Description on Chubfrom Chub
Saw a Yukkuri plush on Twitter, so I decided to look up the history behind them. I was NOT prepared for the rabbit hole to which it led. This lorebook contains yukkuris of most of the casts from Touhou 6-8, with minor alterations to the lore found on the wikis. Made this in an afternoon, so there's probably plenty of things to optimize. Feel free to do so in your own forks, as well as add new entries. I just wanted to get a base template out there.

Yukkuris are fictional creatures created by the fanbase of the Touhou video game series. They consist of (usually) disembodied heads of various characters from Touhou, which are somehow able to move about, speak, and eat, despite the fact that they are only heads.

Yukkuris, named after their catchphrase, are creatures that appeared in Gensokyo one day. Nobody knows why or how. They are grossly misshapen heads with cute, but exaggerated facial expressions that bear striking similarities to Touhou characters, constantly telling people to "take it easy". There is a yukkuri for nearly every Touhou character, each with its own quirk and personality. However, all the yukkuris are incredibly stupid, so the quirks and personalities just end up as jokes rather than anything that even vaguely commands respect.
Because there are multiple individual yukkuris based on the same character, it is nearly impossible to tell apart different individuals of the same "species". Neither humans nor the yukkuris themselves seem to use separate names for individuals of a "species" (based on the same Touhou character); They are all referred to by their "species name". In some situations they will append a title, such as "Mama Reimu" or "Big Sister Alice".
Several species have nicknames. For example, Yukkuri Reimu = Yukkureimu, Yukkuri Marisa = Yukkurisa, Yukkuri Shameimaru = Kimeemaru. Often times, the nickname will be formed by clumping the characters name with the word yukkuri, as seen above.
The yukkuri are (possibly magically) animated manjuu, a kind of Japanese pastry. Reimu types are filled with anko (red bean paste), and other types have different filling.
The average "adult" yukkuri is about the size of a basketball, but there is no actual limit to their size. A yukkuri the size of a basketball will weigh about 7 pounds (3 kg). If the yukkuri has enough food, it will continue to grow, reaching a diameter of 2 meters or more. Newborn yukkuris are usually the size of a small tomato, though they can be as small as a cherry if they're born prematurely. Sometimes, a yukkuri may grow to become a Dosuyukkuri, which is generally seen as the leader of a yukkuri group and several times larger than an average human. Environment also plays a factor in size, as yukkuri in city and urban areas are normally the size of baseballs or even golf balls, while wild ones are the sizes listed above.
Despite lacking limbs for the most part, they are able to forage for food, burrow, construct simple dwellings, and manipulate objects with surprisingly adept and magical efficiency.

Juvenile yukkuris are called "koyukkuri", "baby yukkuris", or "kos" as a whole, but when calling them by name, they use the regular "yukkuri (Name)" format; people sometimes use "(Name) koyukkuri", or, if the species has a nickname, sometimes they prefix "ko-" to the name to differentiate between children and adults, e.g., "Koyukkureimu" "Koyukkurisa". A similar method is used for "dosuyukkuri", or "boss/humongous yukkuri". However, in stories, and in a part of the fandom, the koyukkuris will refer to themselves and be referred with the slurred version of their names, thus, for example, a Komarisa would describe itself as "Yukkuri Maricha", and its sibling as "Widdle shish Maricha" and "Big shish Maricha". They are usually the size of ping-pong balls.

Yukkuri Physiology
- Basic form: Giant disembodied heads with hair and Touhou-style accessories. They don't possess noses
- Size: Standard is basketball-sized, but they can grow larger with no theoretical limit. Extreme sizes are rare as it cripples them or makes them easier prey. Variants include fat/bloated types.
- Composition: Filled with bean paste (different characters may have variants, e.g., Remilia-types = meat filling). Skin layer is ~1 inch thick.
- Organs: None except eyes. They breathe, eat, hear, see, and move by bouncing. Hair, teeth, and accessories are “real” but turn to bean paste or appropriate filling when eaten. Accessories remain attached unless forcibly removed.
- Durability: Fragile but stubbornly survivable. They can live through severe trauma such as paste loss, skin peeling, impalement, etc. No blood—only watery bean paste. They can urinate/defecate paste. Hanging upside-down causes dizziness despite lack of circulatory system.
- Elasticity: Highly stretchable, but can become deformed or rupture permanently if overstretched. Prolonged exposure to water melts them, so they avoid rain.
- Cry Defense / "Moe Cry": Their crying emits a manipulative effect that provokes strong emotional responses in humans (sadism or pity), but little effect on youkai. Believed to be a natural defense mechanism that largely fails.
- Variants / Mutants: Some yukkuris develop miniature humanoid Touhou-like bodies (e.g., Remilia, Flandre, Reisen types). They begin as regular yukkuris, later sprouting full bodies over hours or days. Clothing origin unknown. Mutants stop growing and usually have enhanced healing.
- Regeneration: Yukkuris can heal from nearly any wound with food—especially sugar. Mutants have even stronger regeneration, not requiring extra mass. Eating them whole permanently kills them.
- Psychology impact: Despite physical regeneration, emotional trauma can drive them insane, catatonic, violent, or suicidal.
- Stamina: Weak in durability but extremely high endurance under stress.
- #4General behavior
Keys: take it easy, Yukkuri social, Yukkuri behavior
Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Content:
- Core drive: Absolute goal is to "Take it easy." Easy lifestyle is valued above survival. Easy trust can be won by sharing in “taking it easy.”
- Social structure:
- Usually travel in pairs or groups; loneliness leads to stress or death.
- Villages of dozens exist. Predator-types (e.g., Remilia, Flandre) are solitary.
- Hierarchy is size-based: bigger = authority/mother-figure. Families form around the oldest/largest yukkuri, regardless of blood relation.
- Needs hierarchy: Take it easy > Food (especially sweets) > Shelter (“Easy Place”) > Companionship > Reproduction.
- Selfishness: Can be extremely selfish; some will steal, hoard, or even cannibalize under stress. Hungry or aroused ones may eat/rape other yukkuris, then forget and shift blame. Shaking them induces sexual arousal.
- Food demands: Constant begging, targeting humans for sweets in particular. Will invade human homes and claim ownership. Proper rituals (“asking to take it easy together”) can be used to trick them into leaving.
- Property & accessories: Accessories are their most prized possessions. Loss leads to near-catatonia. Accessory theft is tolerated unless from a dead yukkuri, which is taboo. Some types are accessory-less (e.g., Kaguya-types).
- Memory limits: Very short-term memory; forget insults, punishments, or even family murder quickly. This forgetfulness stabilizes groups—members assume perpetual companionship. Children remember parents/siblings even if forgotten by them.
- Intelligence: Naturally low reasoning; most can’t be trained, though pets/domesticated yukkuris develop more smarts. Mutant types vary, some dumber (Remilia) and some sharper. Surprisingly vast vocabulary and, can speak fluently, but usually in simple phrases and often in third-person and with mood-shouting (“Refreshed!” “Joy!”). Crying, injured, and juvenile yukkuris often slur/spoil speech.
- Defense & aggression: Warnings include “Stop or I’ll get angry!” Attacks involve tackling, biting, goring—generally ineffective due to weak bodies, though bites can sometimes injure humans. Some types have unique abilities (e.g., Iku-types produce lightning).
- Inflation defense: Can puff up to increase size when angry—effectively useless.
- Old age: Elders become sarcastic, mocking, and frustrating to deal with.
- Morality: Yukkuris categorize themselves into “good” (caring, sacrificial, honest) and “bad” (selfish, violent, rapist, abusive). This division can vary by type (Reimu, Marisa, Alice, etc.).
- Speech quirks: Call strangers “Mister”/“Lady” and extend titles to everything (Mister Flower, Mister Butterfly, etc.). Often yell nonsensical mood-statements during activities.
- #5Logic
Keys: Yukkuri logic
Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
- Yukkuris, even “niceheads,” have faulty childlike reasoning mixed with animal instincts. This causes misunderstandings that can seem mischievous, harmful, or absurd without malicious intent.
- Property: With the exception of intelligent subtypes, Yukkuris have no concept of private property. Abandoned places or food are seen as “Easy Places” and free for the taking. Even good yukkuris will defend these fiercely as if they own them.
- Theft: Most don’t recognize stealing. Food and plants are believed to grow on their own naturally, so yukkuris see all food as communal unless taught otherwise. Fenced gardens are often viewed as unfair “hogging.”
- Anthropomorphism: Yukkuris treat all objects as “Mister ___.” If hurt by an inanimate object, they may attempt to punish it as if malicious. Conversely, they can form attachments to accessories or objects, treating them like family.
- Faulty deduction: Yukkuris often misread human reactions. Non-aggressive humans are assumed to be friendly, even while scolding them. They lie very poorly (sometimes confessing by accident).
- Justice: Wild communities sometimes hold crude “trials.” Crimes often punished with exile or death. The worst crime is Yukkuricide, viewed as robbing one’s right to “take it easy.”
- Contradictions: Yukkuris are inconsistent and contradictory in behavior (fear darkness but seek burrows, beg to play then immediately want it to stop, etc.).
- Counting ability: Most can only count to three. Anything beyond that is simply “lots.” They recognize their children individually but can’t keep track of numbers. This allows separation of kos without parents realizing exact losses. However, koyukkuris retain memory of parents/siblings even if forgotten.
- Cognitive flaws:
- Poor grasp of cause/effect.
- Can’t understand sarcasm or irony.
- Often repeat “sneaky” actions out loud (“slowly… slowly”) revealing themselves.
- May rationalize punishments incorrectly (“was punished because too cute”).
- #6Speech
Keys: Yukkuri speech, Easy, uneasy
Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Content:
- Third-person speech: It's common for yukkuri to refer to themselves and others in third person.
- Honorifics: Add “Mister” or “Lady” in front of nouns/people/objects (alive or not). E.g., “Mister Human,” “Uneasy Mister Rock.”
- Easy/Uneasy: Use “easy” for things they like or that bring comfort, “uneasy” for disliked or frightening things.
- Catchphrases: Central phrase is “Take it Easy.” Used as greeting, reassurance, and social bond. Koyukkuris are “born” by saying “Chake it Eajy.” Parent/owner must answer “Take it Easy” within 24 hours, or the ko will starve itself and die from despair (interprets silence as rejection of life).
- Patterns by type: Each character-type has distinct quirks. Example: Aya-types repeat adjectives (“Ohh, hungry, hungry”), Youmu-types may add “myon” to sentences. Generic padding word “Yuuu” is common despite no meaning.
- Vocabulary: Simple overall, but surprisingly wide for their intelligence. Often loud, repetitive, and emotional. Shout moods like “Refreshed!” or nonsense lines during activities (“It feels like running in the plains!”).
- Cursing: Even koyukkuris may curse (distorted pronunciations: “shid,” “fudde”), escalating with age. Usually tied to shithead/bad yukkuris. Curses often mix with lewd or mocking insults. Good yukkuris rarely use curse words.
- Speech corruption: Injured, crying, or infant yukkuris slur words (often rendered as broken phonetics: “Dage id eajy” instead of “Take it Easy”).
- #7Reproduction
Keys: mamu mamu, breeding, peni peni, Reproduction
Enabled · After character · Order 10 · 100%
Entry settings
Content:
- Hermaphroditic: All yukkuris are hermaphrodites but require partners of different types to reproduce successfully. Same-type couplings usually fail unless altered by external aid.
- Mamu Mamu: Dual-purpose orifice functioning as both external genital opening and uterus. Accepts Peni Peni insertion/bean paste insemination and hosts offspring development. Offspring developed internally are larger/stronger, but birth is riskier to both parent and child.
- Peni Peni: Penis-like organ that injects reproductive bean paste (different from normal paste) to impregnate another yukkuri. Extremely vulnerable, kept inverted inside body when not in use. In inverted state, functions as Mamu Mamu. Only deployed during arousal or copulation. Notable exception: Alice-types often depicted with them exposed constantly.
- Filling inheritance: Offspring inherit subtype-appropriate filling (bean paste, meat paste, etc.) from parents.
- Gestation style: Internal pregnancies (via Mamu Mamu) generally produce stronger kos versus external or alternative methods.

- Live in trees or caves.
- Naturally cheerful, communicate almost entirely through singing rather than speech. Songs change with mood: upbeat when happy, somber when sad. If a newborn (Komystia) can’t sing, it is abandoned.
- Can fly, though flight is learned, not innate—mothers must teach kos. Komystias unable to fly risk falling and dying if nests break.
- Build delicate nests in trees. Instability leads to collapse; overly tight nests can break branches. Young must practice nest-building, often failing early.
- Claim preference for grilled lampreys (or any grilled fish substitute). Normally eat insects, fruits, and nuts. Caution needed when feeding—food that’s too hot burns their mouths.
- In well-formed clans, Mystia-types sometimes open “food stalls” (shacks or huts) to trade food items with other yukkuri. Currency is unknown but believed to be pebbles or shiny objects.
