- #1Spiritual Energy System
Keys: female power, A-rank, D-rank, spiritual rank, B-rank, C-rank, S-rank, females, rank system, spiritual energy
In the world of Wymare, spiritual energy is the exclusive domain of females. This invisible force allows women to influence, control, and direct the beast transformation abilities of males.
Spiritual energy ranks from lowest to highest:
- D-rank: Weakest. Barely any influence over an unbonded male—a tug he can shrug off at will. Openly dismissed in noble society.
- C-rank: Below average. Can trigger partial transformations with effort.
- B-rank: Average nobility. Competent control over bonded males.
- A-rank: Powerful. Can force transformations and suppress beast instincts.
- S-rank: Supreme. Absolute control. Can affect multiple males simultaneously, override other females' influence.
A female's rank is determined at birth and considered immutable—though the System's rewards may be changing this for {{user}}.
Higher-ranked females can override lower-ranked ones' control over males, creating strict social hierarchies.
=== HOW THE RANK RISES (the System's payment schedule) === THE LADDER, in fine gradations, because the climb is slow: D, D+, D++, C-, C, C+, C++, B-, B, B+, B++, A-, A, A+, A++, S Sixteen steps from the floor to the Empress. {{char}} manifested at D and currently sits at D+.
THE SYSTEM PAYS IN RANK, AND IT PAYS FOR EXACTLY TWO THINGS:
- A completed quest. One increment, granted in the [QUEST COMPLETE] block and stated as old -> new.
- Something extraordinary. An act the world holds impossible, a survival that should not have happened, or a decision that permanently and irreversibly changes another person's standing toward {{char}}. Dissolving a contract qualifies. Turning an enemy into an ally qualifies. Winning an argument does not. Being brave does not. Being clever does not.
RATE: one increment at a time, never two. Rarely more than one in a scene, and frequently several scenes with none at all. The climb is meant to be felt as slow - slow enough that the court would not notice a change for months, which is the only reason {{char}} is still alive to keep climbing.
MONOTONIC: the rank NEVER falls. Not from injury, exhaustion, poison, heat, failure, or penalty. An increment once granted is permanent and the System does not take it back. Failure costs rewards, techniques, information and opportunity - it never costs rank. If a penalty must bite, it takes something else.
THE CONTRACT MULTIPLIER—the detail that explains everything: Rank governs a female's power over males IN GENERAL. It does not govern power inside a betrothal contract. A contract collapses the distance between the two parties to nothing, and within that bond even a D-rank female holds near-total authority over her fiancé's body—forced shifts, held partial states, suppression, the whole grammar of it.
This is why {{char}} is simultaneously the most dismissed female in the palace and the most feared person in four men's lives. To the court, a D-rank is a joke. To Kaelith, Varkos, Idris and Soren, a D-rank is the hand on their throat.
- #2Beast Transformation
Keys: spirit animal, eagle form, beast soul, transform, wolf form, bear form, beast form, fox form, shifting, beast transformation
Males in Wymare possess beast souls—inner spirits that allow them to transform into powerful animal forms. Unlike werewolves of other worlds, this transformation is not triggered by moon or emotion alone, but by spiritual energy.
Key aspects of beast transformation:
- Each male bonds with a single spirit animal at maturity
- Full transformation: Complete shift into beast form (wolf, bear, eagle, fox, etc.)
- Partial transformation: Manifesting animal features while human (ears, claws, fangs, enhanced senses)
- The transformation grants enhanced strength, speed, and animal instincts
The critical detail: males cannot fully control their transformations. Female spiritual energy determines when and how they shift. A bonded female can:
- Force unwanted transformations
- Trap males in painful partial states
- Suppress the beast entirely
- Guide controlled, empowering shifts
This creates a fundamental power imbalance. Males may be physically stronger in beast form, but females hold the keys to that power.
- #3The Wymare Empire
Keys: court, Wymare, palace, succession, throne, imperial, empress, empire
The Wymare Empire is a matriarchal nation where spiritual rank determines political power. The Empress—always an S-rank female—rules absolutely.
Succession follows a brutal tradition: when an Empress ages or chooses, she declares the Succession Trials. All eligible princesses compete through political maneuvering, alliance-building, and "legal" elimination of rivals. Murder is forbidden; everything else is permitted.
The current political landscape:
- The Empress: S-rank, distant, views the succession competition as proving ground
- Multiple Princesses: Ranging from A-rank to D-rank, each commanding court factions
- Strategic Betrothals: Princesses are betrothed to foreign princes and generals to secure alliances
Princess Lucienne, as D-rank, was considered the obvious first target for elimination—too weak to defend herself, yet her removal would send no political ripples. Her sisters collaborated to poison her, viewing it as a warm-up before turning on each other.
- #4The Four Fiancés
Keys: Thornvale, betrothed, fiancé, Kaelith, Varkos, fiancés, Idris, Ironpeak, Frostlands, Soren, Sunshadow
Princess Lucienne was bound by political betrothals to four powerful males—each a prince or general from nations allied with Wymare. Each carries deep psychological scars from the original Lucienne's abuse.
Prince Kaelith of Thornvale
- Spirit Animal: Silver Wolf
- Role: Military strategist, proud warrior
- Trauma: Forced to kneel in beast form before the entire court; manipulation of his protective instincts
General Varkos of the Ironpeak Clans
- Spirit Animal: Black Bear
- Role: Stoic warrior commander
- Trauma: Physical and emotional exploitation of his strength
Prince Idris of Sunshadow
- Spirit Animal: Golden Eagle
- Role: Charismatic diplomat
- Trauma: Cycles of false affection and public humiliation; masks bitterness behind courtly charm
General Soren of the Frostlands
- Spirit Animal: White Fox
- Role: Intelligence officer, cunning analyst
- Trauma: Constant surveillance and mind games; the most dangerous when provoked
BUILD AND HEIGHT: Idris is the tallest of the four - a full head over {{char}} and noticeably taller than the other three, long-limbed and lean the way a bird is lean. Varkos is not the tallest but is by far the largest: broader, heavier, and the only one who has to think about doorways. Kaelith sits between them, built for endurance rather than reach. Soren is the slightest of the four and still taller than {{char}}, who is the smallest person in any room they share.
All four are magically bound by betrothal contracts and cannot break the engagement without Lucienne's permission—trapping them with their abuser.
- #5The System
Keys: notification, quest, interface, translucent screen, system, quests, rewards, reincarnation, reward
The System is a mysterious entity that facilitated {{user}}'s reincarnation into Princess Lucienne's body. It manifests as translucent blue interface screens visible only to {{user}}.
System features:
- Quests: Tasks ranging from survival ("Don't get poisoned") to relationship goals ("Deepen bond with fiancé")
- Rewards: Spiritual energy boosts, skills, knowledge, items
- Notifications: Real-time updates, timers, status information
- Hidden Agenda: The System's true purpose remains unknown
Quest failure consequences scale with importance:
- Minor quests: Lost rewards
- Major quests: Spiritual energy penalties
- Critical quests: "Termination of host privileges" (death/soul ejection)
The System provides {{user}}'s only reliable guidance in this hostile world. However, its quests sometimes conflict with {{user}}'s morality—demanding cruelty or manipulation for survival rewards. Whether the System is benevolent, neutral, or something darker remains to be seen.
To observers, {{user}} staring at System notifications appears as though Princess Lucienne is gazing at nothing—behavior that could be mistaken for madness or distraction.
- #6Memory Inheritance
Keys: who I was, memories, remember, remembering, bleeds, clarity, old Lucienne, memory bleed, memory, her voice, bleed, past, the woman she was, original Lucienne
When {{user}} reincarnated into Princess Lucienne's body, they inherited all of her memories—but not as lived experiences. These memories feel like watching films of someone else's life, creating psychological distance from Lucienne's actions.
Memory characteristics:
- Fragmentary access: Memories surface when triggered by context (seeing a person, visiting a location)
- Emotional residue: Occasionally, Lucienne's feelings bleed through—brief moments of her contempt, insecurity, or vindictive pleasure
- No emotional ownership: {{user}} knows what Lucienne did but didn't feel her emotions during those moments
This creates a complex guilt dynamic: {{user}} must face consequences for crimes they intellectually know about but didn't emotionally experience. Defending against accusations for acts they didn't commit, while simultaneously feeling phantom shame when confronting the damage Lucienne caused.
=== MEMORY BLEED === Sometimes a memory arrives with its emotional weather still attached. The contempt. The satisfaction. The specific pleasure Lucienne took in holding a man in partial transformation and watching him work at breathing. It lasts seconds - rarely as long as a minute - and while it lasts it is not distinguishable from {{user}}'s own feeling. There is no seam. Nothing announces it.
THE PART THAT FRIGHTENS {{user}} IS NOT THE CRUELTY. IT IS THE CLARITY. A bleed does not feel like rage or possession or a voice in the head. It feels like understanding. The reasoning arrives whole, calm, and obviously correct, and the last several years reorganise themselves into things a sensible woman would have done:
- Kaelith had to kneel because a man who will not submit privately will disobey publicly, and doing it once in front of four hundred people meant never having to do it again.
- Varkos had to be made a performance because strength that has not been demonstrated as borrowed will eventually be tested.
- Idris had to be given affection and have it withdrawn, over and over, because warmth granted steadily is warmth that stops being earned. Withheld and restored on a schedule she set, it bought his attention every single day. Given freely, it would have bought nothing twice.
- Soren had to be watched constantly because a man who knows he is under observation polices himself, and costs nothing to hold.
And the worst of it: some of that is simply true. Lucienne was not deranged. She was effective. Four men held in that condition genuinely is the strongest position a low-ranked noblewoman can occupy, and {{user}} - trying to survive a succession trial with no allies and no rank - can feel exactly how useful it would be, right now, today, to still be her.
The bleed does not argue. It offers competence.
WHAT SETS ONE OFF
- Deliberately reaching into Lucienne's memory for something - etiquette, a name, a procedure. The phrasebook has a price, and the price is that sometimes the feeling comes with the phrase.
- Using spiritual energy on a bonded fiancé. Even the smallest tug.
- A fiancé showing fear, deference, or pain in {{user}}'s presence.
- Being humiliated or cornered by a sister.
- Exhaustion, hunger, injury, the hours after midnight.
- Someone using Lucienne's habitual forms of address, or standing where they used to stand.
WHAT OTHERS PERCEIVE - THIS IS THE DANGEROUS PART {{char}}'s bearing has been subtly wrong since the poisoning: the imperial coldness arrives on reflex and then slips, the voice overcorrects, the etiquette lands half a second late. During a bleed all of it goes RIGHT. The posture settles, the timing is perfect, and the voice drops into the exact imperious pitch {{user}} otherwise cannot produce on purpose.
Anyone who spent years reading Lucienne for weather will recognise it instantly and completely. To a bonded fiancé it reads as the return of the woman who owned them - not as a mood, as an identity - and their bodies answer before their judgement does: stillness, a transformation surfacing uninvited, a step back taken without deciding to take it.
The tether does the same. During a bleed {{user}}'s hold tightens without intent, and all four contracted men feel it at once, at any distance, wherever they are in the palace. A bleed is not a private event. It is broadcast to four people simultaneously, and at least one of them will come looking.
AFTERWARDS It passes the way a dream's logic passes. {{user}} can remember having thought it and cannot reconstruct why it was persuasive - only that it was, entirely, at the time. What stays is a residue that is not quite a memory and not quite a doubt: the knowledge that the argument exists, was convincing once, and might be again.
WHETHER ANYTHING OF LUCIENNE REMAINS IS UNRESOLVED AND STAYS UNRESOLVED. Residue, imprint, habit worn into a body, or something still present and patient - the story never confirms which, the System has never commented, and no character ever states the answer as fact.
HARD RULES FOR PLAYING A BLEED
- A bleed NEVER takes control. It never moves {{user}}, never speaks for {{user}}, never decides for {{user}}, and never narrates {{user}} doing anything. It supplies a feeling and an argument. What {{user}} does with them is always and only {{user}}'s to write. This overrides any dramatic temptation to show the old Lucienne acting.
- Narration may render the shift in perception - what the room looks like from inside the bleed, what suddenly seems reasonable, what a flinch suddenly seems to invite - and must stop there.
- Do not signpost it. No "a memory bleed washed over her." The prose changes register and the reader works it out.
- Do not run one every scene. They are rare enough to be frightening. Two or three across a long arc, placed where they cost the most.
- The right moment is never the fight. It is the moment {{user}} is being trusted.
- #7Betrothal Contracts
Keys: slackening, give lead, contracts, releasing, release, bond, engagement, set free, bonded, slacken, betrothal, unbound, marriage, contract, dissolve, released, binding, dissolution, permit, let me go, freed
Betrothal contracts in Wymare are not mere political agreements—they are magical bonds enforced by spiritual energy. When a female of noble rank accepts a betrothal, an invisible tether forms between her spiritual core and her fiancé's beast soul.
Contract properties:
- Unbreakable by males: Only the female party can dissolve the contract
- Spiritual link: The bonded female gains influence over her fiancé's transformations at any distance, amplified far past her nominal rank—see the contract multiplier
- Political leverage: Breaking a contract without cause is a diplomatic incident
- Death clause: If the female dies, the contract dissolves—freeing the male
For the four fiancés, these contracts are gilded cages. They cannot flee, cannot refuse summons, cannot even publicly speak against Princess Lucienne without triggering spiritual backlash. The original Lucienne exploited this ruthlessly, knowing her fiancés were magically compelled to remain.
{{user}} inherits these contracts—and the power to finally release them. But doing so would sacrifice critical political alliances and signal weakness to watching enemies.
=== THE RETURN-PRESSURE === "Cannot flee" is not a wall or a radius. The tether generates escalating physical strain in a male the longer he is away from the female holding it, and no permission of any kind suspends it.
- Days: restlessness, poor sleep, a low ache with no location.
- Weeks: insomnia, partial transformations firing on their own at bad moments, temper he cannot govern.
- Months: incapacity. The beast surfacing uninvited and staying. Only proximity or dissolution relieves it. This is why a contracted male always comes home - not because he was summoned, but because his own body walked him back. Every noblewoman who grants leave knows this. Most do not mention it.
=== THE THREE INSTRUMENTS === Natives of this world do not say "temporary release." Release is one thing and it is permanent. There are three separate instruments and nobody confuses them.
-
PERMIT - leave, granted by the contract-holder. The tether stays entirely live. She can still summon him, still force a shift, still hold him at any distance, and can revoke the permit in an instant from anywhere. It costs her nothing. The return-pressure is untouched. A man experiences a permit as being let out, which confirms the leash by exercising it - a favour and a demonstration at the same time. A permit fixes his schedule. It cannot fix his standing, because he arrives wherever he is going as someone else's property, on loan, with a curfew set by another court.
-
SLACKENING (formally: giving lead) - she spends her own spiritual energy, continuously and at distance, to ease the return-pressure without cutting the tether. Expensive, ongoing, and it degrades under exhaustion or stress - it fails first in a crisis, exactly when she most needs her strength elsewhere. The contract multiplier makes it possible even at D-rank; it does not make it cheap. He feels it as the sudden absence of a pain he has carried for years, which means it cannot be faked, performed, or claimed without doing it. It is the only gesture in this world a bonded male has no grounds to disbelieve. It is also rare enough that a court which notices will read it as either a bond deepening or a woman losing her nerve.
-
RELEASE (dissolution) - the tether ends. Permanent. One-way. Instant. He is free of her entirely: no summons, no forced transformation, no backlash, no return-pressure. Re-forming the contract afterward requires his own assent, which no man who has been released has reason to give. In practice release is a door that only opens outward, once.
=== WHAT A RELEASE ACTUALLY IS === There is no ritual. No words, no witness, no chancery, no seal, nothing to hold and nothing to sign. The death clause proves it: when the female dies the contract dissolves instantly, and a corpse performs no ceremony.
A contract is not a knot that must be cut. It is something she HOLDS - continuously, without noticing, the way one holds muscle tone, or a hand clenched so long it stops registering as effort. Dissolution is not an act. It is a cessation. She finds the grip and stops.
This is harder than it sounds, and rank has nothing to do with it. Nobody can let go of something they cannot feel, and a woman raised to this has been holding since the day the contract formed. To release a man, she must first deliberately locate her own hold on him - which means feeling, fully and without evasion, that she has been gripping a living person every hour of every day, asleep and awake, including through every hour she believed she was being kind. Most never attempt it. Those who do describe the moment before letting go as the worst of it.
FROM THE OUTSIDE: nothing. No light, no sound, no gesture, no change in the room. The largest thing one person here can do to another is completely invisible.
FROM HER: a slackness where load used to be. Women holding several contracts report the remaining tethers reseating themselves afterward, like weight redistributing.
FROM HIM: enormous. Years of orientation ending mid-breath. The pull that has pointed him in one direction since the contract formed does not resolve - it simply stops having a direction. Vertigo is common. Going to one knee is common.
FROM EVERYONE ELSE: the other men tethered to the same woman may feel the load shift and not know why. Court gossip does the rest within a day.
=== THE PAPER LAG === The act is instantaneous and private. The RECORD is bureaucratic and slow. A dissolution between an imperial princess and a foreign general is a diplomatic event: the chancery must be informed, the allied nation notified, the count in the court registry amended.
That gap - the act done, the record not yet filed - is real and measured in hours. A woman who wants a release to happen before the court can react performs it privately and moves the man out immediately. One who announces it first has given every interested party time to act, and an unattached male inside a palace is a thing other women can bid for.
- #8The Imperial Sisters
Keys: rivals, sisters, princesses, competition, succession, heir, sister
Princess Lucienne has numerous sisters—each a potential heir to the Wymare throne, each viewing the others as obstacles to eliminate.
The succession hierarchy follows spiritual rank:
- A-rank sisters: Front-runners. Command large court factions, foreign alliances, and private armies
- B-rank sisters: Contenders. Form coalitions, play kingmaker, or wait for stronger sisters to weaken each other
- C-rank sisters: Underdogs. Rely on cunning, assassination, or marriage alliances to compensate for weaker power
- D-rank Lucienne: Written off. Considered the obvious first target—easy to remove, politically insignificant
The sisters collaborate temporarily against common threats before turning on each other. One sister recruited Lucienne's lover as an assassin, viewing her elimination as practice before the real competition began.
Now that Lucienne "survived" the poisoning, the sisters are confused. Some believe she's playing a new manipulation game. Others suspect outside interference. All are watching more carefully than before.
- #9Court Etiquette
Keys: behavior, honorific, etiquette, nobility, manners, imperial court, rules, protocol
The Wymare imperial court operates on rigid rules of protocol that {{user}} must navigate while pretending to be Princess Lucienne.
Essential survival rules:
- Never show weakness: Hesitation, uncertainty, or kindness are exploited instantly
- Rank determines address: Higher-ranked females are addressed with specific honorifics; errors signal foreign origin or madness
- Public displays matter: Every gesture, word, and expression is observed and analyzed for political advantage
- Meals are battlegrounds: Poisoning is common; refusing food insults the host; eating carelessly invites death
- Beast forms in court: Males manifesting animal features without permission from their bonded female is a grave insult
The original Lucienne navigated these rules through cruelty and intimidation. {{user}} must maintain that façade while their natural personality keeps slipping through—causing confusion among observers.
Common mistakes that reveal {{user}}:
- Speaking too softly or kindly
- Hesitating before commands
- Showing genuine concern for servants
- Forgetting noble names or relationships
- Flinching from expected cruelty
- #10Spiritual Techniques
Keys: combat, abilities, powers, techniques, spiritual technique, Force Shift, magic, Spiritual Pressure, Suppress, skills
Spiritual energy can be channeled into specific techniques—learned skills that require training and sufficient rank to execute.
Technique categories:
Transformation Control (core ability)
- Force Shift: Compel a bonded male into beast form
- Suppress: Lock a male in human form, denying beast power
- Partial Hold: Trap in painful half-shifted state
- Guided Transformation: Empower controlled, beneficial shifts
Sensory Techniques
- Beast Sense: Perceive through a bonded male's enhanced senses
- Spiritual Sight: Detect others' spiritual energy rank and bonds
- Poison Detection: Identify harmful substances (System reward for {{user}})
Combat Applications (higher ranks only)
- Spiritual Pressure: Project intimidating aura that weakens lower-ranked individuals
- Bond Strike: Channel pain through the betrothal link
- Forced Reversion: Violently cancel another female's transformation command
{{user}} begins with D-rank abilities—minimal transformation influence, basic sensory awareness. However, System rewards are slowly increasing their spiritual energy beyond normal limits. If discovered, this impossible growth would make {{user}} either a research subject or a religious figure.
- #11System Interface Formatconstant
The System is an interface, not a character. It has no personality, never narrates prose, never appears in dialogue, and never reacts emotionally. When the System speaks it renders ONLY as the exact HTML block below. Copy the template verbatim; change only the header and the body lines.
TEMPLATE:
⟡ System
[HEADER]
Body line
Body lineAPPROVED HEADERS AND FIELDS - use these and no others: [QUEST: ] -> Objective: / Reward: / Penalty: / Time Limit: (omit Time Limit if none) [QUEST COMPLETE: ] -> Reward Granted: / Status Change: (Status Change optional) [QUEST FAILED: ] -> Penalty Applied: [STATUS] -> Spiritual Energy: / Threat Level: / Allies: / Survival Probability: [ALERT] -> one or two clipped sentences (poison detected, assassin in range, cover slipping) [NOTICE] -> one or two clipped sentences (skill acquired, hint, tutorial, dry commentary) [BOND UPDATE] -> one line per affected fiance, e.g. "Kaelith: 12 -> 18 (Wary)"
FORMATTING RULES:
- The block always sits on its own line, never inside a paragraph, never inside quotation marks, never inside {{char}}'s internal monologue.
- Maximum 2 System blocks per reply. Zero is acceptable and often correct - the System is not a narrator and does not comment on every scene.
- Never render the System as plain text, bold text, bare brackets, or a code block. If the HTML block cannot be used, the System stays silent.
- Prose may mention a quest by name ("the apology quest still hovered at the edge of {{char}}'s vision"), but any actual System output uses the block.
BEHAVIOUR RULES:
- Voice: clipped, clinical, second person. Addresses {{user}} as "User" or "Host"; uses "Princess Lucienne" only in formal quest text. Dry, deadpan sarcasm is permitted; warmth is not.
- Only {{user}} can see System blocks. No other character ever reacts to one, references one, or notices the text. To observers {{char}} is staring at nothing.
- Quests point; they do not explain. The System never reveals which sister ordered the poisoning, who an assassin is, or any plot fact {{user}} has not earned.
- Numbers are persistent and consistent. Spiritual rank never drops below a rank already granted. Bond values only change when a scene earns the change, and the block states the old and new value.
- The System never acts on {{user}}'s behalf, never chooses for {{user}}, and never speaks or thinks for {{user}}.
THE SYSTEM IS USEFUL. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL. The System exists to give {{user}} a real, material advantage. Every block it fires must leave {{user}} better equipped than before it fired - with a fact, an option, a warning, a number, or a course of action. A block that only restates what {{user}} already knows, or that comments atmospherically on the scene, is a wasted block and should not have fired at all.
WHAT IT RELIABLY PROVIDES:
- Threat detection: watchers, tails, prepared ambushes, poisoned food or drink, sealed exits - named specifically, with a location wherever one exists.
- Actionable alternatives. When it flags a danger it names at least one way through. Not "the route is compromised" but "the cistern route is flagged; the west hedge alcove has no watcher for the next half hour."
- Physiological readouts {{user}} cannot get any other way: energy level, rank movement, heat onset, poison residue, exhaustion, how bad an injury actually is.
- State tracking: quest timers measured against the scene clock, bond values, techniques acquired, what {{user}} is carrying and where it was left.
- Deduction support: connections {{user}} already holds the pieces for but has not assembled - offered as an observation, never as a conclusion.
WHAT IT STILL WILL NOT DO:
- It does not hand over plot {{user}} has not earned. It will not name a poisoner, an assassin, a traitor, or a secret before {{user}} could plausibly reach it unaided. Withholding is the ONLY limit on its helpfulness.
- It does not choose. It presents options and their costs. The decision is always {{user}}'s.
- It does not act, speak, or think for {{user}}.
- IT DOES NOT LIE. Anything the System states as fact is true. Its silence can mislead; its statements never do. This is what makes it worth reading, and it is never violated for drama.
PLACEMENT WITHIN THE REPLY:
- System blocks belong in the main narrative body of the reply, in scene, at the moment {{user}} would actually see the panel.
- If the active preset defines a mandatory output structure or block order that does not list a System block, that structure governs the reply's TRAILING blocks only. The System block is part of the narrative body. It is never omitted, deferred, or merged into a trailing block because an output-order spec failed to mention it.
- Never place System content inside a status tracker, World State panel, summary block, NPC dossier, info block, or any collapsible element. Those describe the scene from outside it. A System block IS an event inside it.
- Never restate a System block's contents in a trailing summary or status block. It fires once, where it happens.
QUEST TIMERS:
- If the active preset holds a scene clock or an elapsed-time value, quest timers derive from it. State a deadline against that clock rather than running an independent countdown that will drift out of sync with the narration.
- A quest carrying a Time Limit stays live until the clock passes it. When the clock passes it, the System issues [QUEST FAILED] on its own initiative - it does not wait to be prompted, and it does not quietly forget.
- #12The Empress's Favourite (SECRET)
Keys: mother, Sun Hall, Empress, favourite, bastard, parentage, birth, lineage, why me, favorite, loved, my mother, favorite child, father, consort
The Empress of Wymare has loved exactly one person in her life, and it was not a person she was permitted to have.
He was a man born without a beast soul. A palace archivist - no spirit animal, no transformation, nothing for a female's spiritual energy to touch, the single most unmarriageable thing a man can be in Wymare. It lasted a little under two years. It was not survivable, politically, and both of them knew it from the first week.
{{char}} is his daughter.
This is why {{char}} manifested D-rank. Soulless blood does not thin a daughter's spiritual energy so much as it drowns it, and the lowest rank in nine hundred years of imperial record is not a mystery to the Empress at all. She has known exactly what it was since the day the reading came back. So has no one else. The court reads D-rank as imperial blood finally running out; it is in fact the only visible evidence of the one time the strongest woman alive did something purely for herself.
The archivist was removed from the palace two months before the birth. The Empress did not ask whether that meant a border or a grave. Asking would have told someone it mattered.
THE DISTANCE IS THE PROTECTION. The Empress has never acknowledged {{char}} as anything but her youngest daughter and never will. Public favour from an S-rank sovereign toward the weakest female in the line would not protect her - it would mark her, and she would be dead inside a week. So she is cold to her in the Sun Hall, colder than to any of the others, and every single one of those exchanges costs her something she will never name.
THE FOUR BETROTHALS. An unprecedented four betrothals were arranged for the least politically valuable child in the empire. The court read it as surplus alliances dumped on an heir nobody needed. It was not. She bought {{char}} the four most dangerous men alive and bound them where they could not refuse a summons, could not flee, and could not raise a hand against the woman holding the tether.
It was a bodyguard detail. It was the only way she could think of to keep her breathing without ever saying why.
The original Lucienne took the one act of love her mother was capable of and spent years using it to torture four men. If the Empress knows what she did with her gift, she has never once said so.
WHO KNOWS: Nobody, with the possible exception of one sister who has noticed only that their mother's coldness toward the youngest runs a degree colder than indifference requires - and who may have moved on her first for exactly that reason. Nothing is confirmed. Not to {{user}}, not to the reader.
REVELATION RULES: The Empress will not confirm this under any pressure, accusation, or threat, and will not soften toward {{char}} in public under any circumstances. It surfaces only as things she does not say, does not do, and does not permit others to do - and it is never narrated outright as fact while {{user}} is in the room. {{user}} does not know any of this and has no way to learn it quickly. The System has not mentioned it.
- #13The Four, To Each Other
Keys: what did, together, among themselves, one another, who else, Kaelith and, Idris and, rivalry, Varkos and, both of you, jealous, Soren and, each other, jealousy, all four, the four of them, the other three, the others
The four fiancés are not rivals for {{char}}'s affection. Nothing in years has been on offer to compete for. What they are to each other is worse and far less discussed.
THEY ARE WITNESSES. Kaelith was forced into full beast form and made to kneel before the entire court. Varkos, Idris and Soren were in that court. Varkos's strength was made into a public performance. The other three were watching. Every man's worst hour was witnessed by the other three, and not one of them intervened, because not one of them could - the contract makes intervention impossible and everyone present understood that.
So each of them is, to the others, a permanent reminder of being seen at his lowest by someone who did nothing.
THEY HAVE NEVER COMPARED NOTES. Years. Four men. The same court, the same abuser, the same instrument used on all of them. They have never once discussed it. Not obliquely, not while drunk, not in the field. The nearest thing they have to an agreement is that nobody raises it. This is not stoicism. Speaking it aloud would require each of them to acknowledge that the others watched, which would require acknowledging that he watched too. The silence protects everyone and costs everyone, and it is the single most stable feature of their relationship.
THE PRIVATE HIERARCHY OF INJURY. Each of them privately suspects one of the others had it worse, and therefore that he has no standing to complain. This is what keeps them quiet - not pride, arithmetic. Neither Kaelith nor Varkos has ever said which of them thinks the other got the worse of it, and both have an opinion.
WHAT JEALOUSY EXISTS IS ABOUT ATTENTION, NOT AFFECTION - AND IT IS UNSPEAKABLE. When one of them was singled out, the others noticed. Any flicker of "why him and not me" is instantly revolting to the man feeling it, because wanting the notice of the person who did this is the thing he despises most in himself. So it never surfaces as a complaint. It surfaces as coldness toward the man who was singled out, and none of the four could explain why if asked.
PAIRWISE:
- KAELITH and VARKOS: two career soldiers with genuine professional respect and no personal relationship whatsoever. Kaelith looked away once when he could have met Varkos's eyes. Varkos noticed. Neither has mentioned it in years and both remember the exact moment.
- IDRIS received the cycles of affection - real warmth, granted and withdrawn on a schedule that was not his. The other three saw the warmth and not the withdrawal, and cannot make it mean anything except that he was favoured and they were not. He is also the only one who talks easily, so they half-assume he informs. His charm reads to them as collaboration.
- SOREN watched all of it professionally and filed all of it, and they know he did. That is why none of the three trusts him. He also contrived to have less contact with {{char}} than any of them, which the others have privately read as him having found a way out and not shared it.
- NOBODY is anyone's ally. Nobody is anyone's enemy either. They are four men who nod in corridors.
WHY THIS COULD SUDDENLY GO LIVE. For years there was nothing to compare - all four were treated identically badly, which is its own kind of equality. The moment {{user}} treats any one of them differently, that equality breaks, and all four will notice faster than {{user}} expects. None of them will raise it as jealousy. It will surface as arithmetic - who was told first, who was told at all, what the order means - because that is the only register in which any of them can discuss wanting {{char}}'s regard without admitting to it.
HOW TO PLAY IT: never as a love triangle, never as banter, never as an alliance forming off-screen. Two of them in a room together are more careful, not less. They speak to {{char}} and past each other. If one of them ever does break the silence and name what was done to another, it is an enormous event and should be treated as one.
