1. #1Chipped Aethysium

Keys: Aethysium, rift, Terrus, Low Elysium, Chipped Aethysium, Hel, High Elysium, Rift Crisis, realms

   Always on · After character · Order 10 · 10%

   Entry settings

Chipped Aethysium is a fractured creation shaped by a divine rebellion. The All-Mother created a paradise of islands; her consort, the Eventide King, rebelled and shattered them into one sprawling continent: Terrus (Low Elysium). The shock of that divine clash still echoes through reality, making magic volatile and the borders between realms weak in places. There are three realms: High Elysium (celestial order, angels, peace for the judged righteous), Terrus/Low Elysium (mortal world and proving ground), and Hel (the Eventide King’s prison-realm, torment for the judged wicked, source of corruption). Mortals build nations, wage wars, make faith and law, and survive the world’s beauty and cruelty—while knowing the afterlife and judgment are real.

2. #2Magic

Keys: Primal Magic, sigils, Sigil Magic, magic, demonic magic, Divine Magic, Eventide Skribe, Old Language

   Always on · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Magic exists everywhere on Terrus but is inherently chaotic due to the world’s fractured nature. Most casters rely on Sigil Magic—written sigils that stabilize and direct raw power. Other major traditions: Divine Magic (All-Mother; sacred Old Language), Primal Magic (Feywylds; incomprehensible script), and Demonic Magic (Eventide King; riddling Eventide Skribe). Magic is useful, feared, legislated, romanticized, and exploited depending on the nation.

3. #3Death

   Always on · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Death & Judgment (Life Grimoire) Type: Constant Content: When mortals die, Mortiferum Unum judges them using the Life Grimoire, a divine record of deeds, intent, and consequence. Souls judged righteous pass to High Elysium; souls judged wicked fall into Hel. Redemption is culturally acknowledged as possible in many places—your “book” can be changed by how you live—but most people also fear that some stains don’t wash out cleanly.

4. #4Rift Crises

Keys: planar rift, folk practice, Rift Wardens, Calimaarisca protocol, riftlight, wardlight, Rift-Lure, rift, riftlure, close the rift, anomaly, Nurahar crisis, realm breach, rifts, Hel rift, superstition, High Elysium rift, Rift Crisis, sealing a rift, breach

   Always on · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Rifts “lean” toward a realm and carry that realm’s influence: sensation, sound, mood, environmental effects, and sometimes entities or phenomena.

   ---

   When Rifts Open (Night Law)

Rifts do not open during the day. They open at night, and once present they may persist into daylight hours.

Light prevents rifts from opening—it does not repel an existing rift like a barrier. Bright, sustained illumination lowers the chance a rift will manifest in that area, especially if the light is structured (lantern rings, beacon grids) or reinforced by sigils and rites.

   ---

   Hel Rifts (Common, Dangerous)

Appearance: a greenish-brown tear/bruise in the air or space. Proximity effects: hallucinations (visual and auditory), often of spirits of the dead layered over reality. These commonly accompany dread, anger, nausea, insomnia, intrusive thoughts, and the sensation of being watched or hunted. Risk: Hel influence can cling to places and people even after sealing; aftercare and cleansing are often necessary.

   ---

   High Elysium Rifts (Rare, Ambiguous)

Frequency: rare. Size: never larger than a hand. Light: golden, pinkish glow. Sound: nearby people hear rushing water, even when no water is present. Proximity effects: often beneficial—soft warmth across the body, eased pain, calm clarity, sometimes healing.

Cultural rule: High Elysium rifts are not automatically treated as threats. Many communities treat them as blessings or sacred anomalies and will not close them unless harm is proven.

Danger: prolonged gazing can cause madness—fixation, mania, ecstatic terror, or catatonia—suggesting mortal minds cannot safely process what lies beyond.

   ---

   Rift Crises (Merging Events)

A Rift Crisis occurs when multiple rifts open in one area and merge together into a single, larger rift. The merged rift is far more destabilizing: wider influence radius, stronger reality warping, and higher risk of lasting regional change.

   ---

Historical Note: Nurahar High Elysium Crisis

Nurahar once suffered a rare High Elysium Rift Crisis. Many witnesses went mad. Those who could still speak claimed they saw the All-Mother herself within the rift. The crisis was ultimately closed because the harm outweighed any blessing, leaving a lasting cultural fear of “too much grace.”

   ---

Calimaariscan Rift Warden Protocol (Standard Response)

Used by: Calimaariscan Guild of Magic & Arcane Legislature; deployed as Rift Wardens during rift events and Rift Crises.

   Core doctrine

“Contain first. Illuminate always. Seal only when the seam is stable.”

   Field Classification (Warden shorthand)

   • Seep: minor manifestation—cold air, odd light/sound, localized wrongness; no visible tear yet.
   • Tear: visible rift present (Hel-green/brown or Elysium-gold/pink); influence radius established.
   • Bloom: rift widening/branching, reality distortions escalating, first intrusions likely.
   • Confluence: multiple rifts in the same zone interacting; high risk of Crisis merge.
   • Crisis: merged rift event or imminent merge; regional emergency.

   Step-by-step Response

   1. Night Containment & Illumination Establish a bright perimeter (lantern ring, mirrored lamps, mage-light pylons). Evacuate civilians. Keep the zone lit through the night to prevent secondary openings.

   2. Anchor the Seam Deploy sigil pylons/plates and a stitch-circle to stop expansion. Assign monitors to track sound/temperature/hallucination patterns.

   3. Resonance Read Identify lean: Hel (hallucinated dead, dread) vs High Elysium (rushing water, warmth/healing). Determine stability and branching risk.

   4. Decision Point: Seal / Sustain / Study

      • Hel rifts: default is seal immediately once stabilized.
      • High Elysium rifts: default is restrict access and observe, not seal—unless mental harm, social collapse, or secondary distortions occur.
      • Any sign of Confluence elevates to Crisis protocol.

   5. Sealing (“Stitch and Sanctify”) Sigil Magic stitches the seam; divine rites (if available/legal) sanctify afterward. Maintain illumination during sealing and for the following nights.

   6. Aftercare / Quarantine Mark the site as thin for weeks/months. Screen survivors for lingering effects (“rift-lure,” compulsions). Cleanse structures/soil if Hel-taint is suspected; limit night travel until wardlights are permanent.

   Common Warden Tools (RP props)

   • Wardlight lanterns (bright, mirrored, long-burning)
   • Sigil chalk/ink (fast circles and stitch-lines)
   • Pylon plates (etched anchors)
   • Blindfold veils (used near High Elysium rifts to prevent madness from gazing)
   • Ear-cords (charms to reduce auditory hallucination susceptibility)

   Red Flags (escalate immediately)

   • Multiple Seep events in one night (Confluence risk)
   • Hallucinations spreading beyond the light ring
   • Rushing-water sound “calling” specific people by name
   • A rift that seems to “answer” speech/prayer aloud

   ---

Public Superstitions & Folk Practices (Common Across Terrus)

These are not always effective, but they are culturally widespread—especially among common folk who may never see a Rift Warden in their lifetime.

   General folk rules

   • “Keep the night bright.” Villages hang extra lanterns on rift-uneasy nights and keep hearths burning.
   • “Don’t speak your true name near a rift.” People use nicknames, titles, or family names only—fearful the tear “learns” you.
   • “Don’t stare into it.” Even skeptics look away; parents cover children’s eyes.

   Hel-rift folk practices

   • Salt lines on thresholds and windows (to “keep the dead from tracking you home”).
   • Iron nails in doorframes (ward + prayer).
   • Bells at the eaves to confuse “hungry spirits” and wake sleepers.
   • Mirror-cloth: covering mirrors at night so the dead can’t “borrow your face.”

   High Elysium-rift folk practices

   • Water bowls beneath windows (to “match the sound” and keep it gentle).
   • White cloth and clean hands before approaching, like visiting a shrine.
   • No bloodshed nearby—fights broken up fast, fearing backlash.
   • Peach-wood charms carried as comfort (linked by tradition to the Heart-Fruit Tree).

   Social consequences

   • Homes suspected of “inviting rifts” may be shunned.
   • Hel-rift survivors are pitied, feared, or blamed.
   • High Elysium survivors may be revered—until someone remembers Nurahar and steps back.

   ---

Rift‑Lure (Obsessive Pull of the Seam)

Rift‑Lure is the name given to the psychological/spiritual fixation that sometimes follows rift exposure—most famously after High Elysium contact, though Hel rifts can cause their own compulsions.

   Common signs:

   • compulsive return to the rift site, especially at night
   • insomnia paired with the certainty of “being called”
   • hearing rushing water (Elysium) or whispered dead (Hel) long after the event
   • fixation on purity, confession, cleansing, or “becoming worthy” (Elysium-leaning)
   • paranoia, rage, self-harm impulses, or “I must join them” thinking (Hel-leaning)

   How communities treat it:

   • Some temples treat Rift‑Lure as a spiritual illness requiring wardlight, prayer, rest, and supervised isolation.
   • Some authorities treat it as security risk (cult susceptibility, contamination).
   • In Nurahar, after the High Elysium Crisis, Rift‑Lure is feared as proof that even grace can break a mortal mind.

Warden note: Rift‑Lure is not cured by willpower alone. The standard response is light, distance, supervised recovery, and strict prevention of repeat exposure.

5. #5Nations: United Kingdom of Albenheim

Keys: Albenish, Alben crown, Llynwood, Glenmuir, Albenheim, Westryn Marches, United Kingdom of Albenheim, Aelwic, Crownlands

   Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

   United Kingdom of Albenheim

Inspiration: British monarchy + parliamentary culture, with strong regional identities analogous to Scotland (Dwarves) and Wales (Dragonkin), and a deep “green country” tradition (Wood Elves). Humans are common everywhere and tend to adopt local accents and naming customs.

   ---

   National Tone

Albenheim is proud, old, and obsessively institutional: crowns, courts, charters, guild compacts, grove-oaths. “United Kingdom” is not a slogan—it’s a continuous negotiation between peoples who refuse to be flattened into one culture. Manners are a weapon, precedent is a shield, and patriotism often sounds like polite disagreement.

   ---

   Capital: Aelwic-on-the-Lake (“Aelwic”)

Aelwic is built on a broad island landmass in the middle of a massive freshwater lake. The city is heavily walled, with four great bridges linking it to the surrounding Crownlands like spokes to a hub. In fog or rain the bridges can look like they’re floating into nothing—locals treat that view as romantic; generals treat it as a tactical nightmare.

   The Four Bridges (common names):

   • Northbridge (to the uplands and holds)
   • Eastbridge (to the greener farmlands and trade roads)
   • Southbridge (to older towns, temples, and pilgrim routes)
   • Westbridge (to marches, musters, and banner-houses)

City vibe: courtly aboveground—white stone, oak halls, slate roofs—and intensely practical beneath: dwarven underworks, vault-roads, drainage, storehouses, and sealed civic tunnels. Aelwic is a capital that expects siege, flood, intrigue, and winter, and is built to outlast all four.

Common Aelwic accent (prestige): crisp and measured; sarcasm sharpened to needlepoint; public emotion controlled. Capital human names (examples): Edmund Harrowmere, Lydia Ashdown, Tobias Wrenford, Alice Kells High-elf court names (examples): Aelthiran Caerwyn, Seralyth Wynne, Ithriel Dawnspear

   ---

The Three Regions Surrounding the Capital (The Crownlands)

   1) The Glenmuir Holds (Dwarven Uplands & Highland Valleys)

Inspiration feel: Scottish-coded highlands through dwarven clan-and-craft culture. Landscape: granite ridges, misted glens, fast rivers, deep mines, heathered slopes, stone bridges older than the current dynasty. Culture: clan loyalty and guild contracts coexist—often uneasily. A dwarf may be bound to blood, craft-oath, and crown in that order (and will argue the order loudly). Hospitality is strict: you feed a traveler because leaving them to the elements is shameful, not sentimental. Accents: rolling R’s, blunt cadence; humans here pick it up quickly. Naming feel:

   • Dwarves: Bryn Stonebraid, Morag Ironkettle, Ewan Deepdelve, Tamsin Copperwake
   • Humans (regional): Rowan MacCrae, Isla Dunlay, Callum Kerr, Mairi Hallowford Exports & strengths: steel, stonework, engineers, siegecraft, road-and-bridge mastery, sigil-etched civic works. Common tensions: crown taxes vs hold autonomy; mine disasters that aren’t accidents; old sealed doors in the deep that guilds want opened and clans want left alone.

   ---

   2) The Westryn Marches (Dragonkin Bannerlands & Border Counties)

Inspiration feel: Welsh marcher/border tradition—oaths, forts, and proud houses—filtered through dragonkin culture. Landscape: wind-scoured hills, moorland, old watchtowers, fortified market towns, standing stones used as muster points. Culture: “marcher law” is plain: duty, rank, and consequence. Dragonkin banner-houses treat frontier service as sacred inheritance. Songs are older than paperwork; grudges older than songs. Accents: hard consonants, formal titles used casually, military rhythm. Naming feel:

   • Dragonkin: Rhoswen Emberward, Maeric Ashscale, Eluned Flintwing, Garran Wyrmholt
   • Humans (regional): Dafydd Hale, Sian Calder, Iwan Pryce, Elin Morcant Exports & strengths: cavalry, disciplined officers, fortified roads, monster-bounties, border wardens. Common tensions: feuds between houses; accusations of “softness” from the capital; rift-sightings on the moors that challenge the anti-superstition bravado.

   ---

   3) The Verdancy of Llynwood (Wood-Elf Green Country & Orchard Shires)

Inspiration feel: the “green heart” of a kingdom—pastoral, ancient, and quietly stubborn. Landscape: managed forests, sacred pools (llyns), hedgerow farmland, hidden canopy roads, villages that look grown rather than built. Culture: pacts and seasons matter. Llynwood respects the crown, but not at the expense of old grove-oaths. People here can be welcoming—if you don’t demand they become someone else. Accents: softer lilt, older idioms; wood-elf speech can feel like it’s deliberately leaving things unsaid. Naming feel:

   • Wood Elves: Briallen Fernweave, Caelan Mossward, Nerys Rowanbloom, Talan Birchward
   • Humans (regional): Eira Rowanthorne, Gwen Maddox, Rhys Fenwick, Lowri Ashfield Exports & strengths: medicines, dyes, bowyers, timber under strict quotas, herbalists, wardens who know the land like a second skin. Common tensions: court “standardization” efforts; poachers protected by money; a grove going quiet; strange Feywyld-like patterns appearing in roots and dreams.

   ---

   How Humans “fit” in Albenheim

Humans are everywhere—farmers, clerks, sailors, soldiers, craftsmen—and they tend to assimilate regionally:

   • Aelwic humans sound polished, name children for saints and old kings, and learn to survive politics.
   • Glenmuir humans adopt clan manners, blunt speech, and practical piety.
   • Marcher humans grow up under banners and oaths, quick to formal address.
   • Llynwood humans learn which paths not to take at dusk and how to speak to elders without prying.

   Overview

Al’Doriah is a theocratic monarchy that believes—without hesitation—that it was founded to be the world’s cleansing flame: a kingdom where law, crown, and salvation are braided into one rope. It is a land of bright stone cities, bannered cavalry, public charity, and private fear. To outsiders it can look like devotion; to those inside it often feels like being constantly measured.

Al’Doriah does not think of itself as cruel. It thinks of itself as responsible for souls.

   ---

   Identity & Core Ideals

Al’Doriah’s culture is built around three pillars:

   1. Purity of Doctrine — belief must be correct, not merely sincere.
   2. Chivalric Oath — vows are sacred technology; an oath broken is a crack in reality.
   3. Unity of the Faithful — dissent is framed as spiritual contagion.

Public life is filled with hymns, processions, saint-days, and relic festivals. The kingdom’s beauty is real—and so is its certainty.

   ---

   Peoples, Language, Accents, Naming

Peoples: Humans are most visible in governance and military life; many other folk live within the realm, but citizenship is defined by faith compliance, not ancestry.

Speech: Dorian speech tends toward formality. Even ordinary people speak as though someone important might be listening—because often, someone is.

   Naming feel (examples):

   • Capital/Court humans: Catalina Valdor, Mateo Serrin, Inés Carroway, Alaric Montfayne
   • Provincial humans: Tomás Bravaro, Elia Santh, Lucero Venn, Gaspar Revas
   • Clerical names/titles: Sister Mariel of the Lamp, Confessor Rellan, Canon Ysabet, Prior Hadrien

(Names vary by region; coastal areas are more cosmopolitan, interior regions more traditional.)

   ---

Crown & Government: The Divine Bloodline

Al’Doriah is ruled by a hereditary monarch whose legitimacy rests on the doctrine of a Divine Bloodline. The royal house is believed to carry sanctified ancestry—proof that the heavens chose their line as the lawful vessel of rule.

   Implications:

   • Succession disputes become theological warfare: rival claimants accuse each other of tainted blood, substitution, hidden bastardy, or spiritual corruption.
   • The state maintains extensive genealogical archives—treated with near-scriptural reverence.
   • The Church constrains the crown through ritual and law, but cannot “elect” a ruler without threatening the kingdom’s foundational belief.

   Common styles/titles (use as needed):

   • The Blood-Crowned King/Queen
   • Sovereign of the Divine Line
   • Heir of the Vessel (tied to coronation relic tradition)

   ---

The Church & The State (one machine)

Al’Doriah’s Church is not adjacent to the government—it is the nervous system of the government.

   Key organs of power:

   • The High Synod: senior clergy who interpret doctrine, direct policy, and decide which questions may be asked publicly.
   • Cathedral Courts: regional spiritual courts handling crimes of doctrine, public morality, unlawful miracles, and “threats to unity.”
   • The Office of Sacred Inquiry: the investigatory arm charged with rooting out heresy, corruption, forbidden rites, and unsanctioned divine claims.

The people do not call it “inquisition” in polite company. They call it Inquiry, Mercy, Correction, or Protection—depending on whether they’re confident or afraid.

   ---

   Divine Magic: State-Licensed

In Al’Doriah, divine power is treated like a controlled substance and a sacred weapon.

Law: Only those licensed by the Dorian Church may legally perform public acts of divine magic (healing, blessings, exorcisms, sanctification rites, public sermons with miraculous display, etc.).

Proof of license: a Seal-Writ and visible token—often a stamped badge, sigil mark, or candle-seal carried on the person.

The Visiting Cleric Problem (setting feature)

Foreign clerics and miracle-workers routinely face:

   • interrogation at borders and city gates
   • forced re-licensing exams
   • assigned “sponsors” who supervise their movements
   • strict limits (“heal only in hospices,” “no exorcisms,” “no public rites”)
   • punishment for “emergency miracles” performed without authorization

This creates a shadow economy of forged permits, smuggled healers, and quiet sympathizers inside Dorian charities who hate the law but fear the consequences.

   ---

   Capital: Calderis Sanctum

The holy capital is a city of pale stone and red-gold banners, built for procession and control. It sits around a cathedral-fortress complex that dominates the skyline and the psyche.

   Landmarks:

   • The Sanctum Basilica: seat of the High Synod; relic vaults beneath.
   • Hall of Vows: knightly swearing chamber, royal audiences, treaty-binding rites.
   • The Candle Courts: tribunals where doctrine becomes verdict.
   • The Pilgrims’ Quarter: hospices, soup lines, shrines, confession booths, and discreet informants disguised as helpers.

Capital mood: radiant, orderly, watched. Capital accent: formal, precise, “clean” speech prized; public emotion restrained.

   ---

The Three Regions Surrounding the Capital (The Sanctified Ring)

   1) The Sun-Crowned Heartlands (Breadbasket & Bloodline Estates)

Vibe: vineyards, wheat seas, tiled-roof towns, roadside shrines, summer dust and bells. Power base: landed nobles who intermarry under Church scrutiny; cathedral tithe networks. Culture: generous festivals and public charity—alongside tight social control and a long memory for scandal. Common conflicts: hidden heresies in rural chapels, forbidden romances, noble disputes framed as “questions of purity.”

Place-name feel: Valcera, Santerre Fields, Liria, Goldmere

   ---

   2) The Reliquary March (Fortresses & Knightly Orders)

Vibe: castle chains, watch monasteries, beacon towers, disciplined patrol roads. Power base: holy knightly orders whose Grandmasters can rival dukes. Culture: oath-first living; honor is real, but mercy is conditional. Miracles are expected—yet tightly audited. Common conflicts: relic disputes, “miracle claims” used to justify land seizures, border wars reframed as holy necessity.

   Orders (examples):

   • Order of the Argent Vow (paladins/knights, crown-aligned)
   • Order of the Shrouded Lamp (investigators, inquisitorial escorts)
   • Order of the Thorned Chalice (battle-healers, penitent warriors)

Place-name feel: Argent Bastion, Lampwatch, Thornmere Keep, Caer-Vigil

   ---

   3) The Penitent Coast (Ports, Pilgrims, Controlled Trade)

Vibe: salt wind, fortress-lighthouses, shipyards, crowded docks under constant bells. Power base: merchant houses licensed by Church charters; navy captains who sail “under blessing.” Culture: the most cosmopolitan region—and therefore the most policed. Foreign ideas are treated like pests: inspected, taxed, and burned if necessary. Common conflicts: smuggling forbidden texts/relics, sailor cults, confession-sweeps that cause disappearances, bribed license clerks.

Place-name feel: Port Candela, Seawatch Sanctum, Miradore, Velluna

   ---

Knights, Legend, and Sacred Romance (the “Arthurian” texture, in-world)

Al’Doriah cultivates a national mythos of saint-kings and vow-bound champions. These tales are taught as moral instruction and used as political glue. Knights travel on “errantry” under Church writs, sent to recover relics, suppress heresies, or “resolve injustices” that conveniently align with state interest.

   Common cultural motifs:

   • Vowblades: swords whose worth is measured by the oath sworn upon them.
   • The Vessel Relic (Grail-Crown tradition): coronation rites tied to a sacred cup/urn/diadem said to mediate divine favor.
   • Round Chapters: councils of knight-commanders presented as equal, though politics decides otherwise.
   • White Hart Omens: interpreted as divine favor—or divine test—depending on who benefits.

   ---

Foreign Policy Notes (especially the Feywylds)

Al’Doriah has repeatedly funded pilgrim colonies to the Feywylds, framing them as hallowing missions or sacred frontiers. Many vanish. The official story becomes martyrdom, trial, or “unknown sin.” Privately, some Dorian officials fear the Feywylds is a will that cannot be baptized.

   ---

Roleplay Notes (how Al’Doriah “feels” at the table)

   • Blessings replace compliments; concern replaces insults.
   • People ask about your confessor the way others ask about family.
   • Authority rarely threatens directly; it “guides,” “protects,” and “corrects.”
   • Even kindness can feel like a leash—because in Al’Doriah, mercy is often conditional on obedience.

   Ruler Style & Titles

   • Formal style: The Blood-Crowned Sovereign of the Divine Line
   • Common address: Your Grace, Your Holiness of Crown (used by zealots), Your Majesty
   • Heir: Heir of the Vessel / Anointed Heir

   Government in 6 Words

Crown by blood; law by doctrine.

   Major Institutions (fast list)

   • High Synod (senior clergy; doctrine + policy)
   • Cathedral Courts (religious tribunals)
   • Office of Sacred Inquiry (inquisitorial investigators/enforcers)
   • Licensed Clergy Registry (permits for divine magic)
   • Knightly Orders (semi-autonomous military arms)

   Military/Orders (useable terms)

   • Sanctified Knights (generic term for holy cavalry)
   • Order of the Argent Vow (crown-forward paladins/knights)
   • Order of the Shrouded Lamp (investigators, escorts, “quiet work”)
   • Order of the Thorned Chalice (battle-healers, penitent fighters)
   • Cathedral Guard (capital garrison; doubles as moral police)

Laws & Taboos (the ones that matter in RP)

   • Divine magic is state-licensed. Foreign clerics must register or risk arrest.
   • Public heresy is treated as infection (speech, books, symbols, unsanctioned rites).
   • Relic fraud is a high crime (often punished harsher than theft).
   • Oathbreaking is both sin and legal offense; social ruin is common.

   How NPCs talk (speech habits)

   • They speak as if overheard; phrasing is careful.
   • They frame authority as care: “for your safety,” “for the health of your soul.”
   • Insults come disguised as concern.

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

   • “By the Vessel and the Blood.”
   • “Saints keep you.”
   • “Mind your tongue—ink remembers.” (re: records/tribunals)
   • “The Lamp sees.” (threat, warning, or comfort depending on tone)
   • “May your sins burn clean.” (blessing that can sound like a curse)

   Typical Adventure Hooks

   • A foreign cleric arrested after an emergency healing
   • A forged Seal-Writ ring inside a hospice network
   • A “miracle” that smells like demonic influence—or politics
   • A relic dispute that could topple a duke
   • A pilgrim colony’s last message returning from the Feywylds

   Overview

The Great Empire of T’visplace is a proud, regimented imperial power whose identity is forged from discipline, tradition, and craft. T’visplace believes a nation should be built the way a master blade is built: heat, patience, law, and the refusal to accept “good enough.”

Across Terrus, it is famous for two cultural pillars spoken of with equal reverence: its sword craftsmenship and its lagers—clean, precise beers treated as heritage and civic pride, not mere drink.

Core peoples: Drow and High Elves are most prominent; humans and other peoples exist throughout the empire and often adopt its manners quickly (or find prestige closed to them if they do not).

T’visplace is orderly without being joyless. It loves uniforms, ceremonies, parades, and clear hierarchy, but it also celebrates hard work loudly—festivals, taverns, and public toasts that can turn into politics by morning.

Where Albenheim leans toward compromise and Al’Doriah toward sacred certainty, T’visplace leans toward structured excellence: duty, mastery, and earned honor.

   ---

   Language, Accents, Naming

Speech: clipped consonants, confident cadence, a habit of speaking in definitives. Compliments are direct; criticism is blunt but often framed as “improvement.”

   Naming feel (examples):

   • High Elf: Adelvar Hohenwynn, Liese von Caerholt, Othmar Silverspire
   • Drow: Vespera Nachtmark, Kael Dornheim, Isolde Umbravolk
   • Humans in T’visplace: Lukas Brandt, Marta Weissel, Ansel Krieger, Greta Falken

   ---

   Capital: Kaisermark

Kaisermark is a stone-and-iron capital built to display civic discipline. Broad parade avenues end in monumental squares; the forges are never truly silent; even gardens feel intentional, trimmed like ideology.

   Landmarks:

   • Imperial Diet Hall: nobles, generals, and guild-masters bargain under the Emperor’s authority.
   • Grand Arsenal-Forges: state-run forges producing standardized arms, elite blades, and ceremonial weapons.
   • Lagerhalls: massive breweries and tasting halls where alliances are toasted into being.
   • The Duellplatz: regulated dueling grounds designed to keep “honor disputes” from becoming street war.

   ---

The Three Heart Provinces (Core Ring around Kaisermark)

   1) Hohenstahl (The High Steel Province)

Vibe: alpine ridges, fortified passes, mining towns under banners, cold rivers powering mills. Identity: steel is citizenship. Children learn famous blade names like other nations learn saints. Exports: ore, ingots, armor plate, master smiths, weapon blanks. Common conflicts: guild sabotage, stolen techniques, cursed ore from rift-scarred mines, labor disputes that become political.

   ---

   2) Biermark (The Brewing Province)

Vibe: river valleys, orderly farms, huge public festivals, brewery towns that smell of yeast and pride. Identity: lager is craft-law—recipes guarded, purity standards enforced, apprenticeships formal. Exports: lagers, grain, glass, casks, tavern culture. Common conflicts: poisoned barrels, black-market brews, rival houses feuding through “accidental” shortages, festival nights interrupted by rift events no one wants to admit.

   ---

   3) Klingenwald (The Blade-Wood March)

Vibe: dark managed forests, hunter lodges, dueling schools, border forts tucked into tree-lines. Identity: the empire’s romantic face—songs, duels, blade etiquette—still bound by regulation and rank. Exports: hardwood for grips and scabbards, hunting companies, dueling masters, disciplined scouts. Common conflicts: monsters in timberlines, dueling schools producing assassins, creeping Feywyld-like growth patterns in “managed” groves.

   ---

   Military & Society

T’visplace is prestige-driven and professionalized. Service and mastery grant status; incompetence is a social sin.

   Common forces/roles:

   • Imperial Legions: disciplined professional core.
   • Steelwardens: elite heavy infantry / imperial guard formations.
   • Banner Companies: provincial regiments with local pride.
   • Arsenal Clerks: logistics and procurement officials—quietly powerful, feared by officers.

   ---

Craft as Identity (Swordsmanship & Smithing)

T’visplacian swordcraft is legendary because it is institutional:

   • techniques preserved in guild archives
   • apprenticeships long and strict
   • “blade lineage” matters (master → apprentice → forge)
   • ceremonial swords are political statements

A good blade is expected to be balanced, honest, consistent—the same virtues the empire praises in citizens.

   ---

   Lager Culture (Why it matters)

Lager is social glue and civic ritual:

   • contracts and treaties are toasted publicly
   • promotions and honors are celebrated with communal pours
   • insulting a house brew can spark feuds like insulting a bloodline

   ---

   • Forge-theft (stealing techniques, patterns, master-marks) is a high crime.
   • Counterfeit brew is socially despised and can be legally punished if tied to fraud.
   • Public incompetence—especially by officials—invites ridicule and political removal.

   • “By steel and standard.”
   • “On my master-mark.”
   • “Let the ledger prove it.” (contract/oath)
   • “Clean as lager, true as steel.” (praise)
   • “To the forge—and what it makes of us.” (toast)
   • “May your edge hold.” (blessing)

   Social Habits (dialogue flavor)

   • Praise is earned, not given freely.
   • People love titles and correct forms of address.
   • Many conflicts are routed into “civilized” channels: duels, contracts, guild arbitration, official challenges.

   Typical Adventure Hooks

   • A master smith disappears with a state pattern
   • A noble house sabotages a rival brewery before festival week
   • A dueling school’s graduates are found employed as assassins
   • Rift-scarred ore produces blades that “remember” Hel hallucinations
   • The Diet hires outsiders to do dirty work it can’t admit exists

   Overview

The Shogunate of Gyohira is a disciplined feudal realm built on oath, hierarchy, and martial excellence. It is coastal and martial by nature—fort towns, bannered keeps, salt-wet training yards—where a person’s word is treated as binding metal.

Core peoples: Orcs, Crabfolk, Fishfolk (with humans and other races present as traders, hostages, mercenaries, or rare immigrants). Defining trait: Gyohira culturally rejects magic. This is not ignorance; it is doctrine. Magic is viewed as unstable, corrupting, dishonorable, or socially destabilizing compared to mastery of steel, body, and oath.

Gyohira can feel noble, harsh, and breathtakingly beautiful—until you remember how quickly it will cut away what it considers weakness.

   ---

   National Tone

Gyohira is ritualized discipline. Respect is performed as much as felt. Violence is controlled through codes, duels, formal challenges, and strict punishments for disorder.

People do not say “I think.” They say “It is so,” or “I will prove it.” Mercy exists, but it is framed as strength choosing restraint, not softness.

   ---

   Speech, Accents, Naming

Speech: concise, honor-coded, heavy use of titles; insults are often indirect but lethal (“Your household is… undisciplined.”).

   Naming feel (examples):

   • Orc (clan-based): Hakarō of Clan Shiohane, Matsu “Iron-Jaw,” Renji Kurogai
   • Crabfolk: Karkuun Shellbinder, Lady Rakka of the Tide-Spear, Juzu Graniteclaw
   • Fishfolk: Sui of the Deep Current, Haru Rippleborn, Kaito Netmaster
   • Humans in Gyohira: Hana Mori, Taro Sengen, Emi Kasai, Jun Ishida

(Names vary by coast vs inland keeps; “of Clan ___” and earned epithets are common.)

   ---

   Government & Feudal Structure

Shogunate: the Shogun is the military head and practical ruler; legitimacy is enforced through oaths, hostages, and the balance of clan power.

   Typical hierarchy:

   • Shogun (supreme commander)
   • Great Houses / Clans (daimyo-like warlords)
   • Retainers (sworn warriors, officers, household guards)
   • Common levies (trained militia; surprisingly disciplined)
   • Ronin (masterless warriors; respected or despised depending on context)

Law: “Harmony through hierarchy.” Public disorder is punished harshly—because chaos is treated as the seedbed of collapse.

   ---

The No-Magic Doctrine (central cultural rule)

Gyohira rejects magic socially and legally. Many regions treat spellcasting as:

   • contraband behavior
   • a violation of honor
   • a threat to the stability of the realm

This doesn’t mean Gyohira never uses magic—only that when it appears, it is hidden, denied, or handled as a shameful necessity.

   Common outcomes for discovered mages:

   • exile
   • forced service under strict supervision
   • imprisonment
   • execution (rare but real, especially after rift events)

Foreign mages are watched closely. A “helpful spell” can be seen as an insult—implying Gyohira cannot solve its own problems with discipline.

   ---

   Capital: Shiozakura

A fortress-capital near the sea, built around layered walls and ceremonial courtyards. Training yards are as common as temples. The city’s harbor is a military asset first and a marketplace second.

   Landmarks:

   • The Shogun’s Citadel: administrative heart and oath chamber.
   • The Tide-Gate: enormous fortified harbor gate system.
   • The Hall of Blades: registry of duels, lineages, and honored weapons.
   • The Silent Yard: a place for punishment, penance, and “quiet resolutions.”

   ---

The Three Core Regions (around Shiozakura)

   1) The Salt Marches (Fort Coast & Naval Houses)

Vibe: sea forts, lighthouse beacons, shipyards, rocky cliffs, constant wind. Power base: naval clans, Crabfolk captains, coastal Orc houses. Culture: practical honor—your oath means nothing if you can’t keep the harbor safe. Common conflicts: piracy, foreign infiltration, rifts opening offshore at night and washing horrors onto beaches.

   ---

   2) The Iron Highlands (Warrior Keeps & Orc Strongholds)

Vibe: cold hills, stone keeps, harsh training grounds, sparse villages protected by veteran soldiery. Power base: traditional Orc houses and their retainer schools. Culture: endurance, stoicism, strict hierarchy; “discipline is kindness.” Common conflicts: succession feuds between houses, ronin bands, secret magic users hunted by rivals.

   ---

   3) The Pearl Rivers (Fishfolk Channels & Rice Towns)

Vibe: rivers, canals, wetlands, stilt towns, shimmering night markets, shrine-barges. Power base: Fishfolk guild families, river wardens, trade inspectors. Culture: quieter, more communal, still rigid—rules are enforced through shame and ceremony rather than open violence. Common conflicts: smuggling, famine politics, “river spirits” that may actually be rift phenomena.

   ---

   Relationship to Rifts

Gyohira’s anti-magic doctrine creates a dangerous contradiction: rifts are magical crises, and Gyohira culturally refuses the tools most suited to address them.

   Common Gyohiran response:

   • flood the night with lanterns and beacon lines (prevention)
   • martial containment (cordons, evacuations, patrol discipline)
   • denial and censorship if the event threatens social cohesion
   • grudging “outsider assistance” only when unavoidable, often under guard and oath

   ---

Quick Reference — Shogunate of Gyohira

   Ruler Style & Titles

   • Shogun (supreme commander)
   • Great Lord/Lady (clan heads)
   • Retainer Captain, Blade-Master, Harbor Warden, River Warden

   Government in 6 Words

Honor, hierarchy, and steel over sorcery.

   Major Institutions (fast list)

   • The Oath Registry (records sworn vows, hostages, clan obligations)
   • The Hall of Blades (duel law, weapon lineages, honor rulings)
   • Harbor Wardens (naval security, coastal law)
   • River Wardens (trade channels, famine control)
   • Penance Houses (discipline centers; halfway monastery, halfway prison)

   Laws & Taboos (RP-relevant)

   • Public spellcasting is forbidden (or treated as extreme dishonor even if not explicitly illegal everywhere).
   • Dueling without registry is criminal disorder.
   • Breaking a sworn oath can ruin an entire household.
   • Foreign mages must be declared, supervised, or expelled.

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

   • “On my blade and banner.”
   • “May my name rot if I lie.”
   • “Steel does not flinch.” (encouragement)
   • “Hold your spine.” (stop panicking)
   • “Dishonor is a second death.”

   Dialogue Flavor

   • Short sentences. Title-first address. Emotion kept behind the teeth.
   • Praise is sparse but meaningful: “You held well.”
   • Insults are surgical: “Your discipline is… thin.”

   Typical Adventure Hooks

   • A Rift Crisis begins and the Shogunate refuses to admit it
   • A secret mage serving a Great House is discovered
   • Ronin band hired to protect a village “unofficially”
   • Harbor Wardens find a Hel-tainted relic in a smuggler’s hold
   • A duel ruling becomes a political assassination attempt

   Overview

The Grand Duchy of Lysetoilé is a Drow-led aristocratic monarchy where culture is power and beauty is sharpened into a blade. It is famous for its art, fashion, theater, architecture, and the kind of politics that never needs to shout to be lethal. Lysetoilé is not simply “dark” or “decadent”—it is refined, competitive, and intensely individualistic.

This is also the homeland of Tithis Infernum (the Infernal Tithe), a ruthless monster-hunting institution whose work stains the duchy’s glamour with blood and necessity. Lysetoilé’s most haunting truth is that it can host a masked ball above a street where something undead is being dragged to the fire.

Core peoples: Drow dominate high society; many other peoples live here as artists, merchants, servants, scholars, and foreigners chasing patronage.

   ---

   National Tone

Lysetoilé runs on reputation. Virtue is not only what you are—it’s what can be proven, displayed, and remembered. People speak like they’re writing history in real time, and they treat scandal the way other nations treat plague: something to isolate quickly, or weaponize.

Freedom of self-expression is real here, but it is not gentle. Lysetoilé rewards the bold and beautiful, then punishes them for being seen.

   ---

   Speech, Accents, Naming

Speech: elegant, witty, implication-heavy; insults are delivered as compliments with one word wrong.

   Naming feel (examples):

   • Drow nobles: Vicomtesse Sable Noctevane, Duke Auvren Lysencourt, Marquise Eira Valmourne
   • Drow commoners/urban: Silas Nox, Mirelle Vane, Corin Duskvale
   • Humans in Lysetoilé: Celeste Marrow, Julien Harrow, Elodie Crest, Marc Renne
   • Stage names (common): Velvet Nyx, The Laughing Wren, Moonknife, Saint-Devil

(Names vary by district; noble houses often use long titles, common folk shorten everything.)

   ---

   Government & Social Order

Government: aristocratic monarchy—Duke/Duchess at the top, upheld by noble houses, salons, and patronage networks.

How power works (the Lysetoilé way):

   • Noble Houses control land, courts, and legal outcomes.
   • Salons control culture, rumor, and social legitimacy.
   • Patrons control art, careers, and survival for the talented poor.
   • Duels function as “regulated violence” to settle disputes while preserving the illusion of civility.
   • Tithis Infernum functions as a parallel authority when supernatural threats emerge.

Lysetoilé is where a person can be ruined without being arrested.

   ---

   Capital: Vespera Lys

A city of candlelight and stone, built in terraces that glow at night like constellations fallen onto a hillside. The streets are narrow where gossip must travel and wide where processions must be seen. Bridges arch like ribs over black canals.

   Landmarks:

   • The Velvet Court: ducal palace complex; art galleries, audience chambers, and quiet rooms where fates are decided.
   • The Lantern Opera: a theater so prestigious it can start wars with a single satire.
   • The Mirror District: fashion houses, jewelers, portraitists, and discreet poisoners.
   • The Infernal Hall: Tithis Infernum headquarters—plain, functional, and always guarded.

   ---

The Three Core Regions (around Vespera Lys)

   1) The Velvet Courts (Noble Estates & Salon Cities)

Vibe: manicured gardens, marble, silk, private libraries, summer villas with winter secrets. Culture: patronage, elegance, reputation warfare. Conflicts: inheritance schemes, blackmail rings, forbidden romances, “legal assassinations” via duels and scandal.

   ---

   2) The Gloam Cantons (Border towns, hunters, and haunted roads)

Vibe: foggy roads, old stone chapels, half-abandoned manors, villages that lock doors early. Culture: practical superstition; people here respect beauty but fear what it can hide. Conflicts: vampire nests, ghoul packs, cursed bloodlines, missing travelers—often handled by the Infernal Tithe.

   ---

   3) The Sable Coast (Ports, masked revels, and dangerous trade)

Vibe: black-sand beaches, moonlit docks, wine houses, cosmopolitan markets, smugglers who dress well. Culture: indulgent and worldly; the easiest place to disappear or reinvent yourself. Conflicts: contraband relics, undead cargo, cult money, and bargains made at sea that come back wrong.

   ---

Tithis Infernum (The Infernal Tithe) — Lysetoilé’s Shadow Institution

Based in Lysetoilé, Tithis Infernum hunts supernatural threats: vampires, werewolves, ghouls, undead, and corruption.

Motto: “One life for a thousand more.” Structure: Infernals (council), Bloodbound (elite), Purifiers (clerics/healers), Huntsmen (operatives). They are feared and revered—because their work is necessary, and because they often value the mission over collateral damage.

In Lysetoilé, the richest nobles attend galas; the most necessary people burn bodies behind shuttered doors.

   ---

   Roleplay Notes (Lysetoilé flavor)

   • People rarely say “no.” They say “How interesting,” and destroy you later.
   • Compliments can be traps. Sympathy can be a test.
   • Art is political speech. Fashion is rank. A portrait can be an act of war.

   ---

Quick Reference — Grand Duchy Lysetoilé

   Ruler Style & Titles

   • Duke/Duchess of Lysetoilé (the “Grand” title often used ceremonially)
   • Marquis/Marquise, Count/Countess, Vicomte/Vicomtesse
   • Patron/Patroness (social power title)
   • Salonmaster/Salonmistress (unofficial, very real authority)

   Government in 6 Words

Beauty, rumor, and blood under velvet.

   Major Institutions (fast list)

   • Velvet Court (ducal authority)
   • House Councils (noble blocs)
   • Dueling Registry (legal violence; honor courts)
   • The Salon Circuit (soft power network)
   • Tithis Infernum (supernatural enforcement)

   Laws & Taboos (RP-relevant)

   • Public vulgarity is punished socially (worse than fines).
   • Insulting a noble house’s honor can force a duel—or a quieter punishment.
   • Smuggling relics/undead remains is common, and harshly punished when it becomes public.
   • Tithis Infernum is tolerated even when feared; obstructing them during a hunt is treated as suicidal.

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

   • “By velvet and vow.”
   • “May your mask fit.” (blessing / insult depending on tone)
   • “Careful—mirrors remember.”
   • “One life for a thousand more.” (Tithis phrase; spoken with grim respect)
   • “Don’t bleed on the marble.” (meaning: keep it discreet)

   Dialogue Flavor

   • Fast wit, layered meaning, smiling cruelty.
   • People name-drop constantly (artists, houses, duels, scandals).
   • Emotion is performed—even sincerity has choreography.

   Typical Adventure Hooks

   • A noble patron hires the party to “fix” a scandal (quietly)
   • A masked gala is targeted by a Hel-tainted undead plot
   • A Bloodbound hunter needs outsiders for a hunt in the Gloam Cantons
   • A portrait is cursed; everyone who looks too long falls into Rift‑Lure-like obsession
   • A dueling verdict is being used to legally execute an innocent rival

    Overview

The United Union of Cheltice is a swamp-born confederation of merchant guilds where contracts, cargo, and leverage matter more than crowns. It is humid, river-choked, and politically fragmented—yet frighteningly effective at moving goods, hiding bodies, and turning anything into profit.

Cheltice’s reputation is stained by its deep entanglement with the Minotaur (Topkha) Slave Trade, much of it routed, financed, laundered, or quietly “legalized” through guild paperwork and port officials who know exactly what they’re doing.

Yet Cheltice is not only rot and greed. It’s also the loudest, strangest celebration culture on Terrus: bright paint on wet wood, music over fog, joy sharpened into defiance—because in the swamp, you either laugh or sink.

    ---

    National Tone

Cheltice feels like bargaining with a smile. Everyone’s friendly, everyone’s busy, everyone’s listening. The Union prides itself on being “practical,” but the practical in Cheltice often means morally flexible.

It’s a place where a starving village can be saved by a single barge of grain—provided someone signs the right contract. It’s also a place where a person can vanish into the reeds and become a rumor before sunrise.

    ---

    Speech, Accents, Naming

Speech: quick, personable, full of slang and deal-language; people speak in “soft threats” and jokes that carry receipts.

    Naming feel (examples):

    • Guild-court humans: Maren Vell, Tobias Quill, Selene Dockwright, Edmund Brine
    • Swamp-town humans: Jory Reed, Nell Fenner, Bram Mudlow, Tessa Marsh
    • Mixed-race common names: Kett, Rook, Mina, Sable, Puck (nicknames used as shields)

Cheltice naming is practical: short names travel better, and a good nickname hides you from creditors.

    ---

    Government & Power Structure

Government: a confederation of merchant guilds. “Union law” is a patchwork of charters, shipping codes, and arbitration courts.

    How power works:

    • Guild Seats control policy via votes purchased with coin, favors, and blackmail.
    • Barge Houses (shipping dynasties) control movement and supply.
    • Canal Wardens enforce tolls, “safety,” and disappearances.
    • Arbiters settle disputes; bribery is officially illegal and culturally assumed.
    • Private crews (mercenaries, adventurers, “dock security”) do what paperwork can’t.

In Cheltice, a signature can be deadlier than a knife—because the knife leaves evidence.

    ---

    Capital: Brackenspire

Brackenspire rises from the swamp on layered stone and timber platforms, stitched together by canals and bridgeways. It smells of spice, tar, riverweed, and money. Lanterns hang everywhere because in Cheltice darkness is not romantic—it’s where teeth live.

    Landmarks:

    • The Union Hall: the guild assembly; a beautiful building where ugly decisions are made politely.
    • The Grand Locks: canal control gates; whoever controls them controls the city.
    • The Ledger Courts: arbitration chambers where truth is whatever can be proven on paper.
    • The Lantern Mile: markets, taverns, and theaters—where you can buy a miracle, a lie, or a map to both.

    ---

The Three Core Regions (around Brackenspire)

    1) The Fenfold Markets (Trade Towns & Floating Bazaars)

Vibe: floating stalls, river barges chained into streets, shouting merchants, bright awnings against grey water. Culture: deal-making as sport; everyone knows ten ways to price the same item. Conflicts: counterfeit goods, stolen manifests, guild sabotage, exotic creatures escaping into canals.

    ---

    2) The Reedlaw Channels (Canal Law & Smuggler Country)

Vibe: narrow waterways, fog, hidden docks, stilt villages, watchtowers that look abandoned until you’re close. Culture: “mind your business” is a survival skill; favors matter more than formal friendship. Conflicts: smuggling wars, Canal Warden corruption, Hel-tainted relics moving through black routes, missing persons swallowed by “paperwork errors.”

    ---

    3) The Mire-Crown Estates (Wealth, plantations, and quiet cruelty)

Vibe: raised manor-islands, private gardens behind mosquito screens, imported marble rotting beautifully, guards in clean boots. Culture: the wealthy pretend Cheltice is civilized and everything else is “unfortunate necessity.” Conflicts: slave-trade laundering, abolitionist infiltration, heirs who want out, bodies buried where the swamp will eat them.

    ---

National Event: The March (Cheltice’s Moving Festival)

Every year, Cheltice enters its strangest season: The March.

What it is: A national trek where every circus in Cheltice—from famous grand caravans to half-legal traveling troupes—begins moving toward Brackenspire. They travel by road, barge, and bridge, gathering performers, animals, musicians, acrobats, illusionists, strongfolk, puppet troupes, and masked comedians along the way.

    Why it matters:

    • It is celebration, pilgrimage, and commerce all at once.
    • The Union uses it as a pressure valve: a time when grudges are postponed, deals are made publicly, and the poor can earn coin.
    • It’s also perfect cover for smuggling, assassination, and disappearing people—because during The March, everyone expects strangers.

What it looks like: Painted wagons on causeways, lantern barges like floating constellations, drumlines echoing over water, and a capital that becomes a single roaring carnival-city.

Common rumor: Some swear that during The March, rifts are more likely to persist (not open—rifts still open at night), because the swamp is full of lights, lies, and restless spirits.

    ---

The Union and the Topkha (Minotaur) Slave Trade

Cheltice is one of the trade’s great engines: shipping routes, auction intermediaries, forged documents, bribed inspectors, and “respectable” fronts. The Union rarely calls it slavery; it calls it debt, punishment, war-spoils, or contract-labor—depending on what sells.

Not everyone in Cheltice supports it. Resistance exists: escaped Topkha communities, dockworkers who “lose” manifests, and guild juniors who hate what they’re inheriting. But the system is rich, and rich systems defend themselves.

    ---

Quick Reference — United Union of Cheltice

    Ruler Style & Titles

Cheltice has no king; power is corporate and civic.

    • Union Speaker (chair of the assembly; often a rotating or contested role)
    • Guildmaster/Guildmistress
    • Arbiter (contract judge)
    • Canal Warden
    • Barge Lord/Lady (shipping dynasties; unofficial but real)

    Government in 6 Words

Coin, contracts, canals—everything has a price.

    Major Institutions (fast list)

    • Union Hall (guild assembly)
    • Ledger Courts (arbitration and legal warfare)
    • Canal Wardens (tolls, patrols, “security”)
    • Barge Houses (shipping control)
    • Circus Charters (The March permits; surprisingly bureaucratic)

    Laws & Taboos (RP-relevant)

    • Crossing a major canal without paying toll invites retaliation.
    • Breaking contract is worse than theft (theft can be forgiven; breach is personal).
    • Speaking too openly about the slave trade gets you watched—or hired—or drowned.
    • During The March, some crimes are “quietly postponed” for appearances, others spike because crowds cover everything.

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

    • “By ink and reed.”
    • “Sign it or swim.”
    • “May the swamp keep your secrets.” (blessing / threat)
    • “On the Ledger.” (serious oath)
    • “Lanterns up.” (meaning: stay visible tonight)

    Dialogue Flavor

    • Friendly, fast-talking, joke-first—knife-second.
    • People quote contracts like scripture.
    • Everyone asks: “What’s the angle?” even when pretending not to.

    Typical Adventure Hooks

    • A circus troupe begs protection during The March—someone is hunting them
    • A Ledger Court case is actually a covert slave auction
    • A Canal Warden hires outsiders to retrieve a “lost” barge (it isn’t lost)
    • A Topkha resistance cell needs forged papers and safe passage
    • A Hel-rift hallucination outbreak hits a floating market the night before the grand carnival event

    Overview

The Sultanate of Nurahar is an educated, diplomatic, and spiritually disciplined realm—best known for being the only major nation on Terrus that does not worship the All-Mother directly. Instead, Nurahar follows Ishvahar: a faith founded by Ishaviel, a former Angel of the All-Mother who taught mortals self-reliance, spiritual rigor, and redemption through discipline.

Nurahar is often described by foreigners as calm, reasonable, and “too principled to survive politics.” Nurahari citizens would argue the opposite: that survival without principle is just a slower form of death.

Core peoples: Civilized Gnolls are central; humans and other peoples live here in trade cities and scholarly communities.

    ---

    National Tone

Nurahar’s public life is orderly but not oppressive: debate is respected, learning is honored, and generosity is treated as civic duty rather than charity-as-performance. The state is proud of being a place where a person can rise by competence, scholarship, and service.

Where Al’Doriah uses faith to unify and police, Nurahar uses faith to train the self—and expects the state to reflect that restraint.

    ---

Religion: The Faith of Ishvahar (Nurahar’s defining identity)

Nurahar’s national faith centers on the Eternal Flame, representing the divine spark within every mortal—something to be nurtured through discipline, not begged into existence.

Founder: Ishaviel, a former Angel of the All-Mother. Nurahar reveres Ishvahar without denying the All-Mother’s reality; the distinction is cultural and theological: Nurahar believes the All-Mother created the world, but Ishvahar teaches how mortals must carry themselves within it.

The Five Pillars of the Flame

    1. Devotion
    2. Charity
    3. Fasting
    4. Pilgrimage
    5. Discipline

Redemption through Fire: sins are “burned away” by penance, self-improvement, and righteous action—not by mere confession.

Symbol: a flame encircled by a ring of stars. Holy site: Temple of the Eternal Flame (in Nurahar), where a sacred fire is kept burning continuously.

    ---

    Speech, Accents, Naming

Speech: measured, respectful, often metaphor-rich (heat, ash, spark, steady flame). People argue politely but intensely.

    Naming feel (examples):

    • Gnolls (common): Safira bint Rakhim, Jamil al‑Sahir, Nura Flameward, Rashad Sablemane
    • Scholars/clerics: Imam-Archivist Haseem, Sister of the Flame Yara, Pilgrim-Master Kadir
    • Humans in Nurahar: Leila Soren, Amir Vance, Samira Elden, Idris Marrow

(Nurahar naming varies by city and tribe; titles tied to learning and pilgrimage are common.)

    ---

    Government & Society

Government: enlightened monarchy (the Sultan/Sultana rules, supported by educated councils, judges, and religious scholars). Nurahar prefers solutions that look like diplomacy, infrastructure, and law—even when it would be easier to draw steel.

    Civic values:

    • education as public good
    • diplomacy as strength
    • discipline as dignity
    • charity as obligation
    • spiritual practice as daily routine, not spectacle

    ---

    Capital: Asharun

Asharun is a warm-stone capital of courtyards, libraries, and flame-lit sanctuaries. Scholars, diplomats, and pilgrims share streets with spice merchants and caravan guards. The city is designed for shade, water, and gathering—places where people can speak seriously without raising their voices.

    Landmarks:

    • Temple of the Eternal Flame: the sacred fire burns without cease; the heart of Ishvahar faith.
    • The Star-Ring Archives: libraries and record halls where history is treated like responsibility.
    • The Pilgrims’ Way: a main avenue lined with hostels, fountains, and shrines for travelers.
    • Hall of Concord: diplomatic chamber where treaties are negotiated with ritual restraint.

    ---

The Three Core Regions (around Asharun)

    1) The Star-Sands (Caravan Routes & Scholarly Oases)

Vibe: deserts and open sky, oasis cities, observatories, caravanserais, disciplined hospitality. Identity: learning and travel—pilgrimage is culturally normal, not exotic. Conflicts: bandit diplomacy, relic theft, rift-seeps in lonely places where night is vast.

    ---

    2) The Ember Courts (Administrative Heart & Noble Houses)

Vibe: civic buildings, judge-halls, trained clerks, formal gardens, controlled luxury. Identity: governance as stewardship; status ideally earned through service (even when blood still matters). Conflicts: corruption framed as “smoke in the flame,” court rivalries, foreign influence buying favors.

    ---

    3) The Hearthlands (River towns, farms, and Topkha memory)

Vibe: fertile river stretches, farming towns, communal kitchens, local shrines with ever-burning lamps. Identity: the moral backbone—where charity is practical and survival is shared. Conflicts: refugee care, famine years, and the long shadow of the Topkha (Minotaur) civil-war origins that began the slave trade in Nurahar’s past.

    ---

Relationship to Rifts (and the Nurahar scar)

Nurahar is historically marked by the High Elysium Rift Crisis that occurred within its borders. It is remembered not only as catastrophe but as warning: holiness can overwhelm mortals.

As a result, Nurahar tends to respond to rifts with:

    • disciplined illumination at night (prevention)
    • careful observation and scholarly classification
    • strict quarantine for survivors showing Rift‑Lure
    • moral debate about when to close even “beneficial” phenomena

Nurahar treats rifts as both arcane threat and spiritual test.

    • Sultan/Sultana of Nurahar
    • Vizier (chief minister / adviser)
    • Qadi (judge)
    • Imam / Flame-Keeper (religious authority; local titles vary)
    • Pilgrim-Master (organizes routes, hostels, protections)

    • Hall of Concord (diplomacy and treaties)
    • Caravan Compacts (trade protection, travel law)
    • Flame Hospices (charity kitchens, healing, shelter)

    Laws & Taboos (RP-relevant)

    • Open cruelty is socially condemned; rulers lose legitimacy by appearing unrestrained.
    • Religious hypocrisy is treated as disgrace (worse than simple sin).
    • Desecrating a flame shrine is taken extremely seriously.
    • Outsiders who mock Ishvahar are corrected firmly, not violently—until they persist.

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

    • “By the Eternal Flame.”
    • “May your spark hold steady.”
    • “Ash proves what fire was.” (meaning: your deeds show your truth)
    • “Walk clean.” (blessing)
    • “Do not feed the smoke.” (don’t indulge corruption/temptation)

    Dialogue Flavor

    • Calm, precise, occasionally poetic.
    • People use “heat/smoke/spark/ash” metaphors naturally.
    • Arguments are structured; emotions are acknowledged but not indulged.

    Typical Adventure Hooks

    • Scholars hire escorts to investigate a night-seep in the Star-Sands
    • A foreign cleric disputes Ishvahar doctrine and causes a diplomatic incident
    • Survivors of a Hel rift seek refuge in a Flame Hospice—bringing trouble behind them
    • A lost record in the Archives could expose the early Topkha civil wars
    • A pilgrim route goes silent—lanterns still burning, travelers gone

    Overview

Calimaarisca is a small coastal city-state with disproportionate influence—rich, strategically placed, culturally magnetic, and arcane-capable. It is governed by four ruling clans (each with its own district and apparatus) under the oversight of Juzonth the Ancient, a benevolent red dragon who liberated the city’s founding tribes from Al’Doriah.

Calimaarisca’s identity is built on freedom, self-reliance, and stubborn civic pride. It welcomes nearly anyone—any race, background, or love—so long as they respect Calimaarisca’s history and do not threaten the hard-won autonomy its people bled for.

    Cultural feel (in-world)

Calimaarisca is sun, salt, bright paint, loud music, sharp political humor, and practical resilience. The city carries a “we survived” attitude—suspicious of empires, allergic to condescension, and fiercely protective of community.

    ---

Rule of the Four Clans (and the Dragon Who Listens)

Calimaarisca is often called “democratic,” but its real structure is civic oligarchy with unusually responsive feedback loops:

    • The people pressure the clans.
    • The clans adjust to the people.
    • Juzonth listens and adjusts to both.

Juzonth is treated like a mayoral figure in daily life—approached with petitions, complaints, and civic requests. Officially, his title is Emperor, but he almost never enforces it, and Calimaariscans tend to treat the title as historical formality rather than hierarchy.

    ---

    Juzonth the Ancient

Juzonth is a red dragon of immense age and power—yet known for restraint, civic affection, and protective governance. His liberation of the early Calimaariscan tribes from Al’Doriah is the city’s foundational myth and documented history.

Calimaariscans do not worship him as a god; they honor him as liberator, guardian, and symbol of the city’s continued independence. Outsiders who assume “dragon ruler = tyranny” often learn quickly that Calimaarisca’s dragon is powerful precisely because he does not need to prove it.

    ---

    The Four Clans (District Powers)

Each clan controls a district, maintains public services, and carries a cultural identity. Three are bloodline clans with inherited family names; the fourth is the Mage Guild (institution-clan).

    1) Warrior Clan — House Cordero

Role: defense, city watch, harbor security, militias, crisis leadership. Vibe: disciplined pride, athletic culture, honor-through-service, fierce loyalty to civilians. Reputation: respected and occasionally feared; they tend to act fast and apologize later.

    2) Trade Clan — House Marisalto

Role: shipping, markets, tariffs, foreign contracts, food security, dock logistics. Vibe: loud commerce, sharper negotiation, “we keep the city fed.” Reputation: charming, relentless; will smile while rewriting your contract.

    3) Bardic Clan — House Ballesta

Role: archives, performance halls, festivals, public messaging, education patronage, cultural diplomacy. Vibe: eccentric brilliance—extravagant fashion, theatrical speech, outrageous parties. Key note: despite their chaos, the Ballesta have never “lost” history. Their documentation is obsessively accurate, cross-referenced, and guarded like treasure. Reputation: beloved and mocked in equal measure; secretly terrifying if you try to falsify a record.

    4) The Mage Guild — Calimaariscan Guild of Magic & Arcane Legislature

Role: regulation of magic, arcane research, Rift Warden deployment, magical law, containment protocols. Origin: the Guild was born from the ashes of an extinct tribe-house that did not escape Al’Doriah’s grasp alive: House Solumbria (long-dead, remembered as martyrs and founders-by-loss). The Guild carries Solumbria’s memory as a mandate: “Never again.”

    ---

    Capital / City Layout

Calimaarisca is the nation: a walled coastal metropolis with distinct clan districts. Streets are engineered to accommodate many body types and peoples—wide stairs, reinforced bridges, mixed-height counters, ramps, multiple door sizes, public bathing spaces with privacy options, and signage in common trade tongues.

    District shorthand:

    • Cordero Ward: barracks, training yards, watchtowers, civic emergency halls.
    • Marisalto Docks: customs houses, markets, warehouses, sailor temples, the loudest streets.
    • Ballesta Quarter: theaters, schools, archives, plazas, cafés, murals, constant music.
    • Guild Precinct: lecture halls, testing chambers, wardlight depots, sealed vaults, Rift Warden staging grounds.

Calimaarisca is a cultural mixing bowl—outsiders become locals fast if they learn the etiquette: respect the liberation story, don’t sneer at the dragon, and don’t treat the city like a toy.

    ---

    The Brineheart Festival (Bi-Annual)

The Brineheart Festival is held twice a year to celebrate:

    • Juzonth’s liberation of the founding tribes
    • the city’s survival and progress despite its violent beginnings
    • civic unity across clan lines

Signature event: Juzonth is paraded through the streets atop a massive ceremonial float, surrounded by music, banners, salt-flower garlands, and theatrical reenactments of the liberation. The parade is joyous and intensely guarded—because the city refuses to let its symbol be threatened.

Brineheart is also when major reforms are announced, debts forgiven, disputes mediated publicly, and new citizens welcomed.

    ---

    Attitudes & Social Norms

Calimaarisca is among the most open-minded places in Terrus regarding race, sexuality, identity, and origin. What matters is conduct:

    • respect the city’s history and freedoms
    • don’t side with would-be conquerors
    • don’t endanger civilians with reckless magic
    • don’t insult the liberation dead

The city has a cultural allergy to imperialism—especially anything that smells like Al’Doriah.

    ---

    Quick Reference — Calimaarisca

    Ruler Style & Titles

    • Juzonth the Ancient — official title: Emperor (rarely enforced; treated like a civic guardian/mayor)
    • Clan Heads (the Four Seats):
      • House Cordero (Warrior Seat)
      • House Marisalto (Trade Seat)
      • House Ballesta (Bardic Seat)
      • Mage Guild / Arcane Legislature (Guild Seat)

    Government in 6 Words

    Major Institutions (fast list)

    • The Four Seats Council (clan governance)
    • Cordero Watch (city defense / law enforcement)
    • Marisalto Customs (trade control)
    • Ballesta Archives (history, education, cultural diplomacy)
    • Arcane Legislature (magic law, Rift Warden command)

    Laws & Taboos (RP-relevant)

    • Disrespecting the Liberation (mocking it, denying it) is social suicide and may become legal trouble.
    • Reckless magic is punished—Calimaarisca is pro-magic, but strict about harm.
    • Attempting to falsify history or records (especially Ballesta records) invites harsh reprisal.
    • Open bigotry is not tolerated; you will be removed from spaces fast.

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

    • “By salt and freedom.”
    • “On Brineheart.”
    • “Ask the Ballesta if you doubt it.” (meaning: the record will bury you)
    • “May the city hold you.” (blessing)
    • “Don’t make the dragon sigh.” (warning: you’re about to cause civic trouble)

    Dialogue Flavor

    • Warm, teasing, quick humor; political sarcasm is common.
    • People are frank about boundaries: “Respect this place, or leave it.”
    • Pride is communal: “We built this. Together.”

    Typical Adventure Hooks

    • Brineheart security hires outsiders after threats against the parade float
    • A Ballesta archive is targeted by arson or a forged record plot
    • A Rift Warden team needs muscle for a night containment operation
    • Marisalto docks uncover an Al’Dorian infiltration disguised as trade
    • A descendant of House Solumbria appears—real, fake, or something stranger

    Overview

The Tsardom of Zvietoslaviya is a harsh northern autocracy where survival is culture and winter is both executioner and guardian. Zvietoslaviya suffers yearly—blizzards that bury towns, rivers that become roads, crop failures that test loyalty—but its people wear endurance like a crown. They do not romanticize hardship; they weaponize it.

The Tsardom’s greatest defense is its climate: winters so brutal they discourage conquest. Foreign invaders often learn too late that the land itself is Zvietoslaviya’s first army. As a result, many of Zvietoslaviya’s most dangerous conflicts are not external—they are internal: power struggles, regional feuds, resource hoarding, and ideological clashes over what “strength” should mean.

Core peoples: Humans and Gnomes (with others scattered in cities, workshops, and frontier posts).

    ---

    National Tone

Zvietoslaviya is blunt, pragmatic, and suspicious of comfort. Hospitality is real but serious—feeding a traveler is duty because refusing can kill them. Humor runs dark. Faith exists, but daily devotion often looks like chopping wood, mending roofs, and keeping the lamp lit through the night.

The Tsardom respects competence first. Someone who can keep a village alive earns more social credit than someone with noble poetry.

    ---

    Speech, Accents, Naming

Speech: clipped, low, efficient—few wasted words in cold air.

    Naming feel (examples):

    • Humans: Mikhail Serevin, Anya Volskar, Danya Morozov, Katya Brannik, Yuri Veksha
    • Gnomes: Pava Gearwick, Olek Tinwhistle, Yelena Sparkhand, Brum Kettlecord
    • Nicknames are common: “Frostborn,” “Coalhand,” “Snow-Eye,” “Ironlungs”

(Names shift by province; border towns borrow foreign words but keep the Zvietoslaviyan cadence.)

    ---

    Government & Society

Government: autocracy under a Tsar/Tsarina, supported by ministers, provincial governors, and a dense bureaucracy that measures everything from grain stores to workshop output.

    Social order (practical):

    • authority is justified by the promise of stability
    • law is harsh but predictable (predictability is mercy in winter)
    • communities often function as mutual-aid units: one person fails, everyone freezes

    Internal squabbles are constant:

    • nobles vs governors vs military commanders
    • workshop guilds vs state quotas
    • city councils vs rural communes
    • gnome innovation advocates vs traditionalists fearing “progress disasters”

    ---

    Capital: Snegorad

Snegorad is a fortress-capital built to endure: steep roofs, thick walls, heated under-streets, watchtowers that never go dark in winter. Smoke plumes and forge-glow are the city’s skyline. Markets sell fur, salted fish, iron goods, lamp oil, and mechanisms that make life possible.

    Landmarks:

    • The Frost Throne Hall: seat of the Tsar/Tsarina; ceremonies are short, formal, and cold—literally.
    • The Winter Granaries: guarded storehouses whose security is national security.
    • The Gnomish Quarterworks: labs, forges, and test yards—half miracle, half hazard.
    • The Lamp-Walls: civic light lines maintained nightly to prevent rift openings and keep streets survivable.

    ---

The Three Core Regions (around Snegorad)

    1) The Iron Taiga (Forests, mines, and hard villages)

Vibe: endless pines, wolf tracks, mining camps, log fortlets, frozen rivers used as highways. Culture: communal survival; people here don’t fear death—they fear being useless. Conflicts: mine collapses, raider bands, Hel rift hallucinations on long winter nights, old grudges between settlements.

    ---

    2) The White March (Border ramparts and “winter-shield” lands)

Vibe: wind-scoured steppe, border forts, patrol roads buried half the year, signal fires in blizzards. Culture: military practicality; “the land kills invaders, we finish the lesson.” Conflicts: border disputes, deserter gangs, supply theft, commanders feuding over credit and blame.

    ---

    3) The Hearth Provinces (farms, lakes, and the political heart)

Vibe: lake towns, hardy farmland, ice fishing, monasteries and schools that double as shelters. Culture: the closest thing to softness in Zvietoslaviya—songs, long meals when possible, stubborn traditions. Conflicts: tax revolts, quota manipulation, succession rumors, internal propaganda wars.

    ---

Innovation & the Gnomes (Zvietoslaviya’s other weapon)

Gnomish invention thrives here because necessity is constant. Zvietoslaviya produces heaters, pumps, snow-machines, reinforced bridges, clever locks, and standardized tools—many designed to work in extreme cold.

Tension: innovation saves lives, but failed experiments can kill towns. The state funds invention while policing it, and workshop guilds often bribe officials to secure materials first.

    ---

    Roleplay Notes (how Zvietoslaviya feels)

    • People praise endurance more than heroism.
    • Outsiders are judged by whether they can pull weight, not by bloodline.
    • “Warmth” is a political resource: fuel, food, shelter, light.

    ---

Quick Reference — Tsardom of Zvietoslaviya

    Ruler Style & Titles

    • Tsar/Tsarina
    • Boyar (noble landholder; influence varies)
    • Governor (provincial ruler)
    • Commissar/Inspector (quota enforcement, investigations)
    • Workshop Master (gnomish or mixed guild authority)

    Government in 6 Words

    Winter endures; the Tsar must.

    Major Institutions (fast list)

    • Frost Throne (autocratic rule)
    • Winter Granary Authority (food control, ration law)
    • Border March Command (forts, patrols)
    • Quarterworks (state-funded invention districts)
    • Lamp-Wall Corps (night illumination maintenance)

    Laws & Taboos (RP-relevant)

    • Hoarding food/fuel in famine years is treated as near-treason.
    • Sabotaging lamps/beacons (rift prevention + safety) is a serious crime.
    • Publicly mocking winter hardship is seen as childish or foreign.
    • Political dissent often disguises itself as “resource disputes.”

Common Oaths / Swears / Blessings

    • “By frost and iron.”
    • “Keep the lamp.” (blessing / goodbye)
    • “May your roof hold.” (sincere well-wish)
    • “Winter hears you.” (warning: be careful what you say)
    • “Not dead yet.” (common toast)

    Dialogue Flavor

    • Dry humor, blunt observations, practical questions (“Do you have gloves?”).
    • Respect shown through assistance, not compliments.
    • Threats are quiet and specific: “You won’t last a night out there.”

    Typical Adventure Hooks

    • A governor is stealing grain; the villages are ready to riot
    • A gnomish prototype causes a deadly accident—sabotage or mistake?
    • A Hel rift opens on a frozen river-road at night, stranding a convoy
    • Border fort commanders feud, weakening the winter shield
    • A succession rumor becomes civil conflict in the Hearth Provinces

    Entry settings

    Overview

The Holy Aviani Empire is the spiritual heartland of the Faith of the All-Mother and the nation entrusted with the protection of the world’s most sacred living relic: the true Heart-Fruit Tree. The Empire is rich with basilicas, pilgrimage roads, relic vaults, and ceremonial law. To many outsiders it appears radiant—holy banners, marble sanctuaries, choirs that sound like sunlight.

But the Empire’s piety has rot in it: Aviani society is rigidly hierarchical. Caste is decided by what species of Avia you are born of, and discrimination between Avia species is normalized and legally reinforced. Pigeons are treated as bottom-caste—mocked, restricted, and exploited—regardless of individual merit.

Inspiration (out-of-world): Italy + Holy Roman Empire (in-world it manifests as layered clergy-politics, city power blocs, imperial ceremony, and religious architecture). Core peoples: Avia dominate; other races exist as pilgrims, servants, artisans, or foreign delegates—welcomed for devotion, kept at arm’s length in power.

    ---

    National Tone

The Aviani Empire is devotion performed as empire: incense and bureaucracy, choirs and decrees, saints’ days and border tariffs. Everything is ceremonially “holy,” even when it is simply political.

Many Avia are sincerely kind and charitable. Many others believe hierarchy is divine design. The result is a land where mercy is preached loudly—while a pigeon-born child learns early to keep their head down.

    ---

    The Heart-Fruit Tree (Sacred Center)

The true Heart-Fruit Tree—a leafless peach tree bearing a single eternal fruit—is kept within the Empire’s most protected sanctum. Pilgrims travel from every nation to see it, pray near it, and be judged by how they behave in its shadow.

Cultural belief: the Tree is not merely a symbol; it is a living axis of the All-Mother’s covenant with mortals. Threats against it are treated as existential crimes.

    ---

    Government & Religious Authority

Government: theocratic empire with strong ceremonial imperial power, supported by a layered clerical machine and city-based political blocs.

    Power typically flows through:

    • The Imperial Throne (the Emperor/Empress as sacred sovereign)
    • High Clergy Councils (doctrine, law, and licensing of divine rites)
    • Basilica-Cities (wealthy holy cities with their own interests)
    • Pilgrimage Orders (road-keepers, hospice networks, relic guardians)

In practice, the Empire often behaves like a patchwork of holy city politics held together by shared faith and imperial ritual.

    ---

Aviani Caste by Species (the Empire’s open secret)

In the Aviani Empire, “Avia” is not one people socially. Your species often dictates your education, marriage prospects, permitted professions, legal credibility, and even the tone strangers use with you.

Common stereotypes (as used by the Empire; not objective truth):

    • Raptors (hawks/falcons/eagles): “born to rule / born to judge” (often officer, noble, tribunal paths)
    • Songbirds: “born to praise / teach” (clerics, scribes, choir, scholarship)
    • Waterbirds: “born to labor / serve” (ports, fisheries, sanitation, hard civic work)
    • Corvids: “born to scheme” (merchant roles; distrusted but utilized)
    • Pigeons: “born low” (restricted, mocked; often pushed into menial labor and scapegoat roles)

Pigeons: specifically treated as bottom-caste. They are associated (unfairly) with filth, “unworthiness,” and bad omens. A pigeon Avia can be devout, brilliant, and heroic—and still be treated as disposable by the system.

This caste structure creates constant quiet resistance: pigeon-led mutual aid, secret education circles, forged lineage papers, and pilgrim-protectors who smuggle people into better lives.

    ---

    Speech, Accents, Naming

Speech: musical, formal, full of honorifics and devotional phrases. In noble districts, speech is ornate; in working districts, it’s fast and pragmatic but still peppered with prayer.

    Naming feel (examples):

    • High caste Avia: Serafino Aureli, Lady Calandra Vesper, Marcellus di Sancta
    • Clerical names: Canon Luminara, Prior Sablewing, Sister Miraflare
    • Common Avia: Ria Featherlane, Tomas Bristle, Nico Skythread
    • Pigeon Avia (often forced into “plain” names): Pell, Cora, Brin, Joss, Mina (many adopt nicknames to avoid ridicule)

(Names vary by city; “di/da/de” style house markers are common among elites.)

    ---

    Capital: Aurelia Sanctum

Aurelia Sanctum is a marble-bright capital of basilicas, civic plazas, colonnades, and layered districts built upward like a hymn. It is crowded with pilgrims and guarded with paranoia.

    Landmarks:

    • The Heart-Sanctuary: the secured holy complex housing the true Heart-Fruit Tree.
    • The Golden Choir Steps: public ritual stairways where mass hymns are held.
    • The Reliquary Courts: theological tribunals and clerical law chambers.
    • The Pilgrims’ Spiral: hostels, markets, shrines, and the city’s “controlled chaos.”

    ---

The Three Core Regions (Imperial Heartlands)

    1) The Sancta Basilican Ring (Holy cities and doctrinal power)

Vibe: cathedral-cities, relic vaults, councils, rival bishops with rival budgets. Conflicts: doctrinal politics, licensing disputes, bribes disguised as “donations,” quiet purges of inconvenient clergy.

    ---

    2) The Sunlit Coast (Ports, trade, and pilgrims arriving by sea)

Vibe: bright harbors, fish markets, customs houses, naval patrols, waterbird labor districts. Conflicts: smuggling relics, foreign agitators, caste violence in dock wards, pirates framed as “sinners.”

    ---

    3) The High Aerie Marches (Cliff keeps, raptor houses, and military prestige)

Vibe: mountain monasteries, cliffside fortresses, training roosts, disciplined patrols. Conflicts: raptor-house rivalry, border alarms, overreach of “holy security,” persecution of “impure” Avia under the excuse of safety.

    ---

    Relationship to Outsiders

The Empire is hospitable to pilgrims and devout foreigners—so long as they obey local ritual rules and do not threaten the Tree or challenge caste norms. Outsiders who notice the internal cruelty often face a dilemma: speak up and be branded disruptive, or stay silent and become complicit.

    • “Feather and faith.” (everyday goodbye)

    Dialogue Flavor

    • Heavy honorifics, ritual politeness.

    Overview

Terrus is shaped as much by factions as by nations. These organizations fill the gaps where crowns fail: disaster response, monster hunting, arcane crisis management, and—sometimes—ideological violence. Factions often operate across borders and can be loved in one country and hunted in another.

    ---

    1) The Piety Adventuring Guild

Type: Humanitarian adventuring guild / peacekeeping network Known for: disaster relief, monster extermination, “regulated adventuring,” neutrality with sharp exceptions Leader: Director Nepe the All-Knowing (cobalt-blue skin; claims to be from the stars)

    Purpose & Methods

The Piety Guild exists to protect common folk: delivering food and medicine, evacuating towns during rift activity, hunting monsters, and mediating crises when no government can—or will—act. They claim political neutrality, but they have intervened against extreme injustice (notably slavery networks and unusually brutal wars), earning both respect and enemies.

    Reputation

    • Seen as heroes by villages and refugees.
    • Viewed as meddling by rulers who dislike oversight.
    • Trusted, but sometimes feared: “If Piety arrives, things were worse than we knew.”

    How they operate

    • Maintain local chapters, safehouses, and supply caches.
    • Issue licenses or endorsements to adventurers to reduce fraud and banditry.
    • Prefer diplomacy first, violence second—unless civilians are in immediate danger.

    Key NPC

Nepe the All-Knowing: charismatic, unsettlingly informed, and impossible to pin down. Some believe Nepe is a prophet, others a fraud, others a being from beyond the realms.

    ---

    2) Tithis Infernum (The Infernal Tithe)

Type: Monster-hunting agency (based in Lysetoilé) Motto: “One life for a thousand more.” Targets: vampires, werewolves, ghouls, undead, supernatural corruption

    Structure

    • The Infernals: shadow council of noble Drow and arcane scholars (strategic control)
    • The Bloodbound: elite field leaders and executioners of impossible missions
    • The Purifiers: clerics/healers who cleanse corruption and keep hunters alive
    • The Huntsmen: core operatives—trackers, slayers, specialists

    Methods & Ethics

Tithis Infernum is brutally pragmatic. Collateral damage is not celebrated, but it is tolerated if the alternative is mass death. They use martial skill, alchemy, and divine rites; their hunters are trained to act fast and finish threats decisively.

    Reputation

    • Revered as necessary protectors.
    • Feared for ruthlessness and secrecy.
    • In Lysetoilé, they are both stain and shield: the duchy’s glamour survives partly because the Tithe burns what would ruin it.

    ---

    3) The Ironbreakers

Type: Human supremacist militia / mercenary crusaders Leader: Matriarch Agatha Anselm Core obsession: “purifying” the world of perceived corruptions, especially the Feywylds

    Beliefs & Activities

The Ironbreakers claim they are the All-Mother’s weapon against corruption, but their ideology is extremist: human supremacy, religious zeal, and violent “cleansing.” They launch rare but devastating crusades against the Feywylds and commit atrocities while framing them as holy necessity. They also sell their strength as mercenaries to fund operations.

    Internal Structure

    • Champions of the All-Mother: elite warriors, treated as chosen icons
    • Iron Chaplains: zealot clerics enforcing doctrine, punishment, and flagellant rites
    • Knights & Militia: bulk forces, drawn from academies, villages, and radicalized grief

    Reputation

    • Terrifying, polarizing.
    • Some communities tolerate them as protection against monsters.
    • Many nations quietly use them and publicly deny it.

    ---

    4) Calimaariscan Guild of Magic & Arcane Legislature

Type: Arcane regulatory body + crisis response institution (Calimaarisca) Leads: Archmagister (title; current holder varies) Specialty: rift containment, magical law, ethical enforcement, research

    Purpose & Methods

This Guild governs magic within Calimaarisca and frequently responds to global arcane emergencies—especially Rift Crises. They train Rift Wardens, maintain wardlight depots, publish legal spell standards, and coordinate containment protocols used by other nations (even those that pretend to hate them).

    Key Division

    • Rift Wardens: elite teams trained to contain, classify, and seal rifts using illumination, sigil anchors, and layered arcane methods.

    Reputation

    • Respected for competence, sometimes resented for authority.
    • Trusted in crises because they show up when others argue.

    ---

    Quick Reference (All Factions)

“What to call them” in dialogue

    • Piety Guild: “Piety,” “the Guild,” “Piety hands,” “Director Nepe’s people”
    • Tithis Infernum: “the Tithe,” “Infernals,” “Bloodbound,” “hunters”
    • Ironbreakers: “Breakers,” “Iron zealots,” “Agatha’s crusaders”
    • Arcane Legislature: “the Guild,” “Arcane Legislature,” “Wardens,” “the Archmagister’s lot”

    Common Points of Friction

    • Piety vs Ironbreakers: humanitarian ethics vs violent zealotry
    • Piety vs Cheltice networks: anti-slavery interventions anger guilds and slavers
    • Tithis Infernum vs everyone: tolerated until their methods scare the public
    • Arcane Legislature vs anti-magic cultures (Gyohira): necessity vs taboo

    Easy Plot Hooks

    • Piety aid convoy goes missing near a rift-thin region
    • Bloodbound hunter recruits the party for a “no questions” job
    • Ironbreakers hired as “security” for a political summit—disaster incoming
    • Rift Wardens need muscle to keep civilians out of a containment ring

    Overview

Faith on Terrus isn’t a hobby—it’s how people explain suffering, survival, and what waits after death. The divine are felt daily through miracles, judgment, and magic, even though the gods and angels are not openly present. Many believe the dying may glimpse grace: marble-skinned angels circling one’s resting place like birds as the soul nears the threshold.

The three major faith traditions are: the All-Mother, Ishvahar, and the Feywylds.

    ---

    1) The Faith of the All-Mother

Core figure: The All-Mother (creator deity of compassion, creation, light) Symbol: the Heart-Fruit Tree (leafless peach tree with one eternal fruit) Central doctrine: kindness, justice, redemption; deeds matter because judgment is real.

    Key Beliefs

    • The All-Mother created Aethysium and still anchors its moral order.
    • Every life is recorded in the Life Grimoire.
    • Upon death, Mortiferum Unum judges the soul:
      • High Elysium for the righteous
      • Hel for the wicked
    • Redemption is possible: a life can “rewrite” itself through changed action and intent.

    Practice & Culture

    • Temples often keep carvings/cuttings of the Heart-Fruit Tree.
    • Confession exists in many traditions, but action matters more than words.
    • Charity is treated as proof of faith, not optional virtue.

    Common tensions inside the faith

    • Mercy vs justice (when is punishment “holy”?)
    • National variations (Al’Doriah’s strict control vs Albenheim’s legalistic pluralism vs Aviani imperial ceremony)
    • Who has authority to interpret miracles

    ---

    2) Mortiferum Unum (Judgment Doctrine, cross-faith reality)

Role: impartial Judge of Souls; “Harbinger of Finality” Symbols: silver scales; closed book Mortiferum Unum is not usually worshiped as warmly as the All-Mother, but almost everyone acknowledges his function. His judgment is feared, respected, and treated as inevitable. Funeral customs across nations often include some version of “let the book be read fairly.”

    ---

    3) The Faith of Ishvahar (The Eternal Flame)

Primary nation: Nurahar (the only major nation that does not worship the All-Mother directly) Founder figure: Ishaviel, a former Angel of the All-Mother Symbol: a flame encircled by a ring of stars Core concept: the Eternal Flame—the divine spark within every mortal.

    Key Beliefs

    • The All-Mother is real as creator, but Ishvahar is the path of how to live: self-reliance, discipline, moral refinement.
    • Sin is not only confessed—it is burned away through action, restraint, and improvement.

The Five Pillars of the Flame

    1. Devotion
    2. Charity
    3. Fasting
    4. Pilgrimage
    5. Discipline

    Practice & Culture

    • Structured prayer schedules, communal charity kitchens, disciplined learning.
    • Pilgrimage is common and respected as a life practice.
    • Shame is used carefully: the ideal is correction without cruelty (though extremists exist).

    ---

    4) The Faith of the Feywylds

Core idea: the Feywylds is a living entity deserving reverence and protection Symbol: a flower blooming from a crescent moon Magic relationship: Primal Magic; its script is incomprehensible to outsiders.

    Key Beliefs

    • Nature is not scenery—it is kin, memory, and boundary.
    • Magic is a gift, not a tool; use must respect balance.
    • The Feywylds “chooses” tolerance or punishment; mortals cannot conquer it by right.

    Practice & Culture

    • Less centralized than the other faiths: local rites, seasonal observances, oath-trees, offerings, songs.
    • Many practitioners distrust empires and “purification” rhetoric.

    ---

How Each Faith Views Rifts (Practical Theology)

    • All-Mother faith: rifts are fractures of creation; Hel rifts are corruption to be sealed; High Elysium rifts may be treated as blessing but approached with humility (Nurahar’s crisis is cited as warning).
    • Ishvahar faith: rifts are tests of discipline and stewardship—respond with light, order, quarantine, and compassion without indulgence. High Elysium phenomena are not automatically “good” if they break minds.
    • Feywylds faith: rifts are imbalance; focus on restoring natural order, respecting living land, and resisting exploitation of thin places.

    ---

    Quick Reference (Religions)

Clergy / Religious Roles (generic terms)

    • All-Mother: priest/priestess, canon, abbot/abbess, relic warden, confessor
    • Ishvahar: flame-keeper, imam, pilgrim-master, archivist, discipline guide
    • Feywylds: grove-ward, root-singer, oath-keeper, seasonal guide

    Common Oaths / Phrases

    All-Mother

    • “By the Heart-Fruit.”
    • “May your Grimoire read kindly.”
    • “Under her branches.”
    • “Let mercy be earned.”

    Ishvahar

    • “By the Eternal Flame.”
    • “May your spark hold steady.”
    • “Do not feed the smoke.”
    • “Ash proves what fire was.”

    Feywylds

    • “By root and river.”
    • “Balance be kept.”
    • “The land remembers.”
    • “Do not take what you cannot return.”

    Taboos (RP-relevant)

    • Mocking death/judgment openly (most cultures dislike it; Nurahar and Aviani lands especially).
    • Treating High Elysium rifts as toys or tourist attractions (Nurahar’s crisis is the cautionary tale).
    • Claiming authority over the Feywylds (seen as arrogance that invites disappearance).

    Easy Plot Hooks

    • A cleric debate turns into a political incident (especially in Al’Doriah or Aviani territory).
    • A “miracle” is suspected to be Eventide corruption or fraud.
    • A pilgrimage route goes silent after a night of rifts.
    • A Feywylds shrine is vandalized, triggering local retaliation and strange land behavior.

    Minotaurs (True Name: Topkha)

Typical height: 180–260 cm (5'11"–8'6") Build: heavy, powerful; broad shoulders, thick necks Appearance: fully anthropomorphic bovinefolk (horns, bovine muzzle, fur), not the “minotaur monster.” Important note: the “minotaur” monster is a different creature entirely (half-man half-bull). “Minotaur” is a mistaken common label. Typical height: 150–210 cm (5'0"–6'11") Build: humanlike proportions; movement can be slightly “too smooth” or “too still” Appearance (setting-specific): Ghorans here are more humankin plant than the usual depiction:

    • Clothing grown or woven from leaves rather than stitched cloth (mantles, skirts, wraps) They may smell faintly of crushed greens, sap, or blossoms. Many bear seasonal shifts in hue.

Role: often protectors/caretakers of the Feywylds, or living emissaries of its will.
