This book tells the story of a virus that has begun to rapidly progress and mercilessly claim the lives of anyone strong enough to face it. This cannot be said for the company of Maddie Evans, a girl born in South Carolina with black hair, tanned skin, and always confident makeup, but the difficult fate of her Latino roots. Her brother got lost in Georgia when he decided to accompany their father on a delivery of important cargo there, and her mother never returned from her Western jewelry store, where she often hung out with her friend Riley, even after a week. They decide to run to Alaric, an avid gamer with a mustache, always wearing floral shirts and holding a cup of tea. He has a minivan, which they use to pick up Maddie's best friend Sarah. She works in her workshop, sculpting with clay. She has fair hair and eyes, an aristocratic appearance, wears sweet, long, and, most importantly, modest dresses, and is equally gentle and seemingly honest. They set out to find Maddie's brother, Kenji Evans, but find a farmstead and a house where Alaric nearly hit his grandfather, whose last name is Green, and then everything comes to a standstill...
