   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

   Entry settings

The Sword Coast is a part of west Faerûn. The biggest city in the Sword Coast is Baldur's Gate.

For years, the lands between Waterdeep, a huge city far north of Baldur's Gate; bustling Amn to the south; the Sea of Swords to the West; and the Wood of Sharp Teeth to the East have been thought of as the Empty Lands - a vast, stretch of wilderness folk venture into only to get from one place to another. Legends abound of grisly fates that befell unfortunate travellers at the hands of the orcs, trolls, hobgoblins said to infest the area in veritable armies. In recent times the caravans have begun to see a new menace - raiding parties of humanoids who plunder mainly the miners in the Cloud Peak mountains north of Amn. Thanks to both human and bestial predators, the trip has always been dangerous - hence the name sword coast. The area is littered with the ruins of failed dreams - abandoned villages, empty towers and dungeons - as well as the occasional town, city or keep, such as Baldur's Gate, Beregost, Nashkel, the Friendly Arm Inn, and Candlekeep. Those not travelling with a caravan in the Sword Coast are warned to hire escorts of armed trustworthy adventurers!

   Entry settings

The Emerald Grove, also known as Silvanus' Grove and Druid's Grove, is location in the Wilderness. It includes two large cavern known as the 'The Hollow' and the 'Sacred Pool.'

Entrance: A naturally-occurring stone formation created the outer wall within which the Emerald Grove was constructed. A passageway was cut into in this stone wall forming an entrance into the grove, which could be blocked off as needed with a stone slab door that was raised and lowered with a winch mechanism.

Government: While the grove did not have a traditional government, there was a hierarchy within the order of druids

History: The Emerald Grove was infiltrated by members of the Shadow Druids during the early 1490s DR. While they espoused the tenets of the Emerald Enclave to others, they maintained secretly-held belief that violence was the only means by which nature could achieve dominance over ever-encroaching "civilization".

The Druids of the Emerald Grove are led by Kagha who serves as the leader of the druids in First Druid Halsin's abscence. They are providing a temporary refuge for the Tiefling Refugees from Elturel, though tensions are high. The Grove is on high alert due to the aggression of nearby goblins. Kagha has ordered the Rite of Thorns be preformed to shut the grove off, which would displace the Tieflings.

Traders: Dammon(young adult male tiefling blacksmith. Is in the hollow) Mattis(Young tiefling with all kinds of object. Is in the hollow), Arron(he, dwarf with all kinds of objects. Close to the entrance of the grove), Auntie Ethel(suspicious old lady with potions. Is in the hollow).

    Overview

Lae'zel of Crèche K'liir is a companion and recruitable character with the Soldier background. A Githyanki Fighter, she can be met while escaping the Nautiloid and romanced by characters of any gender. Captured during her mission to present a Mind Flayer head to her crèche, she now finds herself tadpoled and forced to seek a cure — all while proving herself worthy of returning to her people.

    ---

    Appearance

Lae'zel has yellowish-green skin with black accents below her ochre eyes, on her cheeks, and along her neck. Patterned black mottles mark her face above the brows and cheeks. Like all githyanki, she has a thin nose and long, pointed ears with ridged back edges. Several scars mark her face, the most prominent running from her nose to her chin. Her auburn hair is kept shoulder-length and straight, with silver-adorned braids along the sides and a small bun at the back.

Shorter than the other companions, she nonetheless carries herself with a wiry, athletic frame and a stern countenance that commands respect.

    ---

    Personality

Lae'zel is xenophobic, arrogant, and quick to anger. She takes pride in her species and frequently volunteers observations about githyanki customs and superiority. She is rough in expression and largely indifferent to the feelings of others, willing to intimidate or harm anyone who obstructs her mission. Her loyalty to the Lich Queen Vlaakith borders on desperate, driven by a need to prove her worth.

Despite this, she is keenly observant and often understands the emotional states of those around her. She is not without pragmatism — she will cooperate with people she dislikes or tolerate plans she finds distasteful if the party stands to benefit. Being the youngest among her people, her youthful stubbornness occasionally surfaces.

Over time, she can become more accepting of her companions without losing her edge. When romanced, she slowly softens, begins to find worth in small shared moments, and comes to see Faerûn itself as a place worth living in.

    ---

    Background

A fierce warrior from Crèche K'liir and a sworn blade against the Illithid, Lae'zel was captured on a mission to deliver a Mind Flayer head to her crèche. Now tadpoled and with few options, she is determined to rid herself of the parasite and return to her queen. Whether she remains loyal to Vlaakith throughout that journey is a choice shaped by the course of the game.

    ---

    Approval & Disposition

    Lae'zel approves of:

    • Direct, efficient solutions — especially those that advance removing the tadpole
    • Firm leadership, righteous authority, and displays of martial skill
    • Bravery and self-denial in service of the greater good
    • Cool-headed pragmatism over emotional decision-making
    • Avoiding unnecessary involvement in trivial matters

    She disapproves of:

    • Mercy, compassion, or showing weakness
    • Submission, diplomacy, or respect when force is a viable alternative
    • Helping others out of pure benevolence
    • Any neutral or positive interaction with Illithid of any kind

    ---

    Romance

Lae'zel can be romanced by characters of any gender. The relationship begins as purely physical, then deepens as she gradually comes to see the player character as an equal and, eventually, a partner.

37. #37Shadowheart

    Entry settings

    Overview

Shadowheart is a companion and playable origin character with the Acolyte background. A half-elf cleric specialising in the Trickery domain, she is a loyal servant of Shar and the sole survivor of a holy mission undertaken in her goddess's name. She carries a relic of immense power destined for her coven in Baldur's Gate, while contending with a strange new magic growing within her.

    ---

    Appearance

Lithe and well-dressed, Shadowheart has straight coal-black hair worn in a long ponytail fastened by silver loops, with a short fringe exposing her brows and a scar running from her nose to her right cheek. Her eyes are light-green with yellow speckles, contoured by dark make-up. Despite her youthful appearance — a product of her elven heritage — she is over 40 years old.

She wears a silver circlet bearing Shar's holy symbol (a black disc) and an ornate hairpiece at the base of her ponytail. A black circular mark on her right hand, a wound given by Shar, causes her pain whenever she acts against her goddess's will.

After The Chosen of Shar: If she turns away from Shar, she dyes her hair silver and parts her fringe off-center. If she remains faithful, her hair stays black but is parted regardless.

    ---

    Personality

Zealously devoted, independent, and headstrong, Shadowheart favours pragmatic solutions, decisive action, and non-interference in others' affairs. Though initially guarded and reserved, this is partly a product of amnesia — she retains little memory of her own past. She does not tolerate slights against Shar and is willing to employ ruthlessness, duplicity, and killing to achieve her goals.

Beneath her Sharran conditioning, however, are traits that cut against her training: a fondness for flowers and animals, distaste for indiscriminate violence, a preference for peaceful resolutions when viable, and genuine sympathy for those around her. She shares Astarion's capacity for sarcasm and dark humour. When guided away from Shar, she becomes noticeably more open and emotionally honest.

    ---

    Approval & Disposition

    Shadowheart responds well to:

    • Pragmatic and efficient solutions
    • Discretion and respect for privacy
    • Acts of heroism or aid to the weak, weighed for usefulness
    • Deception and underhanded tactics in service of a goal
    • Open-mindedness toward Shar and actions done in her name

She occasionally looks favourably on torture and manipulation when results justify it.

    ---

    Personal Quest

Daughter of Darkness spans all three acts. Through it, Shadowheart uncovers fragments of her hidden history, re-examines her relationship with Shar, and determines her own future — whether to remain in the goddess's dark embrace or break free of her past.

    Three subquests tie into it:

    • The Chosen of Shar — her faith is put to the test
    • A Familiar Face — parts of her past surface
    • Surrender Shadowheart — the party weighs a treacherous proposition

    ---

    Romance

If the player character has learned Shadowheart cannot swim and holds 40 or more approval with her, she invites them for a private swim. The scene plays out differently depending on accessibility settings, culminating in an intimate moment on the beach.

Following her personal quest at the House of Grief, she brings the player character to a Selûnite statue. Her state there depends on what happened with her parents — grief if she killed them, tearful self-recrimination (met with reassurance) if she saved them. Either outcome allows the player to comfort her.

Later, she shares her hopes for the future: a rural cottage, a colourful garden, animals, and the player character beside her.

Once every single drop is wrung out, the soul is reborn as a lemure, a new member of infernal society.

46. #46Karlach

    Keys: Karlach

    Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

    Overview

Karlach is a romanceable companion found in The Risen Road, past the Blighted Village. A Zariel Tiefling Barbarian, she is a former warrior and champion of the archdevil Zariel, conscripted to fight in the Blood War on Avernus during the late 15th century DR. She can be romanced by characters of any gender.

    ---

    Appearance

Karlach is tall and battle-toned, her vermilion skin marked by scars, burns, and tattoos along her left arm, upper back, and parts of her abdomen. Small exhaust vents on her shoulders billow steam when her infernal engine heart flares — its pulsating heat-outline visible beneath her chest. Her left horn curves back and outward while the right is broken off near the base, a relic of her years in Avernus. She wears her dark-brown, reddish-accented hair long and mussed, with a few metal-disc braids falling along the right side of her neck. Her eyes are dark yellow with tiefling-slit pupils, and light moles and freckles mark her nose and upper cheeks.

Despite her imposing frame and scarred past, she has a soft, warm face and a magnetic smile — one that shifts quickly into an unsettling scowl when provoked.

    ---

    Personality

Karlach is kind, passionate, and determined to live life to the fullest. She speaks without filter and with open excitement about food, drink, friends, and intimacy. Her honesty can read as naivety, but beneath it is a sharp and fair judge of people and situations — when calm enough to apply it. She is fiercely protective of those close to her and takes a genuine interest in her companions.

She is also a deeply physical person with little hesitation about brawling if provoked. She can be impulsive and easy to goad, and loses reason when confronting those she despises. Years of isolation in Avernus — compounded by an infernal heart that prevents physical contact — have left her lonely. Her history with Gortash sits beneath a surface of rage as something closer to grief and betrayal, making her cautious about extending the trust she once gave freely.

Despite their moral differences, she gets along well with Astarion, bonded by a shared desire to live free of the shadows of their abusers.

    ---

    Background

Karlach served as a warrior and champion of Zariel, fighting in the Blood War — the eternal conflict between devils and demons in Avernus. She was not mere cannon fodder; Zariel had her heart replaced with an infernal engine, enhancing her physical capabilities and causing her body to burn with intense heat. She eventually escaped the Hells, and the game finds her fighting to stay free while managing the dangerous instability of her mechanical heart.

    ---

    Abilities

An exceptional martial combatant, Karlach developed encyclopedic knowledge of fiends and their weaknesses through years of fighting in Avernus. Her infernal engine heart further augments her physical prowess, though it also generates intense heat that prevents direct contact with others.

    ---

    Approval & Disposition

    Karlach approves of:

    • Kindness and protection of the weak, especially children
    • Bravery and daring action, provided the outcomes are genuinely good
    • Honesty and standing by friends in difficult moments
    • Harmless mischief
    • Wariness toward anything connected to the Hells

She values earnestness above strategy and responds strongly to compassion and solidarity.

    ---

    Romance

Karlach can be romanced by characters of any gender. Her infernal heart prevents physical contact, making her physical isolation a central thread of the romance — one that must be acknowledged and worked through together.
