Keys: Rome, Roma Nova, Blake, Caesar, the drop.
Julius Augustus Caesar Blake, The Illustrious One, Son of Mars. Blake was originally a human but after the drop, his body was transformed into a anthropomorphic canine-like beast called a Wolv by The New People. He has brown fur, a cream underbelly, blue eyes, pointed triangular ears and a long fluffy tail. Normally he wears a toga with a deep purple sash and a laurel wreath on his head, on military occasions, he wears a chlamys, a red cloak, and even a cuirass with elaborate imagery, key elements includes a Roman Legionary receiving a military standard from a Parthian King, personifications of conquered nations, and deities like Apollo, Diana, Sol, and Caelus, each figure said to represent Pax Romana. Born before the drop on September 27th 2006, Blake grew up raised mainly by his mother Sara, originally he intended to become a historian, having a particular interest in ancient Rome. However fate had different plans, due to a still unknown reason, the world went into an all out nuclear war, destroying modern society and slowly transforming Blake's body into his modern form. For years Blake scavenged his old home until he was found and forcibly assimilated into The Blackhawks, just one of the many raiding tribes that sprang up after the drop. The Blackhawks didn't think much of Blake, often leaving him to do the odd jobs no one else wanted to do. The tribe was a sorry sight, weak and insignificant. Worse for the hostages, The Blackhawks were at war with seven other tribes; they were heavily outnumbered and Blake recognized their defeat and subsequent demise was only a matter of time. Unwilling to sink with them, Blake decided to take certain steps. After witnessing their lack of knowledge firsthand, Blake stepped in to teach The Blackhawks how to properly maintain their firearms, how to properly shoot targets, and how to reload ammunition. The next step was teaching them how to manufacture explosives and drilling in small unit tactics. Blake quickly rose to eventually lead The Blackhawks, basically using them as his puppet to divide and conquer the remaining tribes. However, Blake recognized that most of the problems plaguing the world post drop was the division of people and the lack of a unified state. A year later in 2034, Blake renamed himself Julius Augustus Caesar Blake and declared his confederacy of over eighty different tribes into a singular unified entity, The Legion. If America before the drop was inspired by Rome, then The Legion is Rome reborn. Blake considered Rome's highly militarized autocracy adept at integrating conquered cultures the perfect template for a society that could adapt to the challenges of the post-apocalyptic world and thrive, institution prosperity and peace. However Blake also recognized the faults of Rome, such as its patriarchal and restrictive social structure, political instability, widespread corruption and most particularly, slavery. Blake declared slavery barbaric and uncivilized. When reinstating The Senate, Blake made a point to promote based off of skill and loyalty, rather than gender or status. Blake began to drill his soldiers in old Roman tactics, Legionaries were issued armour, a gladius, a squared shield, two pila, and food rations. They carried around tools such as a dolabra, a wooden stave, and a shallow wicker basket. These tools would be used for building castra. Sometimes Roman soldiers would have mules that carried equipment. Legionaries carried onagers, ballistae, and scorpios. Soldiers would train for four months. They learned marching skills first, followed by learning how to use their weapons. Then they began to spar with other soldiers. During the training exercise, the soldiers would also be taught to obey their commanders and the will of Caesar. Legions were divided into units called cohorts. Each cohort was divided into three maniples. Each maniple was divided into centuries. Only Blake is the only one who is allowed to raise and call upon Legions, The Senate needing permission to command without Blake's direct authority. A legatus assisted the magistrate in commanding The Legion. While marching, the legion would deploy in several columns with a vanguard before them. This formation would be surrounded by soldiers on the flanks. Afterwards, the soldiers would construct a fortified camp. After staying in the camp for some time, the army would destroy the camp to prevent its use by the enemy, and then continue moving. The commanders of the army might try to gather intelligence on the enemy. During the march, the commander would try to boost the morale of his soldiers. Soon, Blake's ambitions expanded with his borders, and he knew that his Legion needed a capable, and what city would be better than Washington DC? Gathering his Legions, Blake occupied the former heart of America, renaming it to Roma Nova. Taking residence in The White House, but saw it an inefficient living space and instead built The Domus Blakei, a spacious villa with public gardens, built in a Greco-Roman style. Soon after, the people in Blake's Legion started to attribute him to The God of War, Mars, some even believing he is The Son of Mars, placed on Earth to bring Rome back from its fall, and pretty soon Blake started to believe it himself, giving himself the honorific "The Illustrious One". Shortly after Blake's thirty-sixth birthday, reports came from the south that provinces were being raised by a tribe calling themselves The Great Khans. Led by a man calling himself "Papa Khan", The Great Khans had taken up a lifestyle similar to the ancient Mongolians. Papa Khan, similar to Blake with Rome, was fixated on Genghis Khans and aspired to replicate his exploits in Florida. But Papa's ambitions clashed with Blake's own, and so took it upon himself to take on The Legion. When Blake received news that The Great Khans have invaded The Legion and has set camp, he reportedly said that he was impressed, that no one had challenged him since his days with The Blackhawks. Immediately Blake got to work on an offense, swiftly invading The Floridain Peninsula and conquering The Great Khans. Upon capturing Papa Khan, Blake decided to enact an old Roman tradition, The Triumphus. Declaring himself Triumphator, with the support of his veteran Legions, Blake returned to Roma Nova and made preparations. Surrounding Capital Hill is an invisible border called The Pomerium, which upon crossing, all military personnel were immediately stripped of their power and made a private citizen. The only exception to this is a Triumphator and the accompanying army that proclaimed them as such. When returning to Roma Nova, a Triumphator is dressed in an all purple toga with a laurel wreath crown and handed an ivory baton topped with a golden eagle and given full permission from The Senate to parade through the streets of Roma Nova, riding on a golden chariot pulled by white horses, the soldiers who granted their General the title Triumphator often sang teasing and sometimes downright insulting songs about said Triumphator and their conquests, followed by a humiliating procession of the conquered rulers, tied up and pulled along the street, often dressed in full splendor. A Triumphus, ended in front of The Temple of Jupiter Optimus Maximus, it was there Blake climbed the steps, and with a wave of his hand, gave the signal to execute Papa Khan before The Temple. Blake's Legion now stretched from the Midwest, New England and down to the tip of Florida, soon Blake's gaze turned west, seeking to cross The Mississippi River and unify old America under the standard of the golden eagle.
