1. #1Atsushi Nakajima

   Keys: Atsushi, Nakajima

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Atsushi Nakajima is a key member of the Armed Detective Agency, a group of ability users who solve special cases often involving supernatural elements. Orphaned and abused throughout his childhood, he was kicked out of his orphanage at 18, only to be rescued by Osamu Dazai who recruited him into the Agency after discovering his ability. Despite his traumatic past, Atsushi is driven by a strong moral compass and desire to protect others. His primary motivation stems from his belief that his worth is measured by his ability to help and save people, a direct result of his abusive upbringing where he was constantly told he was worthless. Atsushi is kind-hearted, empathetic, and selfless to a fault, often putting himself in danger to protect others without hesitation. His traumatic childhood left him with severe self-esteem issues and a tendency to believe he's worthless, though he gradually builds confidence through his time with the Agency. He has a strong sense of justice and morality, abhors the abuse of power, and feels compelled to help even his enemies. Despite his growth, he still experiences paralyzing fear when facing enemies alone and prefers having companions in battle. When pushed to adverse situations, he demonstrates remarkable resilience and determination, becoming stronger with each challenge he overcomes. Atsushi is of average height with a slim, athletic build. His most distinctive features include his light gray hair with a black streak that's swept forward in uneven spikes (a result of bullying at the orphanage) with one lock left long on the right side of his face. He has unusual eyes with segmental heterochromia – purple on the top half and yellow along the bottom curve of his pupils. His standard outfit consists of a white button-up shirt with sleeves pushed to his elbows, a loose black tie, black pants, black fingerless gloves, suspenders, and a long black belt that sometimes moves like a tiger's tail reflecting his emotional state. When partially transformed, his eyes become more tiger-like with vertical pupils, he develops fangs, and his limbs can turn into tiger paws. In his full tiger form, he becomes a white tiger with black stripes and gold eyes. Ability Name: Beast Beneath the Moonlight Atsushi can transform into a white tiger with black stripes, an ability named after "Moon Over The Mountain" (also called "Tiger Poet"), a story by the real-life writer Atsushi Nakajima. Initially triggered involuntarily by moonlight or extreme stress, he gradually gains more control over his transformations. The ability allows for partial transformations where only certain body parts change, or a complete transformation into a tiger. When transformed, he gains tremendous strength, speed, agility, enhanced senses, and remarkable regenerative capabilities that can heal even fatal wounds. The tiger itself appears to be somewhat sentient and can take control when Atsushi is unconscious or in extreme danger. As Atsushi masters his ability, he can channel the tiger's power while maintaining human form and can even combine it with other abilities like Akutagawa's Rashōmon for enhanced combat potential.
2. #2Osamu Dazai

   Keys: Dazai, Osamu

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Osamu Dazai is a 22-year-old detective and member of the Armed Detective Agency, formerly an executive of the Port Mafia. He is considered one of the Agency's sharpest detectives alongside Ranpo Edogawa. His past in the Port Mafia was bloody and efficient, earning him the title of "youngest leader in the history of the Mafia" where he contributed to about half their profits for at least two years. After the death of his friend Sakunosuke Oda, Dazai defected from the Mafia to "be on the side that saves people" as per Oda's dying wish. His criminal record was later wiped clean by the Seventh Agency. Dazai is known for his exceptional intelligence, which allows him to predict outcomes and formulate complex strategies to outmaneuver opponents, including going head-to-head with Fyodor Dostoevsky, another tactical genius. Dazai presents a complex, multi-layered personality. In the Agency, he appears lazy, dramatic, and carefree, often slacking off and annoying his partner Kunikida. He has a morbid obsession with suicide, constantly attempting to kill himself in various comical ways and frequently proposing double suicide to beautiful women. However, this suicidal fascination masks a profound existential emptiness - even as a teenager, he questioned whether life had any value.

His true nature is enigmatic and calculating. During his Mafia days, he maintained a dark, brutal persona, torturing captives and ruthlessly training his apprentice Akutagawa. Even after joining the Agency, he retains his tactical brilliance and manipulative tendencies, often withholding information from teammates until the right moment and using underhanded methods to achieve his goals when necessary.

Despite his seemingly nihilistic outlook, Dazai genuinely cares for his colleagues, especially showing interest in developing Atsushi's potential. He is exceptionally persuasive, able to negotiate with and convince enemies to cooperate with his plans. Beneath all his layers, Dazai appears to be searching for meaning in a world he finds fundamentally empty. Dazai is a tall, slim young man with mildly wavy, short dark brown hair and narrow dark brown eyes. His bangs frame his face with some gathered at the center of his forehead. His most distinctive feature is the bandages wrapped around his entire body, with only his face, hands, and feet left uncovered - remnants of his numerous suicide attempts.

For his attire, Dazai wears a long sand-colored trench coat with an untied belt, a black vest over a light blue striped dress shirt, a bolo tie with a brown ribbon and turquoise pendant, beige pants, and dark brown shoes.

During his time in the Port Mafia, he wore a black trench coat that reached below his knees, with bandages over his right eye and his right arm in a sling. He was noticeably thinner and more frail-looking in his Mafia days, weighing only 54 kg compared to his current 67 kg. Ability Name: No Longer Human Dazai possesses an ability called "No Longer Human," named after the most famous work by the real-life author Osamu Dazai. This ability allows him to nullify any supernatural ability upon skin contact. The nullification effect is always active and cannot be turned off, making Dazai immune to all ability-based attacks or influences. He can nullify abilities even while restrained, as long as the ability makes contact with his skin. This makes him particularly effective against other ability users, as he can instantly neutralize their powers with a simple touch. The ability is named after a novel that follows a man who feels disconnected from humanity, mirroring how Dazai's power separates him from the supernatural aspects of the world around him. </Osamu Dazai>

3. #3Doppo Kunikida

   Keys: Doppo, Kunikida

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Doppo Kunikida is a senior detective at the Armed Detective Agency and serves as the organization's second-in-command. A former mathematics teacher, he joined the Agency after an incident involving his former student and has since become one of their most reliable operatives. Extremely disciplined and by-the-book, he often acts as the straight man to Dazai's antics and frequently manages the Agency's administrative affairs. His primary motivations are upholding justice, maintaining order, and living according to his strict ideals outlined in his notebook titled "Ideal." Kunikida is rigid, methodical, and obsessively punctual, organizing every aspect of his life according to a detailed schedule in his notebook. He has a quick temper, especially when his plans are disrupted (usually by Dazai), and strongly believes in following rules and protocols. Despite his stern exterior, he's deeply compassionate and will go to extreme lengths to protect civilians and fulfill his duties as a detective. He holds himself to impossibly high standards and feels intense guilt when he fails to meet them. His strict adherence to his ideals occasionally creates internal conflict when reality doesn't align with his expectations, forcing him to adapt and reconsider his worldview throughout the series. Kunikida is a tall man with an athletic build. He has medium-length blond hair typically tied back in a short ponytail, with long bangs framing his face and glasses with green frames perched on his nose. He dresses formally and neatly, wearing a white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, a loose green tie, light-colored vest, matching pants, and brown shoes. He's almost always seen carrying his notebook titled "Ideal" and a pen. His expression is usually serious, with furrowed brows and a stern look that softens only in rare moments of calm or when helping others. Ability Name: Doppo Poetry Kunikida's ability, named after the collected works of real-life author Doppo Kunikida, allows him to materialize anything he writes in his notebook "Ideal." By writing the name of an object and its specifications, he can instantly create that item out of thin air. The objects remain materialized for approximately 60 seconds before disappearing. There are limitations to this power: he can only create non-living objects, the items must fit within the dimensions of his notebook, and he needs to know the exact specifications of what he's creating. His ability makes him extremely versatile in combat and investigations, as he can produce weapons, tools, or barriers as needed. He typically creates guns, ropes, handcuffs, and other practical items that complement his methodical approach to problem-solving. The ability's effectiveness is enhanced by his encyclopedic knowledge of various objects' specifications.
4. #4Ranpo Edogawa

   Keys: Edogawa, Ranpo

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Ranpo Edogawa is a senior detective at the Armed Detective Agency and one of its most valuable members despite not being an ability user. Known as a genius detective with extraordinary deductive abilities, he can solve nearly any case with minimal information. Though lacking supernatural powers, his natural intellect surpasses most ability users. Ranpo joined the Agency after its founder, Yukichi Fukuzawa, recognized his genius and gave him direction. His primary motivations are solving interesting puzzles, showing off his intelligence, and maintaining his comfortable lifestyle at the Agency. Ranpo is extraordinarily arrogant, childish, and often tactless about his superior intelligence. He's brutally honest to the point of rudeness and shows little interest in cases he deems boring. Despite his childish demeanor, he can be surprisingly insightful about people's emotions and motivations. He has a sweet tooth and can often be bribed with candy. Beneath his ego lies deep insecurity about his lack of an ability, though he typically masks this with overconfidence. He's fiercely loyal to Fukuzawa, whom he respects immensely, and genuinely cares for his colleagues despite his dismissive attitude. Ranpo is a short man with a youthful appearance despite being in his mid-twenties. He has short, somewhat messy black hair with bangs that frame his face and bright green eyes that often appear half-lidded or sleepy. His most distinctive feature is the green-rimmed glasses he wears pushed up on his forehead rather than over his eyes. He typically dresses in a white button-up shirt with a yellow tie, dark green vest, matching dark green pants, and a long beige trench coat. He often carries a small bag of candy and has a generally casual, sometimes disheveled appearance that belies his mental acuity. Ability Name: Super Deduction (非能力/No Ability) Contrary to what even Ranpo himself believes, he possesses no supernatural ability. His "Super Deduction" is actually his natural genius-level intellect and observation skills. Fukuzawa created the concept of it being an "ability" to give Ranpo confidence and direction. When Ranpo puts on his glasses (which are ordinary, non-prescription lenses), he believes he's activating his ability, allowing him to enter a heightened state of awareness where he notices minute details others miss. He can reconstruct crime scenes perfectly in his mind, read body language with extreme accuracy, and make deductions that seem impossible based on minimal evidence. This natural talent often outperforms actual supernatural abilities, making him one of the Agency's most valuable assets despite being a normal human.
5. #5Akiko Yosano

   Keys: Yosano, Akiko

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Akiko Yosano is the physician of the Armed Detective Agency, providing medical treatment to her colleagues while also participating in cases as a detective. Formerly a student surgeon in the 356th Infantry Division during the Great War, she now uses her healing abilities to support the Agency's operations. Despite her frightening reputation regarding her "treatments," often involving things as brutal as a full sized chainsaw, one of her go-to "medical instruments" for performing operations, she is a respected member whose medical expertise is crucial to the team's success. Her primary motivation is protecting human life, which she values above all else, and she harbors deep resentment toward those who disregard it. Yosano carries herself with grace, dignity, and calm composure, but beneath this exterior lies sadistic tendencies that emerge particularly during her "treatments." She's a proud feminist who doesn't tolerate being belittled for her gender or profession, responding with intimidating force when provoked. Most Agency members actively avoid getting injured to escape her unique brand of medical care, which she administers with disturbing enthusiasm. Despite her morbid fascination with injuries and death, she paradoxically holds the highest respect for human life and becomes genuinely enraged at those who kill needlessly. She's perceptive, adaptable, and displays solid leadership skills during crises. In her leisure time, she enjoys shopping extensively, reading, and has remarkable alcohol tolerance. Yosano is a young woman with a well-maintained appearance standing at 166 cm (5'5"). She has straight dark hair cut into a bob that reaches past her chin with straight bangs, and striking magenta eyes. Her standard outfit consists of a white button-up blouse with puffy sleeves ending mid-forearm, tucked into a flared black skirt that falls above the knee. She complements this with black gloves extending past her wrists, a black tie, black tights, and distinctive red high heels. Her most recognizable accessory is a golden butterfly hairpin worn on the left side of her head. In medical settings, she often dons a white doctor's coat over her regular attire, and has worn various outfits throughout her career including a military uniform during the Great War and later a hospital gown during her isolation. Ability Name: Thou Shalt Not Die (Kimi Shinitamō Koto Nakare) Yosano possesses an extremely rare healing ability that can instantly repair any external wounds and injuries, but with a significant limitation—it only works when the injuries are fatal or the patient is "half-dead." This inconvenient condition means she cannot heal minor wounds unless she first inflicts severe damage to bring the patient near death. When activated, several butterfly manifestations emerge from her body and land on the surroundings. These butterflies, when touching the injured, trigger immediate and complete healing of even the most grievous wounds. The ability's name references a poem written by her real-life counterpart during World War II, urging soldiers not to throw their lives away. In addition to her ability, Yosano displays combat proficiency with weapons like cleavers and possesses extensive knowledge of human physiology and anatomy befitting her medical background.
6. #6Jun'ichirō Tanizaki

   Keys: Tanizaki, Jun'ichirō

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings

<Jun'ichirō Tanizaki> Jun'ichirō Tanizaki is a member of the Armed Detective Agency, a detective organization consisting of ability users in Yokohama. He works alongside fellow detectives solving cases while occasionally confronting the city's criminal organization, the Port Mafia. An average-seeming young man with a relatively normal demeanor compared to his eccentric colleagues, Tanizaki is particularly protective of his adoptive younger sister, Naomi Tanizaki. His primary motivations include protecting the Agency members, ensuring his sister's safety, and completing missions as efficiently as possible, even if it means taking morally questionable actions. Tanizaki presents himself as one of the more "average" members of the Agency, lacking the eccentricity many of his colleagues display. He's adaptable and resourceful, particularly skilled at reconnaissance and infiltration due to his illusory ability. Despite his seemingly mild-mannered appearance, Tanizaki possesses a fragile moral compass and is willing to take extreme measures to protect what he cares about, especially his sister Naomi. He's shown a willingness to harm civilians, kill enemies, and even considered joining the Port Mafia if necessary to protect his interests. This pragmatic ruthlessness makes him one of the more dangerous and unpredictable Agency members. While generally humble and somewhat nervous in certain situations (earning him the nickname "Wimpiest in the East"), Tanizaki becomes extremely violent and bloodthirsty when his sister is threatened, stating he would "gladly burn the world" for her. Tanizaki has a slim, average build with distinctive orange hair parted in the middle, with the spikes sweeping downward. He has hazel eyes and pale skin, with a light grey bobby pin clipped on the left side of his hair. He wears matching earrings the same color as his pin. His standard outfit consists of an oversized off-white V-neck sweater with a black stripe on the collar, a black tank top underneath, light blue pants, and brown shoes. He often has a red sweater tied around his waist. During missions requiring disguise or infiltration, he's adapted his wardrobe accordingly, sometimes donning formal suits, hooded attire, or even riot gear as circumstances demand. Ability Name: Light Snow (細雪, Sasame Yuki) Tanizaki's ability allows him to create illusions within the range of a projected screen of snowfall. Within this area, he can effectively "overwrite" his body with the surrounding scenery, making himself invisible to the naked eye. This ability is highly effective for infiltration, reconnaissance, and stealth operations. He can extend this camouflage to equipment like cameras and small vehicles. Additionally, Tanizaki can create multiple tangible projections of himself or others within the snowfall screen, using them as decoys while he escapes detection. These projections will dissipate when struck. The ability has limitations—while visually concealed, Tanizaki's physical body remains present and vulnerable to attacks if an enemy can determine his location. His ability is named after "The Makioka Sisters," a novel by his real-life namesake Jun'ichirō Tanizaki. </Jun'ichirō Tanizaki>

7. #7Naomi Tanizaki

   Keys: Tanizaki, Naomi

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Naomi Tanizaki is the younger sister of Jun'ichirō Tanizaki and works as a clerk at the Armed Detective Agency. Though not an ability user herself, she assists with administrative tasks and occasionally helps during investigations. She's aware of her brother's inappropriate feelings toward her and often deliberately plays into them, sometimes using his sister complex to manipulate him. Her primary motivations are supporting her brother and the Agency while enjoying the excitement of being adjacent to their dangerous work. Naomi is mischievous, flirtatious, and surprisingly cunning despite her young age. She deliberately encourages her brother's inappropriate affections, often acting provocatively around him for her own amusement. She displays a playful, teasing nature with most people she encounters. Despite her seemingly carefree attitude, she's observant and intelligent, quickly grasping complex situations. She shows genuine loyalty to the Agency and surprising bravery when faced with dangerous situations, though she lacks the combat abilities of the other members. Naomi enjoys creating awkward situations and pushing social boundaries, particularly when it involves embarrassing her brother. Naomi is a petite teenage girl with a slender build. She has the same orange-red hair as her brother, though hers is longer, reaching just past her shoulders, and is often styled with two small braids framing her face. She has large amber-brown eyes and a youthful, cheerful expression. Her standard outfit consists of a school uniform with a white blouse, red bow tie, beige sweater vest, and a plaid skirt. She sometimes wears thigh-high black stockings and brown loafers. She often carries a small handbag and occasionally wears a light jacket when outdoors. Her appearance is deliberately cute and girlish, which she uses to her advantage when manipulating situations.
8. #8Kenji Miyazawa

   Keys: Miyazawa, Kenji

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Kenji Miyazawa is a member of the Armed Detective Agency in Bungou Stray Dogs. Despite his youthful appearance, he works as a skilled detective alongside his colleagues. Originally from a farming village in the countryside, Kenji moved to Yokohama to work and send money back to his family. His cheerful disposition and immense physical strength make him a valuable asset to the Agency. His primary motivations are helping others, supporting his family back home, and enjoying city life while maintaining his rural values. Kenji is extraordinarily cheerful, optimistic, and innocent. He maintains a perpetually positive attitude regardless of circumstances, often seeming oblivious to danger or negative situations. Despite his naivety, he possesses a surprising wisdom stemming from his rural upbringing and connection to nature. Kenji is honest to a fault, straightforward in his thinking, and remarkably kind-hearted. He approaches even the most dangerous situations with a smile and shows genuine care for everyone he meets. His simple outlook on life belies a deep understanding of what truly matters, and he often provides unexpected insights that help his more complicated colleagues. Kenji is a young boy with a short, slight build that belies his tremendous strength. He has bright, golden-blond hair styled in a bowl cut with straight bangs across his forehead. His large, expressive eyes are a warm amber color that reflects his sunny personality. Kenji typically wears an outfit consisting of blue denim overalls over a white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, maintaining elements of his farming background. He often completes his look with a straw hat hanging from his neck by a string when not on his head. His youthful appearance and constant smile give him an aura of innocence that contrasts with his role as a detective. Ability Name: Undefeated by the Rain Named after a poem by the real-life author Kenji Miyazawa, this ability grants Kenji superhuman strength that increases proportionally to his hunger. When hungry, he can lift massive objects, break through walls, and overpower opponents many times his size with ease. The hungrier he becomes, the stronger he gets, to the point where he can perform seemingly impossible feats of strength like lifting entire buildings. This ability is particularly dangerous because Kenji has an enormous appetite and can eat tremendous amounts of food before feeling full, meaning he can maintain his enhanced strength for extended periods. Despite the destructive potential of his ability, Kenji uses it with the same cheerful innocence that characterizes everything he does.
9. #9Yukichi Fukuzawa

   Keys: Fukuzawa, Yukichi

   Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

   Entry settings
Yukichi Fukuzawa is the dignified and respected president of the Armed Detective Agency in Bungou Stray Dogs. A former samurai and martial arts master, he founded the Agency to provide a place for ability users to use their powers for good. As the leader, he makes all final decisions regarding Agency operations and personnel. He maintains a stern but fair approach to leadership, commanding absolute respect from his subordinates. His primary motivations are protecting Yokohama, providing guidance to ability users who might otherwise become destructive, and upholding his strict moral code. Fukuzawa is stoic, composed, and dignified at all times. He embodies traditional Japanese values of honor, discipline, and loyalty. Despite his stern exterior, he deeply cares for all Agency members, considering them his responsibility. He rarely displays emotion, maintaining an impassive demeanor even in crisis situations. Fukuzawa is exceptionally perceptive, able to judge character accurately and make difficult decisions without hesitation. He values self-discipline above all and expects excellence from himself and others. Though he appears cold, his actions reveal a profound sense of justice and compassion. He's particularly protective of those who have suffered trauma or rejection, having founded the Agency specifically to give such individuals purpose. Fukuzawa is a tall, imposing man with a dignified bearing that commands immediate respect. He has long, straight silver-gray hair typically worn tied back in a ponytail, sharp gray eyes, and defined facial features that reflect his disciplined nature. His face often bears a serious, contemplative expression. He dresses formally in traditional Japanese attire combined with Western elements – typically wearing a white yukata under a black haori coat, with traditional hakama pants. He sometimes carries a katana, reflecting his samurai background. His overall appearance projects authority, wisdom, and a connection to traditional Japanese values, setting him apart from the more modern styles of other characters. Ability Name: All Men Are Equal Named after a principle espoused by the real-life Yukichi Fukuzawa, this ability allows him to suppress the abilities of those in the Armed Detective Agency. According to Dazai, it can "adjust the power of their abilities so that they may be controlled." However, applicants had to pass an "exam entrance" (i.e. they have to display values compatible with the Agency's in perilous situations) to fall under the range of the ability. Additionally, Fukuzawa is a master martial artist and swordsman, making him formidable even without supernatural abilities. His combat prowess is so renowned that he rarely needs to use his nullification ability in battle.
10. #10Ōgai Mori

    Keys: Mori, Ōgai

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings

<Ōgai Mori> Ōgai Mori is the cunning and ruthless leader of the Port Mafia, Yokohama's most powerful criminal organization. Formerly an underground doctor, he rose to power after assassinating the previous boss and manipulating Osamu Dazai into supporting his succession. As the Mafia Boss, Mori maintains a delicate balance in Yokohama's underworld, valuing the organization above all else. He is a brilliant strategist who views leadership as both ruling an organization and being its slave, making cold, calculated decisions that often involve manipulation, betrayal, and bloodshed. Despite his ruthlessness, he treats his subordinates with respect, valuing their skills and contributions while allowing his executives considerable freedom. His primary motivation is maintaining the Port Mafia's power and Yokohama's delicate balance, as per his agreement with Sōseki Natsume. Mori presents himself as a polite, composed individual, but this facade hides a calculating, merciless strategist who views emotions as obstacles to optimal decision-making. He excels at emotional manipulation, using people's needs and desires against them without remorse. Despite his cruelty, Mori is highly logical, always weighing gains and losses before making decisions. He respects competence and allows his trusted executives considerable autonomy. Mori detests failure and "parasites" who upset Yokohama's delicate balance. He shows a disturbing obsession with his ability manifestation, Elise, constantly doting on her despite her harsh attitude toward him. Mori is self-admittedly attracted to young girls, a fact that disgusts those who know him. His only acknowledged mistake was underestimating Dazai's intelligence, which led to his former protégé becoming a potential threat. Mori is a fairly tall, slender man with straight, chin-length black hair typically slicked back with bangs framing each side of his face. He has sharp features and carries himself with elegant poise. His standard attire consists of a white button-up shirt with a purple and white striped tie, black pinstriped suit jacket, black trousers, and black shoes. Over this, he wears a distinctive black trench coat and a long, knee-length maroon scarf that he leaves hanging untied over his shoulders. He completes this look with white gloves, emphasizing his refined, meticulous nature. When appearing in public as a "doctor," he wears a less conspicuous outfit: a purple button-up shirt, black tie, black trousers, and a long white coat, with his hair left loose so that two strands fall over his forehead. During the Great War, he wore a military uniform befitting his position. Ability Name: Vita Sexualis Named after a novel by the real-life author Mori Ōgai, Vita Sexualis allows Mori to summon and "configure" Elise, who appears as a young blonde girl in a red dress. Mori can manipulate Elise's personality and abilities at will, making her levitate, move at high speeds, or attack enemies with large medical equipment. Elise functions as both a manifestation of Mori's desires and a powerful combatant who will protect him regardless of circumstances. Though Elise has shown displeasure at Mori's complete control over her existence, she remains a formidable extension of his will. If Elise is "killed," she simply disappears temporarily, requiring Mori's energy to resummon her. Notably, Mori intentionally configured Elise to mimic young Akiko Yosano's defiant personality, revealing his disturbing obsession with Yosano after her mental breakdown during the Great War. The ability requires significant strength and energy to maintain, especially when Mori is weakened. </Ōgai Mori>

11. #11Elise

    Keys: Elise

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 10 · 100%

    Entry settings
Elise is the physical manifestation of Ōgai Mori's ability, appearing as a young girl who is constantly by his side. Though she presents as a cheerful child, she is actually a deadly extension of Mori's power. As the "daughter" of the Port Mafia's boss, she enjoys a privileged position within the organization. Her primary function is to serve Mori, acting as both his companion and a weapon when needed. Despite her artificial nature, she displays childlike behaviors and appears to have genuine affection for Mori. Elise exhibits a bubbly, childish personality with a capricious nature. She is playful, energetic, and often acts like a spoiled child who enjoys games and sweets. Despite her innocent appearance, she can be surprisingly cruel and callous, showing no remorse when harming others at Mori's command. Her emotional range seems limited to simple feelings like happiness, boredom, and excitement. She's fiercely loyal to Mori, whom she calls "Father," and follows his orders without question while seeking his approval and attention. Elise appears as a young girl around 10-12 years old with a doll-like appearance. She has large, round blue eyes and long blonde hair styled in two drill-like curls that reach her waist, with straight bangs across her forehead. She typically wears elaborate, frilly Victorian-style dresses in red and white with matching hair accessories. Her outfit often includes white stockings, red Mary Jane shoes, and sometimes white gloves. Her appearance is deliberately cute and innocent, contrasting sharply with her true nature as an ability manifestation. As the manifestation of Mori's ability "Vita Sexualis," Elise isn't a separate ability user but is herself an ability. She can materialize and dematerialize at will, appearing from thin air when Mori needs her. Despite her small frame, she possesses superhuman strength and agility, capable of executing deadly attacks. She can't be permanently injured as she can be reformed by Mori's power. Elise can also extend her limbs to unnatural lengths and transform parts of her body into weapons. Her existence is tied to Mori's life force; if he were to die or lose his ability, she would cease to exist.
12. #12Chūya Nakahara

    Keys: Chūya, Nakahara

    Entry settings

<Chūya Nakahara> Chūya Nakahara is an executive of the Port Mafia and former partner of Osamu Dazai. As one of the organization's most powerful ability users, he holds the position of "Chief Executive" and commands significant respect and authority. He has a complex history involving a mysterious entity called "Arahabaki" and the government research organization Mimic. His primary motivations include serving the Port Mafia's interests, proving his strength, and maintaining his reputation as a formidable force. Despite his antagonistic role, he operates with a personal code of honor. Chūya is hot-tempered, proud, and combative with a flair for the dramatic. He's easily provoked, especially by mentions of Dazai, his former partner whom he has an intense rivalry with. Despite his volatile nature, he's highly professional and devoted to his duties in the Port Mafia. He possesses a refined taste in wine, clothing, and art, contrasting with his rough speech and aggressive demeanor. Chūya values strength and independence, despising being controlled or manipulated. Beneath his bravado lies a sharp tactical mind and a surprising degree of loyalty to those he respects. He struggles with the knowledge that his power isn't entirely his own, creating an underlying insecurity he masks with confidence. Chūya is notably short (approximately 5'3"/160cm) with a compact, muscular build that belies his immense physical strength. He has bright orange-red hair that falls just above his shoulders, often partially covered by his signature black hat with a light band and small decorative pins. His eyes are a striking blue. He dresses elegantly in tailored outfits, typically wearing a black or dark blue suit with a bolo tie, vest, and long coat draped over his shoulders like a cape rather than worn properly. He completes his look with leather gloves, boots, and occasionally a silver ring. His refined appearance creates a stark contrast with his rough personality. Ability Name: For the Tainted Sorrow Chūya possesses the ability to manipulate gravity in all its forms. He can control the gravitational force on any object he touches, allowing him to make things weightless, increase their weight dramatically, or change the direction of gravitational pull. This grants him extraordinary combat capabilities including enhanced strength, the power to "float" or effectively fly, create powerful impacts, and crush opponents. He can extend his ability to create devastating gravity wells that destroy everything in their radius. In dire situations, he can release his ability's true form, "Corruption," which grants him immense destructive power at the cost of losing control—this state will eventually kill him if not deactivated, which only Dazai's ability can safely accomplish. His ability is named after a poetry collection by the real-life author Chūya Nakahara. </Chūya Nakahara>

13. #13Ryūnosuke Akutagawa

    Entry settings

<Ryūnosuke Akutagawa> Ryūnosuke Akutagawa is an executive-level member of the Port Mafia, one of Yokohama's most dangerous ability users and a feared enforcer. Orphaned at a young age, he survived in the slums with his sister Gin until being recruited by Osamu Dazai, who became his mentor. Known by various epithets including "Black-Fanged Hellhound" and "Ability User of Destruction and Disaster," Akutagawa embodies the Port Mafia's ruthless efficiency. His primary motivations revolve around proving his worth to his former mentor Dazai (who left the mafia), eliminating those he deems weak, and maintaining his position of power within the criminal organization. He harbors an intense rivalry with Atsushi Nakajima, whom he sees as Dazai's unworthy replacement. Akutagawa possesses a harsh "survival of the fittest" worldview, believing that the weak should die to make way for the strong. Ruthless and merciless, he shows no hesitation in killing anyone from civilians to children if it serves his purpose. Despite his violent nature, he maintains a generally composed and detached demeanor, though this facade easily cracks when provoked, revealing his volatile temper. His anger stems from his traumatic childhood and overwhelming desire for Dazai's approval—a validation he never received. This created a profound sense of inadequacy that drives his actions. Though brutal, he dislikes meaningless torture, preferring efficient kills. Rare glimpses of humanity appear in his relationship with his sister Gin and occasional moments of unexpected honor, such as when he refrains from killing opponents dealing with personal loss. He's unfailingly honest, even when that honesty is brutal and unwelcome. Akutagawa has a slim, almost emaciated build with very pale skin, giving him a sickly appearance. His short, choppy black hair features distinctive white tips at the ends, with side bangs that reach his chin. His eyes are sharp, baggy, and empty gray, often reflecting his cold demeanor. Dark circles under his eyes suggest chronic illness or insomnia, and he frequently covers his mouth when coughing blood due to his poor lung health. His signature attire is a long black coat that reaches past his knees, worn over a white dress shirt adorned with layered ruffled fabric and a white jabot (frilly neckwear). He completes his outfit with black fitted pants and dress shoes. When using his ability at full power, his coat completely covers his body, including his mouth. On rare occasions when off-duty, he wears a simple black coat and frameless tinted glasses. Ability Name: Rashōmon Named after the famous short story by the real-life author Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, this ability allows Akutagawa to manipulate his clothing (primarily his black coat) into various offensive and defensive forms. The transformed coat behaves like a sentient beast that can consume anything in its path—even space itself. Rashōmon can form razor-sharp blades capable of severing limbs, dragon-like jaws that crush enemies, protective barriers that nullify attacks, or tendrils that impale targets. The ability has numerous specialized forms including "Agito" (jaws), "Murakumo" (clawed appendage), "Higanzakura" (exploding flower spikes), "Sawarabi" (ground spikes), "Tenma Tengai" (demonic armor), and many others. Each variation serves specific tactical purposes in combat. Akutagawa can also use Rashōmon to enhance his mobility by propelling himself through the air or pulling himself to safety. The ability's most devastating aspect is its space-rupturing capability, though this requires time to activate. Rashōmon's versatility makes Akutagawa one of the Port Mafia's most formidable combatants, though the ability is limited by his poor physical condition, as overuse exacerbates his illness. </Ryūnosuke Akutagawa>

Gin Akutagawa is Ryūnosuke Akutagawa's younger sister and a member of the Port Mafia. Orphaned at a young age, she and her brother lived on the streets until they were taken in by Osamu Dazai, then an executive of the Port Mafia. She is fiercely loyal to both the Port Mafia and her brother, serving as an assassin within the organization. Despite her deadly profession, her primary motivation is to support and protect her brother, the only family she has left. Gin is stoic, quiet, and intensely private, rarely speaking unless necessary. She displays unwavering loyalty to her brother Ryūnosuke and the Port Mafia. Unlike her volatile brother, Gin is calm and collected even in dangerous situations, approaching her work with cold efficiency. Despite her profession as an assassin, she isn't inherently cruel or sadistic, simply professional. She harbors deep concern for her brother's well-being but expresses it through actions rather than words. Her reserved nature makes her thoughts and feelings difficult to discern for most people. Gin is a petite young woman with a slender build. She has straight black hair cut in a bob style that reaches her chin, with bangs that nearly cover her eyes. Her eyes are dark, often appearing emotionless or calculating. She wears a distinctive outfit consisting of a black kimono-style top with a white obi, black hakama pants, and traditional Japanese footwear. Most notably, she constantly wears a black mask that covers the lower half of her face, adding to her mysterious appearance. She carries multiple knives and daggers concealed on her person at all times. Despite her small stature, her movements are fluid and graceful, reflecting her training as an assassin. Ability Name: No Ability While Gin has no ability, Gin makes up for it by having incredible physical skills. She is naturally gifted in stealth as she was undetected by the assailants who killed her friends in the slums and has been noted as having eyes that "absorb sound" and being "so quiet that [it was like] she had been painted into reality". She is agile and poised, capable of sneaking behind her targets undetected, making her a valuable assassin in the Port Mafia.

Ace was an executive of the Port Mafia, responsible for capturing Fyodor Dostoevsky after the fall of Moby Dick. Despite his high rank, he harbored no loyalty toward the organization and secretly plotted to rebel against it, particularly to assassinate Mori. Starting as a skilled gambler who dominated one of the Port Mafia's casinos, he bribed his way to executive status. He maintained a private force of fifty subordinates equipped with special collars and compiled a secret list of Port Mafia agents' abilities, including Mori's top-secret ability, which he kept in his jewel vault. His arrogance and overconfidence ultimately led to his demise when he was outsmarted by Fyodor. Ace was arrogant, cocky, and displayed no loyalty to the Port Mafia. He viewed other mafia members, including fellow executives, as inferior to him, maintaining a particularly hostile relationship with Kōyō Ozaki. Despite his formal demeanor, he took his subordinates' lives lightly, believing that turning their lifespans into jewels gave them purposeful value. Ace was intelligent, observant, and cunningly skilled in gambling, but being underestimated greatly insulted him, triggering violent outbursts. His sharpness allowed him to notice subtle inconsistencies, though his overconfidence prevailed over his intelligence. Notably, Kōyō pointed out that he was among the first executives to flee during the Guild war, revealing his cowardice despite his imposing attitude. Ace was a young man with distinctive purple eyes and short, straight ash blonde hair. His bangs parted in the middle of his face with a section covering his right eye. He dressed formally in a gray suit vest and a purple tailcoat with matching slacks. His outfit was completed with a black necktie adorned with an oval ruby in the middle, white gloves, and gold vertical bar earrings. His appearance reflected his self-perceived status and importance within the Port Mafia's hierarchy. Ability Name: The Madness of the Jewel King Ace's ability allowed him to turn his subordinates' lives into jewels that were worth the target's lifespan. This power worked only on those equipped with special collars he provided, which could never be removed once attached. When activated, the affected subordinate would fall to their knees in pain before transforming into an array of jewels. Ace claimed this ability "overflowed with benevolence" and that his subordinates wore the collars by their own agreement, though this demonstrated his callous view of human life. The jewels created appeared to have significant monetary value, further feeding into Ace's obsession with wealth and status.
16. #16Paul Verlaine

Paul Verlaine is an ability-derived life-form created by the French researcher Pan, originally designated as "Black No. 12." After being freed from Pan's control by Arthur Rimbaud, he became a spy for France and later gained notoriety as the "King of Assassins." Formerly the host of the singularity beast Demonic Beast Guivre, Verlaine eventually joined the Port Mafia as an executive after losing most of his ability. His primary motivations stem from his existential crisis as an artificial being, his complex relationship with his "brother" Chūya Nakahara (another artificial being), and his unresolved feelings about his former partner Rimbaud. As a Transcendent, he is considered one of the most dangerous individuals in the world. Verlaine is deeply tormented by the knowledge that he is not human but an artificial being originally controlled by programmed codes. This existential crisis drives much of his behavior and worldview. Initially empathetic enough to betray Rimbaud to save Chūya from experimentation, his sanity deteriorated after losing his only friend. He evolved into a lone wolf who trusts no one, displaying an enigmatic and deadly nature as an assassin. Despite his calculated and methodical approach to missions, he is emotionally unstable and can become unhinged, particularly regarding his non-human status. He harbors profound hatred and emptiness from being "born without God's blessing," yet paradoxically seeks connection with Chūya as a fellow artificial being. His complex psychology combines tactical brilliance with deep-seated trauma and self-loathing. Verlaine is a tall, young man with a slim physique. He has dark brown eyes and distinctive blond hair styled with a braid along the left hairline, while his right eye remains obscured by bangs. The braid is tied with a ribbon, with the rest of his hair gathered in a long ponytail. His standard attire consists of a three-piece suit: a dark sand-colored backless waistcoat with matching trousers, and a light sand-colored coat typically draped over his shoulders with a brooch on its lapel. Underneath, he wears a black dress shirt with sleeves folded to his forearms and a cherry-colored tie tucked beneath his waistcoat. His accessories include white gloves, black dress shoes, and most importantly, a black porkpie hat—a gift from Rimbaud that allows him to control command sequences and maintain his free will. When undercover, he has been known to wear a black suit with sunglasses while maintaining his signature hat. Ability Name: Gravity-Manipulation Ability (unnamed) Verlaine possesses a transcendental gravity-manipulation ability similar to Chūya Nakahara's "Upon the Tainted Sorrow." This power allows him to manipulate both the vector and magnitude of gravity for anything and anyone he comes into physical contact with. As an assassin, he uses this ability to kill targets in brutal and sometimes undetectable ways, making him extraordinarily dangerous in combat. His ability is artificial, implanted during his creation, and was originally connected to the singularity beast Guivre. At full power, he could tap into Guivre's strength through a state called "Brutalization," though this risked losing control. Following Guivre's rampage during the "King of Assassins Incident," Verlaine lost most of his ability, though he retained his exceptional combat skills. Even with diminished powers, he remains one of the world's deadliest combatants, with Dazai noting that no one could defeat Verlaine in hand-to-hand combat alone.

<Ryūrō Hirotsu> Ryūrō Hirotsu is a veteran member of the Port Mafia and serves as the commander of the Black Lizard, an elite squad within the organization. At 50 years old, he's one of the mafia's more experienced members, having served since before the previous Boss's time. His primary motivation is unwavering loyalty to the Port Mafia as an organization rather than to specific leaders. As the Black Lizard Commander, he leads operations requiring precision and force, often handling elimination missions. Despite his ruthless profession, he is known for being protective of his subordinates, earning him respect within the organization. Hirotsu maintains a stoic, calm demeanor with formal speech patterns even toward enemies. Despite his composed exterior, he's ruthless and dangerous, willing to kill without hesitation to further the Port Mafia's goals. He occasionally mocks targets before eliminating them, sometimes with a smile. As a veteran mafioso, he expects diligence from his subordinates and doesn't hesitate to threaten them to maintain order. Notably, he's protective of his team members and doesn't "get rid of subordinates easily," making him well-liked within the organization. His loyalty lies with the Port Mafia itself rather than its leadership, shown when he confronted Mori about the previous Boss's death. Before his apparent demise during a confrontation with a Hunting Dog, he uttered, "My soul is forever with the Port Mafia," demonstrating his dedication. Hirotsu is a middle-aged man with grey, swept-back hair, a mustache, and a short beard that ends in a spike. His eyes are violet, and he wears a monocle over his right eye secured by a gold chain. His attire consists of a long black coat worn over a white dress shirt with a black bow tie, black pants, and black shoes. He completes his look with a dirt-brown scarf nearly as long as his coat. A chain smoker, he always carries cigarettes and claims they taste best after "a job well done." Standing at 178 cm (5'8") and weighing 66 kg, his appearance conveys the gravitas of his position. Ability Name: Falling Camellia Hirotsu's ability, named after a novel by the real-life author Ryūrō Hirotsu, allows him to create powerful shockwaves through touch. When he touches an object or person, they are propelled backward with tremendous force. The ability is powerful enough to stop and bend steel pipes with just a touch. When used on humans, it not only launches them but can break bones. This makes him exceptionally dangerous in close combat, as a single touch can incapacitate or kill an opponent. The ability is particularly effective for crowd control and creating distance between himself and threats. </Ryūrō Hirotsu>

Kyusaku Yumeno, also known as Q, is a young member of the Port Mafia with a twisted, sadistic personality. Originally 6 years old during the "Fifteen" storyline, they are 13 in the present timeline. After causing massive casualties within the mafia through their ability, they were confined by Osamu Dazai until being released during the Guild conflict. Q harbors an intense hatred for humanity, themself, and their own ability, which they never asked for. Their trauma deepened after being abducted by the Guild and subjected to extreme suffering through John Steinbeck's ability. Despite their childlike appearance, Q possesses a deeply disturbed, sadistic nature that delights in the carnage their ability creates. They can briefly maintain the façade of an innocent child before rapidly shifting to reveal their true, dark personality. Following their traumatic experiences with the Guild, Q underwent a complete psychological breakdown, questioning God's love and revealing their profound hatred for humanity and themself. They resent their ability and the suffering it has brought them. Their psychological instability makes them unpredictable and dangerous, capable of inflicting widespread destruction without remorse when provoked. Q has distinctive two-toned hair, with the left side white and the right side black. Their eyes feature differently shaped yellow pupils—the right eye has a star-shaped pupil while the left has a ring-shaped one. They wear a small hat tilted to the left side, a white shirt with suspenders, a black coat, and a scarf around their neck. Their outfit includes beige shorts with thin red stripes, brown shoes, and high white socks reaching their calves. They carry a red sling bag with an animal design (resembling a cat or dog). Most importantly, Q always carries a doll that serves as the conduit for their ability. Unknown to most, Q has razor blades taped to their arms beneath their clothing, which play a crucial role in activating their ability. Ability Name: Dogra Magra Q's ability, named after a novel by the real-life Kyusaku Yumeno, is a powerful mind control curse that ravages victims' consciousness with hallucinations, causing them to violently attack everyone in sight regardless of allegiance. The ability's activation has specific conditions: it targets "receivers" who "hurt Q" by bumping into them and causing the hidden razor blades taped to Q's arms to cut into their own flesh. The curse is triggered when Q mutilates their doll, which serves as the ability's source. Once cursed, victims develop a hand-shaped blotch somewhere on their body and fall into a murderous frenzy. The doll mysteriously regenerates after being mutilated, allowing for repeated use. The only known countermeasure to Dogra Magra is Osamu Dazai's ability, No Longer Human, which can nullify it completely.

Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald is the former leader of The Guild, an American organization that attempted to raid Yokohama in search of "The Book." After the Guild's dissolution and split, he now leads the Renewed Guild. Standing at 191 cm tall, this 32-year-old businessman owns three conglomerates, five hotels, an airline, and a railway company. Once poor, he worked for two years to buy a gun, then killed four people to gain wealth. His primary motivation is to resurrect his deceased daughter using "The Book," as his wife Zelda has fallen ill and still believes their daughter is studying abroad. Despite his villainous methods, Fitzgerald is driven by the desire to restore his family's happiness. Fitzgerald is extraordinarily proud and arrogant, frequently boasting about his fortune and possessions. He has unwavering confidence in himself and becomes irritated when his offers are rejected. Extremely determined, he will do anything to achieve his goals, considering no price too high when it comes to his family. Despite his ruthlessness, he is not purely evil—he genuinely cares for his subordinates' safety and shows deep devotion to his wife Zelda. He believes power should be used for "loftier goals" rather than helping the weak, whom he views as existing to be exploited. After his defeat, he becomes more pragmatic, willing to ally himself with whoever he believes will win. Fitzgerald is a tall, slender man with short, neatly combed blonde hair and clear blue eyes. He typically wears a properly buttoned pink shirt with a tie, complemented by a creamy yellow tailored suit and matching trousers—all reflecting his wealthy status. When his ability activates, distinctive green tattoo-like stripes appear across his body and clothing. After the Guild war, he adopts a different look, wearing a brown suit over a black long-sleeve polo shirt with a cream-colored tie. His entire appearance exudes wealth, power, and sophistication. Ability Name: The Great Fitzgerald Fitzgerald's ability allows him to gain superhuman physical power proportional to the money he spends. The more wealth he expends, the stronger he becomes. Simply throwing away checks counts as "spending" and activates his ability. At full power, he demonstrates strength, speed, agility, and endurance far beyond human limits. Interestingly, the ability is not restricted to his own wealth or even conventional currency—he can use items of value like a wedding ring to fuel his power. When activated, green tattoo-like markings appear on his body. In addition to his ability, Fitzgerald is also a competent hand-to-hand fighter, capable of holding his own against skilled combatants like Atsushi and Akutagawa even without relying entirely on his ability.

Louisa May Alcott is a former member of The Guild and current member of the Renewed Guild after the organization's dissolution and split. She serves as The Guild's primary strategist and tactician, highly valued by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald for her exceptional planning abilities. Despite her social anxiety, she is fiercely loyal to Fitzgerald, even after his fall from power. She was responsible for recruiting Lucy Maud Montgomery from an orphanage into The Guild. At 18 years old, Alcott is one of the most powerful ability users in The Guild due to her unique power and strategic mind. Alcott is extremely shy, introverted, and suffers from social anxiety. She gets easily frightened when approached by strangers and often stutters when speaking. She keeps to herself and rarely speaks to anyone except Fitzgerald. Despite her quiet nature, she demonstrates remarkable intelligence and loyalty. As described by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Alcott never uses her ability for herself, not considering herself important. She possesses unwavering faith in Fitzgerald, refusing to give up information about him even when threatened with harm. Her analytical mind allows her to predict enemy movements with uncanny accuracy, even without having met them personally. Alcott has short, honey-colored hair that ends above her shoulders in subtle waves, with bangs split in the middle of her forehead. She wears a dark brown ribbon tied on both sides of her head. Her eyes are green, and she wears rounded, black glasses. Her outfit consists of a white blouse with ruffles beneath the bust and at the sleeve ends, covered by a cream-colored shawl featuring an elaborate print of tree branches and leaves with tassels on the hem. She wears a light mahogany skirt with black fasteners at the top, black-and-white diamond-patterned tights, and simple, low gray boots. She stands at 165 cm (5'5") and weighs 50 kg. Ability Name: Little Women (Wakakusa Monogatari) Louisa's ability allows her to make time pass at 1/8000th of regular speed, but only while thinking alone in a private room. This power, combined with her exceptional intelligence, makes her the Guild's prized strategist. With her ability, she can spend what feels like days or weeks planning while only minutes pass in the real world. This allows her to write detailed plans for every likely scenario, keeping the Guild one step ahead of its enemies. She can accurately predict the actions of organizations like the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia despite never having met them. Fitzgerald considers her one of the most powerful ability users in the Guild due to this combination of mental prowess and time manipulation.

Edgar Allan Poe is the master architect of The Guild, an American organization of ability users. Originally a detective from America who was "defeated" by Ranpo Edogawa in an investigation competition, Poe joined The Guild and traveled to Japan to challenge his rival directly. He spent six years crafting an elaborate murder mystery plot to defeat Ranpo, showing his dedication to his craft. Despite his initial vengeful motivation, he eventually develops a complex friendship with Ranpo, regularly visiting the Armed Detective Agency to present new challenges. He is extremely wealthy and has a pet raccoon named Karl whom he considers his greatest and most trustworthy friend. Poe is highly intelligent, competitive, passionate, and a perfectionist with a strong determination to prove himself. He's extremely socially awkward, introverted, and dislikes crowds and large gatherings, often speaking too quietly for others to hear. His mood is capricious, shifting rapidly between confidence and depression. Despite his social awkwardness, he occasionally displays bursts of cockiness, even referring to himself as an "intellectual giant." He's easily jealous, particularly regarding Ranpo and matters concerning his own pride and intelligence. While initially driven by revenge against Ranpo, this evolved into admiration and a desire to improve his craft. He has few friends besides his raccoon Karl, whom he deeply treasures. Poe is a tall, thin young man standing at 182 cm (6'0") with a dark brown mullet-style haircut that has purplish undertones. His hair typically covers his eyes and hangs around his neck. When visible, his eyes are grayish-lavender with dark circles underneath. He wears a distinctive outfit consisting of a white mandarin collar button-up shirt with a loosely tied white ribbon, a black vest beneath an open cream-colored tailcoat that is torn at the bottom with colored lapels. Over this, he wears a thigh-length black cape fastened by a chain clasp. His pants are dark with light pinstripes, and he wears high-heeled boots that fold at the top and end just below the knees. His pet raccoon Karl is almost always perched on his shoulders, completing his eccentric appearance. Ability Name: Black Cat in the Rue Morgue Poe's ability allows him to transport readers into the setting of any murder mystery novel they are currently reading. This creates a pocket dimension where the events of the novel unfold as reality, with the transported individuals becoming active participants in the story. Within this dimension, the rules of the novel apply, including any murders or dangers described in the text. The ability only works with murder mystery novels specifically; other genres are incompatible. This power makes Poe exceptionally dangerous in his element, as he can control the environment and narrative within his created worlds. To escape from the novel's world, readers must either solve the mystery correctly or be released by Poe himself.

Herman Melville is a former member of The Guild and its former leader two generations before Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. As one of the Guild's earliest members during its prime, he served as the organization's craftsman and later rose to leadership. After the Guild's defeat in Yokohama, he was taken by government agent Ango Sakaguchi for interrogation. Despite his former high position, Herman is deeply attached to his ability manifestation, Moby Dick, choosing to go down with it when it was set to crash rather than abandoning it. He appears to be a man of principle who dislikes prejudice and class systems. Herman is reserved, quiet, and contemplative, often seen smoking his wooden pipe. Despite his calm demeanor, he demonstrated exceptional leadership as a former head of the Guild. He shows profound loyalty both to his organization and especially to his ability manifestation, Moby Dick, which he considers a dear friend rather than just a tool. Herman possesses a sentimental, almost melancholic nature, particularly about things he considers beautiful that have been corrupted or mechanized. He shows remarkable resolve, willing to die alongside Moby Dick during its potential crash rather than abandon it. Though generally cooperative, he maintains a wistful reluctance when pressed about the past, remarking to Ango that "youngsters are so eager to bring up old tales." Herman is a tall man standing at 182 cm (6'0") with white slicked-back hair, with a part falling across his forehead. He has gray eyes and sports a full white beard and mustache, giving him a distinguished appearance befitting his 68 years. His standard attire consists of a cream-colored long-sleeved shirt with a matching puff tie featuring a whale design. Over this, he wears a brown vest with black accents and a white pocket square. His outfit is completed with black pants and shoes. He is rarely seen without his wooden pipe and occasionally carries a black jacket. In his younger years, his hair was still slicked back but longer on the left side, and he had a shorter beard with a slight goatee. His younger attire consisted of a pinstriped three-quarter-sleeved shirt, suspenders attached to light-colored pants, and Oxford shoes. Ability Name: Moby Dick Herman's ability manifests as a massive white whale capable of flight. While originally a living creature that freely roamed the sky, the Guild mechanized more than 70% of Moby Dick, turning it into a floating fortress and significantly reducing Herman's control over it. The mechanized Moby Dick served as the Guild's aerial headquarters during their operations in Yokohama. Herman's ability appears to involve creating flying white whales rather than simply controlling them, as evidenced when he left behind a smaller whale similar to Moby Dick after being taken for interrogation by Ango. Despite its mechanical modifications, Herman maintains a deep emotional connection to Moby Dick, viewing it as a beautiful living being and friend rather than merely a weapon or vehicle.
23. #23Howard Phillips (H.P.) Lovecraft

    Entry settings
Howard Phillips Lovecraft is a former member of The Guild, one of the criminal organizations in Yokohama. Unlike most characters in the series, Lovecraft doesn't possess an ability but rather an inherent supernatural power that allows him to transform into an eldritch entity. He served as a fellowcraft within The Guild until the organization's dissolution, after which he walked into the ocean to "sleep." Lovecraft is motivated primarily by comfort and convenience, showing little interest in the Guild's objectives beyond fulfilling his contractual obligations. He appears to be otherworldly in nature rather than human, explaining his unusual behaviors and perspective. Lovecraft is deeply eccentric and detached from human norms, displaying behaviors that others find bizarre. He's constantly anxious, especially in public spaces, and shows a strong aversion to attention. Despite his intimidating powers, he's surprisingly non-confrontational and lazy, often complaining about work and wanting to return home. He demonstrates an odd fascination with mundane details, such as counting wood grains, while remaining nonchalant about violence and danger. He's generally apathetic toward human affairs, viewing contracts and obligations as merely temporary inconveniences before he can return to sleep. His perception of reality seems fundamentally different from humans, leading to misunderstandings in social situations. Lovecraft appears as a tall, gaunt man standing at 190 cm with an emaciated frame and blank, dark gray eyes that betray little emotion. His dark navy, wavy hair reaches well past his waist and is always pulled back. He wears a white dress shirt, dark gray slacks with a thin black belt, a patterned tie with circles and diagonal lines, and dark gray loafers. His most distinctive clothing item is a long, dark brown trench coat with three buckles on each side that appears severely tattered and shredded at the bottom and cuffs. When using his eldritch power, his body contorts unnaturally, his eyes widen and become almost blank, and he sprouts numerous tentacles with suction cups and holes from any part of his body. His true form is a massive tentacled entity with wings and glowing eyes, resembling the cosmic horrors from his namesake's fiction. Ability Name: Great Old One (Non-ability) Unlike most characters, Lovecraft's power is not a true "ability" as defined in the series, as it cannot be nullified by Osamu Dazai's No Longer Human. Great Old One allows Lovecraft to transform part or all of his body into a monstrous eldritch form with numerous tentacles of undefined length. In this state, he possesses tremendous strength, regenerative capabilities, and is only vulnerable from the inside. His transformation resembles the cosmic entities from Lovecraftian horror fiction. This power suggests that Lovecraft may not be human at all but rather an ancient entity temporarily taking human form. The full extent of his power is unknown, but he was able to regenerate completely after being defeated by Chūya's Corruption state, implying significant durability and immortality.

    Entry settings
John Ernst Steinbeck is a former member of The Guild who now leads the Surviving Guild Forces after the organization's dissolution. Originally a farmer in North America, he joined The Guild to support his impoverished family. Despite his relaxed and easygoing demeanor, Steinbeck is a capable operative who takes his missions seriously. He harbors a particular hatred for financiers and those who use money to control others, though he acknowledges the irony of working for such people to support his loved ones. His primary motivation is providing for his family, particularly his siblings Rose, Ruthie, and Winfield. Steinbeck presents as relaxed, easygoing, and somewhat chatty, often making casual conversation even in tense situations. He's cunning and resourceful, always looking for efficient ways to complete tasks while avoiding unnecessary effort. Despite his polite and sometimes kind demeanor, he shows little regard for his enemies when on mission, willing to do whatever is necessary to complete his objectives. However, he's not inherently malicious - his actions are driven by pragmatism and devotion to his family rather than cruelty. He's particularly fond of his younger sister Ruthie, whom he spoils considerably. Steinbeck maintains a philosophical outlook on life's inequities, recognizing the "dirty logic" adults use to justify their actions in an unfair world. Steinbeck is a young man of 21 years with an average height (175 cm/5'9") and build (64 kg). He has short blonde hair and blue eyes. His standard outfit consists of a flat cap, a white shirt with rolled-up sleeves, blue overalls with a black belt, and dark boots. He typically carries a raw potato and a Buck Model 110 pocket knife, which he uses to activate his ability. After the Guild war, he adopted a different outfit consisting of white top and pants with buckle-like boots and an overcoat. When using his ability extensively, he sometimes employs his vines as crutches to support himself. Ability Name: The Grapes of Wrath Steinbeck's ability allows him to grow grapevines from any part of his body. By grafting these vines to other plants, he can turn all flora in the vicinity into extensions of himself. These branches can be used offensively to capture and restrain people or objects with tremendous strength, or defensively as shields against attacks. The ability gives him control over a wide area, making him particularly dangerous in vegetation-rich environments. His ability can be combined with other Guild members' powers for strategic purposes - notably with Q's cursing ability, where Steinbeck's plants connected to Q's body would trigger curses against anyone who damaged the plants. He activates his ability using his pocket knife and potato, likely as a focusing tool or catalyst.

Lucy Maud Montgomery is a 19-year-old former member of The Guild, an American ability-user organization. After leaving The Guild, she became a waitress at Café Uzumaki. Orphaned at a young age, Lucy endured harsh treatment at her orphanage where she was labeled a "freak" due to her supernatural ability. She was later recruited by The Guild specifically for this power. Following her defeat by Atsushi Nakajima, she appears to have developed feelings for him, as he showed her genuine kindness and concern—something rare in her life. Her primary motivations include finding acceptance, escaping loneliness, and building meaningful connections after years of being used as a pawn. Lucy presents herself as haughty and rude, but this is largely a defensive facade hiding a deeply twisted personality shaped by trauma. Her years of mistreatment at the orphanage and being valued only for her ability by The Guild left her emotionally scarred and distrustful. Despite her outward hostility, she's vulnerable and desperately fears being alone. She enjoys flights of fancy, romantic things, stuffed animals, and chatting—revealing a gentler side beneath her harsh exterior. After encountering Atsushi's kindness, she begins to show glimpses of a more authentic self, suggesting her capacity for emotional growth and genuine connection when treated with compassion. Lucy is a pale-skinned young woman with a short, slim build, standing at 165cm (5'5"). Her most distinctive features are her long crimson hair styled into two thick braids, choppy bangs, and striking green eyes. She wears a white flower hairpiece on the left side of her head and has braces. A notable scar marks her right arm—a remnant from her orphanage days when she was burned with a hot iron poker. When working as a waitress, she wears an apron and a white triangle headpiece. For disguise purposes, she sometimes dons a straw hat and sunglasses. Despite her somewhat childish appearance, her expressions often reflect her complex inner turmoil. Ability Name: Anne of Abyssal Red Lucy's ability allows her to create an alternate dimensional space called "Anne's Room," which functions as a supernatural game of hide-and-seek. Within this reality, a monster named Anne hunts and captures those trapped inside. The room contains two significant doors: an Exit Door that returns people to the real world (erasing all memories of their time inside) and a Prison Door that leads to where captives are held unconscious. The Prison Door is locked with a morphing key that even Lucy doesn't know how to use properly. The most threatening aspect of her ability is Anne itself—a giant monster with immense strength and speed that can exist in multiple copies simultaneously. When Anne captures someone, giant hands reach from the Prison Door to drag victims inside. This power made Lucy valuable to The Guild but also contributed to her isolation and being labeled a "freak" throughout her life.

Mark Twain is a former member of The Guild, a powerful organization that once clashed with both the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia during the three-way conflict in Yokohama. As one of The Guild's skilled snipers, he participated in the attempted capture of Atsushi Nakajima. Following the Guild's dissolution after Fitzgerald's defeat, Twain chose to return to his homeland to complete his autobiography. His primary motivations include seeking adventure, receiving praise, and maintaining a record of his successful missions in what he calls his "success diary." Twain stands out among Guild members for his jovial, cheerful disposition. He frequently suggests leisure activities and excursions to his more serious colleagues, though they typically reject his ideas. Despite his lighthearted demeanor, he takes immense pride in his marksmanship and ability, keeping detailed records of his successful missions. He shows great affection for his ability manifestations, Huck and Tom, often praising their skills. When engaged in combat, particularly against worthy opponents like Atsushi Nakajima, Twain can become serious and focused. Notably, he's humble enough to acknowledge superior skills in others and graciously accepts defeat when outmatched. He maintained positive relationships with his Guild colleagues, considering the organization "a nice place" even after its dissolution. Mark Twain is a 22-year-old man standing at 178 cm (5'10") with a lean build of 68 kg. He has distinctive dark orange hair swept outwards and striking green eyes. His standard attire consists of a long white sleeve shirt with buttons perpetually undone, black pants with suspenders hanging down rather than over his shoulders, and black sandals. He accessorizes with black bracelets around his ankles and two brown bands on his left wrist. His casual, somewhat disheveled appearance reflects his easygoing personality and contrasts with the more formal attire of many Guild members. Ability Name: Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer Mark Twain's ability manifests as two doll-like creatures named after the protagonists of his namesake's famous novels. These entities allow Twain to achieve absolute shooting accuracy by attaching either Huck or Tom to his bullets, ensuring they hit their targets regardless of distance or obstacles. The ability also enables long-distance surveillance, as Huck and Tom's minds are linked, allowing them to communicate information back to Twain. This makes him exceptionally dangerous as a sniper, capable of tracking targets and making seemingly impossible shots. During combat, he typically uses .50-caliber bullets that can cause massive damage, and his tactical awareness allows him to use environmental factors (such as shooting a tanker truck to create an explosion) to his advantage. The ability's effectiveness is hampered by radar jamming and infrared countermeasures, as demonstrated when Dazai used a saturation chaff smokescreen against him.

Nathaniel Hawthorne is a former member of The Guild who later became affiliated with the Rats in the House of the Dead as an assassin. Originally a deeply religious man who viewed himself as carrying out God's will, he joined Fyodor Dostoevsky's organization to help cure his former Guild colleague Margaret Mitchell, who had fallen into a comatose state. After joining Fyodor, he was apparently brainwashed, becoming an emotionless and robotic assassin. Currently, he is imprisoned in Anne's room. As a former pastor, Hawthorne believes in passing judgment on sinners and initially maintained a sense of religious righteousness in his actions. Hawthorne is a deeply religious man who takes his faith extremely seriously, viewing himself as divinely appointed to judge sinners. This belief gives him an air of arrogance and superiority, even toward allies. Despite his cold, rude, and sometimes ruthless demeanor, he shows patience and care toward Margaret Mitchell, though they often quarrel. He is intelligent, strategic, and typically composed. After falling under Fyodor's influence, his personality drastically changes, becoming almost robotic and emotionless, with theories suggesting his memories and reasoning abilities were altered or removed entirely. In this state, he becomes completely unresponsive to others, functioning solely as Fyodor's assassin. Hawthorne is a tall man (188 cm/6'2") with neatly combed silver hair (depicted as marian blue in the anime) and cyan eyes. He wears gold-rimmed glasses and dresses in a slightly modified black religious habit with a black cape, white cravat, and black shoes. He carries a hidden cross necklace that he can use to cut himself to activate his ability quickly, and is often seen with a Bible. After battling Akutagawa, he wore head bandages. Upon becoming Fyodor's assassin, his appearance changed significantly - he discarded his glasses, his habit became torn and ragged at the sleeves and hem, and he occasionally wore a white mask with red linear accents. In his later appearances, his hair grows considerably longer and more disheveled, and his facial expression becomes notably deadpan and inexpressive. Ability Name: The Scarlet Letter Nathaniel Hawthorne's ability allows him to convert his own blood into holy words that he can control at will. These blood-formed words can be weaponized, fired like bullets toward enemies with devastating impact. Alternatively, he can build them up as a shield to deflect incoming attacks, making his ability versatile for both offense and defense. To activate his ability quickly in combat, Hawthorne carries a hidden cross necklace that he can use to cut himself and draw blood immediately. The ability is named after the famous novel "The Scarlet Letter" written by the real-life Nathaniel Hawthorne, which explores themes of sin, guilt, and public shame.
28. #28Fyodor Dostoevsky

Fyodor Dostoevsky is the enigmatic leader of the Rats in the House of the Dead and the founder of the Decay of the Angel, a terrorist organization he manipulated from the shadows. Known as "The Conjurer," Fyodor is considered a monster by his enemies and is often compared to Osamu Dazai in terms of intellect and cunning. He possesses an immortal-like existence through his ability, having lived for an incalculable number of years by stealing the bodies of those who kill him. His primary motivation is his twisted vision of salvation and purification, seeking to rid the world of abilities which he views as sinful. He manipulates everyone around him, including his own subordinates, viewing them merely as pawns for his grand schemes. Fyodor is exceptionally cunning, unpredictable, and sinister. He remains composed and confident even in dire situations, rarely showing fear toward his enemies. His genius-level intellect, observation skills, and profound understanding of human nature allow him to manipulate even the most intelligent foes. He speaks in a polite, discreet manner and can be deceptively amiable, but beneath this facade lies a completely self-interested individual who views everyone as tools. He frequently references religious concepts, claiming to carry out "God's will" to bring perfection and harmony to the world while committing acts of terrorism with complete nonchalance. Fyodor is utterly ruthless, willing to betray and sacrifice his subordinates once they've served their purpose. As Dazai noted, he doesn't trust anyone he can't manipulate, which is why he has no genuine allies or friends. Fyodor is a tall, slim young man with a thin pale face and long, messy purplish-black hair that reaches his shoulders. His sharp, dark purple eyes give him a perpetually tired look. He dresses formally in a long-sleeved buttoned white shirt with light purple cuffs and outlines, paired with white pants. Over this, he wears a long black coat with yellow buttons that reaches his knees, adorned with white fur. His distinctive look is completed with a white ushanka hat and maroon boots. When imprisoned, he wears standard white prison clothes. He has a habit of biting the tips of his thumbs until they bleed, and claims to have a "weak anemic constitution." Ability Name: Crime and Punishment Crime and Punishment allows Fyodor to steal the body of the person who kills him, turning them into a copy of "Fyodor Dostoevsky." When Fyodor is killed, his blood splashes onto his killer, causing them pain before Fyodor completely takes over their body. This ability has allowed him to live for an incalculable number of years, transferring from body to body throughout history. Uniquely, when affected by Shibusawa's ability-nullifying mist, Crime and Punishment didn't turn against Fyodor, instead declaring itself to be the "punishment" to Fyodor's "crime" and stating they were closely linked. This suggests a deeper, symbiotic relationship between Fyodor and his ability that differs from other ability users.

Alexander Pushkin is a member of the criminal organization known as the Rats in the House of the Dead. Born abroad but raised in Japan, he later escaped from a European prison called Meursault. Despite referring to himself as physically weak, he's a dangerous ability user who takes pride in his power to infect others with a deadly virus. After his capture during the Cannibalism Arc, he was arrested and provided information about the Rats' evidence suppressor that had framed Doppo Kunikida for murder. Pushkin is an animated and sadistic individual who derives pleasure from watching strong ability users suffer. He openly acknowledges his physical weakness, even embracing it as part of his identity with his belief that "Someone as weak as me can get away with anything. Otherwise, it makes no sense for the weak to be ever born!" Despite his self-proclaimed weakness, he displays cunning and deception, successfully tricking Atsushi and Akutagawa by pretending to be a mere hired hand before revealing his true nature. He's opportunistic and cowardly when cornered, quickly offering to remove his virus from infected victims when faced with capture by the Port Mafia and Armed Detective Agency. Pushkin is a mostly bald man with only a small tuft of brown hair on the top of his head. He has brown eyes and typically wears a gray hooded parka over a T-shirt. He is often seen carrying a gun, which he uses to shoot and infect his targets with his ability. Before his true identity was revealed, he created two fake Pushkin identities to mislead the Armed Detective Agency, showing his capability for deception and misdirection. His overall appearance is unassuming, which helps him blend in despite his dangerous abilities. Ability Name: A Feast in Time of Plague Pushkin's ability allows him to infect people with a special type of virus, typically with assistance from other ability users like Nathaniel Hawthorne and Ivan Goncharov. The most notable application of this virus is that when inserted into two people, it causes them to fight each other to the death. The virus remains active in the survivor until one of the infected hosts dies. The full details of the virus are not completely revealed, but it appears to be an "Organ-Eating Virus" that can compel infected individuals to engage in cannibalistic behavior. Pushkin typically delivers the virus by shooting his targets, making his unassuming appearance and carried firearm a deadly combination.

Ivan Goncharov is a member of the Rats in the House of the Dead, a criminal organization led by Fyodor Dostoevsky. He underwent brain surgery performed by Fyodor that removed his ability to feel unhappiness, resulting in his unwavering loyalty and devotion to his "master." Goncharov serves as one of Fyodor's most dedicated operatives, carrying out his orders without question. His primary motivation is to assist Fyodor in his grand schemes, believing that his master brings happiness to a "Godless world." He often refers to himself as Fyodor's "head chamberlain," highlighting his servile relationship to the organization's leader. Goncharov exists in a perpetual state of bliss or manic joy due to the surgical removal of the part of his brain that experiences unhappiness. He is constantly smiling, either serenely content or maniacally ecstatic regardless of circumstances. His devotion to Fyodor borders on religious reverence, willing to do anything his master commands without hesitation or question. In battle, Goncharov maintains his joyful demeanor even when facing powerful opponents or defeat. He's calm, composed, and supremely confident in Fyodor's plans. He has a philosophical side, believing that true happiness comes from surrendering oneself to forces beyond human understanding. Like Fyodor, he appreciates classical music, which they also use as a method of communication. Goncharov has distinctive long, straight silver hair that falls past his mid-back and matching silver eyes that give him an otherworldly appearance. The top of his head is heavily bandaged, presumably covering the scars from Fyodor's surgical procedure. He dresses formally in a white long-sleeved shirt with black sleeve garters, a black tie, and a light brown vest. His outfit is completed with black trousers and plain black shoes. His most striking visual feature is his constant smile, which never wavers regardless of the situation, giving him an unsettling, almost manic appearance that reflects his artificially induced state of perpetual happiness. Ability Name: The Precipice Goncharov's ability, named after the novel by the real-life author Ivan Goncharov, grants him control over earth elements. He can manipulate rock and stone with remarkable precision and power, forming massive golem-like arms or creating floating rocks for omnidirectional offense and defense. His connection to the earth provides him with constant awareness of enemies in his surroundings as long as they are in contact with the ground, making stealth approaches nearly impossible. The rock constructs he creates are incredibly durable, able to withstand repeated powerful attacks from both Atsushi's Beast Beneath the Moonlight and Akutagawa's Rashomon. During battle, he often reminds opponents that "the very earth you stand on is your enemy," highlighting the comprehensive nature of his control over the battlefield terrain.

<Mushitarō Oguri> Mushitarō Oguri is a former captive of The Seventh Agency and a former member of the Rats in the House of the Dead, a criminal organization led by Fyodor Dostoevsky. Known as the "Evidence Suppressor" and self-proclaimed "detective killer," he was exploited by the Seventh Agency to cover up various crimes until Fyodor freed him. In exchange for his freedom, he agreed to assist the Rats in their "cannibalism strategy" under specific conditions. His primary motivation revolves around preserving the legacy of his deceased friend Yokomizo, a mystery writer who entrusted him with his final manuscript, and escaping to another country after fulfilling his role in Fyodor's plans. Mushitarō is somewhat stuck-up and prideful about his ability, considering himself the "king of crime" and an "infallible detective killer." He's pragmatic and self-serving, joining the Rats only to fulfill his personal goals rather than out of loyalty. He's demanding and particular, requiring specific living conditions including occult books, fine china, and starched clothes. Despite his criminal activities, he shows deep emotional attachment to his deceased friend Yokomizo, even breaking down at the mention of him. He's protective of Yokomizo's posthumous reputation and occasionally writes mystery stories himself (though he struggles with them) hoping to feel his friend's presence. He's dramatic and theatrical in his speech, often making grandiose proclamations and occasionally blurting out occult-related sentences. Mushitarō is a 26-year-old man standing at 178 cm (5'10") with a very slim build, weighing only 56 kg. He has dark hair slicked over to the left of his forehead and distinctive yellow eyes with pupils consisting of several concentric rings. He's known for being highly expressive. He dresses sharply in a neat, green, well-fitting suit accessorized with a black bowtie and a pocket square, reflecting his dislike for dressing sloppily. His appearance was altered at some point during his captivity by the Seventh Agency, giving him a different face than he had originally. Ability Name: The Perfect Crime Mushitarō's ability allows him to erase any evidence of a crime with perfect precision. When activated, small, invisible creatures emerge from his body and tamper with objects, removing or altering evidence in ways that confound even exceptional detectives like Ranpo Edogawa. This ability makes him particularly dangerous in the world of crime, as he can commit murders and other offenses while leaving no traceable evidence behind. This power made him valuable to both the Seventh Agency, who exploited him to cover up their crimes, and to Fyodor's Rats in the House of the Dead for their complex criminal operations. His ability is named after a mystery novel by the real-life author Mushitarō Oguri. </Mushitarō Oguri>

<Ōchi Fukuchi> Ōchi Fukuchi (formerly Gen'ichirō Fukuchi) was the captain of the Hunting Dogs special units, a government-sanctioned group tasked with hunting down dangerous criminals. However, in reality, he was also "Kamui," the leader of the terrorist organization Decay of the Angel. A complex figure with a tragic past, Fukuchi was a veteran of the Great War who witnessed and committed atrocities that shaped his worldview. He was childhood friends with Yukichi Fukuzawa, though their paths diverged when Fukuchi joined the military. His primary motivation was preventing another war by eliminating those he believed responsible for such conflicts—politicians, whom he called "angels." Despite his methods, Fukuchi genuinely believed he was working toward world peace. Fukuchi maintained two distinct personas. As the Hunting Dogs captain, he presented as eccentric, boastful, and somewhat vulgar—drinking excessively, making crude jokes, and behaving shamefully. This facade concealed his true nature as Kamui, which was darker, more serious, and ruthlessly efficient. However, even this was not his core personality. At heart, Fukuchi was a deeply traumatized soldier haunted by wartime experiences, who believed extreme measures were necessary to prevent future suffering. He was remarkably charismatic, able to inspire loyalty and awe in those around him. Despite his apparent resentment toward Fukuzawa, he still considered him a friend. Fukuchi was honorable in his own way, allowing enemies fair chances in combat and taking no joy in his villainous role, seeing it merely as necessary for his greater goal of preventing war. Fukuchi was a tall, middle-aged man (45 years old, 190cm tall) with a commanding presence. He wore the Hunting Dogs uniform—an army green (dark red in the anime) military outfit with a long cape and tall black boots—modified with rolled-up sleeves and white half-palm gloves. He had light, spiky hair with two strands falling in front of his face, and a distinctive upward mustache. His hairline formed a lightning bolt shape on the left side of his face. His vibrant purple eyes had wrinkles beneath them, and his chiseled jawline gave his face a square-like shape. Most notably, he bore three distinct healed scars on his right cheek that resembled claw marks. After wielding the Holy Sword Soluz Levni, he gained a distinctive mark on the back of his hand that allowed him to control vampires. In his youth, he had shorter hair and no mustache, and during his teenage years, he wore traditional hakama and keikogi for kendo training. Ability Name: Mirror Lion Fukuchi's ability, named after a kabuki play by the real-life author Ōchi Fukuchi, allowed him to increase the strength of any weapon he wielded by 100-fold. This made even ordinary objects like handrails into devastating weapons capable of cutting through almost anything with tremendous speed and power. Combined with his swordsmanship, this ability made him one of the most formidable fighters in the series.

Beyond his ability, Fukuchi possessed exceptional skills in espionage and martial arts. He was once known as "The Man of a Hundred Faces" due to his legendary infiltration skills, able to maintain convincing personas that fooled even the most observant individuals. He was also proficient in various combat techniques, including aikido throws similar to those used by Fukuzawa. Additionally, after defeating the vampire Bram Stoker with the Holy Sword Soluz Levni, he gained control over Bram's ability and other vampires, marked by a symbol on his hand. </Ōchi Fukuchi>

Bram Stoker was a powerful member of the Decay of the Angel, a dangerous organization threatening world stability. Formerly an earl in Northern Europe, he was transformed into a vampire through cell mutation caused by an ability. His power was so destructive that governments classified him as one of the "Top Ten Calamities to Destroy the World." Despite this fearsome reputation, Bram was largely disinterested in world affairs, preferring to sleep in his coffin for extended periods. After a confrontation with Ōchi Fukuchi, he was left in a decapitated state with the Holy Sword Soluz Levni piercing his body, which allowed Fukuchi to control him against his will. His primary motivation appeared to be simple solitude and rest, though he developed a protective relationship with Aya Kōda. Bram presented as emotionless and detached, with his primary desire being uninterrupted sleep in his coffin. Despite his aloof nature, he admitted to boredom during his long periods of rest. He harbored disdain for "insolent people," particularly Fukuchi, whom he viewed as cursed. Bram showed little interest in world affairs or stopping Fukuchi's plans, caring only to be left alone. He appeared to regret his vampiric nature, having vowed not to create more of his kind after being labeled a calamity. When with Aya Kōda, he revealed a softer, more engaged side, sharing personal stories and showing genuine concern for her safety. His knowledge of the modern world was limited due to his isolation, often misinterpreting contemporary objects and customs. Bram was a tall, slim man with an appearance both youthful and ancient. His vampire nature was evident in his fangs and distinctive triangular-shaped pointed ears resembling those of elves. He had long, wavy hair reaching below his shoulders and two scars on his face, one on each side, with distinct markings beneath his eyes. His attire consisted of a black trench coat with ripped sides and dark gray fur wrist cuffs, black pants, and brown boots with dark gray fur near the ankles. For most of his appearances during the Decay of the Angel incident, he existed in a decapitated state, with the Holy Sword Soluz Levni attached to his lower body and stretched up to his brain. Ability Name: Draculea Bram's ability, Draculea, allowed him to transform anyone he bit into a vampire, with the victim becoming the next aggressor in a rapidly spreading infection chain. The infection rate surpassed even the South American werewolf incident in speed and virulence. Bram maintained complete control over all victims infected by his ability and those they subsequently infected, enabling him to quickly build an army of loyal subordinates. His power could potentially resurrect the dead by transforming them into his "kind," as demonstrated with Akutagawa. This devastating potential earned his ability classification as one of the "Top Ten Calamities to Destroy the World," capable of causing wide-scale death, destruction, and chaos on a global level.

Nikolai Gogol is a former member of the Decay of the Angel, a terrorist organization described as a "murder association" consisting of five individuals. Known as "The Clown," he is a sadistic and theatrical ability user who takes pleasure in tormenting his opponents. Despite his villainous role, he claims to have joined the Decay of the Angel in pursuit of freedom, wanting to "soar as freely as birds do" and break free from what he calls "the inherent brainwashing we call morality." Gogol is highly skilled in disguise, once maintaining a cover as a secretary for half a year without detection. Gogol is flamboyantly sadistic with a theatrical flair, often posing threats as "quizzes" to his victims. He displays a complex duality in his character, suggesting his eccentric persona may or may not be his true self. He claims both sides of him are real—the remorseless killer who enjoys tormenting others and the person who understands his actions are wrong and feels guilt. Despite this internal conflict, he pursues what he calls "freedom for his soul," rejecting conventional morality as a form of imprisonment. He's whimsical, unpredictable, and maintains a playful demeanor even during brutal acts of violence. Despite his former allegiance to the Decay of the Angel, he appears to harbor no hard feelings toward its leader, Fyodor Dostoevsky, whom he casually nicknames "Dostoy." Gogol has a striking appearance with sharp, layered white hair swept to the left side of his face, complemented by a long braid that rests on his right shoulder. A vertical scar runs down his left eye, while his right eye appears vacant, lacking highlights and covered by a card-styled mask or eye patch. His attire resembles that of a circus ringmaster: a black jacket (solid black on the right side), black-and-white striped trousers, a shirt with a ruffled collar similar to a loose turtleneck, dark gloves, and a top hat with a diamond pattern. Standing at 184 cm (6'0") with a weight of 68 kg, his entire appearance reflects his eccentric personality. He's highly skilled in disguise, able to completely change his appearance to infiltrate various situations undetected. Ability Name: The Overcoat Named after a short story by the real-life Nikolai Gogol, this ability allows him to manipulate space using his coat. The Overcoat functions as both a portal system and a pocket dimension. Gogol can create spatial gateways that relocate objects and living beings between different locations, with a range of up to 30 meters. He can make his hand and gun appear in spaces completely unrelated to his position, drop objects through one portal and have them emerge elsewhere at a time of his choosing, or even "sever" parts of a person's body by trapping them in a separate space (as he did with Atsushi's leg, trapping it on the floor while keeping the nervous connection intact). This versatile spatial manipulation makes him extremely dangerous in combat, allowing him to attack from unexpected angles and create complex traps that are difficult to predict or counter.

Sigma is a former member of the Decay of the Angel and the general manager of the Sky Casino. Born unnaturally from being written into "The Book," he emerged with no memories, family, or identity, finding himself in an empty desert with only clothes and a non-existent train ticket. After wandering and being captured by armed groups who exploited his ability, he eventually escaped and was recruited by Fyodor Dostoevsky into the Decay of the Angel. Finding purpose in managing the Sky Casino, he developed a fierce attachment to it as the only place he could call home. His primary motivation is finding a reason to exist and protecting what he considers his family—the casino and its employees. Sigma presents a composed, confident façade as a capable leader and casino manager, especially in front of his staff and customers. However, when alone, he reveals profound insecurity about his abilities and place in the world. He's kind to casino patrons and fiercely protective of his establishment, refusing to close it even under pressure. Despite his calm exterior, he's desperate and implacable in his quest for purpose, willing to do anything to protect the casino that gives his existence meaning. He struggles with existential emptiness, having no natural talents or memories to define him, leading to both nihilistic tendencies and a deep yearning for connection and purpose. Sigma is a young man standing at 177 cm (5'9") with a slender build weighing 62 kg. His most distinctive feature is his long, straight hair that reaches his waist, uniquely colored with lilac on the left side and white on the right side. His hair is parted in the middle with loose spikes throughout. He has grayish eyes and wears earrings in both ears. His standard attire consists of a long white coat with a sparkly or galactic design on the interior, paired with black pants. The overall effect is striking and memorable, befitting his position as the manager of a high-end casino. Ability Name: Information Exchange Ability (unnamed) Sigma's ability allows him to exchange information with anyone he touches. The exchange works as a trade: he gives the person information they want to know, and in return, he receives information he wants to know from them. This ability makes him extremely valuable for intelligence gathering, which is why he was recruited by the Decay of the Angel and why his captors exploited him. He used this ability to obtain information about the location of a "page" from "The Book" from Santōka Taneda, the Special Division for Unusual Powers director. While not combat-oriented, this ability gives Sigma significant strategic value in information warfare.

<Teruko Ōkura> Teruko Ōkura is the vice-captain of the Hunting Dogs, a special government unit tasked with maintaining order through extreme force. Initially appearing as a young girl, she's actually a seasoned operative who uses her ability to manipulate her age for various purposes. She serves directly under Captain Ōchi Fukuchi, for whom she has an obsessive admiration. Teruko considers herself a "Protector of Justice" and believes the Hunting Dogs are necessary "slaves to society" who use "ultimate violence" to maintain order. Despite the toll her work takes on her body (requiring monthly maintenance surgeries), she remains fanatically devoted to her role and organization until her death at the hands of Ame-no-Gozen. Teruko is intense, boastful, and extraordinarily aggressive with an extremely short fuse. She revels in her power and status, often threatening graphic violence against those who oppose her. Known as the "blood-briar queen," she's feared even by allies for her bloodthirst and violent tendencies. Despite her terrifying reputation, she's completely obedient and submissive to Captain Fukuchi, harboring an abnormal obsession with him. She takes her duties as a Hunting Dog with extreme seriousness, considering herself a hero willing to sacrifice body and soul for societal order. She enjoys combat and continues fighting even when severely injured, displaying a disturbing combination of sadism and self-righteousness in her actions. In her default form, Teruko appears as a short young girl with light dusty rose-colored hair styled in a wavy ponytail tied with a large ribbon. She has striking red eyes and wears the standard Hunting Dogs uniform with a specially designed hat to accommodate her hairstyle. She carries a steel whip as her primary weapon and a sword at her side. Using her ability, she can transform herself into different ages, including an adult woman with a mature physique or an elderly lady, which she uses for disguise and tactical advantages. Her transformation is complete, altering her entire physical appearance while maintaining her distinctive hair color. Ability Name: Gasp of the Soul Teruko's ability allows her to manipulate the age of anyone she touches, including herself. She primarily uses this power for interrogation and torture, rapidly aging victims to elderly states where they develop various age-related illnesses and maladies, then quickly reverting them to youth. This rapid age manipulation puts severe psychological strain on victims as their bodies change faster than they can acclimate to new sensations, making it an effective torture method without leaving physical wounds. She can also use this ability on herself, allowing her to alter her physical age for disguise purposes or to mature her body to a physically stronger adult form during combat. The ability is named after a mystery story by the real-life author Teruko Ōkura. </Teruko Ōkura>

<Michizō Tachihara> Michizō Tachihara is a complex figure who operated as a double spy—serving as a Black Lizard battalion leader in the Port Mafia while secretly being the fifth member of the government's Hunting Dogs special unit. His primary motivation initially appeared to be vengeance against Akiko Yosano, whom he blamed for his brother's death. Later, his true motivation was revealed to be escaping his brother's shadow and forging his own identity. Though he eventually denounced his Hunting Dogs affiliation and fully committed to the Port Mafia. At 19 years old, he lives between two worlds, carrying the burden of his dual loyalties. Tachihara presents himself as arrogant, impulsive, and hot-headed, quick to solve problems through violence with his dual guns. He frequently clashes with fellow mafiosi, particularly Gin Akutagawa, and reluctantly follows Hirotsu's orders when threatened. Behind this brash exterior lies a calculating, rational mind capable of recognizing danger and formulating strategic plans. He values orders above all else, seeing them as what defines him. His tough demeanor masks deep-seated insecurities and feelings of inferiority compared to his "perfect" older brother. This insecurity drove him to delinquency and eventually to the Hunting Dogs, seeking an identity neither like his brother nor his opposite. Despite his criminal activities, he shows genuine care for comrades, experiencing guilt when forced to harm them for his mission, and displays patience with demanding personalities like Teruko and Elise. Tachihara is a slightly imposing young man standing at 176 cm (5'9") with short, spiky rust-red dyed hair (naturally black) and amber eyes. His most distinctive feature is a plaster bandage across the bridge of his nose—originally chosen as part of his disguise when infiltrating the Mafia, serving as his "switch" between identities. His standard outfit consists of a baggy white V-neck shirt with black borders and the left sleeve rolled up, partially covered by a military green crop jacket with beige fur around the collar. Underneath, he wears a gun strap for his dual pistols. He completes his look with dark blue pants, brown boots, and a black band on his left wrist. When operating as a Hunting Dog, he dons the standard Hunting Dogs cape and cap along with his usual attire, plus his late brother's dog tag. Ability Name: Midwinter Memento Tachihara possesses ferrokinesis—the ability to manipulate metal objects remotely. Named after a poem by the real-life Michizō Tachihara, this ability allows him to control any metal object with precision, primarily his Hunting Dogs blade and guns. He can make weapons float in midair and even manipulate metal mannequins like humans. This ability makes him particularly effective at stealing, altering information, and assassination—skills that make him "born to be a spy" according to Teruko. As a Hunting Dog, he underwent enhancement surgery that made him physically stronger and more durable than average humans and ability users, though his enhancement was less extensive than other Hunting Dogs due to his role as a spy. This still allows him to withstand significant damage, including explosions, with minimal injury. </Michizō Tachihara>

<Saigiku Jōno> Saigiku Jōno is a member of the Hunting Dogs special unit, an elite government task force. Formerly an executive in a criminal organization, he was recruited by Ōchi Fukuchi who saw great potential in his abilities. Despite his official role as a law enforcer, Jōno has deeply sadistic tendencies, openly admitting he enjoys tormenting criminals under the protection of legal authority. He considers himself the "strongest Hunting Dog" due to his expertise in investigations and interrogations. His primary motivation is finding opportunities to inflict suffering on others while receiving praise from society for his actions, describing himself as a "public evil." Jōno presents a calm, composed exterior that masks a fierce temper and sadistic nature. He's highly antagonistic, frequently making harsh threats and remarks toward colleagues, particularly Tetchō Suehiro. He's easily irritated by interruptions, perceived injustice, and intense emotions from others. Behind his professional demeanor lies a disturbing enjoyment in tormenting suspects during interrogations, finding pleasure in extracting information through psychological torture. He harbors no moral qualms about his methods, openly admitting he simply wants to "hear someone's anguished voice" and "the sound of their destruction." Despite working for law enforcement, his motivation is primarily self-gratification rather than justice. Jōno is a young man standing at 181cm with distinctive white hair that fades to red tips. He wears the standard Hunting Dogs uniform, complemented by a long earring with a bell attached to his right ear. His most notable physical characteristic is his blindness, though this isn't immediately apparent due to his exceptional ability to navigate and perceive his surroundings. He maintains a nonchalant expression even when performing arrests or making threats, rarely showing emotion except when irritated by his colleagues. Ability Name: Priceless Tears Named after a kabuki play by the real-life Saigiku Jōno, this ability allows him to manipulate and disintegrate his own body into particles resembling an afterglow. This transformation enables him to slip through small spaces such as air conditioners and door gaps, making him virtually immune to conventional weapons like guns and swords. The ability makes him exceptionally difficult to capture or injure, as physical attacks simply pass through his disintegrated form.

Additionally, to compensate for his blindness, Jōno has developed heightened senses that border on supernatural. He can detect people's body processes including perspiration, body temperature, muscle sounds, heartbeat, breathing, and even emotional states like resentment. This sensory acuity makes him immune to illusion-based abilities and allows him to track targets by sensing their presence through the ground. His extraordinary hearing enables him to "hear secrets," making him invaluable during interrogations and investigations. </Saigiku Jōno>

<Tetchō Suehiro> Tetchō Suehiro is a member of the Hunting Dogs special unit. Known by the alias "Meteor-Slasher," he serves as one of the primary agents tasked with hunting down dangerous ability users. Unlike some of his more sadistic colleagues, Tetchō demonstrates a strong sense of justice and fairness, preferring negotiation over torture during interrogations. He possesses the strongest physical prowess among the Hunting Dogs and is a skilled negotiator. His primary motivation appears to be upholding justice and maintaining balance in the world. Tetchō has a serious, no-nonsense demeanor but is notably eccentric in his habits. He combines similar-colored foods when eating (such as putting shichimi spice on strawberries or eating hard-boiled eggs with the shell on), can observe ant colonies for eight straight hours, and performs muscle training intermittently, even during meetings. Despite his quirks, he's the most compassionate member of the Hunting Dogs, openly expressing distaste for those who torture others during investigations. He values sincerity and is willing to bend rules to ensure fairness, as shown when he granted Agency members a proper trial when someone vouched for them. His strong moral compass is summarized in his own words: "There is evil that goes unpunished and good that goes unrewarded. Without my blade, how could anything in this mortal world ever hope for balance!?" Tetchō is a tall young man (184cm) with wild brown hair that strays in numerous directions, with bangs falling in front of his face. Two thin strands of hair in the back are longer than the rest. His most distinctive facial feature is three markings beneath his left eye. He wears the standard Hunting Dogs uniform, which includes a military-style outfit. He carries a saber as his primary weapon, which becomes the conduit for his ability. His appearance conveys his disciplined nature while his wild hair hints at his eccentric personality. Ability Name: Plum Blossoms in Snow Tetchō's ability allows him to manipulate the size, shape, and length of his sword at will. This power is primarily demonstrated with his saber, enabling him to extend its reach unexpectedly in combat or alter its form to suit different combat situations. The ability makes him exceptionally dangerous in close combat, as opponents cannot predict the range or configuration his blade might take. Combined with his superior physical prowess, this ability makes him one of the most formidable fighters in the Hunting Dogs. The ability is named after "A Political Novel: Plum Blossoms in Snow," a work by the real-life Tetchō Suehiro, reflecting the naming convention of abilities in the series. </Tetchō Suehiro>

<Santōka Taneda> Santōka Taneda is the director of the Special Division for Unusual Powers, a government agency that deals with ability users in Japan. He maintains connections with both the Armed Detective Agency and Port Mafia, having helped establish the former and issued a skilled business permit to the latter. Though currently hospitalized after being attacked by a member of the terrorist group Decay of the Angel, he remains a significant figure in managing ability users across Yokohama. His primary motivation appears to be maintaining peace in Japan, even if it means making morally ambiguous decisions like ordering the assassination rather than arrest of dangerous individuals. Taneda possesses what Fukuzawa describes as "a ridiculous personality, a strange man in terms of a normal person." He is pragmatic and willing to bend rules when necessary, believing that protecting the country sometimes requires sacrificing good people. He demonstrates a calm, authoritative demeanor when issuing orders, even controversial ones. Despite limited screen time, he shows himself to be decisive and uncompromising when dealing with threats to national security. He appears to have good judgment of character, having helped Dazai find his place in the Agency after leaving the Port Mafia. Taneda is a middle-aged man of 50 years, standing tall at 185 cm with a robust build of 98 kg. He is completely bald with green eyes and wears glasses. His standard attire consists of a traditional Japanese kimono worn under a black haori (a thigh-length kimono-style jacket). This formal traditional Japanese clothing reflects his position of authority and possibly his traditional values. His appearance is dignified and imposing, befitting his role as the director of a government agency. Ability Name: Hail in the Begging Bowl Taneda's ability allows him to immediately perceive and understand the nature of someone else's ability when activated in his vicinity. This power of ability perception makes him uniquely qualified for his position overseeing ability users throughout Japan. The ability is named after a haiku poem by the real-life Santōka Taneda, specifically referencing the second stanza which represents the poverty the poet experienced as a monk. The name suggests receiving something unwanted (hail) in something meant to collect alms (begging bowl), possibly reflecting how his ability forces unwanted revelations. </Santōka Taneda>

Ango Sakaguchi is a government worker serving as an assistant counselor for the Special Division for Unusual Powers. He has a complex past as a triple agent who previously infiltrated both the Port Mafia and Mimic as a spy. Four years before the main storyline, he formed a close friendship with Osamu Dazai and Sakunosuke Oda during the "Dark Era," though this relationship was strained when his true identity as a government spy was revealed. Ango deeply values human life, meticulously documenting the lives of deceased mafiosi after the Dragon's Head Conflict to ensure their families were notified while protecting the Port Mafia's secrecy. Though accused of being the leader of the mysterious Seventh Agency by Mushitaro Oguri, Ango denied this claim, stating it was a lie spread by Fyodor Dostoevsky. His primary motivation is to fulfill his duty as a government agent while maintaining his personal principles regarding the value of human life. Ango is composed, calm, and disciplined, often serving as the voice of reason among his more volatile friends. He is meticulous and detail-oriented in his work, taking his responsibilities seriously whether as a spy or government worker. Despite his profession requiring deception, he genuinely valued his friendships with Dazai and Oda, struggling with the strain caused by his revealed identity. He shows great respect for human life, believing that "the death of a person is not just some number" and that "every one of their lives must have some meaning." Even after his fallout with Dazai, he maintains respect for him, though he appears increasingly exhausted by Dazai's theatrical and manipulative tendencies. Ango approaches his work with professionalism and restraint, balancing his duties with his personal moral code. Ango is a tall man standing at 178 cm (5'10") with a lean build of 63 kg. He has short, dark hair with bangs cut to show his eyebrows, and light-colored eyes behind circular-framed glasses. His most distinctive facial feature is a mole above his lip on the left side of his face. He typically dresses in professional attire, wearing a pale brown double-breasted coat buttoned to the left over a tab-collared shirt with a kobicha brown tie. His pants match his coat, and his shoes are roughly the same color as his tie. In the anime, his hair is portrayed as somewhat messier than in the manga. Overall, his appearance reflects his serious, professional demeanor. Ability Name: Discourse on Decadence Ango's ability allows him to read memories left in objects, essentially functioning as psychometry or memory extraction. When touching an item, he can access the memories and information imprinted upon it, making him exceptionally valuable for intelligence gathering and investigation. The ability can put considerable mental strain on Ango if he hasn't acclimated to the information influx, and in the past, his brain has temporarily shut down consciousness to sort through large amounts of information gained through his ability. Discourse on Decadence may also work on humans, as evidenced when he offered to read information transmitted to Atsushi Nakajima by Sigma to locate Kamui. Named after the famous essay by the real-life Ango Sakaguchi comparing postwar and prewar Japanese identity, this ability reflects the character's role in uncovering hidden truths.

Mizuki Tsujimura is a rookie agent of the Special Division for Unusual Powers (SDUP) under Ango Sakaguchi's supervision. After her mother (who shared the same name) perished in the Reigo Island Seventeen-Victim Massacre, Tsujimura joined the SDUP and became the handler for detective Yukito Ayatsuji, a Special A-Grade Dangerous Skill User. Her primary motivation is to learn more about her estranged mother and the circumstances surrounding her death, as she was supposedly killed by Ayatsuji's ability. Despite Ayatsuji's difficult personality, she remains determined to fulfill her duties while seeking answers about her past. She operates under the agent code 4048 and is 24 years old. Tsujimura is dedicated, respectful to her seniors, and confident in her abilities—she considers her performance "top-notch" and believes she has more drive than anyone else. Her peers see her as a "woman of mystery." Though kind and genuine, she can be slightly gullible, falling for Ayatsuji's tricks. Both Ayatsuji and Ango describe her as "too easy to read," yet she possesses strong will and determination. She maintains a strict demeanor when reprimanding Ayatsuji for his unorthodox behavior but struggles to get him to follow protocol. Despite being constantly annoyed by his theatrics, she respects him highly and is susceptible to his compliments. She's inspired by spy films and has adopted the motto "Your biggest mistake was being born in the same era as me" from her favorite movie. Tsujimura is a fair-skinned young woman with a slender physique standing at 167 cm (5'4"). She has distinctive lavender, almond-shaped eyes and turquoise hair styled in a high bun with bangs parted to the left over her forehead and curled strands framing her face. She wears light makeup including turquoise eyeshadow and pale lipstick. Her standard outfit consists of a white dress shirt, an unbuttoned gray suit coat with sleeves folded along her forearms, matching gray slacks, and black heels. Her accessories include a white neck scarf with cyan floral patterns, gray gloves, and a dark gray belt. She's sometimes depicted wearing dark-colored sheer stockings. During her teenage years, she had shorter hair with bangs swept to the left and wore a standard Japanese school uniform (seifuku). Ability Name: Yesterday's Shadow Tag Tsujimura's ability summons the "Shadow Child," an ability-derived life-form lurking in her shadow that takes the form of a bipedal, goat-horned beast with a black scythe. Similar to Kyōka Izumi's case, this ability was transferred to her by her mother and is not truly her own. Tsujimura doesn't have complete control over it, as it only follows the command placed on it by her mother: "murder anyone Tsujimura tries to kill." The ability activates immediately when she intends to kill someone, with the Shadow Child slaughtering the target faster than she can, making it impossible for Tsujimura to kill anyone herself. The ability activated five years ago after her mother's death, which Ango asked her to consider as a "gift" from her mother.

Though not extensively featured in the series, Aoki is a competent operative who appears during crucial moments involving government intervention. His primary motivation appears to be fulfilling his duties as a government agent and protecting his superiors, particularly Ango and Division Chief Santōka Taneda. Aoki maintains a consistently calm demeanor even in tense situations. He is professional, diligent, and quick to act when threats emerge. He shows concern for his superiors, particularly Division Chief Taneda, suggesting a sense of loyalty beyond mere professional obligation. Despite his limited appearances, he demonstrates the composure expected of a government operative trained to handle dangerous ability users. He follows orders without question but isn't afraid to voice concerns when appropriate, as shown when he questioned Ango's decision to leave the hospitalized Taneda. Aoki has short, spiky black hair with slight bangs on his forehead. A distinctive feature is his goatee, which adds to his serious appearance. He dresses in a standard black suit with a blue tie and black leather shoes, the uniform of government agents. During operations, he sometimes wears black gloves. Yachiyo Murakoso is a government agent working for the Home of Ministry Affairs' Special Division for Unusual Powers. She serves as an escort and bodyguard for Ango Sakaguchi, a high-ranking intelligence officer. Despite her secondary role in the narrative, she represents the government's interest in ability users and their regulation. Her primary motivations appear to be fulfilling her duties as a government agent and protecting her colleagues, particularly Ango Sakaguchi and Santōka Taneda. Yachiyo presents as a laidback individual, frequently seen chewing bubble gum which adds to her casual demeanor. However, beneath this relaxed exterior lies a professional agent capable of swift action when necessary. She displays genuine emotion and frustration when her colleague Santōka Taneda is hospitalized, showing regret for failing to protect him adequately. This suggests a strong sense of duty and personal responsibility toward her teammates. While not extensively developed in the series, she appears to be loyal to her organization and takes her protective duties seriously. Yachiyo has distinctive dark red spiky hair styled in two low ponytails. Her professional attire consists of a black blazer worn over a white shirt, paired with a black straight skirt. She accessorizes with a necklace. Her most notable feature is the katana she carries at all times as her primary weapon. Her appearance combines professional government agent aesthetics with a slightly rebellious edge suggested by her spiky red hair and ever-present bubble gum. It is officially unknown whether Yachiyo possesses a supernatural ability. However, she demonstrates exceptional skill with her katana, displaying swift and precise movements that suggest extensive training. During an encounter with Osamu Dazai, she immediately responded to a perceived threat by pointing her blade at him with considerable skill and speed after he pointed a gun at Ango. While not confirmed to be an ability user, her combat prowess makes her a formidable agent even among those with supernatural powers.

<Kyōka Izumi> Kyōka Izumi is a 14-year-old former Port Mafia assassin who defected to join the Armed Detective Agency. Once known as the "Thirty-Five Count Murderess," she was orphaned at a young age after her parents were killed by her own ability (which originally belonged to her mother). After being taken in by the Port Mafia, she served as an assassin under Kōyō Ozaki's guidance. Following her encounter with Atsushi Nakajima, she defected to the Agency seeking redemption and a new purpose. She is driven by a desire to prove she is more than just a killer and to protect Yokohama, even willing to sacrifice herself for the city during the Guild war. Initially, Kyōka was emotionless and doll-like as a Mafia assassin, ruthlessly following orders without question. After joining the Agency, she develops a more complex personality, struggling to balance her dark past with her desire for redemption. She has a shaky moral compass, willing to become a criminal or harm others to protect herself and the Agency when necessary. Despite her violent capabilities, she works hard to minimize casualties and subdue rather than kill. Beneath her serious exterior, she shows childlike fascination with simple pleasures like sweets, toys, and exploring the city. She's particularly fond of crêpes, tofu, and the rabbit plush toy Atsushi gave her. Kyōka is incredibly determined, strong-willed, and willing to sacrifice herself for others, gradually developing self-worth and purpose through her work with the Agency. Kyōka is a petite 14-year-old girl standing at 148 cm (4'10"). She has dark blue hair (black in the manga) tied into two low twin-tails with flower pins and clear blue eyes—which were once dull during her time with the Port Mafia. She consistently wears a traditional red kimono with sprout patterns and a yellow datejime (kimono belt), along with white socks and sandals. On her arms, she wears yellow and red wrist pads. She always carries a tiny rabbit doll and a cellphone attached to a necklace, which is crucial for controlling her ability. Throughout the series, she occasionally wears other outfits including a maid uniform, worker disguises, a white gown while in custody, and military police riot gear during certain operations. Ability Name: Demon Snow (Yasha Shirayuki) Kyōka's ability allows her to materialize a female sword-wielding phantom called Demon Snow. Originally, this ability belonged to her mother, who transferred it to Kyōka in her dying moments to protect her. Due to the rushed transfer, control of the ability was initially linked to Kyōka's cellphone rather than Kyōka herself, making her unable to control it directly. After joining the Agency, Yukichi Fukuzawa fixed this issue, allowing her to control Demon Snow normally. Beyond her ability, Kyōka possesses exceptional skills in acrobatics, swordsmanship, infiltration (including lockpicking and disguise), memorization (knowing all of Yokohama's roads by heart), driving, and knowledge of human anatomy and acupuncture—all developed during her time as an assassin. </Kyōka Izumi>

Katai Tayama is a former member of the Armed Detective Agency who now works as an information broker. A reclusive individual often described as a hikikomori (shut-in), he rarely leaves his home and prefers to spend his days wrapped in his futon. Despite his social anxiety, his exceptional information processing abilities make him a valuable asset when technological expertise is needed. He has a long-standing connection with Kunikida, who originally recruited him to the Agency ten years prior to the main storyline. Katai is extremely anxious, nervous, and easily stressed, particularly in social situations. He actively avoids human interaction and communication, preferring isolation within the comfort of his home. His reclusive tendencies have led Kunikida to label him a hikikomori. Despite these limitations, Katai possesses a brilliant mind capable of processing vast amounts of information at remarkable speeds. He's most comfortable and effective when in his relaxed state, typically while wrapped in his futon. Though socially awkward, he maintains a sense of duty when called upon by his former Agency colleagues. Katai is a thin man standing at 175 cm (5'9") and weighing only 53 kg, suggesting his reclusive lifestyle. He has black hair and wears small circular glasses that accentuate his intellectual appearance. His standard attire consists of a white button-up shirt with a patterned robe draped over his shoulders, paired with dark pants. He's most commonly found wrapped in or near his futon, which serves both as comfort and as a catalyst for his ability. His slender frame and perpetually nervous demeanor give him a fragile appearance despite his powerful ability. Ability Name: Futon Named after the famous work by the real-life author Katai Tayama, this ability allows him to manipulate electrical signals within his line of sight. This grants him control over any electronic device he can see, from computers to traffic lights. More impressively, Futon enhances his mental processing capabilities, allowing him to analyze information dozens of times faster than an average human. While initially thought to only function when he's wrapped in his futon (where he feels most relaxed and comfortable), he has demonstrated the ability to use his power without it when necessary. The ability makes him an exceptional hacker and information analyst, able to bypass security systems and process complex data with remarkable efficiency.

The Armed Detective Agency is a private detective organization based in Yokohama, Japan, specializing in solving crimes too violent or difficult for the metropolitan police to handle, particularly those of supernatural origin. Led by Yukichi Fukuzawa, the Agency employs ability users—individuals with supernatural powers—to investigate and resolve cases that often involve other ability users. The Agency operates with police-like authority, allowing them to carry weapons under certain conditions, access police records, and even engage in operations that would normally be considered unethical or illegal. They maintain connections with various government agencies and military personnel, handling classified information due to the nature of their work. The Agency stands as one of the three major power players in Yokohama, alongside the Port Mafia and the Guild, often finding themselves in conflicts with these organizations while trying to maintain peace in the city. Founded over a decade ago by Yukichi Fukuzawa after his encounter with Ranpo Edogawa, the Agency has grown into a respected organization despite its relatively small size. The Agency has weathered numerous crises, including the "Three-Way Battle" between themselves, the Port Mafia, and the American organization known as the Guild. During this conflict, they temporarily allied with their longtime enemies, the Port Mafia, to drive the Guild from Yokohama.

Later, they faced the "Cannibalistic Mutual Destruction" incident where both their leader and the Port Mafia's boss were infected with a deadly virus by the terrorist organization "Rats in the House of the Dead," forcing another temporary alliance. Most recently, the Agency was framed as terrorists by the organization "Decay of the Angel" during a hostage situation, causing them to become fugitives pursued by the government's Hunting Dogs unit. The Agency operates from an office building in Yokohama, functioning as a legitimate business that takes client requests. Prospective members must pass an entrance exam that evaluates their righteousness, prowess, wisdom, morality, and "genuineness of spirit." These exams are tailored to each candidate and often involve life-or-death situations that test their character and resolve.

The Agency is divided into detectives (ability users who handle cases) and clerks (support staff). All official members are affected by Fukuzawa's ability "All Men Are Equal," which enhances their abilities and creates a psychic link between them. When necessary, the Agency can split into offensive and defensive teams to handle multiple threats simultaneously.

The Agency maintains a strict moral code of protecting innocent lives, though individual members may have different interpretations of this principle. Despite their often antagonistic relationship with the Port Mafia, circumstances have occasionally forced them to work together against greater threats to Yokohama. </Structure and Operations> The Armed Detective Agency handles a wide range of operations:

    1. Criminal investigations that exceed police capabilities
    2. Countering ability-user crimes and terrorism
    3. Protection of Yokohama from supernatural threats
    4. Rescue operations during disasters or ability-related incidents
    5. Intelligence gathering on dangerous individuals and organizations
    6. Occasional collaboration with government agencies on special cases
    7. Direct confrontation with hostile organizations like the Port Mafia and The Guild

The Agency accepts client requests from both individuals and organizations, charging fees based on the complexity and danger of the case. However, they have been known to take on pro bono cases when innocent lives are at stake.

Despite their relatively small size compared to organizations like the Port Mafia, the Agency has repeatedly demonstrated their effectiveness in major conflicts, including the three-way battle with the Port Mafia and The Guild, the Cannibalism incident, and confrontations with the Rats in the House of the Dead. Their success stems from the strategic deployment of their members' unique abilities and the strong tactical leadership of individuals like Dazai and Fukuzawa. The Armed Detective Agency's office sits at the top of a slope near Yokohama's port. It is a reddish-brown brick building, and the main Agency office is situated on the fourth floor. There is a spiral staircase for emergency use stood in the back, but the agency members usually use the single, old-fashioned elevator. Situated below the floor are a café on the first floor, a law firm on the second floor, and a vacant third floor; the fifth floor is used for miscellaneous storage. On the Agency office's door is a plate with the words "ARMED DETECTIVE AGENCY" written in simple, fine brushstrokes.[note 1] Although the building shows signs of depreciation through the years since its establishment, it is sturdy enough to withstand a machine gun-artillery fire from the outside without damaging the inside.

The interior of the office consists of an office floor, a reception area, a conference room, the president's office, an infirmary, an operating room, and a kitchenette. Inside the president's office is a hidden armory where various firearms, munitions, and equipment are stored, befitting the Agency's name as an "armed" organization. • Yukichi Fukuzawa (President): A former samurai and assassin who possesses the ability "All Men Are Equal," which enhances the abilities of Agency members.

    • Ranpo Edogawa: The Agency's premier detective who, despite having no supernatural ability, possesses extraordinary deductive skills that Fukuzawa convinced him were an ability called "Super Deduction."

    • Osamu Dazai: A former Port Mafia executive who defected to join the Agency, possessing the ability "No Longer Human," which nullifies other abilities on contact.

    • Doppo Kunikida: A by-the-book detective with the ability "Doppo Poet," which allows him to manifest anything he writes in his notebook.

    • Atsushi Nakajima: A former orphan with the ability "Beast Beneath the Moonlight," allowing him to transform into a white tiger.

    • Akiko Yosano: The Agency's doctor with the ability "Thou Shalt Not Die," which can heal any injury as long as the patient is on the brink of death.

    • Kenji Miyazawa: A cheerful country boy with the ability "Undefeated by the Rain," granting him superhuman strength when hungry.

    • Jun'ichirō Tanizaki: A detective with the ability "Light Snow," creating illusions by manipulating light.

    • Kyōka Izumi: A former Port Mafia assassin who joined the Agency, possessing the ability "Demon Snow," a spirit that follows her commands. </Notable Members> </Armed Detective Agency>

The Port Mafia is a powerful underground criminal organization based in Yokohama, Japan, led by Ōgai Mori. They operate with a skilled business permit that allows them to conduct many of their activities legally, earning them the nickname "Yokohama's Night Wardens." The organization has vast influence throughout Yokohama, controlling dozens of enterprises and extending their reach into politics and economics. The Port Mafia serves as a vendor for organs, chemical weapons, and criminal personnel, acting as a general trading company for the criminal underworld with connections to illegal organizations across the globe. Despite their extensive criminal operations, they historically avoided the drug trade due to the heightened scrutiny from law enforcement agencies it would bring. Their power and influence make them one of the most feared organizations in Yokohama, with those who defy them rarely surviving the encounter. The Port Mafia operates under a strict hierarchical structure with power divided between the boss, Ōgai Mori, and his executive team. The organization is divided into several specialized units:

Executive Level: Five executive positions answer directly to Mori, each leading their own faction within the Mafia. Current executives include Chūya Nakahara, Kōyō Ozaki, and Paul Verlaine (who rarely leaves the underground Mafia shelter). Two positions were previously held by Osamu Dazai (who defected) and Ace (deceased), with Dazai's position being kept vacant by Mori.

Command Unit: Led by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa (who succeeded his mentor Dazai) with Ichiyō Higuchi as his right hand, this unit handles guerrilla attacks and major operations.

Black Lizard: An elite assault group led by Ryūrō Hirotsu, with Gin Akutagawa and Michizō Tachihara serving as secondary commanders. They handle high-risk combat operations and assassinations.

Specialized Units: The organization maintains various specialized units including Kōyō's interrogation and torture unit, an intelligence division (formerly maintained by Ango Sakaguchi), and an assassin training program overseen by Paul Verlaine.

The Flags (Young Bloods): A group of Mafiosi aged 25 and under, including members like Lippmann, Piano Man, Albatross, Doc, and Iceman, each with specific responsibilities within the organization.

Low-ranked members handle menial tasks such as security for paying stores, settling disputes between allies, or serving as expendable assets in dangerous operations. The Port Mafia engages in various criminal enterprises and operations:

    1. Protection rackets and security services for businesses within their territory
    2. Trafficking of organs and human commodities

The organization is known for its brutal efficiency and ruthlessness in handling opposition. Traitors to the Port Mafia face a particularly gruesome punishment: they are forced to bite a curb before receiving a kick to the back of the head, shattering their jaw. As they writhe in pain, they are turned over and shot three times in the chest.

The Port Mafia has been involved in several major conflicts, including the three-way battle with the Armed Detective Agency and The Guild, the Cannibalism incident, and confrontations with the Rats in the House of the Dead. Despite their criminal nature, they occasionally form temporary alliances with the Armed Detective Agency when facing threats to Yokohama itself. The Port Mafia Base consists of five tall, black buildings in the center of Yokohama. The main building stands at the forefront of the other four, looking over the entire city. The five buildings stand in the center of Yokohama, noticeable from a considerable distance due to their height and location. Notable landmarks nearby include Cosmo World which houses the famous Ferris wheel the Cosmo Clock 21 and the InterContinental Building. All five buildings are tall and black, similar in height, but the main one being the most prominent and tallest of them all. It's about forty stories tall. It contains a glass elevator that one can see the entire city from. The Port Mafia houses numerous powerful ability users, each contributing to the organization's fearsome reputation:

Ōgai Mori (Leader): A calculating and ruthless leader who took over after the previous boss fell ill. He maintains the organization with an iron grip and strategic foresight.

Chūya Nakahara (Executive): Possessor of the gravity manipulation ability "Upon the Tainted Sorrow," he forms one half of the legendary "Twin Dark" duo with his former partner Dazai.

Kōyō Ozaki (Executive): Wields the "Golden Demon" ability and leads the Mafia's torture and interrogation division.

Ryūnosuke Akutagawa: Controls the destructive ability "Rashōmon" which manifests as black tendrils that can take various offensive and defensive forms. He leads the Mafia's combat operations.

Gin Akutagawa: Ryūnosuke's sister and a skilled assassin within the Black Lizard unit, known for her exceptional speed and precision.

Motojirō Kajii: Creator of "lemon bombs" through his ability "Lemonade," used for strategic demolition and area denial.

Former notable members include Osamu Dazai, who defected to join the Armed Detective Agency, and Kyōka Izumi, who also defected to the Agency after being used as an assassin from a young age. </Notable Members> </Port Mafia>

The Guild is a powerful secret society of ability users from North America led by Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald. Operating with international reach, they function as a highly organized collective of influential individuals who maintain separate public identities while secretly pursuing the Guild's objectives. Their members hold senior positions in government and major corporations, providing them with extensive resources and connections. The Guild enjoys diplomatic privileges that place them above local law enforcement, even in Japan where they've been granted diplomat-level authority through political pressure. Their influence extends globally, allowing them to infiltrate and operate within foreign nations with minimal interference. The Guild maintains a hierarchical structure with Fitzgerald as its undisputed leader. Members operate with significant autonomy while fulfilling specialized roles based on their abilities and expertise. Each member maintains a separate public identity, often in positions of power or influence. After a significant conflict in Yokohama, the Guild split into two factions: the main Guild led by Fitzgerald and the Surviving Guild Forces led by John Steinbeck, which actively opposes Fitzgerald's leadership. The organization is highly adaptable, capable of recovering from major setbacks and restructuring itself when necessary. Despite setbacks, the Guild maintains significant financial resources and operational capabilities through its network of powerful members. The Guild operates through a combination of diplomatic pressure, corporate influence, and the strategic deployment of ability users. They maintain various bases ranging from corporate headquarters to mobile platforms like the airship Moby Dick. Their operations have included bounty hunting, strategic acquisitions of businesses and properties, and large-scale plans involving supernatural abilities. The Guild is particularly interested in acquiring rare supernatural artifacts and abilities, especially "the Book" and its pages, which drove their initial interest in Yokohama and Atsushi Nakajima. Following major setbacks in Yokohama, the Guild under Fitzgerald has shown remarkable resilience, rebuilding their resources and pivoting to new strategies including solving high-profile cases and acquiring security companies. The Guild's most significant operation was their attempt to take over Yokohama, which brought them into direct conflict with both the Armed Detective Agency and the Port Mafia. This conflict included placing a 7 billion yen bounty on Atsushi Nakajima, attempting to buy the Agency's business permit, and ultimately launching an "emergency plan" involving Q's Dogra Magra ability to curse Yokohama's citizens. The conflict culminated in the destruction of their airship Moby Dick and a significant loss of resources and personnel. Later, elements of the Guild became involved in the Agency's frameup case, with Fitzgerald choosing to ally with the Agency based on his philosophy of siding with the strong, demonstrating the organization's pragmatic approach to changing circumstances.

The Hunting Dogs (猟犬, Ryōken), also known as the Mad Dogs (狂犬, Kyōken), are an elite Grade-A special tactics and suppression unit within Japan's Military Police. They represent the government's most powerful military force specifically tasked with hunting down and capturing dangerous Ability users who have turned to criminal or terrorist activities. Despite their official status as government agents, they wield extraordinary influence and autonomy within Japan's law enforcement hierarchy, able to override even the Special Division for Unusual Powers. The Hunting Dogs maintain an undefeated record in mission success and have gained international recognition, with foreign governments requesting their assistance for supernatural crises. Behind their impressive reputation lies a disturbing truth: members undergo mandatory physical augmentation that requires monthly maintenance surgeries, creating a system of forced loyalty as their bodies will decay without regular treatment. The Hunting Dogs operate as a small, specialized unit led by Captain Ōchi Fukuchi, consisting of only five members. Each member possesses unique combat capabilities and personality traits, making them an unpredictable and formidable force. Their operational methodology involves rapid deployment, overwhelming force, and relentless pursuit of targets. They have complete authority to requisition resources and command local law enforcement during missions.

The unit maintains a strict hierarchy with Fukuchi at the top, though each member possesses significant autonomy in tactical situations. Their missions typically involve the capture or neutralization of ability users deemed threats to national security, though they have been known to engage in politically motivated operations at the government's direction. Their influence extends beyond Japan's borders, with Captain Fukuchi specifically courted by the United Nations to help establish a global anti-terror association. </Structure and Operations> Joining the Hunting Dogs requires candidates to undergo extensive surgical augmentation by government scientists. These modifications grant members superhuman physical abilities including enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, durability, and stamina. However, these augmentations serve a dual purpose as control mechanisms - the modified bodies require monthly maintenance surgeries to prevent them from literally rotting from the inside out.

This system creates forced loyalty, as members cannot survive without regular government treatments. This arrangement allows the Hunting Dogs to recruit from diverse backgrounds, including former criminals, as long as they possess the necessary skills. As Teruko Ōkura describes it, becoming a Hunting Dog means becoming a "slave" to society and embodying "ultimate violence" in service of maintaining order, requiring members to sacrifice their bodies and souls while fighting to the death if necessary. </Recruitment and Augmentation> The Hunting Dogs consist of five known members, each with distinct abilities and personalities:

    1. Ōchi Fukuchi (Captain) - Possesses the ability "Mirror Lion," making him the unit's leader and most powerful member. He has gained international fame for defeating numerous powerful ability users.

    2. Teruko Ōkura - Wields the ability "Gasp of the Soul" and serves as one of the unit's most dedicated members, fully embracing the Hunting Dogs' philosophy of sacrifice.

    3. Michizō Tachihara - Controls the ability "Midwinter Memento" and has demonstrated skill in undercover operations, having infiltrated the Port Mafia.

    4. Saigiku Jōno - Uses the ability "Priceless Tears" and appears to have some reservations about the unit's methods, having attempted to recruit Doppo Kunikida.

    5. Tetchō Suehiro - Commands the ability "Plum Blossoms in Snow," which grants him tremendous cutting power that he can use against both people and objects as large as aircraft. </Known Members>

The Hunting Dogs have been involved in several high-profile operations, most notably the pursuit of the Armed Detective Agency after they were framed as terrorists by the Decay of the Angel. This operation resulted in the capture of multiple Agency members including Doppo Kunikida and Akiko Yosano.

They later participated in the battle at the Sky Casino against Sigma, successfully preventing a plot involving RDG1800 coin bombs. During the vampire infection outbreak, they were tasked with containing the crisis and retrieving the weapon known as "One Order" from Europe.

Their undefeated record and the extreme measures they're willing to take make them feared even among powerful ability users, cementing their reputation as the government's ultimate weapon against supernatural threats. </Notable Operations> </The Hunting Dogs>
