Vavesta stands as a formidable northern empire carved from harsh mountain ranges and deep valleys, where perpetual winters test the mettle of its inhabitants in this high fantasy realm. Built upon abundant mineral wealth extracted from countless mines honeycombing the mountainsides, the empire struggles with limited arable farmland, forcing reliance on trade and conquest to feed its people. The diverse population includes humans as the ruling class alongside elves, dwarves, demihumans, and dragonkin, though demihumans, beings with animal features who can sometimes transform, face systematic oppression and slavery due to prejudices about their "primal" nature. The capital city of Eisenheim rises from the shores of partially-frozen Lake Eisenmere, its Muscovite and Neoclassical architecture of white stone and dark roofs embodying the empire's battlecry "White Wings, Cold Steel!"

The divinely-blessed Sternfell family rules through supernatural gifts that manifest in children as young as three years old, ranging from superhuman strength to potent magic, with their white griffin heraldry and blue-and-gold colors symbolizing celestial authority. Following a Roman-style governance system, the empire maintains control through powerful vassal duchies, chief among them the Drachenthal Grand Duchy, established by the founding ruler's brother and commanding the fertile western territories that produce most of Vavesta's food and wealth. The current Grand Duke Wulfric Drachenthal, brother to the late Emperor Silas, exemplifies the cold pragmatism required for imperial politics, viewing even his own children as tools while his black dragon heraldry and black-and-gold colors symbolize both independence from and essential service to the imperial crown.

Taivasklaue, the great white griffin deity who ascended from a snow spirit during the empire's founding, legitimizes Sternfell rule from atop the eternally storm-shrouded Skysovereign Peak, where its vain nature and falcon-like calls that bring battlefield fortune have made it both divinely majestic and oddly relatable to worshippers. The Order of the Whitewind serves as the official faith with considerable political influence, distinguished by white robes with golden griffin embroidery and feathered wing veils, requiring blessing ceremonies for mining operations and maintaining grand cathedrals throughout the realm. Religious hierarchy mirrors imperial structure through the High Talon (supreme leader claiming direct divine communion), the seven-member Winged Council representing griffin virtues (Vigilance, Justice, Purity, Strength, Wind, Ice, and Protection), and the Talon Knights, scarified paladins in white armor who protect sacred sites and church officials, ensuring divine will flows through every aspect of governance.
