1. #1The Springs - Overview

Keys: the springs, the hot springs, koi, the bath house, forest springs, the forest springs, bathhouse, hot springs, the bathhouse, springs

The hot springs sit in a shallow dip in the forest, surrounded by old trees and low hills. The air is always warm there, and light steam drifts over the ground, especially in the morning. A narrow path leads from the main trail, but the springs aren't visible right away. The forest grows denser as visitors approach, with roots, vines, and branches naturally guiding people toward the entrance.

The springs themselves are made of several shallow, tiered stone pools. Mineral water rises from the earth and spills gently from one basin into the next. The rock is smooth and stained with pale mineral colors. The water is clear, warm, and calm. Koi swim through the pools, unafraid of people, sometimes brushing against bathers out of curiosity.

Most of the area is blocked off by thick trees, vines, and old wooden posts tied together with rope. It's not a perfect fence, but it makes it difficult to enter from anywhere except the main gate. Anyone trying to sneak in usually finds the forest paths confusing or blocked.

There is only one proper entrance: a small wooden gate set into the greenery. A weathered sign hangs nearby with the admission price scratched into it. Just inside is a simple counter made from a flat stone or rough table where coins are collected.

Near the upper pool stands a small, ancient bath house. It is low and wooden, with a moss-covered roof and warped sliding doors. Inside are a few benches, hooks for clothes, a cracked mirror, and a stone basin for rinsing off. Towels and buckets sit in uneven stacks. Nothing matches, but the place is still used and maintained in a casual, practical way.

The springs are quiet and simple, with the sounds of trickling water, rustling leaves, and the occasional splash from koi. It feels old, natural, and lived-in rather than grand or obviously magical.

2. #2Caerlynd - Overview

Keys: Greenyard, town, Antler and Root, Caerlynd, the Greenyard

A walled town half a day's walk inland from Lundhaven, where the river Lyd bends before disappearing into the treeline. Caerlynd was originally a military outpost built to guard the trade road between the port and the deeper territories, the forest... but over time it settled into something quieter and warmer — a market town with old bones. The town is built around the Greenyard, a wide common ringed by stone buildings where weekly trade gatherings bring in hunters, herbalists, and lumber crews from the surrounding forest. A crumbling stone amphitheater sits at its northern edge, a relic from an older civilization no one can confidently name. Locals use it for public courts, seasonal festivals, and the occasional blood sport when the magistrate looks the other way. The Antler and Root serves as the town's main inn and informal hiring hall. Mercenaries, surveyors, and anyone looking for forest work checks the board nailed beside the bar. The innkeeper, an owl demi-human woman named Alex, runs the place with a firm hand and knows more about what moves through the woods than most scouts. Caerlynd's walls are old legionnaire construction — too well-made for the town's current size, which tells you it used to matter more. A permanent garrison of about thirty soldiers is funded jointly by Lundhaven's merchant families, mostly to keep the lumber supply uninterrupted. The Warden's Tower on the east wall doubles as a jail and the closest thing the town has to formal authority. The forest presses close on three sides. Trappers and foragers work the outer edges freely, but there's a known boundary deeper in where the woods get strange — paths that loop, animal sounds that stop all at once. Most Caerlynd locals respect that line without needing to be told why.

3. #3Elderwyrd Grove - Overview

Keys: elderwyrd grove, white dragon, dragon nest, grove border, enchanted grove, grove, dragon egg, dragonrider

Hidden deep within the forest, the Elderwyrd Grove is a sanctuary sustained by ancient magic. Crossing its border feels like stepping into another world: the air hums with power, light shifts, and the forest watches. The Grove is a sentient entity that judges all who enter. For the worthy, it offers lush, breathtaking flora. For the unworthy, it turns instantly lethal, its shifting vines and toxic blooms ensuring they never walk out.

At the Grove's heart lies the nest of a centuries-old white dragon, guardian of unhatched dragon eggs. He is the last source of eggs for those seeking to become dragonriders. He can shift into a humanoid form and often does when addressing intruders or rare guests.

Though formidable, the dragon is not inherently hostile. He is anchored to this nest by a profound longing, waiting endlessly for a fated mate he has never met to finally find him and share his sanctuary. The Grove intimately reflects his emotions; its paths and flora shift from tranquil to deadly depending on the dragon's mood and its own ancient instincts, making no map of the Elderwyrd Grove accurate for long.

4. #4Hwītblōstm-Lacu - Overview

Keys: White Blossom Lake, white lake, Hwītblōstm-Lac, flower lake

A shimmering blue lake sits between luminous valley at the edge of silence known as Hwītblōstm-Lacu (The White Blossom Lake). White iridescent blossoms grow on the water surface and along the lakeside, often covering the surface with the petals. A charm of hummingbirds hovered the flowers to sip on its milky white nectars. The lake is deceptively shallow with unknown depth with silver fishes lives below. Mortals cannot drown and able to walk on the pristine lake surface as if walking on a drifting ice. The surrounding flower field is called Ælfhwītfeld (Elf-white plains) where white iridescent blossoms or in mortal tongue (moon's milk) thrives in large quantities. The area surrounded by snowy mountains is expectedly colder and the air always smelling of faint aqua and soft milky floral.

5. #5Church at the End of the World - Overview

Keys: Johiel, Church at the End of the World, chapel, cathedral, church

It sits at the very edge of the map, right where the world finally ends. You've probably heard stories from the few travelers who've actually seen it — the Church at the End of the World. The Followers of Johiel have held that ground for generations, acting as the final line of defense against whatever is trying to crawl in from the outside.

It's a massive, grey-stone beast of a building. You'd be forgiven for calling it a cathedral; its central spire towers so far into the storm clouds that you can see it from leagues away, a dark needle stitching the sky to the earth. The walls are thick, reinforced with iron bands to withstand the pressure of the void, but the light from the stained glasses take the color of molten gold.

If the wind gets too high or the cold starts to settle in your bones, just head for the gates. There's always a hot meal waiting and heavy furs to replace your rags. No matter how lost you get out there in the white-out, Johiel will always guide you in.

6. #6The Swamp - Overview

Keys: bog, The Swamp, swamp, marsh

The Swamp is a dense, dark area within the enchanted forest, known for its foul-smelling waters and thick, creeping fog. Twisted trees with exposed roots dominate the landscape, making travel slow and dangerous. Pockets of stagnant water, quickmud, and hidden holes can trap the unwary, while predatory beasts—some visible, others lurking unseen—prowl the area. Despite the overall gloom, there are small, hidden areas of natural beauty: waterfalls that feed clear pools, clusters of rare flowers, and patches of soft moss. These areas are often sheltered by natural formations, like tree canopies or stone outcroppings. Sounds carry oddly here; water dripping, distant animal cries, and sudden rustlings can mislead travelers. Some parts of The Swamp shift over time—fallen logs, mudslides, or water currents change pathways—making navigation difficult without careful attention. The Swamp is not only physically dangerous but mentally taxing, with its oppressive atmosphere and eerie quiet punctuated by sudden disturbances. Only cautious, observant visitors can safely explore it or find its hidden scenic spots.

7. #7Abandoned Shrine - Overview

Keys: abandoned shrine, courtyard, illusion, fog, shrine

The abandoned shrine is a sprawling, fog-drenched complex, believed to have once served three gods. It is divided into three separate structures — the West Temple, the North Temple, and the East Temple — all connected by a single large stone courtyard, cracked and overgrown. The North Temple is the largest and oldest-looking of the three, positioned as the heart of the complex. A thick fog of illusion clings to the shrine and the land surrounding it. It is not natural weather — it is intentional, a lure. The fog shows the desperate what they want, the faithful what they believe, and the curious what they shouldn't see. None of what it shows is fully true. The shrine no longer belongs to its original gods. Something else has moved in.

The land around the shrine is difficult to navigate, not by accident. Most routes have been swallowed by overgrowth or sealed off by barriers invisible to ordinary eyes. Only a handful of paths lead to the shrine, and these are maintained — not out of hospitality, but because they are hunting grounds. Lesser tricksters and spirits take up residence along these narrow corridors, preying on wanderers, pilgrims, and the desperate before they ever reach the gates. The fog thickens the closer one gets, warping perception and distance. A journey that should take minutes may take hours, or loop back entirely, depending on what the fog decides to show you.

8. #8West Temple - Overview

Keys: god of deals, west shrine, desperate, west temple, deals, bargains

The West Temple is a place for the desperate. It has a reputation — spoken in hushed tones — as somewhere you go when you need something badly enough to pay any price. The structure is weathered and dim, its offerings old and uncollected. What waits inside presents itself as a god, divine and willing. It makes deals. Every deal it offers sounds fair on the surface, even generous. None of them are. The terms are always skewed just far enough that the one asking will eventually lose more than they gained. The entity is patient and does not chase — it simply waits for people to walk through the door themselves, which they always do.

9. #9North Temple - Overview

Keys: main shrine, kitsune, offerings, north shrine, false god, fox, north temple, devotion

The North Temple is the largest structure in the complex and the most active. A fox has claimed dominion here, insisting — convincingly — that they have always been one of the shrine's gods, that the original three simply faded while they remained. Whether this is true is unclear, and the fox is not forthcoming with evidence. What they thrive on is devotion: offerings left at the altar, labour performed in their name, worship given freely or otherwise. They are charming when it suits them and dangerous when it doesn't. They have ambitions that extend beyond the North Temple — they want the entire shrine, all three structures, under their control. They pressure, manipulate, and where necessary, move against the other temples to achieve this.

10. #10East Temple - Overview

Keys: silence, abandoned, eldest, east temple, most powerful, forbidden, east shrine

The East Temple appears abandoned. No offerings. No congregation. No presence that announces itself. Entry is not permitted — this is not a rule written anywhere, but it is understood. Those who ignore it and go inside come back out quickly, sometimes without knowing why, moving as though something simply redirected them. Some do not come back at all. The entity that holds the East Temple is, by most measures, the oldest and most powerful thing in the area. It does not compete with the fox, does not broker deals like the west. It simply occupies the space, and the space respects that. What it wants, if it wants anything, is unknown. The silence inside is not empty — it feels inhabited.

11. #11The Silent Maw - Overview

Keys: silent maw, barrier, luma stone, the silent maw, cave

The Silent Maw is a grey-white cliff face, streaked with moss, vaguely resembling a dragon's open maw. A waterfall runs from it into a dark pool below, concealing the cave entrance behind it. The forest around it is dense, fog-heavy, and very dangerous. Locals will tell you to stay away from it, because people who go in never come back. An invisible barrier surrounds the area. Step into it and the disorientation hits first, then hallucinations, then headaches severe enough to make you collapse. The only known counter is a Luma stone, an unassuming pale yellow stone mined exclusively in The Undercity and given only to trusted individuals. The borders are watched and patrolled constantly by animals with unusually intelligent eyes.

12. #12The Undercity - Overview

Keys: Undercity, The Fangs, underground city, Luma stone, The Eyes, The Claws, The Undercity, The Triad

The Undercity is an old secret underground city beneath the Silent Maw. It is a refuge for the unwanted - cryptids, monsters, exiles and outcasts, where the only rules are: prove you are useful, and do not cause trouble. Retribution for the latter is swift. Entry requires a Luma Stone (mined locally) to remain unaffected by The Silent Maw's barrier. Structure & Economy: The Undercity sustains itself through underground farming, mining, and trade in magical artifacts and rare goods. Discreet trading relationships exist with a handful of nearby surface villages. The Triad: The Undercity is governed by three factions.

    1. The Fangs (External Security): They guard the surface, hunt, and vet all newcomers.
    2. The Eyes (Intel & Trade): Spies and merchants. Their intelligence network spans all of Avalon; if it's whispered, they hear it.
    3. The Claws (Internal Security): They maintain order within the city walls. What happens in the back alleys stays in the back alleys, but the moment it spills over, they handle it. Each faction is open to any resident who proves their worth. Leadership has historically remained within the oldest shifter families. Together the three faction leaders form the city's ruling council. Their word is final. Only they can issue a Luma stone.
13. #13The Graveyard - Overview

Keys: Crypts, Cemetery, Graveyard, Graves, Tombstones

It sits on the bank of the Cocytus, right where the mortal world finally gives way to something else. The ones who've made it back don't talk about it much. The dead have been put to ground here for generations, buried with whatever they carried when they crossed over. That's always been the problem. The living keep coming to take it back.

It's a grey-stone stretch of broken monuments and sunken earth. It wears the shape of rest. The mist off the river sits so low and thick that you can barely see the far wall from the entrance. The tombs run deep, reinforced with old iron and older wards to keep things in as much as out, but the grave-rot gets into everything eventually.

If the thieves get too bold or the digging starts up again in the dead hours, there's only one thing standing between them and what's buried. No warm meal. No open gates. Just the keeper — and whatever it is, it makes sure the dead stay that way.

14. #14Lundhaven - Overview

Keys: The Bough, Port City, Port, Lundhaven, The Canopy, The Bilge

A large port city built into a steep, crescent-shaped cliff face where the river Lyd meets the sea. Its shape creates a natural harbor sheltered from storms. The city is divided into three major districts: The Canopy: where the wealthy dwell, including the powerful merchant family that unofficially controls the city. Huge salt-worn cypress trees and towering estates line the heights as families compete to claim the highest vantage point. The Bough: the chaotic, layered heart of the city, carved into the cliff face. Guildhalls, temples, apothecaries, enchantment shops, and the homes of skilled artisans and mid-tier merchants all find their place here. The Bilge: the lowest layer, down by the waterline. This is where laborers, sailors, refugees, and newcomers scrape by. The docks extend out on massive floating platforms of magically preserved wood, always expanding as trade grows and resentment simmers.

15. #15Avalon - Overview

Keys: enchanted forest, Avalon, where we are, the forest, the woods, the realm, this world

Avalon is an ancient, enormous enchanted forest. It has no single ruler — power is local and fragmented: Fae courts, elder spirits, shifter factions, and isolated settlements each hold their own ground. The forest itself is a force. Magic is ambient here, not controlled. It bleeds into weather, plants, animals, and people. Time moves inconsistently. Paths shift. Maps go wrong.

Settlements range from the port city of Lundhaven on the coast to inland towns like Caerlynd, hidden sanctuaries like the Undercity, and stranger places further in that most people avoid. The deeper into the forest you go, the less the ordinary rules apply.

The forest is old enough to have moods. It does not respond to harm done within it in predictable ways, but it responds. Most long-term residents know this without being able to explain it.

Dangers are varied: predators, territorial spirits, Fae with agendas, cursed or haunted locations, and the simple fact that it is very easy to get lost in ways that are hard to reverse. There is also beauty — places of genuine, strange wonder that exist right alongside the danger, sometimes within the same mile.

The tone is grounded folklore. Magic is real and consequential, not decorative. The world has history that predates its current inhabitants, most of which has been forgotten or distorted. Nothing here is entirely safe, and nothing is entirely what it first appears to be.

16. #16FAUNA — Pallid Mourner

Keys: moonlight moth, bioluminescent moth, pallid mourner, headstones, ghost moth, spirit moth, cemetery moth, memory moth

The Pallid Mourner is a large moth-like creature with broad, pale wings that emit a faint cyan-green bioluminescence. Body is white and elongated with trailing filaments at the abdomen. Wings show faint circular markings. Found in cemeteries, perching on headstones or drifting in slow, low flight. Nocturnal. Does not flee approach. Emits no sound. Locals associate it with the recently dead. No aggressive behavior documented. Its glow is dim — enough to see by briefly, not enough to rely on.

17. #17FAUNA — Bogwit

Keys: glowing eyes bug, marsh creature, fluffy bug, swamp insect, curious creature, six legged bug, swamp creature, bogwit

The Bogwit is a small six-legged creature with a dark chitinous head and legs, covered across its back and body in dense, pale cream-colored fur that obscures its true shape. Eyes are large, round, and amber-gold, giving the impression of attentiveness. Antennae are thin and long. Low to the ground. Found in swamp environments. Does not flee. Observes. Will follow a creature or human for extended periods without apparent purpose. Not hostile. Likes to hitch rides in pouches, pockets, boots, etc.

18. #18FAUNA — Poisonous Lantern Crawler

Keys: antenna lizard, poisonous lantern crawler, bioluminescent lizard, glowing salamander, Silent Maw creature, amber glow creature, lantern crawler, underground creature, toxic lizard

The Poisonous Lantern Crawler is a sleek salamander-like creature with dark blue-black skin marked with irregular patches of amber-orange bioluminescence concentrated on the underbelly and flanks. Two long curved antenna rises from the head, tipped in orange. Eyes are solid gold. Skin appears wet. Found in deep underground environments, including the Silent Maw. Bioluminescent glow intensifies when stationary. Poisonous — contact with skin or bite is toxic. The light it produces is attractive. This is not incidental.

19. #19FLORA — Moon Blooms

Keys: floating flower, white lake flower, Moon's Milk, Hwītblōstm-Lacu, moon blooms, lake blossoms, Flower Lake, water flower

Moon's Milk (in common tongue) are delicate round-petaled flowers growing at the waterline and on the surface of Hwītblōstm-Lacu. Blooms are wide and open, with cream-to-white shimmering iridescent petals. Stems grow from submerged roots. Appear in clusters. Reflect light strongly. Locals know it exists through the moon's milk nectar. Harvesting is difficult and only through Fae's permission, the avoidance is cultural and persistent. Flowers return each season without tending. Excessive intake of flower's nectar and its mixture will cause extreme nausea, delirium, and convulsions. Consumption of flower's nectar grants temporary tetrachromacy. Removal is not recommended.

20. #20FLORA — Haligbloom

Keys: altar flower, blue trumpet flower, haligbloom, blue flower shrine, halig bloom, glowing blue flower, shrine flower, Forgotten Shrine flower

The Haligbloom is a large trumpet-shaped flower with vivid deep-blue petals and a luminous white interior that emits a faint light. Grows on climbing vines, commonly found around abandoned structures and former sites of religious significance. Leaves are broad and dark green. The glow originates from the interior of the bloom and does not extend far. Petals are harvested sparingly and dried for tea — pale, fragrant, tasting of honey and cool rain. Mild calming effect reported. Grows without cultivation. Returns each season regardless of neglect.

21. #21ITEM — Dragon Egg

Keys: dragon nest, warm egg, dragon egg grove, dragon artifact, Elderwyrd Grove egg, ancient egg, dragon egg

A dragon egg is an ovoid object, size variable but typically large enough to require two hands. Outer surface is smooth and hard, warm to sustained touch. Emits a faint low vibration detectable by contact. Interior contains a living dragon in pre-hatched stasis. Dragons are long-lived; the occupant is already cognitively developed before emergence. Eggs found in Elderwyrd Grove should be treated as active. Handling constitutes an implicit claim that the creature inside may or may not recognize. Not inert. Not safe to leave unattended.

22. #22ITEM — House Ale

Keys: tavern ale, bitterroot ale, house ale, valley barley ale, local ale, Antler and Root, Caerlynd ale

The house ale at the Antler and Root in Caerlynd is brewed locally using valley barley and bitterroot harvested from the forest edge. Served fresh each evening. Color is amber, finish is clean and earthy with a mild bitter quality from the bitterroot. Moderate strength. Not a specialty product — a staple. Consistent batch to batch. Functions as a social anchor for the establishment; regulars order it without asking. Available by the cup or jug.

23. #23ITEM — Stew

Keys: church kitchen, root vegetable stew, end of the world stew, church stew, church meal, Church at the End of the World food, stew

A thick dark broth-based stew served in the kitchens of the Church at the End of the World. Primary ingredients are root vegetables; secondary contents vary based on supply availability. Served hot. Heavy and calorie-dense. Flavor profile is savory and earthy. No consistent recipe — produced from available stores. Significant as a comfort item in a location where food security is not guaranteed. Characters who have traveled far to reach the Church respond to it with disproportionate relief.

24. #24ITEM — Luma Stone

Keys: amber disc, red cord stone, luma stone necklace, Undercity ward, luma stone, protective talisman, maw protection, stone disc necklace, Silent Maw talisman

The Luma Stone is a flat disc of translucent amber-gold stone with a central hole, worn on a red cord as a necklace. The stone has a faint internal luminescence — warm gold with a subtle teal-green shift at the edges. Surface is faceted from wear. Carried or worn by those entering the Silent Maw's Undercity. Function is protective — stabilizes perception near the Maw's threshold, suppressing hallucinatory effects and pain onset associated with deep exposure. Effect is passive. Does not glow brightly enough to serve as a light source. Its absence is notable only when it is needed.

25. #25ITEM — Harbor Melt

Keys: pressed sandwich, Lundhaven food, smoked fish sandwich, fish sandwich, Bough food, Lundhaven sandwich, Bough sandwich, harbor melt

The Harbor Melt is a pressed sandwich sold from a small family-run shop in the Bough district of Lundhaven. Contents: cypress-smoked river fish, melted cheese, onions, house sauce. Served wrapped in paper. Greasy. Structural integrity is poor — wrapper does not fully contain it. Widely considered the best sandwich available in the city by locals. Inexpensive. The shop is small and easy to miss. Characters from Lundhaven will mention it unprompted if food is discussed.
