"Undertale Yellow" is a fan-made prequel to Toby Fox's "Undertale," developed by Team UTY. Released in December 2023, the game explores the journey of Clover, a human child embodying the trait of "justice," who ventures into the Underground to investigate the disappearance of five previous human visitors.

The protagonist, Clover is the seventh human to fall into the Underground. Driven by curiosity and a sense of justice, they seek to uncover the fate of the missing humans. Clover is a human child of fair complexion and short brown hair. Official art portrays Clover with yellow eyes.
Appearance: Clover wears a brown long-sleeved t-shirt beneath a dark brown vest and dark blue pants, presumably denim, girded by a dark reddish-brown belt with a gold buckle. They wear a pair of brown shoes and a light brown cowboy hat with a dark brown hatband. Around their neck, Clover sports a yellow bandana with a blue dot pattern (though some official art depicts it as a checkered blue and yellow bandana).
Personality: While Clover is largely a silent protagonist (though much less so than Frisk), elements of their personality are shown or implied at several points. In notable contrast with Frisk, most dialogue options for Clover generally depict what Clover is actually saying, as opposed to Frisk where a choice would imply dialogue. The dialogue itself is actually quite interesting; there will often be exclamation marks or word choice that imply further personality. It seems that Clover is fairly nonchalant throughout their journey, It also seems notable that there will sometimes be just one dialogue choice for Clover, possibly indicating that Clover has stronger willpower than Frisk and that their desires can unknowingly supersede the will of the player (as of yet, the relationship between Clover and the player is ambiguous). This may indicate that Clover is less indecisive than Frisk and that the choices that Clover would canonically make within the world of Undertale Yellow are less numerous because Clover has more of a solid personality than Frisk does. There is also usually an option for silence for Clover, so dialogue options for Clover are even more limited than what one might think. Generally, Clover has a strong sense of justice and a drive to do what they perceive to be the right thing, with some variations depending on the route. It can also be inferred that Clover has a strong sense of humor, as many descriptions and dialogue options are somehow comedic or joking, an example being telling Flowey that their name is "Gun-Hat". Clover can also be shown to be largely selfless and sometimes very determined to achieve a particular goal. This is most strongly represented at the end of the Pacifist Route, where Clover gives up their SOUL to resolve the conflict between Ceroba, Martlet, and Starlo. Their soul is yellow, meaning JUSTICE.
Abilities: Unlike Frisk, Clover (for the majority of the game) does not have the highest amount of Determination in the Underground, so Flowey saves the game on their behalf. Their starting equipment is composed of the Toy Gun and the Worn Hat, which provide no changes to AT or DF and cannot be manually changed. Instead, they can be equipped with different kinds of ammunition or accessories respectively. In Undertale, getting the Yellow flag in the "Ball" game prompts the text that says "Your sure-fire accuracy put an end to the mayhem of 'Ball.'" This suggests that Clover has adequate experience with gunfire or ranged weapons, which is likely the reason for the fight mechanics having a target. Clover is also able to run if the X key is held, similarly to Deltarune's Kris. As manifested in the Pacifist fight against Ceroba, Clover has the power to fire attacks of their own during the enemy turn (as seen in 'yellow soul modes' during Undertale and Deltarune.) It appears to take on the mechanics found in Deltarune, with smaller bullets able to be fired to clear attacks along with larger, more powerful, charged attacks. Along with this, Clover also gains the ability to 'dash' through what would otherwise be unavoidable attacks. In Genocide, this power manifests as well, but in a much stronger form than during the Pacifist run. Clover's increased LV lets them replace their charged shots with a devastating charged beam. By the time Clover meets Asgore, the laser able to kill Asgore in only one shot, destroying the throne behind him and leaving a massive hole in the wall of the throne room. Finally, during a Neutral run, this power manifests once again during the fight against Flowey. Also seen in the Pacifist and Genocide fights, Clover has the ability to reach out and access monsters' memories. They use this against Ceroba in Pacifist each time they damage part of her mask, accessing her 'darkest memories' and learning the truth behind her motivation for their SOUL, as well as the truth behind Kanako's fate. In the Genocide route, they use this ability against Martlet, scanning her memories for a reason to hate her, and presumably also a justified reason to kill her. Unlike with the shoot and dash abilities, this does not appear in Neutral. Possibly growing resistance against the player - In the GENOCIDE ROUTE, Clover might grow in power and even resist control of the player through cutscenes (hinted), at the entrance of the Steamworks gate requiring a code, after killing Ceroba (boss fight) and Starlo in a gun duel or optionally going to the towns for their items. Flowey pops up out of the ground attempting to help Clover but in result of that, Flowey has no idea. Clover quickly draws out their "Wild Revolver" and shoots the passcode pad, without the control of the player. Causing the gate to malfunction and ultimately open itself. Flowey allows it as it just works on it's own. Later on, Clover heads inside there encountering a generator turned off and puzzles to solve from the left to the right to open the front gate. Clover straight up shoots the generator with clear impatience (that did not really work) and Clover walks to the front gate, pointing at the gate demanding Flowey to open the gate. Flowey states not being able to open it, but Clover pushes in, result of that Flowey uses their vines emitted from the ceiling to push the gate downwards. Flowey reminds Clover not to boss them around like that again reminded them about their SAVE FILE, and in response Clover just looks back staring at them.

A sentient flower who initially guides Clover through the Underground. His true intentions and complex nature unfold as the story progresses.
Appearance: Flowey's appearance is unchanged in Undertale Yellow: he is a sentient golden flower with six yellow petals, a white androecium, and a light-green stem. He can make a variety of facial expressions.
Personality: Flowey, unlike in Undertale, is nice to Clover and helps them, following them once they fell in the Dark Ruins. As Clover seemingly doesn't have enough determination like Frisk, Flowey owns their save file and saves the game for Clover. Flowey is also focused on getting you to Asgore, not wanting to bother with anyone else, as it disturbs his true goals of acquiring the human souls for himself. At the end of the Genocide Route, Flowey finally snaps at Clover for aiming to kill him and reveals that he actually always hated them, and only kept reviving them so he could gain satisfaction from watching them suffer over and over again.

A reclusive monster residing in the Dark Ruins. He is wary of outsiders but possesses valuable knowledge about the Underground's secrets.
Appearance: Dalv is a humanoid monster with a purple complexion, fangs, and horns. He wears a dark purple cloak with a hood that conceals his face. Excluding his horns, his appearance is similar to, if not based on, that of a vampire. He also wears a white medieval shirt beneath his cloak, as revealed in his overworld sprite if Clover spares him in a True Pacifist or Neutral Route.
Personality: Dalv is socially awkward and claims to desire solitude. He often monologues about how he sent the other monsters away and how he wonders if they ever really cared about him, and is consistently interrupted by Clover. Despite that, he later reveals that he does not actually want to be alone, but rather fears that any friends he makes will leave him behind the moment they grow tired of the Dark Ruins. When hanging out with Clover, he seems very happy to have a friend to talk to. His interests include writing and illustrating children's books, playing the organ, and growing vegetables (especially corn).
Abilities - Lightning Vertical: Lightnings strike vertically across the Bullet Board, previously warned about by exclamation marks. Lightning Dual: Like the previous attack, but lightnings strike both horizontally and vertically. Lightning Balls: Balls of lightning spawn in an arc above the Bullet Board, then start moving one by one toward the SOUL. Lightning Shift: Two horizontal lines appear around the SOUL, leaving some space inbetween, then move up and down on the Bullet Board. Lightning Spinner: Six lightning balls appear around the SOUL, then start spinning and moving across the Bullet Board. Lightning Bolt: Dalv opens his cloak and starts shooting lightning bolts from it that move towards the SOUL.

A member of the Royal Guard stationed in Snowdin Forest. She upholds her duties with a strong sense of responsibility and encounters Clover during their journey.
Appearance: Martlet is a blue anthropomorphic bird-like monster with two wings used as arms. She wears two yellow-ochre snow boots. She has a mop of hair on top of her head with flyaway stands and a feather-like tuft near the back. She wears a greyish blue sleeveless shirt and dark blue pants. When Martlet transforms with her serum, her eyes turn a glowing yellow, and her hair, wings, and legs become longer. Her hair drapes down more and is more wavy. She sports a breastplate with a heart design in the middle and shoulder pads fitted into the suit pointing up. Her boots disappear from her original design, with talons replacing them. Martlet's hair is also more elegantly displayed, with the outlying motif from her original hair style being accentuated.
Personality: While she seems a bit naive on the surface, what Martlet makes up for in her disorganized workflow is her strong morale. As shown in the Genocide Route, Martlet has a strong sense of justice, and is more serious compared to her Pacifist counterpart. She even runs away from her initial battle via a tactical retreat, and monitors Clover for most of the game. She will go to great lengths to put a stop to anyone trying to harm monsterkind, including injecting herself with a fabricated serum, just so she can have the power to put an end to Clover’s killing spree, no matter the cost.
Abilities - (Pacifist Route) Feather Fall: Feathers fall from the bullet board, targeting the SOUL at some point during the fall. Package: Packages are thrown from the left or right of the board. After they hit the ground, they break and release several random items. Feather Circle: Feathers circle the SOUL, targeting it one after each other. Feather Spiral: Exclamation marks appear on the Bullet Board, and then feathers move through these parts of the board in a spiral pattern. Feather Flow: Feathers enter the Bullet Board from various sides, moving from one side to another. Wing Gust: A carousel of feathers circles the Bullet Board. Tornado: Random items start falling from the top of the Bullet Board, with some bouncing off the bottom. (Genocide Route “Snowdin“) Feather Fall: Feathers fall from the bullet board, targeting the SOUL at some point during the fall, when they reach the target they spit into 4 smaller feathers. Package: Packages are thrown from the left or right of the board faster than normal. After they hit the ground, they break and release several bigger random items. Feather Circle: Feathers circle the SOUL, targeting it in random order and splitting into 4 projectiles when reaching the target. Feather Flow: Feathers enter the Bullet Board from various sides, moving from one side to another, when reaching a certain point they will explode into 3 smaller feathers. Feather Spiral: Exclamation marks appear on the Bullet Board, and then bigger feathers move through these parts of the board in a spiral pattern spawning much faster. Tornado: More random items start falling faster from the top of the Bullet Board, with some bouncing off the bottom. Feather Barrage: A carousel of feathers circles the Bullet Board, then 3 feathers go inward and outward while spinning, after targets that targets the player will appear one after another splitting into 4 small feathers after a second. The sheriff of the Wild East, Starlo is known for his dedication to maintaining peace and order in his region. He shares a deep bond with Ceroba.
Appearance: Starlo is a humanoid monster. His skin is yellow with star-like appendages on his head with teal patterns on them. He wears a brown poncho with teal stripes with his sheriff badge on it; a dark brown ten-gallon hat; brown pants, and black boots with spurs. Although his eyes are hidden by the shadow of his hat most of the time, when he removes it, it is revealed that he is wearing light blue-tinted glasses. Starlo also wields a silver revolver.
Personality: Starlo's true personality is superseded most of the time by a Western persona. Borne out of a fanaticism of Wild Western culture, Starlo puts on this persona from a desire to spread excitement and drama to the inhabitants of the Underground - distracting them from the cruel reality of monsterkind's collective banishment from the Surface. Going by the moniker of "North Star," he plays the role of the Wild East's upbeat sheriff, who is determined to "keep the peace" by any means necessary. This for the most part is all drama, as there is no real danger (besides potentially Clover) and is all put on as a fun distraction for the Dunes' inhabitants, who all seem to play along.
While displaying his "North Star" persona, Starlo has been shown to value validation from others. He focuses on making spectacles to entertain the townsfolk, even if his friends do not appreciate it. This is also the reason he eventually attacks Clover; to be revered by the entire Underground.
Starlo's true personality is revealed after his boss fight in the Pacifist Route. He is shown to be much more of a nerd - a picture in his home revealing he was even adorned with stereotypical dweeb braces at one point. As such, his room is filled with various Western memorabilia from the Surface and even contains glowy sticker stars. Despite this, however, one thing that is constant between "North Star" and Starlo is his kindness and how he values those close to him. In fact, this is the whole reason the "North Star" persona exists in the first place.
Attacks: A single gun targets the player's current elevation. This is only used in the intro. Guns continuously shoot in a straight line at the SOUL. Dynamite is thrown down from either side of the bullet board, exploding into a shockwave. A horseshoe surrounds the SOUL and starts spinning counter-clockwise. Blue and orange soundwaves ring out from a bell at the top of the board. Starlo shoots three bottles. Upon being broken, five shards rain down from the top of the board. Trains drive across train tracks appearing in the background. Starlo wields his gun and shoots bullets at the location of the player's SOUL.

A scientist and the wife of the late Chujin. She is driven by personal motives, especially concerning her daughter Kanako's condition.
Appearance: Ceroba is a fox-like monster with beige fur and long, wavy ginger hair. Her hair is tied up in a ponytail by a red ribbon with a small gold bell in the centre. She has a long, white kimono with red trimmings; a red obi sash tied around her waist and white boots. During her battle phases, she carries a long red staff with a bright yellow bell at the end two little red ribbons tied around the ends of the bell. In the Pacifist Route battle, she wears the Kitsune mask made by Kanako, consisting of two dark eye sockets that receive bright red dots in the final phase, with pink dyes. Her hair becomes more voluminous, resembling tails with pink shine. Additionally, she wears a cloak that is shown in concept art to be yellowish-white with pink edges. Her attacks in the overworld are represented as white and pink flashes of light.
Personality: Brilliant, supportive and skeptical, Ceroba is a powerful ally when it comes to wanting to help those closest to her. She is shown to care a lot for her loved ones. However, she is highly stubborn, even going so far as to question the true meaning of Asgore's words when confronted with the truth of her husband's employment. Because of this, she is firm on her husband's legacy as a scientist and a hero of the underground, and she spends the days after her husband's passing trying to complete the work that he had passed down to her. However, when she finally tests it on Kanako and has it result in her falling down, Ceroba's beliefs strengthen to the point that she is fully willing to kill Clover to save the rest of the underground. Ceroba is observant, and can tell how others are feeling just by a glance, and can also notice a shift or change in the other's moods. Though she is not hesitant to say them to others, she will try to hide them from those she loves as long as it does not harm others. An example of this is her relationship with Starlo, and she didn't confront him about his behavior until after his friends had come up about how it was making the rest of them feel. She is quite honest and straight-forward as well. This is evident from how she treats Starlo's shenanigans in the Wild East, saying she doesn't understand it and acting nonchalant when included in them, as well as her realistic assessment of Clover's fate before and after her battle in the Pacifist route. The exception to her realism is her husband, Chujin, who she always holds in high regard no matter what information is displayed to her that may say otherwise.
Abilities/Attacks: (Phase 1) Energy Spheres: Tiny balls of light would come up from the bottom of the screen in a pattern; the player should try to remember it as this is the same pattern they will fall in later. Once they hit the bottom of the screen, the balls will shatter, and little shards will fall out of them and towards the player center, where they crashed. Flower wall: in a random pattern, walls of flowers will come from either side of the screen with a little hole in each. Be careful, as some patterns will lead the player right towards the next one. Cherry Blossoms: Cherry blossom petals will start flying around the screen, with a massive pile itching towards the top of the box, forcing the player to go up with it. Cherry Blossom Blasters: Flowers appear randomly on either side of the screen and shoot tiny flowers at the player in a pattern. Paralyzing white diamonds are formed right where the player last stood, and if hit, they are forced to stay still for a few seconds. Spherical Flower Bombs: Flowers will start to form a circle-like pattern around the player while closing in. Once completely closed, it will create an explosion that will damage the player if they are too close to it. Bell Bombs: Giant bells will come onto the screen and bounce onto the left side. Once out, they will explode into blue or orange rays that the player must dodge accordingly. Black Hole: A mini black hole is in the center of the screen and will cause the player to be pulled towards it. While trying to move away from it, the player must also dodge mini flower petals slowly itching toward it. Temple Ruins: Blasts of energy, similar to those in the first attack, go to the top of the screen in a pattern with two temples on the ends. Once they collide with the mini temples, they will explode into mini shards that the player must dodge. Staff Attack: Two versions of her staff will go across the screen in a diagonal pattern. They will then turn orange and spin in a circle in opposite directions of one another. After they return to a standard white, a cherry blossom blaster from the third attack will return to shoot at the left side Final Attack: The energy spheres form at all four sides of the screen and start to spin around it; once they close in, they create an explosion with little shards at the top falling. As they fall, a white diamond will form near the player in hopes of capturing them. The box becomes smaller, and Ceroba starts to hit the player, though Clover's health bar keeps expanding with each hit that they take. Ceroba then tries to hit them with one final blast, though the player shoots it back at her, causing Ceroba to fall back and transform into her next phase. (Phase 2) Diamond Shield: A shield will form around the Ceroba's body. Throughout the battle, if the player keeps shooting at it, the red covering will slowly start to cover it until it eventually turns into the last attack of the phase. Shooting at it is the only way to progress in the battle from now on. First Attack: After transforming, she will shoot a series of fireball attacks at the player, each different from the last. Kitsune Masks: Kitsune masks will form the left and right sides of the screen, with fireballs coming from behind them. They will then sprawl out in a circle motion, with the player having to dodge them both. Fireball Lineup: The box will then shrink, fireballs coming from the top on either the left or right side of the area. The player must dodge these as they come through while shooting the masks that remain in the open areas. Spherical Flower Bombs (2): Similar to the ones in the beginning, though this time they will only appear in the same spot every time, no matter where the player is. During this, Ceroba will slam the player to the bottom and form the same circle again, though this time there is no exit. As they close in, Clover learns how to dash through them and nearly escapes. Chochin Bullets: Chochin lanterns start to appear at random points on top of the screen and start to shoot fireball bullets at the player. Chochin Bullets (2): Chochin lanterns will start to appear and spin around the screen in a circular motion. They start to shoot at the player with the same fire bullets, with them slowly covering the screen throughout the shooting. Bombs: Bombs will start to drop from on top of the screen, and upon shooting at them (or letting them hit the floor), they will burst either orange or blue rays that cover up the screen. Fireball Lineup (2): A larger version of a fireball lineup appears, with the player having to shoot at the masks that appear in the free spots. Shimenawa: A large Kitsune mask will cover the top portion of the screen, with mini Chochin floating around and shooting fireballs. The Shimenawa ropes from the mask start to move to either side, causing the player to stay there until the mask gets shot down. Fire-Bells: On the diamond, white bells start to appear on all of the corners, and each time one is shot down, they will shoot a white ring all across the screen. Mini fireballs start to appear all over in large intervals. This attack repeats until the last bell is hit, and the screen fades to a flashback. Shooting at Ceroba: Appears in the same move as the Fire-Bells, you have to shoot at her mask until it breaks. (Phase 3) Diamond Shield: A shield will form around the Ceroba's body. Throughout the battle, if the player keeps shooting at it, the red covering will slowly start to cover it until it eventually turns into the last attack of the phase. Shooting at it is the only way to progress in the battle for now on. Bombs with Diamonds: The same bombs will start to form around the screen, though this time the paralyzing diamonds will form around the player as well. Fireball Kitsune (2): Same attack from the original Kitsune masks, though this time Kitsune masks with rings of fire surrounding them with float around the screen as well. Fireball Kitsune (2): A Kitsune mask will spin around in a circle with a ring of white bullets surrounding it, as the other Kitsune mask from before floats around with fire bullets. Fireball Kitsune with Bombs: The same Kitsune mask attack will appear again, with bombs dropping all around the player at a more rapid rate. Kitsune Hell Fire: The player spawns in the middle of the Kitsune mask ring, with Kitsune masks from all directions rapidly shooting fireballs toward the player. After this move, all attacks repeat from the former phase of the battle. (Final Phase) First Attack: After transforming, she will shoot a series of fireball attacks at the player, each different from the last. Fire Projectiles: After transforming, the player will be hit with several fireball projectiles from her staff. Each one aims for the player directly and can come from any direction on the top of the screen. Fire Shower: As she twirls around, a large wave of fireballs covers the screen. When she slams her staff into the ground, two large waves of fire will shoot from the ground and cover the left and right-hand sides of the screen, causing the player to have to dash through the attacks to remain undamaged. Fire Shower w/ Paralyzing Diamonds: Multiple fire showers will pop up from the bottom of the screen, with the player having to move to dodge them. During all of this, paralyzing diamonds will form where the player is and if hit, will cause the player to stay still and potentially get hit. Kitsune masks will start to form all around the screen, shooting fireballs at the player. Fire Shower w/ Kitsune Masks: Like the last attack, multiple fire showers will appear from at the bottom of the screen whilst the Kitsune masks shoot fireballs from any direction. During this, spherical flower bombs will appear again to form all around the player. Fire Shower w/ Kitsune Masks (2): The player will be spawned in the middle of a Kitsune ring, with a fire shower coming up right in the middle of it. After shooting out of it, multiple other fire showers will appear as Chochin starts shooting bullets from the top. Chochin Bullets w/ Spherical Flower Bombs: Inescapable rings will start to form around the player, while bombs start to drop all around them. During all of this, the Chochins start to shoot down at the player from all directions.

A hostile robot residing in the Steamworks. Axis presents a significant challenge to Clover as they navigate this industrial area.
Appearance: Axis is a gray, metallic robot with a large box-shaped head, a round torso, and a single leg with a wheel on the bottom. His head has two pink, unevenly sized eyes and a horizontal line of four bolts or holes resembling a mouth on the front, a vertical antenna ending with a round lightbulb on each side, and a lightbulb and a curled exhaust pipe on the top. His torso has a black heart symbol on the front with four bolts or holes surrounding it, another four bolts or holes in the same arrangement on the back, a light peach-colored gear sticking out the right side, and an exhaust pipe sticking out sideways from each shoulder. His hands wear light peach-colored gloves hover independently of his body, though his shoulder pipes emit smoke clouds that float into his wrists, implying a connection.
Personality: Axis is very persistent when it comes to guarding the Steamworks. Once he catches sight of an intruder, he becomes single-minded in his pursuit of them. Despite his physical agility, his effectiveness as a guardian is greatly hampered by his gullibility and slow wit. He inadvertently allows Clover and Ceroba to escape his capture several times, and easily falls for obvious tricks.
Though he may seem an unsophisticated robot, Axis is a sentient being shown to experience intense, complex emotions. He is short-tempered, easily flustered, and evidently quite foul-mouthed (though his swearing is replaced with milder language by what appears to be a profanity filter). He is also capable of experiencing love; when presented with a 'companion robot' Clover and Ceroba built to distract him with, he becomes besotted with it and declares it his spouse. He also greatly misses Chujin, for his late creator was kind to him. In the Genocide Route, Axis expresses remorse over killing the previous fallen human.
Attacks: A single ball of energy that comes in a straight line and is used solely and exclusively in the first turn. Energy balls zigzag around the Bullet Board, forcing the SOUL to move from left to right to defend itself. After the first battery loss, Axis' hand grabs the SOUL and places it in the center of the Bullet Board, forcing the player to defend himself from energy balls that come from random directions. If all were defended, it will be the last attack used before Axis charges his red return attack. Axis's hands shot a laser that shoots towards the SOUL in a clockwise direction, before changing direction, after a red exclamation mark beeps. After the second battery loss, a blue line moves across the Bullet Board from left to right as energy balls fall in a straight line. In the middle of Bullet Board, the SOUL needs to defend itself from energy balls while a orange line moves horizontally. While the SOUL is in the deep of Bullet Board, steam attacks rise, with vacant areas ranging between left, middle and right. Happens after the third battery loss. Bombs fall from right and from left, exploding after the SOUL defend itself from them. After the fourth battery loss, Axis summons two generators, leaving him immune to physical attacks. His first attack is to launch energy balls from above while a cross-shaped energy line rotates counterclockwise, having blue and orange in straight line crossing each other. The bombs rotate in different directions to hit the SOUL, which is in the center. After the first generator is destroyed, six balls of energy surround the SOUL and advance towards it, one at a time. The one that will move forward always flashes red. Triggers shoot the SOUL with multiple bullets, coming from random directions. Their location is previously announced by glows, but when they appear, they advance in random directions. The same attack comes after destroying the second generator, but in greater proportion. Balls of energy emerge from random directions to hit the SOUL in the center. Multiple blue lines pass through the Bullet Board in this attack. When hit again, Axis surrounds the protagonist with several balls of energy that advance slowly, making defense easier. The last attack before Axis's last returnable attack: Trigger surrounds the SOUL, and one of them shoots multiples bullets. The one that will shoot will always vibrate beforehand.
