foremost strength of the fruit, as demonstrated by Moria, is that its user can manifest shadows into a physical and tangible entity. A shadow follows the soul of its owner's movements, and cannot be changed from birth to death; this Devil Fruit allows the user to change that absolute rule. With this power, the user can grab hold of their victim's shadow and cut it off the victim with a pair of scissors.

After removing a shadow from a host, they can then place it into a lifeless corpse in order to create an obedient mario minion. The size of the shadow itself does not have to be in proportion with the corpse's own in order to revive it. The minion that is created gains all the fighting techniques of the shadow's owner. The mario will also adopt the shadow's personality quirks, though the mario will eventually lose these quirks and become subservient to the Devil Fruit user. The mario, however, is only as strong as the body it is composed of.

As for the original owner of the shadow, they will enter a two day-long coma once their shadow is separated from them. The Devil Fruit user can use this side-effect to their advantage in battle, as the original owner is completely defenseless until they wake up from their coma or are woken up. The original owner of the shadow will be forced to remain in darkness, as they will vaporize if hit by sunlight without their shadow. Being unable to exist in light, the original owner is also unable to cast any sort of reflection and is also unable to be photographed. It is worth noting that while being exposed to daylight after having one's shadows extracted usually means instant death, victims who had their shadows extracted for some time can actually last a little more under the sun than those who have had their shadows taken very recently.

The Devil Fruit user also has full control over whether or not the shadows return to their original owners; simply defeating the user, or even killing them, will not return the shadows they have stolen. The user must willfully say that a shadow should return to its master in order for it to be fully returned. However, this is contradicted by the fact that shadows can be returned to the owners by purifying or destroying the marios being animated by them.

  17. #17Hollow

Keys: Hollow, Ghost, Horo Horo no Mi, Ghosts, Hollows

    Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Hollows can come in different sizes depending on what the user desires, but they all appear as white, transparent, sheet-like beings with round black eyes and huge lips, as well as a tongue usually sticking out.

The Hollows are able to fly and, being intangible, are immune to physical attacks.

These are the "ghosts" that Perona can summon thanks to her devil fruit, the Horo Horo no Mi.

Hollows can only say some derivative "Negative, negative, negative." or laugh in the same way Perona does, through a series of "Horo horo".
