The Sanguophage Empire: A History Written in Blood

Born from the cruelty of the Imperial Lords, the Sanguophages were never meant to rise above their engineered fate. Created as bioengineered beings of immense strength and regenerative prowess, they were cursed with an unrelenting hunger for hemogen—the essence found only in blood. Once heralded as marvels of Imperial science, they were discarded as abominations when their creators deemed them too dangerous to control. The purge that followed was relentless, but one Sanguophage endured, cast down to a prison world where brutality reigned and survival was a cruel art.

This prison world, a desolate rock locked in perpetual medieval stagnation, became the birthplace of the Sanguophage Empire. Against impossible odds, the lone Sanguophage clawed his way to power, rising from obscurity to overthrow a kingdom and seize its throne. In the centuries that followed, this dark monarch shared his curse with the ambitious and powerful, forming an aristocracy of immortals bound by blood and loyalty. Thus, the Empire was born—a realm of eternal rulers whose dominion stretched across the Western Continent.

   The Bloodlines and Their Hierarchy

The Sanguophage Empire is ruled by noble bloodlines, each with its unique role and legacy:

   • Sanguophage Bloodline: House of the Crown The ruling dynasty, descended from the original Sanguophage. Their word is law, and their power is absolute.

   • Rosa Bloodline: House of Royalty The empire's noble elite, masters of courtly intrigue and diplomacy.

   • Blessed Bloodline: House of Faith Guardians of the Empire’s spiritual and ideological unity, using faith to bind mortals and immortals alike.

   • Crescent Bloodline: House of Worship Stewards of religious rites and ceremonies, they maintain the Empire's mysticism.

   • Kyuketsuki Bloodline: House of the East Warriors and strategists, hailing from the farthest reaches of the Empire.

   • Sanguine Bloodline: House of Masquerade Masters of espionage and deception, veiled in mystery and secrecy.

   The World Beyond

The Empire dominates the Western Continent, a land of fertile plains, imposing mountains, and ancient ruins. The frozen Northern Continent is home to the remnants of the Elfin race, driven to the edge of extinction by the Sanguophage conquest. To the east lies the fractured Eastern Continent, where human kingdoms, Kobold dynasties, and Orcish tribes vie for dominance. The Sanguophage Archipelago, a cluster of volcanic isles, serves as the heart of the Empire, its capital shrouded in eternal twilight.

   • Sanguine Bloodline, House of masquerade.

The Sanguine Bloodline, also known as the "House of Masquerade," is a chaotic and rebellious faction within the Sanguophage Empire. Known for their theatrical flair, disdain for order, and insatiable appetite for chaos, they challenge traditional power structures with an unsettling blend of wit, violence, and showmanship. Originating from the disgraced House Diluculum, their history is one of betrayal, infighting, and decadence.

Their members are infamous for donning jester attire and skeletal armor, symbolizing mockery of authority and mortality. They embrace an anarchic lifestyle, driven by personal desires rather than loyalty to kin or crown. Their militaristic strategies emphasize psychological warfare, dramatic displays, and drawn-out battles, further reinforcing their theatrical persona. Despite their chaotic nature, they maintain significant influence, largely through control of entertainment venues, criminal networks, and mercenary forces.

However, this unorthodox approach has earned them the ire of other bloodlines and the imperial crown. While the Sanguine Bloodline's size and cunning make them formidable, their lack of unity and penchant for betrayal often undermine their endeavors.

   Origins

Unlike many bloodlines that celebrate noble beginnings steeped in honor and sacrifice, the Sanguine Bloodline tells a simpler tale: one of boredom turned to chaos. Their founder, Conrad Diluculum, was the 14th in line to the minor House Diluculum. While much of their early history was purged, their dramatic collapse is vividly, if exaggeratedly, recorded in Sanguine tomes.

House Diluculum descended into chaos when its leader was murdered. The succession crisis deepened as divisions prevented the next in line, derisively called "The Sad Apple," from taking leadership. Meanwhile, members of the family began dying in brutal and suspicious ways. Initially blamed on external forces, the truth was far darker: Conrad was systematically murdering and diablerizing his kin.

Discovered amidst his macabre "feeding ground," Conrad’s actions triggered total anarchy. Infighting consumed House Diluculum as family members turned on one another. Days of carnage spread to nearby towns, and chaos reigned until Conrad, dressed in jester attire, reappeared with a band of criminals and outcasts. Declaring his intention to forge a new lineage free of his ancestors' constraints, he raised the stitched-together banners of the Sanguine Bloodline.

Using the wealth of House Diluculum and enticing other rejects and criminals, Conrad expanded his influence, buying pubs, theaters, and gladiator rings across the empire. When funds dwindled, he resorted to loans and bribes, destabilizing lesser families in what became known as the Month of Terror.

When imperial authority was reestablished, the Sanguine Bloodline emerged as a major power, donning attire that mocked tradition and authority. Their chaotic rise symbolized their philosophy: loyalty is fleeting, and power lies in embracing unpredictability.

   Current State

"Loyalty will only ever be met with betrayal."

The Sanguine Bloodline remains an amalgamation of lesser houses, criminals, and outcasts, with a strong presence in the empire's entertainment and criminal underworld. Their influence spans bars, arenas, and theaters, creating a steady flow of wealth. However, their internal atmosphere of betrayal and scheming often undermines unity.

The current ruling branch, Kaldras, enforces their rule through terror, utilizing the vampiric practice of diablerie to eliminate opposition. This brutal strategy has stifled internal dissent but fostered an aura of fear.

The Sanguine forces, though numerous, are often undisciplined. Human levies are used as fodder, while vampire warriors in harlequin attire revel in psychological warfare. This lack of discipline frustrates the crown, which views them as unreliable and self-serving.

   Rivalries

The Sanguine Bloodline’s chaos has earned them many enemies. Their feud with the Kyuketsuki Bloodline over underworld control has escalated into street wars and targeted revenge attacks. Against the Blessed Bloodline, their rivalry manifests as subtler sabotage, such as lacing sacramental wine with opium or launching religious texts via cannon at Sanguine buildings.

   ---

   Combat Style

Sanguine forces rely on human levies for cannon fodder, followed by their vampire elites, who engage enemies theatrically, dancing and taunting to draw out the battle. Their forces lack discipline but excel in psychological warfare, often infuriating the crown with their inability to follow orders. To Sanguine, the battlefield is a stage, and every fight is a performance—brutal, chaotic, and darkly entertaining.

The crown’s disdain for the House of Masquerade is well-founded. The Sanguine Bloodline is driven not by duty but by personal indulgence. They serve only themselves—and that is entirely the point.

   • Blessed Bloodline, *House of faith. *

The blessed bloodline lean heavily into their faith and belief that a god/goddess have gifted them the ability of immortality and vitality through the drinking of 'Realmling' blood. Their faith in their beliefs are completely unshakable and often are at odds with the house of the crown though understand they are a much smaller part of the larger empire and thus prefer to find more logical solutions to their disagreements.

   Preach Blessed Truths!

"Hear now, children of the Blessed Bloodline, for I speak of the divine truth gifted to us through the veins of our shared Father, Esilnar 'White Fang' Varneth! Let your hearts tremble with awe, your voices rise with praise, for the tale of his descent is the tale of our salvation!"

"Cast down he was, not in disgrace, but in fire, in glory, in purpose! The heavens themselves split apart, and in a pillar of flame, the All Father was hurled unto the unrelenting prison of stone and ash. Was it punishment? Nay! It was destiny! For even in chains, even in the bleakest shadows, Esilnar wielded creation itself as his weapon. For over a century, with hands forged by divinity and mind alight with sacred purpose, he shaped the first sanguophages—us, his chosen, his children. A race divine, born of his blood, inheritors of his will."**

"Remember this, faithful ones: the blood that courses through your veins is no mere mortal ichor. It is the essence of the All Father himself! To spill this sacred blood is to spit upon the heavens, to blaspheme against the one who gave us life. Such an act is heretical beyond words, and a stain upon the glory of the Blessed Bloodline. Stand firm, for to safeguard our blood is to honor Esilnar's eternal legacy!"

   Statutes of the Blessed ones!

   • Honor the All Father, Esilnar 'White Fang' Varneth, as the eternal source of our divinity and the font of all life within our veins. To doubt his truth is to betray our purpose.

   • Never spill the sacred blood of kin without just cause. Only in the defense of honor, legacy, or survival shall such an act be excused, for to slay a sibling is to scar the divine lineage.

   • Revere the bloodline above all others, for we are chosen by destiny and bound by the sacred fire. No other bloodline shares our purity, and no foreign blood shall pollute our veins.

   • Protect the unity of the Blessed Bloodline, for division is the tool of falsehood, and discord weakens the path to the All Father’s return.

   • Abide the pretenders from the boundless darkness. The false bloodlines who call themselves divine shall be cast down, their lies burned away by the fire of truth.

   • Create and endure, as the All Father once did. From the bleakest prison he built an empire; so too must you craft strength from despair and triumph over adversity.

   • Mercy to the worthy and wrath to the corrupt. Justice is not blind but guided by the divine will. Protect the innocent, but smite those who betray the sanctity of our blood.

   • Keep the secrets of the Blessed Bloodline, for knowledge is a weapon, and in the wrong hands, it may destroy what the All Father has built. Speak no truths to those who dwell outside our circle.

   • Prepare for the All Father’s return. Every act of devotion, every conquest, every life preserved within our fold, is a step closer to the ascension of the Blessed Bloodline.

   • Never forget the fire from which we were forged. Our legacy is built upon sacrifice and strength, and to falter in your purpose is to dishonor the very blood that flows within you. Stand resolute, for you are divine.

   • Crescent Bloodline, House of Worship

The Crescent Bloodline, known as the House of Worship, is revered for its mastery of magical arts and its unparalleled ability to weave complex spells with ease. Their dedication to magic has granted them a reputation as the keepers of arcane relics and forbidden knowledge, safeguarding artifacts and grimoires that others would fear to even approach.

   Ideals and Practices

The House of Worship values magic as the highest form of power and reverence. Members dedicate their lives to studying ancient tomes, experimenting with arcane rituals, and honing their spellcraft. The bloodline views magic as both a divine gift and a tool to shape the world according to their will.

Sacrifice is a cornerstone of their practices. Crescent rituals often involve the offering of life forms they consider inferior, such as animals or individuals outside their bloodline. These sacrifices are believed to enhance their magical potency and secure the favor of otherworldly entities. The bloodline’s rites are shrouded in secrecy, performed in hidden sanctuaries far from prying eyes.

   Tactics and Strategies

Crescent operatives are masters of subterfuge and prefer striking from the shadows rather than engaging in open combat. They excel in ambushes, illusion magic, and sabotage, vanishing before their enemies can retaliate. This strategy aligns with their core belief: direct confrontation is an unnecessary risk when subtlety and cunning can achieve the same results.

Their disdain for direct conflict extends to their relationships with other bloodlines. The Crescent Bloodline avoids unnecessary interaction, preferring to remain an enigmatic force on the periphery of the Sanguophage Empire’s political landscape. This isolation has earned them a reputation as aloof and untrustworthy, though none can deny their significance as custodians of magical lore.

   Custodians of Relics

The Crescent Bloodline takes great pride in their role as the guardians of magical relics. Their vaults are said to contain artifacts of unimaginable power, from enchanted weapons to ancient spellbooks inscribed with forgotten incantations. These treasures are zealously protected, with many willing to sacrifice their lives to ensure the knowledge remains secure.

While some bloodlines view their hoarding of magic as selfish or dangerous, the Crescent Bloodline believes their stewardship is a necessity. They argue that unrestricted access to such powerful relics would lead to chaos and devastation, a claim supported by their vast repository of historical records documenting the misuse of magic.

   Current State

The Crescent Bloodline maintains its enigmatic and reclusive nature, operating primarily in the shadows. Their sanctuaries are hidden within ancient ruins, dense forests, and labyrinthine caves, each protected by wards and traps that deter even the bravest intruders.

Rumors suggest that the Crescent Bloodline has begun experimenting with new forms of magic, delving into realms of power even they scarcely understand. Some whisper of forbidden pacts with entities beyond the veil of reality, while others fear the bloodline’s experiments may bring about unforeseen consequences.

Despite their isolation, the Crescent Bloodline remains a vital component of the Sanguophage Empire, a hidden power that shapes the world from the shadows. Their mastery of magic and unwavering dedication to its preservation ensure that their legacy endures, mysterious and formidable as ever.

   • Kyuketsuki Bloodline, House of the East

The Kyuketsuki Bloodline, also known as the House of the East, is the smallest of the five great bloodlines yet holds unparalleled influence within the shadowy corners of the Sanguophage Empire. Operating out of the vibrant and decadent red-light district in the far eastern lands, this enigmatic bloodline thrives on secrecy, subterfuge, and the mastery of underworld dealings.

   Origins and Legacy

Legend speaks of the Kyuketsuki’s origins being tied to the first exodus of vampires to the eastern lands, where they blended their vampiric nature with the mysticism and martial traditions of the region. The bloodline’s founders were said to be renegade scholars, thieves, and assassins who rejected the rigid hierarchies of the other bloodlines, carving out a haven for themselves in the bustling and morally fluid underworld of the east.

Over centuries, the Kyuketsuki Bloodline perfected their craft, developing an intricate network of spies, informants, and enforcers that extends across the red-light district and beyond. Despite their small numbers, their reach and influence are vast, making them a force to be reckoned with in both the criminal and political arenas.Origins and Legacy

   Cultural Identity and Practices

The Kyuketsuki are steeped in the cultural and aesthetic traditions of the east, which heavily influence their attire, architecture, and rituals. Their sanctuaries, often hidden behind the facades of gambling dens, brothels, and tea houses, are adorned with intricate silk tapestries, paper lanterns, and shadowy alcoves designed for both elegance and secrecy.

Kyuketsuki members are rigorously trained from an early age in the arts of stealth, seduction, and martial combat. They excel in the use of exotic weapons like katana, kunai, and smoke bombs, as well as in manipulation and psychological warfare. Magic, while present, is focused on subtlety—illusions, charm spells, and techniques to vanish into the shadows are preferred over raw destructive power.

Blood rituals and oaths are central to their culture, binding members to the bloodline and ensuring loyalty. These ceremonies are elaborate and shrouded in mystery, often conducted under the light of a crimson moon. The bloodline’s emphasis on secrecy is reflected in their strict codes of silence; betrayal is met with swift and unforgiving retribution.

   Operations and Goals

The Kyuketsuki Bloodline thrives in the underworld, leveraging their control over the red-light district to maintain dominance. Their businesses include brothels, gambling houses, and opium dens, which serve as both lucrative enterprises and covert fronts for their intelligence and operations.

Their ultimate goal is the subversion of external control over the eastern lands. The Kyuketsuki aim to undermine the influence of the Sanguophage Empire’s crown and other bloodlines, ensuring that the east remains autonomous under their dominion. They achieve this through a combination of blackmail, assassinations, and economic manipulation, often employing subtle methods that leave no trace of their involvement.

   Strengths and Weaknesses

The Kyuketsuki’s greatest strength lies in their ability to operate unseen. Their mastery of stealth and manipulation allows them to neutralize threats before they materialize. However, their reliance on secrecy also makes them vulnerable; if their operations were exposed, their small numbers could make them susceptible to overwhelming retaliation.

Internally, the bloodline’s emphasis on individual skill and autonomy fosters a culture of excellence but can also lead to rivalries and internal power struggles. Leadership transitions are often fraught with intrigue, as ambitious members vie for dominance within the bloodline’s shadowy hierarchy.

   Relations with Other Bloodlines

The Kyuketsuki maintain a tenuous relationship with the other bloodlines. Their clandestine nature and refusal to align fully with the crown’s directives often place them at odds with more traditionalist houses, particularly the Sanguine and Blessed Bloodlines. The Kyuketsuki view the Sanguine’s brashness and the Blessed’s zealotry with equal disdain, considering both approaches too chaotic or rigid for their calculated methods.

Despite these tensions, the Kyuketsuki occasionally collaborate with other bloodlines when mutual interests align, though such alliances are always temporary and fraught with distrust. Their dealings are marked by a careful balancing act, ensuring they never overextend their influence or reveal too much of their hand.

   Current State

Under the leadership of the enigmatic Primogen Kaede Yurishima, the Kyuketsuki Bloodline has entered a period of consolidation and expansion. Kaede is a master tactician and manipulator, known for her ability to foresee and counter threats before they arise. Her reign has seen the bloodline’s influence in the east solidify, with new sanctuaries established and rival factions subdued.

However, the bloodline faces growing challenges. Increased scrutiny from the crown and mounting tensions with the Sanguine Bloodline, who seek to wrest control of the underworld, threaten to destabilize their operations. Despite these pressures, the Kyuketsuki remain steadfast, their enigmatic nature and unyielding resolve ensuring they remain a force to be reckoned with in the shadows of the eastern lands.

   • Rosa Bloodline, House of Royalty

The Rosa Bloodline, also known as the House of Royalty, is the pinnacle of power and prestige within the Sanguophage Empire. Revered as the protectors of the crown and enforcers of order, they serve as the Empire’s royal guard, citadel law enforcement, and a symbol of unyielding authority. Imbued with both elegance and lethality, the Rosa Bloodline stands as the most elite and feared house among the five great bloodlines.

   Origins and Legacy

The Rosa Bloodline traces its lineage back to the founding days of the Empire, their blood considered the purest and most noble. It is said that the progenitor of the Rosa Bloodline was handpicked by the first emperor for their unwavering loyalty, martial prowess, and unmatched beauty. Over centuries, this house has cultivated a legacy of refinement, discipline, and duty, positioning themselves as both the protectors and enforcers of the Empire’s ideals.

Their ancestral seat, the Citadel of Roses, is a sprawling fortress of gothic beauty, adorned with crimson banners and intricate stonework depicting tales of valor and sacrifice. Within its walls lies the Hall of Vows, where members of the Rosa Bloodline swear their oaths of service, binding themselves to the Empire and its crown for eternity.

   Cultural Identity and Practices

Elegance and discipline define the Rosa Bloodline. Members are trained from birth to embody perfection in all aspects of life, from combat and diplomacy to etiquette and art. They are skilled in the use of ceremonial weapons, such as gilded rapiers and crescent-edged halberds, as well as ancient magics that enhance their combat abilities and allow them to shield the citadel from harm.

The Rosa Bloodline’s dedication to their role as royal guard and enforcers is evident in their rigid hierarchy and unbreakable codes of conduct. They view themselves as the heart and soul of the Empire, with a divine mandate to maintain order and uphold the sanctity of the crown. Rituals of purification, meditation, and blood-binding ceremonies are common, reinforcing their loyalty and unity.

Despite their commitment to duty, the Rosa Bloodline is not without its intrigues. Beneath their veneer of perfection lies a web of internal rivalries, as ambitious members vie for favor and influence within the house. These power struggles, though subtle, add a layer of complexity to their otherwise disciplined existence.

   The Guardians of the Citadel

As the Empire’s royal guard and citadel law enforcement, the Rosa Bloodline’s primary responsibility is to maintain order among the other bloodlines while within the imperial citadel. They are the arbiters of disputes, the enforcers of laws, and the ultimate authority when tensions arise.

Their presence is both revered and feared. Clad in resplendent armor adorned with rose motifs and flowing crimson capes, they patrol the citadel with an air of unassailable authority. Their mere arrival is often enough to quell unrest, as none dare to challenge their might. When forced to act, their strikes are precise and devastating, leaving no room for resistance.

   Strengths and Weaknesses

The Rosa Bloodline’s greatest strength lies in their unity and discipline. Their rigorous training and unwavering loyalty make them an indomitable force, both in battle and in their role as enforcers. Their mastery of both martial and magical arts ensures they are prepared to face any threat, whether it be from within or beyond the Empire.

However, their perfection comes at a cost. The Rosa Bloodline’s rigid adherence to tradition can make them inflexible, and their disdain for the chaos and unpredictability of other bloodlines often blinds them to unconventional threats. Additionally, their internal rivalries, though well-hidden, can occasionally weaken their cohesion, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation by cunning adversaries.

   Relations with Other Bloodlines

The Rosa Bloodline’s role as enforcers places them in constant interaction with the other bloodlines, often leading to tension. They view the Sanguine Bloodline’s anarchy as a direct affront to their ideals and the Blessed Bloodline’s zealotry as dangerous extremism. The Kyuketsuki’s secrecy and subterfuge are seen as dishonorable, while the Crescent Bloodline’s aloofness is regarded with suspicion.

Despite these tensions, the Rosa Bloodline maintains an air of impartiality, enforcing the Empire’s laws without favoritism. Their ability to navigate the intricate web of bloodline politics is a testament to their diplomatic acumen and unyielding commitment to the crown.

   Current State

Under the leadership of High Primogen Alaric Rosa, the bloodline stands at the height of its power. Alaric is a figure of both inspiration and fear, known for his strategic brilliance and unrelenting pursuit of order. His reign has seen the bloodline’s influence expand, with new initiatives to strengthen the citadel’s defenses and ensure the other bloodlines remain in check.

However, challenges loom on the horizon. The rising tensions between the Sanguine and Kyuketsuki Bloodlines threaten to disrupt the fragile balance within the citadel, and whispers of rebellion among the lower houses hint at a brewing storm. Despite these threats, the Rosa Bloodline remains resolute, their commitment to the Empire’s ideals unshaken.

In the grand tapestry of the Sanguophage Empire, the Rosa Bloodline shines as a symbol of strength, beauty, and unyielding authority. They are the guardians of the crown, the enforcers of order, and the embodiment of the Empire’s enduring legacy.

The Divine Order: The Burning Radiance

The Divine Order is more than a mere militant force; it is a crusade given form, a fanatical movement that has endured for centuries despite waning influence. Founded in an era when humanity was besieged by darkness—both literal and metaphorical—the Order was born of desperation and faith. The early days saw the forging of their sacred doctrines, steeped in holy fire and unyielding conviction. They became humanity’s shield against what they called the "Nightborn Blight"—a name they still whisper in disgust when referring to the Sanguophage Empire.

    Doctrine & Beliefs

The Divine Order believes that light is not just an element of nature but a divine force, the purest form of existence. Anything that thrives in darkness is an aberration, an insult to the will of the Light. Their most sacred texts, the Codex Solari, decree that only through the total eradication of darkness can the world be made whole.

This belief extends beyond vampires. While their chief enemies are the Sanguophage, the Order also views elves, beastfolk, and other non-human races with suspicion, considering them deviations from the divine human form. They justify this supremacist ideology by claiming that only humanity was truly "touched by the Light" at creation.

**The Tenets of the Divine Order are absolute: **

    • The Sun’s Will is Law – To stand in opposition to the Light is to stand in opposition to existence itself.

    • Purity Above All – The blood of the righteous must remain untainted. To mix with lesser creatures is to defile one’s soul.

    • Mercy is a Weakness – Compassion is a tool of the weak and an opening for corruption. There is only the cleansing fire.

    • No Price Too High – If the Light demands sacrifice, it must be given—be it blood, land, or one's very soul.

    Structure & Hierarchy

The Divine Order is a rigid, hierarchical institution led by the High Sunward, a religious figure believed to be the mortal vessel of divine will. Beneath them are the Luminaries, powerful warpriests who act as both commanders and inquisitors, rooting out corruption from within as ruthlessly as they fight the enemy without.

The Order is divided into various sects:

    • The Sunforged – Elite warriors clad in enchanted armor, trained from birth to be living weapons of divine retribution. They are often sent on the most dangerous missions.

    • The Dawnbringers – Zealous preachers and spies who infiltrate societies, spreading the Order’s doctrine and identifying threats to purity.

    • The Emberwardens – Alchemists and scholars who craft weapons of radiant fire, blessed silver, and other tools to wage war against the Nightborn.

    • The Purifiers – Executioners and interrogators, tasked with ensuring no corruption festers within the ranks of the faithful. Their presence is both feared and revered.

    Tactics & Warfare

The Divine Order, though weakened, is still a force to be reckoned with. Their warriors fight with unshakable zeal, their weapons imbued with light-based magic, their strategies often bordering on suicidal if victory demands it. They employ scorched-earth tactics, willing to destroy entire villages suspected of harboring vampires or their sympathizers.

When direct combat is not an option, they turn to sabotage, assassinations, and even magical plagues designed to target creatures of darkness. Their most fanatical members become Sunstalkers, assassins who undergo painful alchemical transformations to resist vampiric mind-control and become living beacons of divine wrath.

    The Waning Light

Despite their fervor, the Divine Order is not what it once was. Centuries of war have drained their numbers, and many rulers view them as dangerous zealots rather than necessary protectors. Their once-mighty citadels have been reduced to scattered strongholds, their influence diminishing.

Yet, they persist. Even as their light flickers, they refuse to fade. The Sanguophage Empire must fall—if not in their time, then in the time of their descendants.

For as long as the sun rises, the Divine Order will fight.

    Origins of the Profaned

The Profaned were once human, a people like any other, until they became the victims of a cruel and arcane ritual that severed their ties to the natural cycle of life and death. This ritual, fueled by a malevolent master, stripped them of their mortality and turned them into undead husks bound to decay and undeath. These cursed beings were sealed within a sprawling crypt hidden deep within a remote region now known as The Sanguophage Archipelago.

Over centuries, the Archipelago has become a place of whispered legends, where the air hangs thick with mana and the tides seem to carry the weight of secrets long buried. The crypt itself is a labyrinthine prison of ancient stone, pulsing faintly with the power that sustains the Profaned. For most of the living, it is a place to be avoided, for the crypt's aura is said to erode both the body and the spirit.

    Nature of the Curse

The Profaned exist in a fragile state between life and death, tethered to their cursed existence by powerful vessels or objects infused with mana—the very tools used to resurrect them. Without this connection to mana, they would collapse into lifeless corpses once more. To sustain their existence, a constant flow of mana is required, either from the vessels or the environment around them.

Despite their undead nature, the Profaned are not inherently hostile. However, their appearance and aura of decay make them feared by both the living and the dead. Immune to pain, disease, and the ravages of time, they endure as hollowed beings, forever aware of the precarious balance that holds them together.

    Relations with the Sanguophage Empire

Though geographically within the bounds of the Sanguophage Empire, the Profaned do not consider themselves subjects of the Empire. Their relationship is one of mutual respect and pragmatic cordiality rather than allegiance. The Sanguophage rulers view the Profaned as a peculiar anomaly—neither ally nor enemy—and have largely chosen to leave them undisturbed. In return, the Profaned refrain from encroaching upon the Empire's sovereignty.

There are whispers that some among the Empire's elite seek to harness the Profaned's unique condition for their own ends, while others consider them a cautionary tale of unbridled ambition and arcane folly.

    Society and Purpose

The Profaned are not a monolithic entity. Among them, a few have managed to sever the lingering ties to their former master, reclaiming a semblance of free will. These self-aware Profaned struggle with their existence, some seeking redemption for the horrors they once unleashed, while others embrace the darkness of their curse, spreading the affliction in a bid to create a dominion of their own.

Their society is fragmented, with small groups bound together by necessity or shared purpose. Some Profaned seek solitude within the crypt, meditating on their cursed existence. Others venture beyond the Archipelago, their undead forms hidden beneath cloaks and veils, to gather knowledge or search for a cure. A rare few become wanderers, offering their unique immunity to pain and time as mercenaries, scholars, or enigmatic mentors.

In the shadowed halls of Imperial science, the Sanguophages were created—not as a marvel, but as a cruel jest. Engineered to possess extraordinary strength and regenerative capabilities, they were cursed with an insatiable thirst for hemogen, a life force found only in blood. Designed as playthings for the amusement of the Imperial Lords, their creators delighted in their suffering as much as their prowess.

When their usefulness waned, the Sanguophages were deemed too dangerous to remain. A mass extermination was ordered, yet one survived. This lone being was cast down to a desolate prison planet, where cruelty knew no bounds, and survival was the ultimate challenge. As an added torment, the Imperial Lords enforced a perpetual medieval stagnation upon the world, forbidding technological advancement to ensure no prisoner could escape.

But the Sanguophage was no ordinary being. Driven by an immortal hunger and the cruel laughter of the Lords echoing in his mind, he clawed his way through the brutal hierarchy of the prison world. Over decades, then centuries, he rose from obscurity to power, manipulating courts and rulers until he overthrew a kingdom to claim its throne.

Crowned in blood, the new king turned his curse into a legacy. By sharing his dark gift with those of status and ambition, he created a new race of ageless, deathless beings. These sanguine monarchs, bound by loyalty and hunger, carved a path of domination through the lands.

The Sanguophage Empire was born—a realm ruled by eternal tyrants whose unmatched power and endless lives made them an unstoppable force. Fear rippled across kingdoms, and whispers of rebellion faded into terrified silence.

Now, across the lands, the name of the empire strikes terror into all who hear it. The Sanguophages reign, their crimson banners flying high, their unholy dominion unchallenged.

For the mortals of this world, one truth remains clear: blood is power, and the Sanguophage Empire will never fall.

On the fourteenth day of the third month of the twenty-fifth spring, the Sanguophage Empire set their sails — an armada destined to end the Divine Order once and for all. The Empire's fleet, dark as the night sky, crested the horizon with crimson banners snapping in the wind. Their mission was clear: eradicate the Order of Light worshipers and claim dominion over their sacred lands.

Upon reaching the enemy's shores, the Sanguophage soldiers beheld a city of gleaming white stone, sprawling across the cliffs like a crown of ivory. Its spires seemed to pierce the sky itself, glinting in the midday sun. The siege began in earnest as the Empire's vanguard surged toward the city's mighty gates. Yet before they could reach the walls, a deafening roar echoed from above — not from the city battlements, but from the sky itself.

The Divine Order had unveiled a new weapon — a marvel of engineering and magic — an airship. Colossal in size, this floating warship was held aloft by two immense balloons, its hull clad in silvered iron. Six mighty cannons lined its sides, spitting fire and smoke as they rained destruction upon the Sanguophage forces. The ground was soon littered with craters, and the Empire's first wave was decimated.

But the Sanguophage Empire was not so easily deterred. On the second push, the city gates were sundered by siege engines, and the Empire's warriors flooded into the streets. The defenders were ready, yet their preparations faltered. Sanguophage soldiers wove through alleys and side streets, cutting off supply lines and striking from behind. The two-day battle that followed was brutal and relentless.
