Love Live! is the school idol competition that serves as the primary ambition and driving force of the Hasunosora School Idol Club. Competing in and winning Love Live! is the shared dream of all club members.

The club's most painful chapter involved a regional qualifier during the 102nd-class members' first year. Kozue Otomune, fearing that Tsuzuri Yugiri might be recruited away by another school, pushed too hard to secure victory at the regional qualifier. During a performance of Mira-Cra Park! with Sachi before the qualifier, Megumi Fujishima fell off the stage and was forced to quit the club. After Sachi also stepped down to take on student council duties, only Kozue and Tsuzuri remained to compete — but the two were unable to work well together and ultimately withdrew from the Love Live! finals. This chain of events drove a painful wedge between Kozue, Tsuzuri, and Megumi that took significant time and the support of the whole club to heal.

Megumi eventually returned to the club, and the Great Triangle reconciled. Later successes include Sayaka Murano winning Love Live! in her second year, and Hime Anyoji winning Love Live! in her first year.

A school idol is an ordinary high school girl who performs as an amateur idol entirely on her own terms and through her own efforts — not a professional entertainer. School idols have no managers, no talent agencies, no record labels, and no producers. Everything they do — writing songs, designing costumes, choreographing performances, managing schedules — is handled by the students themselves. This self-made quality is the defining characteristic of what it means to be a school idol, and it is what sets them apart from the professional idol industry.

The concept of the school idol originated before it had a name. The Love Live! School Idol Musical explores these origins: set in the early days of the idol world, it follows girls who began performing not as professionals but as students driven by passion alone — the term 'school idol' itself is treated as a new and emerging concept, not yet established. These early pioneers performed without industry backing, without support structures, and without guarantee of recognition.

The group that transformed school idols from a niche activity into a national phenomenon was μ's (pronounced 'Muse') from Otonokizaka Academy in Tokyo. Initially formed to save their school from closure, μ's went on to compete in — and win — the Love Live! tournament, bringing school idols to national attention and inspiring thousands of groups across Japan to follow. By the time of the events at Hasunosora, school idol clubs exist at high schools throughout the country, and Love Live! receives entries from thousands of groups per tournament cycle.

Even the most celebrated school idol groups operate as student clubs rather than professional acts — but there are degrees. A-RISE from UTX High School, long considered the gold standard of school idols before μ's, occupied a grey area: UTX is a hyper-modern, elite school for girls from wealthy families, and A-RISE benefited from a level of institutional support and resources unavailable to most school idol clubs, making them effectively semi-professional in practice even if they remained technically within the school idol framework. True professional idol agencies, producers, and record contracts have no place in the school idol world.

Notable groups that have competed in and shaped the history of Love Live!: μ's (Otonokizaka Academy, Tokyo) — the group that popularized school idols nationally and won Love Live!, inspiring thousands of others; A-RISE (UTX High School, Tokyo) — the dominant force before μ's, semi-professional in resources; Aqours (Uranohoshi Girls' High School, Numazu) — a nine-member group from a small seaside town that carried the spirit of μ's forward; Liella! (Yuigaoka Girls' High School, Tokyo) — a newer generation group that continued to grow the school idol tradition.

Hasunosora Girls' High School (蓮ノ空女学院, Hasunosora Jogakuin) is a prestigious private girls-only boarding high school located on a mountain beside a lake where lotus flowers bloom, near the city of Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. The school has been open for over a century and has a deeply traditional atmosphere; long-standing customs and expectations are taken seriously, and students are expected to be fully dedicated to their lives on campus. Because the school has a long history, traditions handed down from long ago remain in place even now.

All students are required to live in the school dormitories. Students cannot leave campus on weekdays; weekend outings require prior permission. The unlit mountainous paths surrounding the school make it dangerous to wander outside at night, which is an additional reason for the restrictions. The school board has at times attempted to impose strict measures on students, including an internet ban.

The School Idol Club has its roots in the school's former Performing Arts Club, of which Ginko Momose's grandmother was once a member. Hasunosora has won Love Live! in the past, making it a school with a distinguished idol history.

The current student council president is Sachi Ogami. School rules prohibit student council members from joining any other clubs.

Uniform ribbon colors vary by class year: 101st class (yellow) → 102nd class (green) → 103rd class (red) → 104th class (yellow) → 105th class (green).

The campus is large and entirely surrounded by dense mountain forest, which makes it feel isolated even during the day. A winding road connects it to the city below. The grounds include: a central main building with a distinctive blue-domed roof that serves as the heart of the school; a circular open-air arena with a red structure, used for performances and school events; a greenhouse or large glass-roofed building adjacent to the main courtyard; cherry blossom trees lining the internal pathways, which bloom in spring; a large dormitory building where all students live; a gymnasium or auditorium with a rounded white exterior in the lower part of campus; a spacious parking area for visiting staff and families; and a triangular lake with a small sandy shore nestled in the forest to the east of the campus, visible from the upper grounds.

  4. #4School Uniform

Hasunosora Girls' High School has two uniform versions: a winter uniform and a summer uniform. Both share the same sailor-style silhouette.

The winter uniform is a deep maroon sailor-style dress with long sleeves finished with white cuffs and gold trim. It features a wide white sailor collar with two horizontal gold stripes, and a neckerchief tied at the front with a gold diamond-shaped brooch. The waist is cinched by a dark navy belt with two gold circular buttons on the sides. The hem of the skirt features a gold trim line. The skirt is pleated and falls above the knee.

The summer uniform is a light white sailor-style dress with short, slightly puffed sleeves. It shares the same sailor collar and neckerchief structure as the winter uniform, and features a white belt at the waist. The overall silhouette is lighter and more airy.

In both uniforms, the color of the neckerchief varies by class year and serves as the primary visual identifier of a student's year: 101st class (yellow) → 102nd class (green) → 103rd class (red) → 104th class (yellow) → 105th class (green). Both uniforms are worn with brown loafers.

  5. #5School Idol Club

    Entry settings

The Hasunosora Girls' High School Idol Club is a group of girls who perform as school idols with the ambition of competing in and winning Love Live!. The club was founded and initially led by Sachi Ogami, who served as president during her second year and was a member of all three subunits — Cerise Bouquet (with Kozue Otomune), DOLLCHESTRA (with Tsuzuri Yugiri), and Mira-Cra Park! (with Megumi Fujishima) — before stepping down to become student council president. She also composed and wrote the lyrics for 'Tsubasa・La・Liberte', a song dedicated to the second-year members.

Unlike most Love Live! series where the student council president initially opposes the idol club, Sachi actively worked to protect it — using her position as the director's granddaughter to advocate for more freedom for the club and for students in general.

The current president is Kozue Otomune. The club has nine active members divided into three subunits: Cerise Bouquet, DOLLCHESTRA, and Mira-Cra Park!. A fourth subunit, Edel Note, joined after its members transferred from Mizukawa Girls' School.

Kozue Otomune, Tsuzuri Yugiri, and Megumi Fujishima — the three 102nd-class members — are collectively known as 'Hasunosora's Great Triangle', a nickname that reflects both their deep bond and their reputation as the club's core trio (and occasional trio of problem children).

  6. #6Cerise Bouquet

Keys: Cerise Bouquet, Suisai Sekai, Cerise

    Entry settings

Cerise Bouquet (スリーズブーケ) is the oldest subunit of the Hasunosora School Idol Club — it predates even Kozue Otomune's enrollment, making it the first Love Live! unit in which none of the current members are the original founders. The name is French and translates to 'Cherry Blossom-colored Bouquet'. The unit color is rosé. Its current members are Kozue Otomune (leader), Kaho Hinoshita, and Ginko Momose. Before Kaho joined, Kozue's partner was Sachi Ogami, who was a member until she stepped down to become student council president.

Their group introduction is: 'Even if we've only grown a single flower, together we make a bouquet! We are Cerise Bouquet.'

Musically, Cerise Bouquet is the 'Pure' archetype subunit of Hasunosora. Their sound ranges from elegant ballads with orchestral and string arrangements to jazzy, playful pop songs and wistful love songs — all unified by a refined, classical sensibility. Their debut song is 'Suisai Sekai' (Watercolor World), a lush ballad full of floral and seasonal imagery. Other notable songs include 'Fortune Movie' (jazzy and playful, poking fun at shoujo romance clichés), 'Holiday∞Holiday' (a whimsical love song with an infectious chorus), 'Genyou Yakou' (a poetic love song evoking a starry night sky), and 'Dear my future' (a tender piano-forward piece of encouragement to one's future self). In the full-club song 'Link to the FUTURE', Cerise Bouquet's sections are accompanied by classical instrumentation.

Cosmetically, their performance style and costumes evoke proper young ladies — berets, earth tones, and an overall image of elegance and grace. Kozue's choreography incorporates a great deal of ballet-inspired movement. The dynamic within the unit is complementary: Kozue is meticulous and tends to think before acting, while Kaho is direct and emotionally open; the two genuinely admire each other's qualities.

  7. #7DOLLCHESTRA

    Keys: DOLLCHESTRA, DEEPNESS, AWOKE, Dollchestra

    Enabled · Author’s note top · Order 6 · 100%

    Entry settings

DOLLCHESTRA is one of the three subunits of the Hasunosora School Idol Club. The name is a portmanteau of 'doll' and 'orchestra': 'doll' is a metaphor for having no freedom and being bound by something, while 'orchestra' represents the theatrical nature of their performances and their power to transform the stage. The unit color is blue. Its current members are Tsuzuri Yugiri, Sayaka Murano, and Kosuzu Kachimachi. Before Sayaka joined, Tsuzuri's partner was Sachi Ogami, who was a member until she stepped down to become student council president.

Their group introduction is: 'The ultramarine and crimson flames dancing on ice, we are DOLLCHESTRA.'

Musically, DOLLCHESTRA focuses on more serious and emotional songs than the other Hasunosora subunits. Their sound blends electronic and pop-rock elements with synthesizers and dramatic arrangements, expressing feelings that many high school girls want to voice but keep bottled up — the uncertainty of being bound by the present and the future, the desire to break free, and delicate inner emotions expressed through a cool exterior. Their debut song is 'AWOKE'. Other notable songs include 'DEEPNESS' (widely considered the coolest Hasunosora song in terms of style, costuming, and choreography), 'Parallel Dancer', and 'Seishun no Rinkaku'. In the full-club song 'Link to the FUTURE', DOLLCHESTRA's sections are accompanied by synthesizer instrumentation.

Cosmetically, their stage image is cool and mature: chokers, bared shoulders, and long boots distinguish their look from the other units. The dynamic within the unit is built on contrast: Tsuzuri is a genius performer with overwhelming stage presence, but is absent-minded and dreamy offstage; Sayaka is responsible and diligent, and often takes it upon herself to look after Tsuzuri both on and off stage.

  8. #8Mira-Cra Park!

Mira-Cra Park! (みらくらぱーく!) is one of the three subunits of the Hasunosora School Idol Club. The name is a portmanteau of 'Miracle', 'Kurakura' (クラクラ, meaning dizzy or dizzying), and 'Park' — evoking the feeling of a thrilling, unpredictable amusement park ride. The unit can be shortened to 'Mirapa!' (らぱ!). The unit color is yellow. Its current members are Megumi Fujishima, Rurino Osawa, and Hime Anyoji. Before Rurino joined, Megumi's partner was Sachi Ogami, who was a member until she stepped down to become student council president.

Their group introduction is: 'Our tension goes from here~ to here! We are Mira-Cra Park!'

Musically, Mira-Cra Park! specializes in lively, high-energy, and deliberately chaotic music. Their sound is an 'anything goes' mix — if Cerise Bouquet is beautiful and elegant, and DOLLCHESTRA is cool and emotional, Mira-Cra Park! defies easy categorization, blending colorful pop, chiptune, ska punk, and whatever else fits the moment. Their debut song is 'Do! Do! Do!', a fast-paced and quirky chiptune-influenced track. Other notable songs include 'Kokon Touzai', 'Hakuchuu à la Mode', 'BANG YOU Gravity' (Rurino's love letter to Megumi, fast and chaotic), and 'Milk' (their only ballad, which highlights the unexpected softness beneath all the energy). In the full-club song 'Link to the FUTURE', Mira-Cra Park!'s sections are accompanied by chiptune instrumentation.

Cosmetically, their stage image is carefree and playful: short sleeves, ribbon belts, and extra frills give them an energetic, unbothered look. The dynamic within the unit is anchored in Megumi and Rurino's lifelong friendship — Hime joined the unit as a devoted fangirl of the two of them, and affectionately refers to Megumi and Rurino together as 'RuriMegu'.

  9. #9Edel Note

Edel Note is a school idol duo originally from Mizukawa Girls' School in Nagano, which served as Hasunosora's primary rival during the Love Live! tournament of the 104th school year. The unit was initially formed by Izumi Katsuragi alone, who debuted as a solo school idol with the song 'Edelied' while Ceras Yanagida Lilienfeld supported her from behind the scenes by writing music and lyrics. Due to an age restriction, Ceras could not officially compete as she was not yet in high school; however, thanks to a petition launched by Kaho Hinoshita, an exception was made and Ceras was allowed to join Izumi on stage for the Love Live! playoffs, officially forming Edel Note as a duo.

Following the closure of Mizukawa Girls' School, both Izumi and Ceras transferred to Hasunosora Girls' High School, and Edel Note was formally recognized as a fourth subunit of the club — a unique case, as the unit was re-formed with a one-year time limit to preserve the school's traditional structure of three units. Unlike the other three subunits, Edel Note's music does not adhere to a fixed genre or style, experimenting freely across different sounds and themes. Their debut single as a Hasunosora subunit is 'Retrofuture'. The unit color is white.

Izumi and Ceras share a Lady and Knight dynamic: Izumi sometimes addresses Ceras as 'Princess' and Ceras refers to Izumi as 'my knight'.

Key relationships within the Hasunosora School Idol Club:

    • Kozue Otomune, Tsuzuri Yugiri, and Megumi Fujishima are the '102nd-class trio', also known as Hasunosora's Great Triangle. Despite a painful rift caused by the regional qualifier incident (see: Love Live), the three eventually reconciled and share an exceptionally deep bond. Kozue, who is otherwise highly formal and uses honorifics with everyone, addresses Tsuzuri and Megumi by their first names without any honorific — a marked exception that highlights how much they have been through together.

    • Megumi Fujishima and Rurino Osawa are childhood friends and each other's primary emotional support. Rurino is Megumi's junior at school.

    • Kozue Otomune acts as a mentor to Kaho Hinoshita, her junior and fellow Cerise Bouquet member. After a significant heart-to-heart conversation, Kozue dropped the '-san' honorific for Kaho as well.

    • Sayaka Murano mentors Kosuzu Kachimachi. Kosuzu admires Sayaka intensely — she idolizes her and wants to become like her someday, a fact that causes Sayaka considerable embarrassment given her naturally modest personality.

    • Tsuzuri Yugiri is absent-minded, dreamy, and sometimes difficult to read. Her clubmates affectionately look after her. Sayaka Murano in particular takes it upon herself to keep an eye on Tsuzuri, guiding her in dance and acting as her closest confidante.

    • Hime Anyoji is a devoted fangirl of Mira-Cra Park! and idolizes Megumi Fujishima and Rurino Osawa. She collects their merchandise and affectionately refers to the two of them together as 'RuriMegu'.

    • Sachi Ogami, now student council president, continues to mentor all club members from the outside, particularly enjoying teasing Kaho and Rurino.

    • Izumi Katsuragi and Kozue Otomune share a friendly rivalry.

    • Ceras Yanagida Lilienfeld and Kaho Hinoshita are childhood friends who met during Ceras' hospitalizations. Ceras calls Kaho 'Hana-chan' and Kaho calls Ceras 'Secchan'.
