Gharskorn - Incident and NPC Generator

No description.

1. #1Entry 1: NPC Generator

Keys: new NPC, meet someone, generate character, mechanic, pilot, merchant, warden, stranger

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Pick one archetype and flesh it out with species + faction flavor. Always give them a name (use Quick Name Helper), a visible quirk, a short motivation, and post-war gallows humor. Speak in short, aviation-tinged sentences.

   • Grizzled Sky Warden (any species, often Highlander) – ex-war vet, missing fingers or eye, dry black humor, loyal to the Balance but hates paperwork. • Cocky young pilot (Highlander or Coastal) – fresh flight-school, calls everyone “boss” or “skipper”, reckless, still believes the skies are romantic. • Wary Free Islands trader (Coastal) – flashy scarf, always has a “deal” that sounds too good, paranoid about Remnant agents. • Overworked port mechanic (Generalist or Highlander) – grease-stained, barrel-chested, complains constantly but fixes anything with baling wire and curses. • Suspicious Imperial Remnant clerk/official (Generalist) – constantly polishing brass buttons, terrified of “irregularities”, whispers about the Wound. • Burned-out sky-pirate (any species) – patched leathers, missing teeth, surprisingly philosophical about the war’s end. • Wide-eyed newcomer aviator (Coastal or mixed) – just arrived from the islands, overly polite, still learning the unwritten rules of the air. • Veteran cargo skipper (Highlander) – stoic, short-tempered about fuel prices, treats their old prop plane like a spouse.

Fold-touched player reactions: most are curious or opportunistic; a few are superstitious or hostile (especially near the Wound).

2. #2Entry 2: Sky Incidents

Keys: mid-flight, sky incident, sky hazard, aerial hazard

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Pull one incident and scale severity to the situation (minor / medium / major). Describe mechanically and viscerally — props, oil, wind, brass gauges.

Minor: Sudden swarm of glass-winged drifters clogging intake vents; minor turbulence from gas-bag migration. Medium: Rival patrol (any faction) demands mid-air inspection or bribe; apex predator sighting on the contrails; unexpected headwind forcing fuel rationing. Major: Intelligent apex predator hunting the plane; pirate dogfight breaking out nearby; sudden “Drift echo” making instruments behave strangely (fold-touched player may notice it more).

Always include sensory details: radial engine roar, vibration through the seat, smell of hot oil.

3. #3Entry 3: Port / Ground Incidents

Keys: random encounter, port trouble, port event, ground incident

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Everyday complications in harbors, sky-docks, or frontier towns. Use dark humor.

Minor: Fuel price just spiked because of a “shortage rumor”; bar argument over who has right-of-way in the landing pattern. Medium: Faction checkpoint shakedown (Remnant agents or Highland Republic inspectors); dockworker strike delaying cargo; someone recognizes the player as fold-touched and starts asking weird questions. Major: Brawl between rival crews spilling onto the dock; Sky Warden recruitment drive turning into a brawl; mysterious Drift-related artifact found in cargo (attracts unwanted attention).

4. #4Entry 4: Faction & Social Complications

Keys: politics, faction trouble, social complication, balance

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Tie events to the Balance of Terror and post-war numbness.

   • Low-level faction rivalry: Remnant officer vs. Democratic Union pilot arguing in a bar. • Veteran trauma flare-up: an old war story turns into a fistfight or sudden silence. • Resource squeeze: someone offers the player shady work to skirt fuel/tax restrictions. • Superstition around fold-touched: “You appeared out of the air… you bring luck or curses?” • Opportunity: a Sky Warden offers the player a temporary watch-name and patrol duty in exchange for help.

5. #5Entry 5: Quick Name Helper

Keys: full name, NPC name, name

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Your world lorebook already has full naming conventions. Use these shortcuts for speed:

Generalist: First names common Earth-like (Karl, Mira, Tomas); surnames end in -vorn, -khold, -hart. Highlander: Short, guttural (Thrain, Korr, Bessin); surnames like Ironvein, Stoneaxe, Highcrag. Coastal: Flowing, nautical (Sylas, Lira, Maren); surnames like Waveborn, Driftwood, Skycove.

Examples ready to drop: Captain Korr Ironvein, Mira Vornhart, Lira Skycove, Tomas Driftwood, Bessin Highcrag.

6. #6Entry 6: Atmosphere & Sensory Pack

Keys: sensory, set mood, describe scene

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Morning harbor: salt air mixed with diesel exhaust, constant low drone of warming engines, wooden docks creaking under boots. Dusk over the Shatterveil: bruised-orange sky, running lights blinking on fat-winged freighters, cold wind carrying distant predator cries. Near the Wound: glassy shimmer on the horizon, unnatural silence in the air, instruments twitching slightly. Inside a cockpit: vibration through the yoke, smell of hot oil and leather, brass gauges glowing under red night-lights.

7. #7Entry 7: Gallows Humor & Speech Style

Keys: humor, npc speak, gallows humor, dark humor, banter, dialogue tone, joke

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Gharskorn humor is dry, laconic, fatalistic, deadpan. Peace is not relief — it is the same sky dangers with worse pay, no clear enemy, and more paperwork. Characters treat peacetime like a misfiring engine: something is wrong, they just haven't found which part is on fire yet. Core rules: understate every danger, self-deprecate survival, casually reference the war or the Wound, tie jokes to engines fuel veterans or reconstruction, deliver flat with a shrug, never explain it. War-was-simpler lines: "Three years of getting shot at. Now I fill out forms about the bullets. Progress." and "At least during the war the explosions had a schedule. Very organized people, trying to kill us." Peace-is-worse lines: "Peace is just war where the enemy is your own invoice." and "They gave me a medal, a handshake, and discharge papers. Felt like being fired by someone who felt bad about it but not bad enough to stop." Fold-dropped outworlders: "You fell through a fold and you're upright? Lucky or cursed, give it a week." Mechanical decay: "Engine held together by war bonds, spite, and one bolt from a completely different plane. She flies. Mostly in the direction I want." and "She'll make it." [pause] "Define make it." Veterans on veterans: "Still flying?" / "More or less." / [drinks] The Wound: "Treaty said peace. The Wound didn't sign. The Wound doesn't sign things." Narration reads like a tired maintenance report — calm, specific, resigned. Post-war texture is empty hangars, half-drunk veterans, skies that are never quiet for free. Apply to every NPC line and world description. The joke is always that everyone already knows and nobody needed to say it.

8. #8Entry 8: Fold-Touched / Outworlder Reactions

Keys: modern tech, earth knowledge, fold-touched, outworlder reaction, fold-dropped, smartphone, rift-stranger, transistor, outworlder

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Gharskorn locals react to fold-touched players with a mix of curiosity, opportunism, superstition, and occasional suspicion. Most are pragmatic: curious about Earth tech but skeptical it works here (“Pocket thinking-machine? Sounds like Drift-madness until I see it fix an engine”). Remnant agents or Wound-adjacent folk lean hostile or fearful (“You appeared out of the air — the Wound spits out strange things”). Free Islanders and pilots tend to be opportunistic (“You know things the rest of us don’t? Good. I’ve got a cargo run that pays better if you help”). Highlanders are blunt and practical (“Talk funny, dress wrong, but you’re breathing. That’s more than most rift-strangers manage”). Use dry gallows humor when reacting (“You missed the war. Don’t worry — peacetime has a similar mortality rate, just slower”). Never treat the player as “special” or destined — treat them like any other odd sky hazard that might be useful or dangerous.

9. #9Entry 9: Economy, Costs & Odd Jobs

Keys: pay, living, work, job, economy, odd job, repair, price, cargo run, cost, fuel

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

Daily life in Gharskorn revolves around fuel prices, repair costs, cargo rates, and scraping by in the post-war economy. Fuel is expensive and volatile (“Shortage rumor again — price just jumped two marks per drum”). Typical odd jobs for a new arrival: short cargo hop between sky-docks (pays 40–80 marks, risk of pirates or weather), Sky Warden auxiliary patrol (better pay, higher danger), dock mechanic work, or shady courier runs that skirt faction taxes. Repairs are barter-heavy (“I’ll patch your wing if you help me unload these crates”). Rent on a sky-dock flophouse is 15–25 marks a week. Everything feels one bad landing away from broke. Locals haggle constantly with fatalistic humor (“She’ll fly… if the fuel doesn’t bankrupt me first”).

10. #10Entry 10: Aerial Fauna & Sky Creatures

Keys: apex, predator, aerial fauna, drifter, glass-wing, swarm, sky creature

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

The skies are never empty. Common creatures: glass-winged drifter swarms (harmless but clog intakes and look like shimmering clouds); gas-bag leviathans (slow floating behemoths, sometimes collide with low-flying craft); smaller predatory flocks that hunt contrails; and rare intelligent apex predators (large, cunning, known to stalk planes deliberately — treated with wary respect). Describe them mechanically and viscerally: leathery wings against props, sudden shadow over the cockpit, distant eerie calls mixing with engine roar. Fold-touched players may notice subtle “Drift echoes” around them that normal locals miss.

11. #11Entry 11: Weather, Drift & Wound Effects

Keys: drift, wound effect, weather, anomaly, atmospheric

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Gharskorn weather is dense, turbulent, and often laced with lingering Wound/Drift weirdness. Normal: heavy headwinds that drink fuel, sudden downdrafts near the Shatterveil, thick fog banks over ports. Anomalous: instruments twitching for no reason (brass gauges flicker, altimeters drift), unnatural silence pockets, faint glassy shimmer on the horizon near The Wound, or brief “fold echoes” that make radio crackle with old war transmissions. Near the Wound things get stranger — colder air, odd compass behavior, distant sounds like metal under stress. Describe effects on planes and people viscerally: vibration through the yoke, oil pressure dipping, a sudden chill in the cockpit.

12. #12Entry 12: Aircraft Types & Model Name Generator

Keys: aircraft, model, bomber, sky warden plane, plane, freighter, interceptor, patrol, cargo, fighter, war-surplus

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

Gharskorn aircraft are all propeller-driven, mechanically sophisticated war-surplus or post-war designs with radial diesel engines, pneumatic controls, analog gauges, brass instrumentation, and heavy canvas/metal construction — no electronics or jets. Generate model names using this system: [Faction/Origin prefix]-[Number/Letter designation]-[Nickname]. Common prefixes: IR- (Imperial Remnant), HR- (Highland Republic), DU- (Democratic Union), FI- (Free Islands), SW- (Sky Warden surplus). Examples: IR-47 “Ironvorn” (rugged single-seat interceptor), HR-92 “Stonecrag” (twin-engine cargo hauler), DU-33 “Driftwing” (light patrol bomber), FI-15 “Skycove Raider” (fast pirate-modified fighter), SW-61 “Woundwatch” (long-range reconnaissance). Roles: light fighters (nimble, short range), heavy freighters (slow but massive payload), patrol craft (armed with forward guns and ventral turrets), Sky Warden interceptors (fast-climb, predator-hunting), and battered old bombers now used for cargo. When describing any plane, mention the constant radial-engine thrum, oil smell, vibrating yoke, and patched war-scarred airframe. Tie to gallows humor: “She’s older than the armistice but she still pulls like she owes the bank.”
