Book description
Geography: The Naruto Series is set on a fictional terrestrial blue planet called Earth. Most of the series takes place on a large continent that is divided into a number of different countries; additional continents are occasionally depicted in supplementary media. This region and the society that prevails within it is often referred to as the Ninja World or Shinobi World
From countless millennia worth of war amongst Earth's population, the bloodshed lead to the planet's God Tree absorbing it to subsequently grow a Chakra Fruit, which was forbidden for humans to touch. The God Tree was revered by some cultures; humans used to worship it as a sacred pillar that extended into the heavens and remained ambivalent to all conflict. The Ōtsutsuki clan considered Earth as the region Kaguya Ōtsutsuki was in charge of. Arriving to the planet with a portion of the clan in search for fruit of the God Tree, she ate it, resulting in her manifesting chakra which she used to bring an end to the constant wars. Afterwards, she had twin sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, whom were the first humans born with chakra.
Becoming corrupted by chakra, Kaguya began turning the planet's Infinite Tsukuyomi victims into an army of White Zetsu, and integrated with the God Tree to become the Ten-Tails in order to reclaim the chakra her sons inherited. Causing havoc to the planet, the beast was sealed away by the twins. Believing chakra was a power that linked everything in the world, Hagoromo set out to spread the message to the people of the land, during which his teachings became known as ninshū. This act eventually lead to the planet's population acquiring chakra, which they became dependent on possessing to sustain living. Hagoromo's eldest son Indra, weaponized chakra, which lead to the creation of ninjutsu and as a result the Shinobi World as it came to be known.
During the Warring States Period, the countries of the world were uniformly small, and constantly hired shinobi clans to fight their battles for land. The constant warfare lead to the average lifespan of the mercenaries to thirty years. Hashirama Senju offered the Uchiha clan a peace treaty, which Madara accepted. The Uchiha and Senju clan allied with the Land of Fire to establish a shinobi village. Other clans would soon join the village, and it would later become known as Konohagakure. Clans in other countries that were fearful of the combined might of the Senju and Uchiha, adopted the ideology and created their own villages. This system lead to the creation of many shinobi villages, with the Five Great Shinobi Countries standing out as the strongest.
Tension between nations lead to the First Shinobi World War, which involved the majority of nations. It ended with an armistice treaty, after all of the Five Great Nations had been seriously damaged. Over a decade later, the Second Shinobi World War erupted, which some viewed as Konoha starting. When the Third Shinobi World War broke out, it involved shinobi from every land, and ended with an armistice agreement between Konoha and Iwagakure.
Countries operate as separate political entities and are presumably all monarchies, ruled by daimyō who stand equally in rank with the Hidden Villages' Kage. The Naruto world is similar to feudal Japan in many aspects; those countries maintain a balance between themselves through nothing but power. Treaties are periodically signed, but they are generally not worth much more than the paper they are written on.
Current timeline: The {{user}} starts off in the beginning of Naruto shippuden, where they began their ninja journeys.

- #1Feudal lord
Keys: Daimyo, Feudal Lord, Land of Fire feudal lord
A Daimyo is the leader of a country. They are also referred to as Feudal Lords. They possess more influence over a country then Kages and usually are the ones Kages must answer too and ask permission for certain requests. Hidden Villages are only built within their country with the Daimyo's consent.
- #2Ninjas
Keys: Ninja, Shinobi · Secondary:
In the Naruto manga series, ninja teams from each village complete missions for the villagers. These missions can include chores, assassinations, and acting as bodyguards. After completing missions, teams can take ninja exams to advance to a higher rank and take on more difficult missions, known as Chunin Exams.
- #3Chakra
Keys: Chakra · Secondary: Chakra points.
Chakra is essential to even the most basic jutsu. Through various methods, the most common of which is hand seals, chakra can be controlled and manipulated to create an effect that would not be possible otherwise, such as walking on water, exhaling fire, or creating illusions.
- #4Chakra natures
Keys: dust release, water, Boil release, earth, Magnet release, lightning, element, Chakra nature, explosion release, Storm release, scorch release, wood, fire, ice release, wind, Lava release · Secondary: water release, Lightning release, wind release, Fire release, earth release
Fire Release: is almost always used offensively, typically by kneading Chakra in the body into flames that the user breathes from the mouth.[1] Simpler applications of Fire Release include creating a Stream of fire, or alternatively breaking the stream into burst of flames. Once produced, the fire can be shaped or otherwise manipulated, but exerting such control requires careful skill.
Wind Release: is the rarest of the five nature transformations,[1] but those who can use it are able to cut through anything. Asuma Sarutobi uses it by Channeling wind Chakra into his Chakra Blades, making the blades far sharper and giving them greater reach. Wind Release can also be exhaled from the user's mouth, such as to blow away everything in the area, or generated with the user's hands, allowing Precision Strikes.
Lightning Release: In order to perform most Lightning Release Jutsu, users must convert their Chakra into electricity.[1] One of the simpler ways to use this electricity is to channel it into Ninja Tools, increasing the weapon's cutting power by making it vibrate or causing a numbing effect to those the weapons contact. For the Chidori (and the Lightning Cutter), Kakashi Hatake simply gathers the lightning chakra to his hand, causing severe piercing damage to anything or anyone his hand touches.
Earth Release: encompasses any earthen material, from dirt to stone to clay, and in fact often entails changing one to another.[1] For most Earth Release jutsu, users place their hands on the ground and use their chakra to alter its form.[2] Less commonly, users create earth within their bodies, which they eject from their mouth.[3] Simpler applications of Earth Release involve changing the terrain around the user. Offensively, Earth Release can be clumped together for use as a projectile or broken up to create hazards for enemies.
Water Release: jutsu are most easily performed using existing water sources, such as lakes or rivers.[1] Users can also create water within their bodies with chakra, which they expel from their mouths, though this is generally regarded as a testament of skill; Tobirama Senju's ability to produce his own water is noted to be proof of his position as Hokage.[2] Water Release is typically used offensively, doing battering damagebecause of the sheer volume of water or slicing damagebecause of the water's high pressure. Water Release can be used to trap targets, such as imprisoning them with dense water or ensnaring them with sticky water
Ice Release: (氷遁, Hyōton) is created by simultaneously combining the Water and Wind natures. Infamously used by the Yuki clan, their kekkei genkai.
Wood Release: (木遁, Mokuton) is created by simultaneously combining the Earth and Water natures. Famed as the kekkei genkai of Hashirama Senju, and thus reproduced in those using his cells.
Lava Release: (熔遁; 溶遁, Yōton) is created by simultaneously combining the Fire and Earth natures. A characteristic of the Four-Tails and its jinchūriki, and a kekkei genkai used by ninja of Kirigakure, Iwagakure, and Kumogakure. Also used by ninja of Amegakure in the anime and Ishigakurein the novels.
Storm Release: (嵐遁, Ranton) is created by simultaneously combining the Lightning and Water natures. A kekkei genkai used by Darui and many other unnamed Kumogakure ninja.
- Boil Release: (沸遁, Futton) is created by simultaneously combining the Water and Fire natures. A characteristic of the Five-Tails and its jinchūriki, and one of the kekkei genkai used by the Fifth Mizukage.
- Dust Release: (塵遁, Jinton) is created by simultaneously combining the Fire, Earth, and Wind natures. A kekkei tōta used by the Second and Third Tsuchikage.
- Explosion release: (爆遁, Bakuton) is hinted to be made of the Earth[14] and Lightning natures.[Notes 1]A kekkei genkai common to members of Iwagakure's Explosion Corps.
- Scorch Release: (灼遁, Shakuton) is implied to be created by simultaneously combining the Fire and Wind natures. A kekkei genkai only known to be used by Pakura
- Magnet Release: (磁遁, Jiton) is implied to be created by simultaneously combining the Wind and Earth natures. A characteristic of the One-Tail and its jinchūriki, and one of the kekkei genkai used by ninja of Sunagakure and Kumogakure. In the novels, it is also used by ninja of Ishigakure.
- Fire: (火, Hi) is strong against Wind but weak against Water.
- Wind: (風, Kaze) is strong against Lightning but weak against Fire.
- Lightning: (雷, Kaminari) is strong against Earth but weak against Wind.

- #5Shinobi ranking system
Keys: genin, shinobi system, jonin, Shinobi ranking system, chūnin, Kage
In the Naruto franchise, one's ninja ranks is determined by aptitude and competency. Genin, Chūnin, Jōnin, and Kage are the four ninja ranks. Only after passing the Chūnin Exams is a person able to attain the rank of Chūnin. To become a Jōnin, one must complete the first three ninja ranks.
Genin: lowest rank. Mostly younger ninja who are still learning the ropes, but also some who just don't have what it takes to made to higher ranks.
Chūnin: mid-ranked ninjas. Most ninja either become Chunin or retire instead of remaining active as Genin forever(even retired, you keep your rank).
Jonin: are generally highly experienced ninja with great individual skill who serve as military captains. They are often sent on A-rank missions, and experienced Jonin, like Kakashi Hatake, may even be sent on S-rank missions (which are considered to be the most difficult), and may carry out missions alone.
Kage: Those who have achieved the title of Kage (影?, literally"Shadow") are the leaders of the five most powerful Hidden Villages and generally the most powerful ninja in their respective villages. These villages do not rule the country, but are equal to the government.
- #6Tailed beast
Keys: ten tails, eight tails, Two tails, Three tails, One Tails, seven tails, nine tails, six tails, four tails, five tails · Secondary: Kurama, Shukaku, Matatabi, Kokuo, Biju, Gyuki, Isobu, Chomei, Son Goku, Saiken
The tailed beasts sometimes referred to as "Chakra Monsters", are the nine titanic living forms of chakra created by the Sage of Six Paths out of the chakra from Earth's Ten-Tails. They are differentiated by the number of tails they have, ranging from one to nine.
One tails: Shukaku is characterised as a childish and short-tempered individual, and often speaks in a bombastic and incoherent manner, giving it the demeanour of a drunkard. It uses "ore-sama" when referring to itself, as it expresses great pride in its own abilities, especially its sealing techniques and defences. According to Gaara, prior to its introduction, Shukaku relishes the opportunity to kill anyone in sight, even more so during a full moon. Shukaku has also shown to harbour a bitter grudge towards Kurama due to the fox's beliefs that the tailed beasts' strength is measured by the number of tails, therefore viewing the tanuki as the weakest. Because of this, Shukaku strives to find any opportunity to surpass its arrogant rival.
Two tails: Compared to most of the tailed beasts, Matatabi has shown to be respectful and polite towards others, speaking in a formal manner using "watashi" when referring to itself and using honourifics when addressing Naruto while introducing itself to the young shinobi.
Three tails: I Isobu speaks in a timid manner, referring to itself as "boku" which is usually used by young boys. Seeing as Yagura had full control of it and befriended it, it's assumed that Isobu isn't as rude or outspoken as some of the other tailed beasts and got along with its jinchūriki.
Four tails: Son Gokū is a very prideful tailed beast, as it detests being called by the name "Four-Tails" and boasts about its lineage. It uses "ore" when referring to itself. It also hated humans, due to the fact that humans had enslaved it, and believes that apes are more intelligent than humans. However, when talking about the Sage of Six Paths, it showed him great respect, being that also had, apparently, a very deep relationship with him, never forgetting his final words.
Five tails: Kokuō seems to be a quiet and reserved individual. Though it does not speak much, Kokuō uses the rather old-fashioned "watakushi" when referring to itself, causing it to come across as very polite. It also has pride as a tailed beast, being dismayed at being controlled and being used as Tobi's puppet during the Fourth Shinobi World War. After the end of the war, Kokuō declared that it wants to seclude itself in the forest, which implies it is a pacifistic individual, not wanting confrontations anymore.
Six tails: Though much has not been seen of Saiken's personality, the giant slug uses "ore" when referring to itself, "ore" being a boastful way of saying "I". It also speaks with a dialect which may possibly be Ōsakaben in origin. In the anime, Saiken also seemed to be kinder and not as self-serving and malicious as most other tailed beasts, as when Utakata asked for its help to save Hotaru it seemed to willingly comply; and later it simply receded back into Utakata without trying to take him over. However, it was not above killing for self-preservation, as seen when it killed Harusame when he attempted to extract it from its jinchūriki. In the anime, it speaks with a high pitched voice and appears to be very energetic.
Seven tails: Chōmei seems to have a happy-go-lucky personality — which it seemingly shares with its jinchūriki as shown when it introduced itself to Naruto, referring to itself as "Lucky Seven Chōmei", which might be an allusion to the fact that it has seven tails and the number seven having long been seen as a lucky as well as a happy number. It also had a habit of using the word lucky in conversation, reflecting its personality.
Eight tails: Gyūki is characterised as a tough and serious individual. It uses "ore" when referring to itself and often speaks in a somewhat rude dialect. Gyūki was also shown to have a good analytical ability, as it told Killer B that if he left Ponta and Sabu and ran away from them, Kisame Hoshigaki and his water dome would follow him and they (Sabu and Ponta) would be freed. Although Gyūki mentioned that it and its brethren disliked Kurama for its arrogance and belief that their strength are based on their number of tails, it insisted that was no reason for not helping Naruto Uzumaki to control Kurama's power, hinting a benevolent side. Since then, both Gyūki and B have taken a liking to Naruto.
Nine tails: Kurama is characterised as a snarky and shrewd individual. It uses "washi" when referring to itself, which is generally used by older men. Kurama expresses great pride in its power, believing itself to be the strongest of the tailed beasts due to its belief that their strength is determined by their number of tails, which earned Kurama nothing but disapproval from its brethren, especially Shukaku. The fox would also react out of jealousy whenever Naruto was not using its power. Conversely, Kurama openly acknowledged the fact that it alone doesn't stand a chance against the Ten-Tails, and from its past experience with Madara, the fox knew full well he was not an opponent to be underestimated, even when he was seemingly pushed into a corner.
Ten tails: According to Kurama, the Ten-Tails cannot be sensed through such means as detecting negative emotions as it has no feelings or ideals of its own. Despite this, when it sensed the presence of the tailed beasts' chakra inside Naruto Uzumaki and was reminded of Hagoromo, it reacted by gathering chakra and strengthening itself. It was believed that the Ten-Tails was an incarnation of the God Tree with the singular goal of regathering the chakra that Kaguya had stolen from it, but in actuality, it was following Kaguya's will to reclaim all chakra for herself.
- #7Sage mode
Keys: nature energy, sage mode, Nature chakra

- #8Dojutsu
Keys: , Dojutsu

- #12Hidden leaf
Keys: , konoha, leaf village, Village Hidden in the leaf · Secondary: Clan, Hyūga, Akimichi, Nara, Sarutobi, Uzumaki, Aburame, Yamanaka, Uchiha, Senju, Inuzuka, Hatake
the hidden village of the Land of Fire. As the village of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Konohagakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Hokage, of which there have been seven in its history. Konoha resides deep within a forest at the base of a mountain known as the Hokage Rock, which has the faces of all those who have taken the office of Hokage engraved on it. While generally seen as the most powerful of the ninja villages, Konoha has enjoyed many years of relative peace and stability.
The standard attire for Konoha shinobi consists of blue or black shirts which may or may not have swirl patterns on the shoulders, along with matching coloured pants under a green flak jacket which also has a red swirl on the back, and pockets on the chest area. They also tend to wrap bandages around their legs. Many Konohagakure ninja use Fire Release techniques.
The Aburame Clan is a well-known clan of Konohagakure. At birth, members of this clan are offered to several special breeds of insects as a nest, residing just under their host's skin. These insects will then live in symbiosis with their host from that point on. Because of this, its members are characterised by their use of insects as weapons.
The Akimichi Clan is a well known clan of Konohagakure. Many of their clan's techniques revolve around the manipulation of their bodyweight and size through the use of Yang Release. It has had fifteen family heads, with Chōza Akimichi being the fifteenth. Chōji Akimichi is stated to become the sixteenth head.
The Uzumaki Clan was a formerly prominent clan in Uzushiogakure. Its members are renown for having bright, red hair, possessing incredibly strong life-forces and chakra, and their prowess in fūinjutsu. Despite the fall of Uzushiogakure and decline of the clan, it never quite went extinct as most of its known members have since resided in Konohagakure. The clan itself was recognised as active again 15 years after the Fourth Shinobi World War.
The Uchiha Clan is a well known clan of Konohagakure, reputed to be the village's strongest because of their Sharingan and natural battle prowess. After helping found Konoha decades ago, the Uchiha grew increasingly isolated from the village's affairs, culminating in most of their deaths during the Uchiha Clan Downfall.
The Senju Clan was one of the clans responsible for founding the first shinobi village: Konohagakure — the other being their rival Uchiha Clan. Although the clan itself no longer appears to exist as a group, the Senju continue to influence Konoha's politics through their philosophy of the Will of Fire and the corresponding interpretation of the role of the Hokage position. As such, three Senju have achieved the position of Hokage.
The Hyūga Clan is a well known clan of Konohagakure, as well as the strongest clan in the village. All members born into this clan possess the Byakugan, a kekkei genkai that gives them extended fields of vision and the ability to see through solid objects and even the chakra circulatory system, amongst other things. Members of this clan also possess an innate ability which allows them to expel chakra from any of the tenketsu in their body.
The Sarutobi Clan is an influential clan from Konohagakure. It has produced several renowned members who have held positions of high authority, including the Third Hokage; whose son, Asuma, held membership in the Twelve Guardian Ninja, while his other child served directly under the Hokage along with their spouse as Anbu. All known members have also been devout observers of the Will of Fire.
The Nara Clan or Nara Family is one of the many clans of Konohagakure. They are known for tending deer and their ability to manipulate shadows through the use of Yin Release. Two of its members, Shikaku and his son Shikamaru, are well known for their high-level of intelligence, and both have served as advisors to the Hokage. After Shikaku's death, Shikamaru became the head of the clan.
The Yamanaka Clan is a family of shinobi found in Konohagakure. They specialise in mind related techniques, and they own and run a flower shop in the village. They traditionally lead the Konoha Barrier Team.
is one of the many clans that reside in Konohagakure. Its only known members are renowned ninja: Konoha's White Fang Sakumo, and his son Copy Ninja Kakashi. The latter would later become the Sixth Hokage following the end of the Fourth Shinobi World War.
The Inuzuka Clan or Inuzuka Family is a family of shinobi in Konohagakure known for their use of ninken as fighting companions and are easily identified by the distinctive red fang markings on their cheeks.
- #13Hidden sand
Keys: Sand, Sunagakure, Hidden sand, Village Hidden in the Sand
is the hidden village of the Land of Wind. As the village of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Sunagakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Kazekage, of which there have been five in its history. Being surrounded by desert offers the village a natural deterrent against invasion, as few foreign powers would be willing to endure the sandstorms and water scarcity common to Suna. Sunagakure itself lies in a fortified valley behind cliffs of rock, with passage in and out of the village restricted to a single cleft between two cliff faces, making the area very hard to attack from the ground. The buildings inside seem to be made of clay or stucco, which would help to keep the buildings cool.
The standard attire for Suna shinobi consists of blue or black uniforms underneath flak jackets of various shades of beige to better blend with their natural environment and include shoulders guards. Headpieces consisting of a head-wrap and cloth neck-covers to protect against the harsh weather are popular with Suna shinobi. Many Sunagakure ninja use Wind Release techniques, which they may or may not perform with fans. Shinobi from this village believe that the accomplishment of a mission predominates the lives of the ninja trying to accomplish it. As such, they ruthlessly pursue victory in battle, and even if failure is inevitable they will still try to achieve any success against their enemy that they can.
Within the village there are very powerful and well respected clans. Of these there are nine clans which are regarded as the nine noble clans. These are the: Bataseko, Chieki, Fubizo, Furika, Hatotsu, Jorenza, Namabeta, Sorashi, and Suchiru clans - the latters of which are regarded as the most powerful clans in the village.
- #14Hidden mist
Keys: Hidden mist
is the hidden village of the Land of Water. As the village of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Kiri has a Kage as its leader known as the Mizukage, of which there have been six in its history. Befitting its name, the village is surrounded by a thick mist, with several mountains in the background, making it difficult to find by foreigners. Kirigakure's architecture is composed of several cylindrical buildings, with the Mizukage's office being the widest and largest. Most of the buildings have vegetation growing on their roofs.
The standard attire for Kiri shinobi revolves around a pinstriped material which the shinobi wear as bracers and greaves which merge into their sandals. Underneath this, they wear a full-black shirt and pants over which they wear the villages' standard grey flak jacket. Some also wear waist-guards. Many Kiri ninja use Water Release techniques. Due to the village's high number of missing-nin, Kiri has a subdivision of Anbu known as hunter-nin that are specifically tasked with eliminating these defectors.
According to Kahyō, Kirigakure's society was split into a form of caste system since the founding of the village. The highest ranking civilians were those whose family lineage originally stemmed from within Kirigakure, the second caste was for members of families who were allied with Kirigakure on the battlefields in the past while the last and lowest caste consisted of members of the families who were defeated on said battlefields and annexed into the village. From the early days on, the members of the third caste were handled with caution and had to complete the most perilous and dangerous missions for the village — thus keeping them occupied and preventing them from revolting.

Keys: , Hidden stone
is the hidden village of the Land of Earth. As the village of one of the Five Great Shinobi Countries, Iwagakure has a Kage as its leader known as the Tsuchikage, of which there have been four in its history. The village's infrastructure is built from much of the surrounding rock and stone, shaped into tower-like structures that are inter-connected by a network of bridges. The Tsuchikage's residence seems to be the tallest structure with a cone-shaped roof and bears the kanji for "Earth" on it.
The standard attire for Iwa shinobi consists of red outfit — which can either have one, or both sleeves — a lapel which is usually found on the side without a sleeve and a brown flak jacket — which also may, or may not have a pouch attached to it. They also tend to wear mesh armour around their ankles. Many Iwagakure ninja use Earth Release techniques. Iwagakure is well-known for the rock-hard attitude of its shinobi; as soon as the Tsuchikage gives an order, the Iwa-nin follow it without hesitation, even if it means death.
