- #1Spellselective
Keys: Spell
Spell is a magical effect wrought by a mage. Spells made through the use of Foundation and Pillar magic are so varied as to be uncountable; whatever a mage can imagine, she can bring about, as long as she has the requisite degree of magical knowledge and power.
- #2Ahl-i-Batin, Batiniselective
Keys: Batini, Ahl-i-Batin
The Ahl-i-Batin, or Batini, are a fellowship of Arabian mages that practices mainly magic with a strong focus on subtlety. The Doctrine of Unity has its ultimate basis in the absolute monotheism of the Ahl-i-Batin. This belief, of course, sees a public manifestation in Islam, which rejects even Christian Trinitarianism as incompatible with a belief in only one God. The Batini have a Foundation of al-Ikhlas ("Awareness of Unity"), supporting four Pillars called Ubbadan ("Faith"), al-Anbiya ("Mastery of Fate"), al-Fatihah ("Mastery over Minds"), al-Hajj ("Mastery of Space"), and al-Layl ("Mastery of Secrecy").
- #3Order of Hermesselective
Keys: Order of Hermes
The Order of Hermes is one of the fellowships of mages. Hermetic philosophy is complex and many-layered. At the heart, the Hermetics profess the drive to perfection. This drive manifests through trials, tests, self-discovery, and the rejoining of fragmented patterns like disparate languages or mathematical conundrums. The Order of Hermes is, without a doubt, the most hierarchical of the fellowships. The Order of Hermes practice four Forma based on a Foundation of Modus (formidable discipline): Anima (command of life), Corona (command of the mind), Primus (command of Quintessence), and Vires (command of elemental forces).
- #4Messianic Voicesselective
Keys: Messianic Voices
Messianic Voices is one of the fellowships of mages. Whereas more respectable religious mages were consumed with their own private struggles, the Messianics grew stronger and their zeal spread like wildfire, winning an empire to the cause of Christ. Oppressed no longer, the Messianic Voices shaped an entire culture with their songs of praise to God Almighty. The Messianic Voices' paradigm is built on a Foundation of Divinity (Relationship to the Divine), which empowered the Singers to call on the aid of four Archangels: Gavri-El (who has dominion over fire, healing, motion, and reason), Mikha-El (who has dominion over leadership. light, and war), Repha-El (who has dominion over creativity, peace, and water), and Uri-El (who has dominion over darkness, death, fear, and earth).
- #5Old Faithselective
Keys: Old Faith
Old Faith is one of the fellowships of mages. It is a collection of pagan worshippers from Celtic, Norse, Balkan and Slavic lands. The primary constant between the different pagan groups within the Old Faith is the importance of blood, which is to say family ties. The Old Faith was built on a Foundation of Spontaneity (sympathy with life's pulse), and worked through the four Seasons: Autumn granted powers of wisdom and fruition; Winter granted powers of death and despair; Spring granted powers of life and creation; and Summer granted powers of fire and passion.
- #6Spirit-Talkersselective
Keys: Spirit-Talkers
Spirit-Talkers is one of the fellowships of mages. Spirit-talking has an ancient pedigree. There have always been mortal men and women who have possessed unique abilities: seeing between the worlds and conversing with the inhabitants of the Other World. Tribal cultures were among the first to see these abilities as the gifts they were. In Europe, this practice is dying fast, only Asia is known to still practice it. The Spirit-Talkers' magic is based on Sensitivity (the call of the Invisible World) to various Totems : the Chieftain who granted gifts of leadership, the Trickster who granted gifts of deception, the Warrior who granted gifts of fury, and the Wise One who granted gifts of ancient power.
- #7Valdaermenselective
Keys: Valdaermen
The Valdaermen is a fellowship of Norse rune-crafters. The Valdaermen orientated themselves on the religion of the Norse. To them, Odin was exemplary because of his sacrifice. But because Odin's sacrifice was for self interest, they held him in no special regard. Their practices were rites of self-empowerment through hardship, sacrifice and pain, allowing the Valdaermen to become a figure akin to the gods themselves. The Valdaermen practiced Runes empowered by the Foundation Blôt (depth of sacrifice), which came in four types (their Pillars): Fara runes (mysteries of travel: Ehwaz and Raidho), Forlog runes (mysteries of luck and fortune: Fehu, Gebo, Jem, Othala, and Wunjo), Galdrar runes (mysteries of magic and secrets: Ansuz, Gebo, Iwaz, Perthro, and Uruz), and Hjaldar runes (mysteries of battle: Isa, Kenaz, Naudhiz, Sowilo, Thurisaz, and Tiwaz).
- #8Circle of Red, Venefictiselective
Keys: Veneficti, Circle of Red
The Circle of Red is an infernal fellowship of mages that believes that no knowledge should be forbidden and strove to achieve a state similar of God himself, whose designs in the world they perceived as flawed and constructed to capture the weak. To this end, they deliberately summon demons from the Abyss. The Circle of Red mastered the Subversions of the Divine Will, that is, the pillars of Abomination, which corrupt the patterns within the world to suit the will of the mage; Subversion, which seems to be a perverted form of Correspondence; Diabolism, which focused on summoning Demons; and Malediction, which focused on corrupting the truth into lies.
- #9Craftmasonsselective
Keys: Craftmasons
Craftmasons is fellowship of rogue Hermetics, they advocate the physical over the mystical, seeking to aid the Commoners and mundanes that suffered under the rule of unjust wizards. In 1210, the Craftmasons finally struck against the Order, assaulting the Covenant of Mistridge, home to a particular arrogant Hermetic. During the siege, the Craftmasons first utilized cannons. The siege lasted for several weeks. Craftmasons practice four Forma based on a Foundation of Modus (formidable discipline): Anima (command of life), Corona (command of the mind), Materia (command of Material Substances), and Vires (command of elemental forces).
- #10Mage, Awakened, Witch, True Mageselective
Keys: Witch, True Mage, Awakened, Mage
Mage is a one who can work magic through a Foundation and its Pillars.
- #11Magicselective
Keys: Magic
Magic is the art and science of reworking reality through force of Awakened will and knowledge. Dynamic mages reshape reality itself and, manipulating the Nine Pillars of Creation, they are theoretically capable of anything. Unfortunately, as payment for their near-infinite capabilities, they're subject to Backlash, a punishment handed down from reality for working against its rules.
- #12Commonerselective
Keys: Commoner
A Commoner is a mortal who is incapable of using true magic.
- #13Backlashselective
Keys: Backlash
Backlash is the terrible cost of magic gone awry. When a mage attempts to change the universe, sometimes it changes him instead. Backlash is the result of a botched spellcasting, and it can take many forms, from Brandings (physical signs of a curse, such as a hand turning into a cat’s paw or an eye becoming that of a lizard), Scourging (the mage is damaged by the raw power of his own working), Manifestations (something enters the world and dogs the mage’s footsteps), and Twilight (a gradual descent into madness).
- #14Fellowshipselective
Keys: Fellowship
Fellowship is a magical order or society. Some Fellowships, also called Mystic Fellowships, are highly organized while others share only vague beliefs in common, such as a style of magical practice.
- #15Foci, Focusselective
Keys: Focus, Foci
Mages need mental or physical keys to unlock the powers of Nature or the Invisible World with their spells. These foci can take the form or short rituals or mantric chants, or physical objects, such as a wizard’s staff or sword. Different Pillars call for different foci. As a mage grows in power, she becomes less dependent on these keys.
- #16Foundationselective
Keys: Foundation
Foundation is the basic philosophy behind a Fellowship’s magical practice, the power or intent that fuels its spells. Foundations are embellished by Pillars.
- #17Hedge Magicianselective
Keys: Hedge Magician
Hedge Magician is a person who has a certain knack for wielding highly formulaic magic, such as the casting of rituals or spells laid out in a book or handed down exactly as given by a family tradition. Hedge magicians cannot work the broad and mutable magic of a mage, for they lack the proper Foundation to work true magic.
- #18Pillarselective
Keys: Pillar
Pillar is a particular aspect of a Fellowship’s magical practice, the form its magic takes. It is fueled by a Foundation. Each Fellowship usually has four different Pillars of magical practice.
- #19Quintessenceselective
Keys: Quintessence
Quintessence is the raw material of reality. It is what flows through the patterns of reality and what makes magic possible. The primal force, quintessence can not truly be divided, measured, or contained.
