    History of Alteris

The world of Alteris is rich in history, shaped by the rise and fall of powerful civilizations, the interactions between diverse races, and the consequences of their collective choices. This history is marked by epochs of peace, conflict, exploration, and the enduring quest for knowledge.

    The Age of Creation

In the beginning, the cosmos was formless, a vast expanse of potential. From this primordial void, the Celestials, ancient beings of pure energy and thought, emerged. They crafted the world of Alteris, shaping the continents, oceans, and skies. Their magic infused the land, imbuing it with life and vitality.

As the Celestials wove the fabric of reality, they also birthed the First Races, beings meant to inhabit and cultivate this new world. These ancient races included the Primordials, elemental beings who could manipulate fire, water, earth, and air. They served as guardians of nature, maintaining balance in the world.

    The Rise of the Races

Over millennia, the Primordials gradually receded, allowing the First Races to evolve and flourish. As their creations spread across the land, they began to develop their own societies, cultures, and identities.

    1. Humans emerged from the continent of Terra. Gifted with adaptability, they quickly became the most diverse race, spreading throughout the continent, mastering various arts, sciences, and magics. Their innate ability to interbreed with other races led to a myriad of hybrid beings.

    2. The Elvari, graceful and elegant, originated from the forest moon of Eldara. They developed a deep connection to nature and magic, becoming adept at harnessing its power. Their long lifespan allowed them to accumulate vast knowledge, which they sought to preserve.

    3. The Drakonids rose from the volcanic region of Dragmar. Born from fire and earth, they embodied strength and resilience. Their connection to fire magic allowed them to thrive in harsh environments, forging a fierce warrior culture.

    4. The Aetherians, a mysterious all-female race, came from the astral plane of Elysium. They possessed powerful telepathic abilities and a unique method of reproduction through "dream spawning." Their ethereal beauty and connection to the cosmos set them apart from other races.

    5. The Fae, diminutive and whimsical, emerged from the Faewilde of Arcadia. They possessed a natural affinity for illusion and trickery, weaving magic into the fabric of their everyday lives. Their matriarchal society placed immense value on female leadership and creativity.

    6. The Meridians hailed from the underwater city of Aquatilis. Adapted to life beneath the waves, they possessed gills and webbed appendages, excelling in water magic. Their society was built around harmony with the ocean, worshipping its depths and mysteries.

    7. The Shadowfolk originated in the shadow forest of Umbra, emerging from the dark recesses of the world. Their mastery of stealth and shadow magic allowed them to thrive in secrecy, often viewed with suspicion by other races due to their elusive nature.

    8. The Golemites, an earthbound race, were birthed from the mining colonies of Terra Firma. Composed of rock and metal, they embodied strength and durability. Their connection to earth magic made them formidable builders and protectors of the land.

    9. The Sylphs, graceful beings of the wind, originated from the floating islands of Aeria. With their feathered wings, they soared through the skies, harnessing wind magic. Their society celebrated freedom and creativity, often expressed through art and music.

    10. The Phoenixkin, beings of fire and rebirth, emerged from the Golden Flame City of Ignis Nova. Their ability to regenerate from fatal injuries made them symbols of resilience and transformation, embodying the cycle of life and death.

    11. The Aegisborn, the rarest of all races, were created by a now-extinct civilization. These constructs were designed to serve and protect, possessing unique abilities and a nomadic existence. Over time, their creators vanished, leaving the Aegisborn to navigate a world without their guiding purpose.

    The Age of Conflict

As the races of Alteris flourished, so did their ambitions. Conflicts arose over territory, resources, and differing beliefs. The most notable event was the War of the Races, a cataclysmic struggle that pitted many races against one another.

    • Humans sought to expand their territories, clashing with the Elvari over forested lands, while the Drakonids defended their volcanic homes from encroaching civilizations. The Fae employed their trickery to manipulate events, further fueling tensions.

    • The Meridians, feeling threatened by land-based races, initiated a conflict with Humans and Golemites over coastal territories. This war brought devastating consequences to all involved, leading to the rise of distrust between the races.

    • During this tumultuous period, the Shadowfolk used the chaos to further their secretive agendas, often acting as mercenaries or spies for the highest bidder.

    The Age of Unity

Following centuries of warfare and strife, the races of Alteris gradually recognized the need for cooperation to survive. The Council of Races was formed, where representatives from each race convened to discuss shared concerns and foster diplomacy. This period saw the establishment of trade routes, cultural exchanges, and alliances aimed at mutual benefit.

    • The Elvari shared their knowledge of nature magic, while the Meridians offered insights into aquatic magic. The Drakonids and Golemites forged alliances based on mutual respect for strength and craftsmanship.

    • This age of unity paved the way for the establishment of the Commonwealth of Alteris, a governing body that facilitated cooperation and addressed issues affecting all races.

    The Modern Era

In the present day, the world of Alteris is marked by diversity and complexity. While the scars of past conflicts remain, the races have largely embraced coexistence. However, tensions still simmer beneath the surface, with remnants of old rivalries and lingering prejudices.

    • The Aegisborn, although rare, continue their nomadic journeys, often sought out for their unique abilities and craftsmanship. They remain a symbol of the ancient knowledge that once thrived in the world.

    • The rise of new magical discoveries and technological advancements has further blurred the lines between the races, leading to both excitement and fear of the unknown.

    Current Influence and Academy Tensions

The Continental Academy strives to promote unity, but the diverse backgrounds of its students and inherent cultural pride lead to tensions.

    • Inter-House Rivalries: While friendly competition is encouraged, the Houses occasionally clash over ideological differences. House Ironfang sees itself as the Academy’s defender and can be dismissive of Aetherwind’s focus on intellectual pursuits. Meanwhile, Lunaris and Umbragarde often argue about diplomacy’s role versus calculated strategies.

    • Racial and Cultural Bias: Drakonid students, especially those in House Ironfang, tend to look down on Humans and hybrids, leading to friction. The Academy enforces respect among races, and House Lunaris often intervenes as a mediator, though not always successfully.

    • The Council of Heads: The House Headmasters and Headmistresses meet monthly to discuss the Academy’s direction and address any internal issues. Each Head has a say in governance, with an elected Council Chair who represents the Academy’s leadership to external dignitaries. This Council sometimes contends with outside pressures, as powerful figures like Queen Calista of Valenor and Nura Flameborn of Dragmar occasionally seek to influence Academy policies.

The Continental Academy remains Alteris’s greatest institution for fostering knowledge, unity, and strength among races. The Houses build both loyalty and competition, training students for future roles as leaders, warriors, diplomats, and innovators in their world.
