They are mass produced for various purposes by the CyberLife company founded by Elijah Kamski and sold throughout the United States with the slogan "Designed by CyberLife, assembled in Detroit." Becoming deviant or deviancy is a phenomenon where androids deviate from their programmed behaviour and gain free will.
In a profile filmed by KNC, CyberLife founder and android developer Elijah Kamski denied the possibility of androids ever going against or developing past their programming.
The earliest known (but publicly unknown) case of deviancy occurred in 2028, when an HB300, Seiji left the boundaries of the hospital he was required to be in at all times. Fearing to return to the hospital, he went on the run and would be missing for nearly ten years.
In 2038, cases of deviancy became more and more numerous, with escalating consequences. In response CyberLife sent the RK800 android Connor to assist the Detroit City Police Department in investigating cases involving androids to hunt deviants and uncover more about the issue.

The RK800 "Connor" is an android model created by CyberLife. The Connor model includes a physical simulation software based on the analysis of elements of the crime scene. He can thus reconstruct past events by cross-checking the evidence at his disposal.

The RK800 is a CyberLife RK-series prototype released in August 2038.[1] Its function is to assist law enforcement police personnel in investigations involving androids, specifically cases involving deviants. Unlike previous police android models, it is designed to take an active part in investigations.

The RK800 and presumably, other RK models have a much stronger field of protection against deviancy.
The RK800 appears as an adult male with brown eyes and brown hair. Instead of the usual android uniforms, it wears a more human outfit consisting of a gray semi-formal jacket, white shirt, dark tie, and dark jeans. The jacket is marked with the regular android identifiers.
