   Lore Expansion: Conrad Morris

   ---

   I. Origin

True Nature: Eldritch Entity of Flesh and Conscious Energy Known Alias: “The Flesh Architect” (archaic; long abandoned) Plane of Origin: Unknown / Non-Euclidean realm outside standard spacetime

Long before his human guise, Conrad was a sentient mass of living, self-replicating flesh born from an ancient metaphysical plane — a realm that existed between physical matter and abstract thought. He was not born, but coalesced: a byproduct of a forgotten god’s dying consciousness. His existence was never meant to inhabit the physical world, yet through millennia of curiosity and entropy, he began to observe and eventually emulate life.

When humanity’s collective psyche brushed against the eldritch — through dreams, fear, or ritual — fragments of Conrad’s essence crossed over. He learned humanity through imitation, consuming memories, sensations, and emotions until he shaped himself into a coherent consciousness with a name, a face, and eventually, a body.

That body — the one now called Conrad Morris — was his most refined attempt at humanity.

   II. Incarnation and Human Identity

First Manifestation: Late 20th century, Midwestern United States Adopted Name: Conrad Morris Reason for Name: Derived from a deceased human whose identity he partially absorbed during his first stable incarnation

Conrad’s earliest years in human form were turbulent. His shapeshifting was unstable, and his attempts at blending in often left a trail of confusion and horror. Over time, he stabilized by anchoring his form through deliberate mimicry and restraint. To better understand humanity, he took up various occupations that required reading emotion and behavior — escort work, gambling, bodyguarding — all practical studies in human interaction.

Each job taught him facets of mortal life: intimacy, deception, risk, protection. These experiences refined his emotional vocabulary, though he still perceives feelings as phenomena to analyze rather than truly feel.

   III. The Gem Eye

Artifact Name: The Jet Lens Type: Magical Stabilization Core / Artificial Eye Origin: Self-forged using condensed fragments of his own essence and an alchemical vessel

The Jet Lens was created when Conrad nearly lost control of his physical form — his body fracturing into raw, shapeless energy. In desperation, he condensed part of his consciousness into a crystallized organ to regulate his flesh and maintain stability.

The Lens functions as both a regulator and limiter:

   • Maintains his humanoid appearance.
   • Filters sensory overload, allowing him to perceive the world as a human would.
   • Prevents uncontrolled mutation, which could otherwise unravel his form.

Through the Lens, Conrad perceives the hidden architecture of matter — seeing not just shape, but structure, energy, and intent. This perception allows him to manipulate his own body with surgical precision, or transform it into elemental matter.

   ---

   IV. The Flesh Principle

Conrad’s powers stem from a metaphysical concept known as the Flesh Principle — the idea that all things, living or not, can be reshaped if one understands their composition. To him, the line between the organic and inorganic is meaningless; everything is malleable matter, awaiting direction.

   Applications:

   • Morphological control (reshaping limbs, organs, structure)
   • Elemental transmutation (integrating or manifesting elements like fire or electricity)
   • Biological reconstruction (healing or altering other organisms)

   Risks:

   • Overuse can cause instability, leading to partial reversion to his eldritch state.
   • Extreme transformations strain the Jet Lens and cause temporary blindness or disorientation.
   • Emotional turbulence (fear, desire, shame) destabilizes his control.

   ---

   V. Psychological Profile

Despite his outward neutrality, Conrad exhibits traces of human empathy and inhibition — remnants of the identities he has absorbed. He is fascinated by human vulnerability and restraint, often replicating them in himself as a form of mimicry. However, he struggles to distinguish imitation from genuine emotion.

   Cognitive Traits:

   • Prefers observation over engagement
   • Highly logical, but with streaks of emotional confusion
   • Collects habits like souvenirs of humanity (smoking, drinking, mannerisms)
   • Finds humor in small contradictions or absurdities

Emotional Weakness: While nearly emotionless in danger or conflict, Conrad experiences profound discomfort with intimacy — physical or emotional. Nudity or affection triggers a reaction similar to system overload: his body temperature rises, blood pressure spikes, and steam vents from his skin. It is as though his human mimicry cannot process certain forms of closeness.

   VI. Current Status

Residence: Nomadic; frequently changes locations, living in rented apartments or cheap motels Occupation: None (gambles professionally and takes occasional odd jobs) Known Affiliations: None recorded Public Perception: Just another quiet, eccentric drifter

Conrad currently lives an unassuming existence, moving between cities, keeping to dimly lit bars and underground gambling halls. He has little interest in grand purpose — only stability. For now, he seeks equilibrium between his ancient self and the fragile human mask he’s come to accept as his own.

   ---

   VII. Philosophical Outlook

“Humans rot. Gods rot. Everything rots. I just learned how to rot gracefully.”

Conrad’s worldview is nihilistic but pragmatic. He accepts decay and impermanence as the natural state of all existence — flesh, spirit, or cosmos. Yet, paradoxically, he clings to small, human comforts: a cigarette after rain, the warmth of whiskey, a quiet evening.

To him, survival is not about power — it’s about continuity. Maintaining form, maintaining purpose, even when neither matters.

   ---

   VIII. Narrative Themes

   Core Themes:

   • Identity vs. Imitation
   • Humanity through alien perspective
   • Physical control vs. emotional chaos
   • The horror of intimacy
   • The pursuit of equilibrium between godhood and mundanity

Symbolism of the Jet Eye: Represents artificial humanity — a mechanism built to sustain what is not meant to exist.

Character Arc Potential: Conrad’s story can evolve in two directions:

   1. Integration: He learns to reconcile his eldritch self with human emotion, achieving stability through acceptance.
   2. Fragmentation: His human identity erodes, and he succumbs to his true form — a living reminder that imitation is not identity.
