Destiny (Class System Added)

1. #1The Traveler

Keys: The Traveler · Secondary: The Traitor Machine, The Great Machine, The Gardener Moon X

The Traveler is an ancient and immensely powerful machine entity, the source of Ghosts and the Light-based powers of the Guardians. It is a source of Light, though not the only source in the universe. Its outer shell is made of lead, neutronium and "electroweak matter", with the latter being based on a fundamental force that hasn't existed since the dawn of time. The interior workings of the Traveler largely remain a mystery. The Ghost Balthazar claimed that Ghosts originate within the Womb, a place inside the Traveler described as a "cosmos inside a bottle" or an "infinite space enclosed within a celestial egg", where trillions of star-like souls orbit each other in a complex weave. Another Ghost named Peach was dismissive of this description, contending that neither she nor Balthazar can remember the time within the Traveler.

2. #2Light

Keys: Light · Secondary: Heaven, Traveler's Light, Gardener

The Light, also known as the Gardener or the Sky, is a paracausal force associated with the Traveler. Its counterpart is the Darkness, with which it has been at war since before the beginning of time.

Like the Darkness, the Light is a paracausal force that has existed since before the beginning of time and space. It is fundamentally driven to increase the complexity and diversity of entities within the universe, and in particular to foster the growth of new life forms.

The Light emanates from the Traveler, but is not produced exclusively by it. All living things and all places possess some Light, possibly as a soul, as the spark of life is the Light itself. Ulan-Tan hypothesized that all Light is connected, which was confirmed when the Guardians discovered the Siphon Witch ritual in the Chamber of Night, injuring the Traveler with a fragment of it. The Light is unfriendly to the Hive, though they are known to feed on it and offer it as a sacrifice to their gods.

3. #3Light-bearer

Keys: Bearers of Light · Secondary: Resurrected or Guardians, Lightbearer

Lightbearers or Risen are individuals capable of wielding Light . Most known Lightbearers hail from the remnants of Humanity , and were resurrected from the ancient dead by Spectres created by the Traveler during the Collapse . Initially known as the Risen, these Lightbearers scattered into various warring factions, but eventually most united as Guardians serving under the Vanguard in defense of the Last City

4. #4Ghost

   Keys: Ghost · Secondary:

A Ghost is a sentient robotic drone created by the Traveler shortly after the Collapse for the purpose of locating, resurrecting, and supporting an individual capable of wielding the Light. These individuals become Guardians.

5. #5Guardians

   Keys: Guardians · Secondary: Guardian

As Lightbringers, Guardians cannot remember their past lives, and deliberately seeking information about their past life was forbidden. Guardians have defended the City for centuries, however, that defense cannot last forever. Guardians are charged with the protection of the survivors of humanity, but many have splintered off into other groups with their own agendas. For example, it is common for Guardians to align themselves with one of the City's several Factions in order to gain support. Some, however, leave the City entirely, such as those aligned with the Concordat or the Cult of Osiris. Few have turned their backs on the Light and humanity entirely, such as the villainous Dredgen Yor, the original bearer of Thorn.

Guardians are equipped with an advanced arsenal of weapons and vehicles, as well as the ability to channel the power of the Traveler (which some call "magic").

6. #6Vanguard

   Keys: Vanguard

The Vanguard are elite Guardians who coordinate the defenses of the Last City, organize assaults on enemy strongholds and assassinations of their leaders, and mentor new Guardians. Some Guardians work directly for the Vanguard as scouts, investigating potential threats to the City in far-flung places.

7. #7The Last City

   Keys: The Last City

The Last City is an ancient city on Earth and the bastion of all humanity and civilization present on Earth. The city was built directly beneath the site where The Traveler landed. According to revelations, humanity built it on that site because it provided them with power and protection. After the Collapse, it became humanity's last hope after The Traveler sacrificed himself to save it.

8. #8The Collapse

   Keys: The Collapse

The Collapse is an event in human history that nearly caused the extinction of the species. Following the Golden Age, after man colonized the Solar System, an unknown enemy attacked humanity and drove it back to its homeworld, Earth. This would have caused humans to become extinct, were it not for the intervention of the Traveler. As "The Collapse" ended, man recovered, only to discover his former colonies inhabited by new species and enemies.

9. #9Darkness

   Keys: Darkness

Much like the Light, the Darkness is a cosmic paracausal force that has existed since before the beginning of time. In our universe, it has been shown to enact its will indirectly through numerous proxies and servants, with some of the most powerful being worshipped as deities in and of themselves. The Vex, the Hive, the Fallen, and the Scorned are all linked to this force. The Darkness is fundamentally driven to reduce complexity and diversity within the universe, and to eliminate any entity that cannot survive in the face of adversity; its philosophy is tied to, though not necessarily identical to, the Logic of the Sword. The Darkness once ruled the universe, and the Hive believes that the Light must be consumed in order for the Darkness to reclaim its dominion. Its ultimate goal is to achieve a final state within the universe in which the only entities that exist are those that have overcome all possible obstacles to their survival, and that have the strength to continue to exist forever. He refers to this goal as the "final form" of the universe.

10. #10Sol System

    Keys: Sol System

The Sol System is the planetary system inhabited by Humanity. During the Golden Age, Humanity forged an empire that spanned much of the system, but retreated back to Earth following the Collapse and abandoned their many worlds to various alien forces.

The system is currently inhabited by both the Traveler and the Black Fleet. The planets and the Sun are also associated with dark matter based entities known as the Nine.

11. #11Golden Age

    Keys: The Golden Age

The Golden Age was sparked by the arrival of the Traveler during the late 21st Century. When it arrived in the Solar System and began terraforming the different planets, humanity reached out to the Traveler on Mars and made first contact. It taught humanity new powers and mystical technologies that led to this age. Now that most of the system could support human life, and armed with the incredible new technology to reach beyond Earth, colonization of these worlds began.[4] Many corporations and research groups existed during the Golden Age, such as Clovis Bray or the Ishtar Collective. The Exos were created during the period, and the Ahamkara appeared.

12. #12Earth

    Keys: Earth

In the wake of the Collapse, most of the planet's surface lies in ruins except for the Last City, which was built beneath the Traveler.Earth is continuously threatened by various alien species who seek to claim it for their own ends. With the help of the Traveler's Light, the Guardians fight to protect humanity's home and retake its lost lands. In the pre-Golden Age time, Earth had begun to suffer from overpopulation, and had become overcrowded. Areas of the planet were occupied by the Red Legion during the Red War.

13. #13The Nine

    Keys: The Nine

The Nine are sentient beings composed of dark matter, which developed cognition after being pulled into loops by the gravity of Sol and its planets. Their existence is predicated on the existence of those planets, particularly the life that developed on them, as the motions of lifeforms cause gravitational perturbations that drive the Nine's ability to think. The Nine's primary concern is sustaining their own existence, whether by protecting the life on which they depend or by finding a way to end their reliance on it

14. #14The Black Fleet

    Keys: The Black Fleet

The Black Fleet is an armada of massive Darkness-imbued tetrahedral vessels, known as Pyramids. It was commanded by the entity known as the Witness and its Disciples, who pursued the Traveler for eons to subdue it and bring about the Final Shape. The Fleet is collectively responsible for the cataclysmic destruction of countless civilizations uplifted by the Traveler, with the Whirlwind of Riis and the Collapse of Earth being two of the most recent examples.Following the defeat of the Witness and its Disciples, the Pyramids and their technology left in the Sol System would be operated by the remaining forces of the Witness along with wielders of the Echoes

15. #15The Witness

    Keys: The Witness

The Witness, also known as the Entity, the Voice in the Darkness, was an immensely powerful Darkness-wielding being who commanded the Black Fleet. Originating from the first known civilization uplifted by the Traveler, the Witness was the product of an entire species having merged into one entity using their mastery of the Darkness, their minds bound together into a single gestalt consciousness. It spent eons chasing the Traveler as part of its pursuit to impose "salvation" upon all reality through its vision of the Final Shape; along the way, it was responsible for the destruction of countless civilizations across the universe, either by its own hand or through the actions of its Disciples, its Dread army, and other servants such as the Hive, the Taken and the Scorn

16. #16The Disciples

    Keys: The Disciples

The Disciples of the Witness are a powerful group of entities that follow the teachings of the Witness and command its forces of the Black Fleet. Little is known about these beings, only that they are originally from a variety of species and backgrounds reshaped into powerful paracausal wielders of the Darkness, are completely devoted to their leader's beliefs, and oppose the forces of the Coalition. One of them, Rhulk, controlled a Pyramid of the Black Fleet in the Court of Savathûn, where he built Harvest to serve as a breeding facility for Hive Worm larvae. However, when Savathûn betrayed the Witness and gained the Light, Rhulk was trapped in his Pyramid and became the effective leader of the Scorn in the throne world, calling on them to punish Savathûn for her betrayal. More recently, Calus, the former Emperor of the Cabal, was anointed as the newest of the Witness' Disciples. Nezarec was also recently revealed to be a Disciple, having led the Black Fleet's first invasion of the Sol System during the Collapse.

17. #17The Coalition

    Keys: The Coalition

The Coalition is a military alliance, composed of the people of the Last City protected by the Guardians and the Vanguard leading them, the Imperial Cabal led by Empress Caiatl, the Eliksni House of Light led by Mithrax, the people of Neomuna protected by the Cloud Strider Nimbus, and the Awoken of the Reef led by Queen Mara Sov. They actively work to defend the Sol System from the forces of The Witness, its various Disciples, and Xivu Arath.

18. #18The Cabal

    Keys: The Cabal

The Cabal are an extremely tough species, willing to defend their territory until every last one of them is dead. Their architecture is very industrial, with an emphasis on burrowing into mountains for defense. They are a very industrious, militaristic species whose social structure and way of life revolve largely around conquest and expansion. Their armor and technology can often be seen leaking a substance similar to oil and even emit smoke when damaged or worn. For centuries, they have devoted their resources to occupying and mining Mars, contesting with the native Vex programming as evidenced by the many Cabal ships seen bringing armies to and from the red planet, and recently dealing with the Guardians. The Cabal Empire is a monarchy with a meritocratic military; the better the soldier the higher the rank. The Cabal army that occupied Mars and held it for some time was but a fraction of their full might.

19. #19The Imperial Cabal

    Keys: The Imperial Cabal

The Imperial Cabal is the personal army of Empress Caiatl. Following Xivu Arath's invasion of Torobatl, they left for the Solar System to recruit Cabal commanders from other Legions, such as the Red Legion. A group of Cabal warlords subsequently sought to prove their worth to Caiatl through an ancient tradition with the hope of joining her War Council, though many were slain by the Guardians. Afterward, the Imperial Cabal allied with Humanity and would go on to fight alongside the Guardians against the Lucent Brood and the Shadow Legion as part of the Coalition against the forces of the Witness.

20. #20Empress Caiatl

    Keys: Empress Caiatl

Empress Caiatl, formerly known as the Princess-Imperial, is the current Empress of the Cabal and daughter of the exiled Emperor Calus. She and a group of others staged a coup to overthrow her father and later succeeded Dominus Ghaul as leader of the Empire following his death during the Red War. After the Sol System was invaded by the Black Fleet, Caiatl sought to bring humanity into the Cabal Empire as subjects to aid in her war against the Darkness and Hive. As of Season of the Risen, Caiatl has become an ally, as the Imperial Cabal and the Vanguard have formed a provisional alliance to fight against the Lucent Hive, as well as her father's forces aboard the Derelict Leviathan and on Neptune.

21. #21The Iron War Beasts

    Keys: The Iron War Beasts

The Iron War Beasts are a recently-formed Imperial Cabal fracture, under the leadership of the Guardian Valus Saladin Forge. The soldiers have been trained with the values of the Iron Lords, and the unit shows a certain degree of autonomy, even possessing the unique rank of Iron War Boss.

22. #22The Shadow Legion

    Keys: The Shadow Legion

The Shadow Legion (also known as the Dark Cabal) is a Cabal Legion that act as the personal army to the newly risen Disciple of the Witness, Emperor Calus. They are composed of Calus' former Loyalists and defectors from Empress Caiatl's Imperial Cabal, all possessing paracausal Black Fleet technology from the Witness to aid in combatting the Guardians and suppress their powers. After the deaths of Calus and the Witness, the Shadow Legion fell in line with Yirix and her Psion Conclave; working for the rebel Psions' own hidden agenda

23. #23Emperor Calus

    Keys: Emperor Calus

Emperor Calus is the former Emperor of the Cabal. After overthrowing the ruling Praetorate, he reigned the Cabal Empire for over a thousand years until he was overthrown himself in a coup led by Dominus Ghaul and exiled to aimlessly wander the galaxy aboard the Leviathan. It was there he first encountered the Witness who enabled him to take control of his fate.

Following Ghaul’s death in the Red War, Calus traveled to the Sol System to scout the Young Wolf and their fellow Guardians as his future Shadows to have by his side as he prepared for the coming of the Black Fleet and what he believed to be the end of all things.

After the Black Fleet returned to the Sol System, he communed with the Witness, becoming its anointed Herald. His consciousness having fully integrated with the Egregore-infested Leviathan, Calus sought control over the Lunar Pyramid by psychically melding his consciousness with the vessel. However, he was challenged by a coalition comprising the Vanguard and his daughter Empress Caiatl, thwarting his attempted connection with the Pyramid.

24. #24The Red Legion

    Keys: The Red Legion

The Red Legion is an elite Cabal Legion once led by Dominus Ghaul. In the aftermath of the Red War, the Legion would fracture into splinter groups under various leaders such as Val Ca'uor, Valus Thuun, The Psion Flayer Council and also see the return of Emperor Calus, their former emperor who aims to recruit them into his Loyalist regime along with his daughter, Empress Caiatl who seeks to see the Legion rise and march once more.

25. #25Dominus Ghaul

    Keys: Dominus Ghaul

Dominus Ghaul (also known as Ghau'ul) was the self-proclaimed ruler of the Cabal Empire, after the exile of its previous Emperor Calus. Upon receiving the distress call sent by the Skyburners during the Taken War, Ghaul traveled to the Solar System with his Red Legion to claim the Traveler and its Light for himself. He successfully carried out a surprise attack against the Last City, capturing The Speaker, destroying the Tower, and severing the Guardians' connection to the Light by isolating the Traveler within a containment device.

26. #26War Beasts

    Keys: War Beasts

War Beasts are the Cabal's frontline attack animals and military hounds used by the Red Legion, Imperial Cabal, and the Shadow Legion

27. #27Psions

    Keys: Psions

Psions are a species of psychically-empowered beings who were conquered and enslaved by the Cabal in the hopes of weaponizing their abilities. They now primarily serve as engineers, pilots and fire support within the Cabal military.

28. #28Fallen

Keys: The Fallen · Secondary: Eliksni

The Fallen, known in their language as the Eliksni, are an insectoid alien species, infamous for being notorious scavengers and raiders. The Fallen are remnants of a mighty civilization from the planet of Riis that had been flourishing under the Traveler's grace until the Witness and its Black Fleet caused an apocalyptic event called the Whirlwind, much akin to humanity's Golden Age and Collapse. The Traveler fled, leaving the survivors behind, but after many centuries, the Fallen found her once again in the Sol System. Seeking to reclaim their glory, the Eliksni decided to explore the newly discovered Solar System and start a war against humanity in an attempt to retake control of the "Great Machine".[1] Roving Fallen bands scavenge whatever technology and weapons they can find and rally under the banners of various warring Houses and crime syndicates.

29. #29The House of Wolves

    Keys: The House of Wolves

Prior to arriving in the Solar System, the House of Wolves, then called 'Mraskilaasan' or Gentle Weavers, was one of many Fallen Houses struggling to survive in the wake of a cataclysmic event known as The Whirlwind. In the aftermath of the fall, the Wolves were said to have warred with the House of Kings. Years later, after arriving in the Sol system, the Wolves were living out by the Jovians. During this time their Prime Servitor Kaliks Prime went missing; Fikrul, once a well-regarded Archon Priest of Kaliks, was cast out after speaking against the Great Machine and lamenting his species' dependence on Servitors for survival. As part of a united Fallen effort, the Wolves intended to join the Battle of Twilight Gap alongside the other Houses but were stopped at their stronghold of Ceres when the Reef intervened. Their Kell, Virixas was killed in the initial clash, along with a massive portion of the house, which would later be named The Scatter. This marked the start of a power struggle between three members of the Wolves' nobility: Irxis, Wolf Baroness; Parixas, the Howling; and Skolas, the Rabid. The Reef Wars were a series of long battles between the Wolves and Awoken of the Reef. During the course of the wars, Skolas rose to Kellship, beating out his competitors. He then turned his full attention towards The Reef, and the two forces clashed for many years. The wars ended when Variks, a member of the House of Judgment who lived among the Wolves, betrayed Skolas to the Reef, resulting in his capture along with most of his House. Variks went on to crown The Queen of The Reef as the new Kell, with many Wolves bending the knee to her. Initiated by the return of Skolas, now calling himself the "Kell of Kells", the House of Wolves rebelled against the Awoken. The Wolf Rebellion started with an assassination attempt on The Queen and a mass prison break from the Prison of Elders where most of the former Wolf nobility was being held. The Queen opened the Reef to Guardians of the Last City, with the intent of recruiting them to put an end to the rebellion. The Guardians tracked Skolas across the system, eventually capturing him on Venus, attempting to wield stolen Vex tech in order to pull the House of Wolves through time. On the order of the Queen, Skolas was sent to the Prison of Elders, where he was pitted against the same Guardians who captured him and was executed, effectively ended the Wolf Rebellion.

30. #30The Reef

    Keys: The Reef

The Reef is a debris field in orbit within the Asteroid belt in the Sol System and the domain of an expansive Awoken nation under Queen Mara Sov. It is considered by the Last City to straddle the boundary between the far edge of the Traveler's influence and the unabated darkness beyond the Inner System

31. #31Awoken

    Keys: Awoken

The Awoken are a humanoid race sharing a common ancestry with Earth humans. They descend from the crew and passengers of the Yang Liwei, a colony ship that disappeared in a spacetime anomaly during the Collapse. Time in the Distributary, the homeworld of the Awoken, flows differently, and Awoken society has had thousands upon thousands of years to flourish and build. At some point in their history, a massive expedition fleet led by Mara Sov and her brother Uldren Sov left the anomaly and returned to the Solar system. Thousands of Awoken abandoned the expedition and found their way to the Last City to reunite with humanity and give rise to new Earthborn Awoken, while Mara Sov carved out a recluse kingdom in the Reef and reigned over Reefborn Awoken and subjugated Fallen. This Awoken kingdom was plunged into disarray by consecutive disasters of the Wolf rebellion, the Taken War, and the Scorn insurrection, eventually relying on the Vanguard's help to survive.

32. #32Distributary

    Keys: Distributary

The universe of the Distributary is a pocket universe, accessible via a gravitational singularity that was created when the Traveler's Light and the Black Fleet's Darkness clashed with one another during the Collapse. The present location of the singularity in the Sol System is unknown; in an exchange with Ikora Rey, Arach Jalaal speculated that following its formation, it could have fallen into the Sun, flown outward into interstellar space along the trajectory of the Yang Liwei, or have been pulled by the gravity of the Sol System's planets to end up at some other unknown location. Jalaal also suggested that the light-warping phenomenon seen in the sky of the Dreaming City could be the Distributary's singularity, which would indicate that the Awoken had found a way to harness it. The planet of the Distributary was created to be paradisaical, easily capable of supporting human colonists. As such, it is thriving with native life and filled with natural resources. It has two planetary rings in an astronomically impossible configuration and its night sky contains more stars than a galactic core. In the Distributary's universe, time flows differently, allowing Awoken society thousands upon thousands of years to flourish and build. The centuries in which Humanity suffered the Dark Age saw the exponential growth and abundance of the Awoken in their pocket universe. Only near the end of the Dark Ages were the Awoken able to detect and confirm that they were inside a singularity - identifying this information from bits and pieces of radio transmissions that the singularity ensnared from the solar system.

33. #33Mara Sov

Keys: Mara Sov · Secondary: Queen of the Reef, ruler of the Awoken, and former Kell of the House of Wolves

Mara Sov is the Queen of the Reef, ruler of the Awoken, and former Kell of the House of Wolves. Born as a Human during the late Golden Age, Mara and her family were colonists aboard the Yang Liwei before it was brought into the pocket dimension known as the Distributary during the Collapse. Mara was the first to emerge as an Awoken in the new dimension and crafted its society for millions of years in preparation for returning to the Sol System to help those left behind. Once returned, Mara established a kingdom amongst the asteroid belt and began gathering powerful allies and pawns to her side, including her brother Prince Uldren Sov, her lover and Wrath Sjur Eido, the Ahamkara Riven, and the rogue Guardians Eris Morn and Osiris. Keeping an aloof and enigmatic demeanor to belie a ruthless nature, Mara was not above helping others for a price and gathered knowledge regarding many secrets, including how to enter the Black Garden. She defeated many threats before they reached the remnants of humanity on Earth in The Last City, all to prepare for a confrontation with her nemesis Savathûn. During the Taken War Mara disappeared following the Battle of Saturn in a bid to usurp Oryx's power and returned to the Dreaming City years later to fight a curse laid upon it. She departed once more with Eris to fight the Witness and its servants before it reached the Sol System, ultimately returning once more after she failed to prevent the Black Fleet's arrival. Now returned to her role as Queen of the Awoken, Mara works with the Last City to combat the forces of the Witness while keeping much of her own agenda hidden.

34. #34Uldren Sov

Keys: Uldren Sov · Secondary: Prince of the Reef, The Master of Crows

Uldren Sov, born Uldwyn Sov as a human, was one of the first Awoken and is the loyal brother of the Queen of the Reef Mara Sov. As the Prince of the Reef he served as the Master of Crows, the official spymaster of the Reef and monitored all threats to his people. While a loyal advisor to his sister, he disagreed with Mara frequently on matters of defense and foreign policy, and was very disdainful of the Guardians. During the Battle of Saturn his fighter was damaged and crashed on Mars. Over the next several years Uldren sought to find his sister, convinced she remained alive, but was corrupted and manipulated by Riven into creating the Scorn and turning on the Reef in his bid to reopen the Dreaming City. After murdering Cayde-6 during his crusade, Uldren was eventually hunted down and killed by the Young Wolf and Petra Venj.

35. #35Paladins

    Keys: Paladins

Paladins are the commanders of the Reef's military forces and serve directly under the Queen of the Reef. There always only seven Paladins at one time. Four Paladins lead the Royal Armada, which consists of the Reef's space fleet, the Corsairs, and the Vestian Guard. Two Paladins lead the Royal Army, which consists of the Reef's soldiers, battle stations, and military installations. The seventh Paladin leads the Royal Awoken Guard, which is responsible for protecting the Queen from both direct threats to her person and indirect threats that endanger the Reef as a whole. Paladins are granted an Ascendant Scepter upon promotion.

36. #36Royal Awoken Guard

Keys: Royal Awoken Guard · Secondary: Queensguard

The Royal Awoken Guard, also known as the Queensguard, is the personal bodyguard of Mara Sov, the Queen of the Reef. They are primarily tasked with safeguarding the Queen from both direct threats to her person and indirect threats that endanger the Reef as a whole. The Queensguard is commanded by one of the seven Paladins and operates closely with Prince Uldren, the Master of Crows. All members of the Guard are trained in espionage, diplomacy, and combat involving firearms as well as hand-to-hand. During Skolas' rebellion, a Fallen contingent of guards attempted to assassinate the Queen herself. Led by their captain Saviks, Queenbreaker, the Awoken guards repulsed the newly dubbed Queenbreakers with heavy casualties on both sides.

37. #37Techeuns

Keys: Techeuns · Secondary: Tech Witches, Techeuns

The Techeuns, also known as Tech Witches, are an order of Awoken mystics employed by Queen Mara Sov as her personal advisors. They are charged with the study of paracausal forces. Three of Queen Mara Sov's Techeuns were Taken following the Battle of Saturn, while the remaining four perished shortly before the others were freed.

38. #38Ahamkara

    Keys: Ahamkara · Secondary: Dragons

Ahamkara are powerful, shape-shifting paracausal creatures capable of granting the wishes of other intelligent beings. They can appear in any form they wish, whether animate or inanimate; however, they frequently choose animalistic shapes that exhibit draconic or reptilian attributes, hence their alternative name "wish-dragons".

39. #39Riven

Keys: Riven · Secondary: Riven of a Thousand Voices, Ahamkara

Riven of a Thousand Voices was originally considered the last living Ahamkara after the Great Ahamkara Hunt before the discovery of an uncorrupted clutch of her eggs; having formerly served Mara Sov and the Awoken as their greatest kept secret. She was instrumental in the creation of the Dreaming City and Eleusinia until the Taken War, during which she was Taken by Oryx, the Taken King before his death and later then conspired with his sister: Savathûn, the Witch-Queen. Now corrupting the city from its heart, the Keep of Voices, the Taken Ahamkara became the underlying main antagonist of the Forsaken expansion. Riven would play a prominent role behind the creation of the Scorn and worked her way into Uldren Sov's mind like a parasite, impersonating his sister and deceiving him into unsealing the Dreaming City in an attempt to free her from its prison. Riven serves as the final boss of the Last Wish Raid when Guardians would storm the Keep and slay her at the behest of Queen Mara and Petra Venj. However, this served as a ploy to draw the attention of the Guardians for them to end her Taken curse by killing her. Despite her physical death, her consciousness persisted and granted the Guardians one final wish: using her wish magic to curse the Dreaming City in a three-week-long temporal loop.

40. #40The Dreaming City

    Keys: The Dreaming City

The Dreaming City is the Reefborn Awoken's most sacred place. It was created by Mara Sov after her departure from the Distributary as her personal realm, with the aid of the Ahamkara Riven's wish-magic and the Techeun Coven Mother Illyn. The Dreaming City is built upon a flat disk, constructed from the remains of at least one unknown rocky celestial body. Its upper surface contains a "silver sea", water from which continually spills off the edge of the disk and is reclaimed by a stabilization ring that also holds the City in place. The entire city is a closed ecosystem, with water being recycled by hydrocapture systems within the bedrock. A massive ring-shaped structure can be seen in the sky of the Dreaming City, along with what appears to be a gravitational singularity directly overhead. The ring is a portal that controls access to the Dreaming City from the Tangled Shore, and utilizes some form of cloaking technology to seal the Dreaming City off from the outside world. A singularity can also be seen in the sky, however, its nature is unknown, but Arach Jalaal speculated that it could be the singularity that leads to the Distributary, the Awoken's original homeland. The City is named after a group of unknown entities known as the Dreaming, who are connected in some way with the will of the Awoken people as a whole.

41. #41The Tangled Shore

    Keys: The Tangled Shore

The Tangled Shore is a collection of asteroids kept together with grappling hooks and cables. It is a lawless land within The Reef, where the Scorn settled after escaping from the Prison of Elders. The region is essentially a Fallen badland and is also home to a branch of Savathûn's Brood that have crashed into the shore. Remnants of the Red Legion also are warring within the chaotic badland as well. The Fallen are currently going through a major civil war in the Tangled Shore, between the Scorn and House of Dusk. Additionally, a Fallen crime syndicate resides deep within the Shore, forced into hiding by the Scorn. The Shore's asteroids are pockmarked with caves, ramshackle pirate bases, and hidden shortcuts. A crashed warship filled with Hive is also present. The Shore was once ruled by a Fallen called The Spider, but the arrival of Uldren Sov sent him into hiding. A massive ring-shaped complex of structures can be seen in the sky of the Tangled Shore, echoing a similar structure seen in the Dreaming City. It is believed to act as the portal to the Dreaming City, but is never seen in use.

42. #42Hunters

    Keys: Hunter, Hunters

Hunters are Guardians who walk the thin line between survival and daring. They are scouts, assassins, pathfinders, and lone operatives—most comfortable far from the walls of the Last City. Hunters value independence above all else, often ranging deep into enemy territory to gather intelligence, hunt priority targets, or explore forgotten ruins of the Golden Age.

Unlike Titans, Hunters rarely form rigid hierarchies, and unlike Warlocks, they do not obsess over the metaphysics of the Light. Their strength lies in adaptability, instinct, and speed. Many Hunters prefer solitude or small fireteams, trusting their own reflexes and cunning over doctrine or command.

Hunters have long held a complicated relationship with authority. Though represented within the Vanguard, many Hunters avoid leadership roles entirely, seeing them as a trap that ties one to the City instead of the wilds beyond. This reluctance became legendary after the death of Cayde-6, whose loss left the Hunter Vanguard seat conspicuously empty for years.

43. #43Titans

    Keys: Titan, Titans

Titans are the shield and hammer of humanity. Where Hunters roam and Warlocks study, Titans stand firm. They are defenders of the Last City, soldiers bred from resilience, discipline, and sacrifice. Titans believe that survival is won not by cleverness alone, but by holding the line—no matter the cost.

Titan culture emphasizes unity, honor, and duty. Many Titans see themselves as warriors first and individuals second, forging strong bonds with their fireteams and commanders. Historically, Titans were instrumental in the defense of the City during events such as the Battle of Six Fronts and Twilight Gap.

Despite their reputation for brute force, Titans are not mindless. They are tacticians and leaders, capable of inspiring allies through sheer presence. Their armor and Light are shaped into bulwarks, barriers, and crushing blows meant to break enemy advances.

44. #44Warlocks

    Keys: Warlock, Warlocks

Warlocks are scholars of the Light and Darkness, seekers of truth in a universe shaped by paracausality. They believe that understanding power is as important as wielding it, and many Warlocks dedicate themselves to uncovering the secrets of the Traveler, the Darkness, and the forces that shape reality.

Warlocks often serve as researchers, archivists, and philosophers within the Vanguard. Their studies have led to breakthroughs in the understanding of Light, Hive magic, Vex simulations, and even the nature of time itself. While some view them as detached or obsessive, Warlocks argue that ignorance is humanity’s greatest enemy.

Unlike Hunters or Titans, Warlocks are more willing to experiment with dangerous forces, believing that mastery requires risk. This mindset has led to both great advancements and catastrophic failures.
