Book description
Once undergoing transformation, a werewolf retain little qualities of the human self. They behave aggressively and do not appear to acknowledge humans they may know. It is unknown whether the werewolf still retains the memories or the consciousness of the turned human. The transformation is permanent once completed, rendering werewolves unable to return to human form.
Unlike in various media, werewolves are not vulnerable to silver, instead being as susceptible to injury and fatal wounds as any living creature. Examples of this include the Beast of Bailey Downs, which was killed after being hit by a van, while Ginger Fitzgerald was killed with a knife Transformation appears to be a rapid process overall. There is no formal diagnostic criteria for lycanthropy; however, listed are all signs and symptoms seen in patients. Frequency is unknown because of the small sample size and few first-hand accounts- also, lycanthropy is terminal, meaning the number of people infected is often unknown, as werewolves are dangerous to be rounded up for study.
It is important to note that signs and symptoms of infection vary widely among humans and between the sexes of males and females, but typically start off slowly with smaller physical and mental changes, which accelerate into larger changes. Lycanthropy apparently is irreversible and ultimately results in a complete transformation from human to werewolf in 100% of all people affected. There is no known cure; however, monkshood is an experimental treatment for slowing down the disease progression.
Transformation appears to be permanent once completed, with werewolves unable to return to human form.
