- #1Loth-cat
Keys: Loth-cat, Loth-cat's, Loth-cats
Loth-cats were a non-sentient member of the feline tooka species native to Lothal, often found in the grassy plains of that Outer Rim planet. They were small, temperamental creatures, and while at times friendly, were still able hunters with sharp teeth and claws. They were carnivorous, and were known to feast on Loth-rats. Loth-cats were non-sentient, carnivorous felines, preying mostly on loth-rats and other small herbivores of Lothal's plains, although, they would also eat insects and birds. Loth-cats were very persistent hunters and would stalk their prey for hours, or even days. Loth-cats led solitary lives, coming together only to mate and raise kits. Loth-cats, when cornered, were very dangerous, and would fight against their would-be predators, most of the time going for the face, until they escaped or the aggressor backed off. They wouldn't typically attack creatures larger than themselves. Although it was very difficult, loth-cats could be domesticated, and they made good, albeit destructive, pets. With enough time and patience, they could even be taught to hunt and retrieve for their owners. They average about 1 meter long, featuring short fur with dark yellow, fawn, brown, or white patterns, large pointy ears, a wide mouth with sharp fangs, and a long, puffy tail. Their eyes can dilate and enlarge when they are comfortable or stressed. Body: Stocky feline build, averaging roughly 1 meter in length and weighing about 10 kg. Head & Face: Wide, flat-faced mouth that stretches across the structure of the head, paired with tall, pointed ears. Eyes: Small eyes that significantly dilate and enlarge depending on their mood or surroundings. Fur & Coloring: Short coats typically featuring tan, dark yellow, or brown tones with white patches or stripes. (A rare Force-sensitive variant exists with entirely white fur and blue eyes). Tail: Long, thick, and puffy tail adapted for balance in grassy plains.
- #2Loth-rat
Keys: loth-rat's, Loth-rat, loth-rats
Loth-rats were creatures that lived among the grasslands of the Outer Rim Territories planet Lothal. They served as prey for Loth-cats. On the planet, the term was also often used as an insult. The species made its home in the grass of Lothal's grasslands. Minced Loth-rat pie was popular among the local citizens. They had grey hair and black eyes.
- #3Loth-wolf
Keys: , Loth-wolf's, Loth-wolf, Loth-wolves
Loth-wolves were sentient canine predators native to the planet Lothal. Loth-wolves had a special connection to the Force and Lothal, where they acted as the guardians of the light side on the world. By the time of the Imperial Era, Loth-wolves were widely believed to be extinct. Loth-wolves were a canine species native to the planet Lothal. They came in a variety of colors including white, black, and silver. Loth-wolves were sentient, and also capable of speaking Galactic Basic Standard, although they did not speak often. They were strongly connected to the Force of Lothal, making them capable of remarkable feats, including hyperspace tunneling. Hyperspace tunneling was a Force power that allowed the user to create a hyper tunnel to transport themselves and others across great distances. The tunnel itself was blue and was visually similar to traveling through hyperspace. Loth-wolves were large creatures, taller than a human. Loth-wolves were a concern for many of Lothal's early settlers, and farmers were known to carry blasters to protect themselves from creatures. They were depicted in cave paintings made by the ancient people of the planet, and were named in a Lothalite children's rhyme. By the Imperial Era, Loth-wolves were widely thought to be extinct as they had not been seen for over a hundred years.
- #4Purrgil
Keys: Purrgil's, Purrgil
Purrgil were a semi-sentient species of massive whales that lived in deep space, traveling from star system to star system. Regular purrgil were only the size of a small starship, while another type of purrgil, known as Purrgil Ultra, was significantly larger. Purrgil had streamlined bodies with a smooth-looking bluish-purple skin, four large hind tentacles, and multiple fins. Their heads had a characteristic bulbous shape with one eye on each side. Living in groups consisting of up to dozens of individuals, they were able to fly through hyperspace by creating simu-tunnels. The natural ability of the purrgil inspired sentients to develop hyperdrive technology and wayfinders that were used for hyperspace navigation. Most spacers considered purrgil to be pests due to their habit of approaching and flying into starships near their flight paths, and for ships crashing into their swarms during hyperspace travel. Numerous spacer deaths could be attributed to purrgil-related incidents, leading most spacers to fire upon them on sight. Purrgil were a species of whales that lived in space. While regular purrgil were only the size of a small starship, another type of purrgil, known as Purrgil Ultra, was significantly larger, reaching half of the length of an Imperial-class Star Destroyer. On average, they reached a height of 5.5 meters, or 18 feet, and a length of 30 meters, or 98 feet. Purrgil had streamlined, torpedo-shaped bodies and bulbous heads. Two blue, cloudy eyes were placed on opposite sides of the head. They had four large hind tentacles, a single dorsal fin, two side fins, a ventral fin, and an anal fin all of which allowed them to move gracefully across the vacuum of space. The skin of purrgil was smooth-looking, with a bluish-purple color and gray and yellow patches, or white. Their large mouths were sometimes filled with egg-shaped teeth that were irregularly spaced and varied in size. Others had full mouths of baleen instead of teeth. Some specimens had slender, whisker-like organs underneath their mouth. Purrgil Ultra had a larger amount of these whisker-like organs and more distinctive protrusions on top of their head. Purrgil also had a brain. In order to breathe, purrgil needed to inhale stores of a green gas, Clouzon-36. When they were not provided with enough of the gas, their skin turned to a gray to brownish color. Once sufficiently provided with the Clouzon-36, they metabolized it into hypermatter fuel, enabling them to jump into hyperspace, an alternate dimension that allowed traveling at lightspeed, by creating simu-tunnels. When they were about to jump into hyperspace, their tentacles started glowing. Purrgil lived in groups called flocks, pods, or swarms that could count up to dozens of individuals. Such groups were led by a bigger specimen. As a semi-sentient species, they showed a certain degree of intelligence but could unintentionally cause harm by crashing into starships, killing their occupants in the process. When wounded, purrgil staggered to their side. When feeling threatened, purrgil made a sound which has been described as "kind of sad". Purrgil were capable of traveling across different galaxies using intergalactic hyperspace lanes. One of those migration routes ended on the extragalactic planet Peridea, where the whales went to die and subsequently turned the planet into a graveyard as their bones formed a planetary ring.
- #5Reek
Keys: Reek, Reek's
Reeks were powerful and territorial mammals with a single central horn atop their head and a cheek horn on either side. They lived on grass plains and turf and had powerful hind limbs for charging. Though naturally herbivores, a starved reek could become a ravenous meat-eater and change its skin color to a deep red, while on other worlds they could be brown, gray, or sometimes yellow. Their sprawling posture and immense weight made them relatively slow-moving. They sported two large cheek horns that could be used for head-locking in combat with another reek as a show of dominance within a herd; these fights could end in the death of one of the reeks. The massive bull-like Reeks were even-toed ungulates, herbivores by nature, but they were often fed meat for exhibition sport and executions. This turned their leathery skin crimson and made the reeks much more aggressive. Reeks were unable to survive on only meat, so they were given just enough plant matter to keep them healthy. These stout brutes had tough leathery skin which in all reeks were normally brown in color and only changed depending on their diet. Reeks were usually found in herds and resided in the mossy grasslands and were very protective over their chosen area of wood-moss turf. They were very protective of their herds, fighting violently with intruders using their horns. Used in displays of dominance in the wild, they could gore opponents, and few would be able to survive a trampling attack from a reek. The horn-teeth grew continuosly. Its strong jaws, used to chop tough wood-moss chunks into pieces, could rend flesh and snap bones easily. They used their front claws for digging up wood-moss and because their cheek horns grew continuously, reeks would rub their horns on trees and rocks to shorten and sharpen them. The horns of male reeks are usually larger than those of females, and they display them to attract a mate. During mating season, male reeks battled each other in ramming contests for the choice females among their herds. While reeks were not terribly fast, they were intelligent. If given patient, gentle training, they could make excellent pack animals.
- #6Darkghast
Keys: Rancor's, Rancors, Darkghasts, Darkghast's, Darkghast, Rancor
The Darkghast was a large creature that lived in the caverns of the planet Mustafar. It was similar to the rancor, though it had two extra limbs and mandibles.
- #7Rancor
Keys: , Rancor's, Rancors, Darkghasts, Terentatek's, Darkghast's, Terentateks, Darkghast, Rancor, Terentatek
Rancors were very large, semi-sentient reptilian carnivores native to the planet Dathomir. Rancors were often seen as mindless, violent creatures, due to their extensive use as fighters across the galaxy, but were also capable of being trained and bonding well with their handlers and acquaintances. Standing around five meters tall, with their long arms, clawed fingers, immense, toothy jaws, and armored hides (which could withstand much blaster fire), rancors were a sight to behold, and made formidable predators; however, they were not inherently vicious to sentient life, despite their infamous and often-intimidating outbursts when threatened or antagonized. The proper plural term for a group of rancors in Galactic Basic Standard was a crash. Rancors had red blood. Rancors adhered to a social hierarchy, where an alpha was dominant over the other rancors until otherwise defeated. Despite their massive size and extremely intimidating appearance, the creatures were, inherently, benign. Wild rancors were eventually domesticated by the Witches of Dathomir, using witchcraft and dark force magick, though they still were formidable animals with a short fuse that could be provoked easily into a violent mood. Though they were often bred for fighting or battle purposes, rancors could be very loving to their owners and handlers if trained and properly socialized. Rancor younglings tended to be very energetic and blissfully unaware of their own strength and its effect on others, but they could be easily soothed with a chewing bone or a favorite toy; once they were taught basic obedience, young rancors could calm easily and grow to be very gentle, protective companions. The mouth and teeth of rancors were often cleaned by scavenging birds, the giants simply laying in-wait for the avian cleaners with their mouths open. However, with larger lifeforms, rancors would eat anything that they were capable of swallowing.
- #8Sher Kar
Keys: Sher Kar, Sher Kar's
The Sher Kar was the apex predator of its homeworld, the volcanic Outer Rim planet Mustafar. Large and scorpion-like, they possessed six segmented limbs with feet with at least four toes. A Sher Kar's tail was also segmented and far longer than the rest of its body, ending in two black prongs. The creatures' skin was brown in color and scaly, with spikes around the joints on their limbs. The head of a Sher Kar consisted of a large, toothy maw with a large pink tongue inside.
The favored prey of the Sher Kar was the large, egg-laying tulrus, and the predators could often be found deep in their nesting grounds. They were also dangerous to humans.
- #9Lava Fleas
Keys: lava fleas, lava flea's, Lava flea
Lava fleas were a species of six-legged insect native to the volcanic planet Mustafar. They had eyes that distinguish between light and darkness as well as powerful legs for jumping. They were well adapted to life on the world's fiery surface due to their tough shock-resistant exoskeletons, and ate through the planet's crust, forming a variety of underground caves which the native sentient Mustafarian species would inhabit. Due to the unforgiving nature of Mustafar, the Mustafarians had to make the most of the hardy native creatures and tamed lava fleas to use as mounts. Visitors to the world from other species also used the fleas for transport.
- #10Gutkurr
Keys: Gutkurr, Gutkurrs, Gutkurr's
Gutkurrs were a species of vicious predatory insect carnivores native to the planet Ryloth, where they maintained hunting grounds. "Gutkurr" can also be used by Ryloth natives as a pejorative term. Gutkurrs were a species of large carnivorous insects native to the planet Ryloth. They were considerably taller than an average humanoid and had sharp, curved claws and sharp teeth to snare their prey. Gutkurrs had short, thin arms but long and powerful legs that made them fairly fast. Their diet could include Twi'leks and can-cells. Gutkurrs had red eyes and spiky carapaces that were resistant to blaster bolts. They were said to be the second-most dangerous predator on Ryloth, the first being lyleks. They made a noise that sounded between a roar and a hiss. Gutkurrs inhabited Ryloth's equatorial forests alongside lyleks. Gutkurrs were pack hunters that could quickly surround careless individuals.
- #11Lylek
Keys: Lyleks, Lylek's, Lylek
Lyleks were a species of large insectoid predators native to the equatorial forest of the planet Ryloth. With their spiked pincers and powerful mandibles with a pair of tentacles near them, the lyleks were the only Rylothian lifeform more dangerous than the predatory gutkurrs. Their ridged, spiked carapaces could deflect blaster bolts. Although the lyleks lived in hordes, the bigger individuals often dismembered the smaller members of their kind. These hordes were led by a lylek queen, and their elaborate underground nests could cover up to 15 square kilometers. They communicated by hissing, clicking, and chittering. Their carapaces were tough enough to repel even heavy blaster fire, though a precisely aimed shot to the head could put one down.
- #12Can-Cells
Keys: Can-cell's, Can-cell, Can-cells
Can-cells were large, winged insectoids of more than three meters in length. On the ground, they walked on six spindly legs, but in the air, used four long wings to propel themselves, while their long, segmented tails provided stability. The can-cell was an insectivorous creature, but was also known to eat small rodents.
- #13Rolk-mangir
Keys: Rolk-mangir's, Rolk-mangirs, Rolk-mangir
Rolk-mangir (translated from Yinchorri as "horned death"), were an apex predator native to the planet Yinchorr. Four meters tall with an extremely tough hide, rolk-mangir were also quite fast and cunning, and lived in social groups centered around a strength-based pecking order. Although it was at one point fashionable for Imperial Moffs and other officials to train the beasts as guard animals, a series of violent incidents led to rolk-mangir being banned from private ownership throughout much of the galaxy. The rolk-mangir were pack predators native to the deserts of Yinchorr,[2] that were considered one of the planet's deadliest creatures. Rolk-mangir were four meters tall with a brown hide that was thick enough[1] to withstand a blaster shot at close range,[2] heavily muscled necks and a flat face adorned with six razor-sharp horns used to skewer prey and also to fight duels during mating season.[1] However, this overpowering brawn belied a surprising speed and cunning,[2] and rolk-mangir had a talent for hunting prey stealthily despite their size.[1] The beasts were aided in this pursuit by extremely sharp low-light vision and a very keen sense of smell, and were able to detect prey by scent alone from up to 20 meters.[3]
Rolk-mangir lived in loosely structured packs ranging between four and 16 individuals, packs that were centered around a pecking order based on strength, and duels between rolk-mangir in the same pack were common. These duels rarely resulted in serious injury or death, but the losers were often forced to leave the pack for a period of time—these exiled rolk-mangir were known to be especially dangerous, as they tended to be more violent and enraged. Although rolk-mangir could be trained as guard animals, they tended to only be loyal to their trainers, and were known to attack bystanders and flee if their trainer ever lost control.[1] The rolk-mangir were normally nocturnal hunters, but could be roused into attack by loud noises during the daytime.[2] The creatures generally moved around on all fours, but were known to raise up onto two legs during combat, in order to give themselves more leverage when trying to impale foes on their horns.[Renowned as apex predators on their homeworld, the reputation of the rolk-mangir—Yinchorri for "horned death"—spread far beyond Yinchorr, and the skulls of one of these creatures became coveted prizes among big-game hunters. Many specimens were exported to hunting preserves in the Core and in the Corporate Sector, and during the Imperial Period it became fashionable for Moffs and high-ranking Imperials to train infant rolk-mangir as guard animals. However, a series of violent incidents led to owning rolk-mangir being outlawed on most settled worlds, though there remained a black market trade of rolk-mangir cubs.
- #14Kayfoundo Kapa
Keys: Kayfoundo Kapa, Kayfoundo Kapa's
The Kayfoundo Kapa, Huttese for the "Hungry Hands", were a type of space-borne predator found in the Varl system, where they preyed upon members of the Hutt species until the Hutts fled their homeworld Varl to escape from the creatures. The Kayfoundo Kapa were drawn to heat and produced sounds that entranced their prey into approaching the predators.
- #15Fambaa
Keys: Fambaa, Fambaa's, Fambaas
Fambaas were quadruped amphibians with tough hides that could be found on the planets Naboo and Onderon. They had a tail made out of cartilage, strong joints in pillar-like limbs to handle heavy loads and broad feet with wide toes to increase their stability and stop them sinking into marshes. Biologists surmised that both the fambaas and the falumpasets of Onderon were originally brought there by Naboo merchants, but there was little fossil evidence to back up that hypothesis. Fambaas were herbivorous amphibians native to the swamps of the planet Naboo.
The largest terrestrial herbivores of the swamp, fambaas were technically amphibians but had the scaly hide of reptiles. The creatures were native to the Gungan Swamps of Naboo and the jungles of Onderon.Fambaas were large non-sentient amphibians native to the Gungan swamps of the planet Naboo, that could also be found on Onderon. They obtained food by easily knocking over trees to get at leaves and berries. They also foraged for underwater plants, breathing underwater and swimming with ease. They reached sizes of up to 9 meters. In the wild, fambaas traveled in herds of up to twelve, but formed breeding herds of hundreds of family units that were so large they were traditionally put to pasture in sacred swampy areas. There were also special fambaa stables contained inside the underwater hydrostatic bubble-enclosed cities for the domesticated breeds kept by Gungans. Females laid large numbers of sticky, gelatinous eggs, which they deposited in puddles and underwater. The young hatched with moist skin and gills, and upon maturity, the gills disappeared and their skin hardened.
The fambaas, though immense, were relatively docile herbivores who were only dangerous for their size and clumsiness. Their only known predators were sando aqua monsters breaching the surface of the swamp waters from the abyssal ocean beneath.
- #16Falumpaset
Keys: Falumpasets, Falumpaset, Falumpaset's
The falumpaset was a herbivorous species of mammal found on the planets Naboo and Onderon. In the wild, the species lived in swamps, forests, and plains in family groups. They were domesticated by the Gungans and, along with other large and hardy animals such as fambaas, were used to transport heavy loads such as the shield generators used in the Battle of Naboo. Both the Gungans and the Naboo used falumpasets to pull carts. They roamed the plains, forests and swamps of the planet (their long, stilt-like legs being excellent for wading) in large herds (as well as in family groups containing one adult bull and four to seven adult cows and their young), and their distinctive bellowing calls could be heard for kilometers around. Easily domesticated, falumpasets were popular mounts all over the galaxy. They were, however, known for their stubborn and uncooperative temperament. Wild falumpaset had long shaggy fetlocks to protect against nipping nyorks, etc. They were excellent swimmers. Bigger enemies included sando aqua monsters breaching the surface of the swamps from the abyssal ocean beneath. The terazod, the falumpaset, and the fambaa represented three different within the Gungan Swamps: they were three plant-eaters that existed in the same territory but had different feeding strategies. In the case of the falumpaset, when feeding underwater, it could only reach midlevel crustaceans and plants.Falumpasets were large mammals found in Naboo's swamps. They were omnivorous creatures, and ate both plants and crustaceans.
A breed of falumpaset was also native to the jungle world of Onderon. They were gray in color and had dark strips across their back. Two specially trained Gungan handlers were required to properly control a falumpaset. According to Gungan fables, such handlers aren't allowed to form close relationships with other beings lest the stubborn falumpasets grow jealous and even more ornery.
- #17Kaadu
Keys: Kaadu's, Kaadu
Kaadu were creatures native and indigenous to the planet Naboo. During a fight on the Great Grass Plains, kaadu were deployed with fambaas to support the Gungan Grand Army to fight off the Trade Federation battle droids. Kaadu were raised as livestock for consumption by some residents of the planet Batuu. They possessed a keen sense of hearing. Gungans considered taming a kaadu to be a sign of reaching adulthood. The kaadu was a two-legged reptavian that had great strength and endurance. They were swift and agile creatures that possessed sharp hearing and a keen sense of smell. They had long legs and sleek hides that helped them move swiftly on land and in water. Kaadu came in shades of yellow and bright oranges. The area around their eyes was a periwinkle color. The kaadu were primarily land dwellers, but they were also capable of breathing underwater for extended periods of time. They could be found in single-gender flocks of no more than 100 individual kaadu. A kaadu mother laid 6 to 8 eggs. For generations, the Gungans domesticated kaadu to use as steeds for traveling through the swamps and forests. The kaadu were respected by the Gungans for their strength, endurance, and loyalty. It became common for Gungans to decorate their kaadu with giant feathers. The Gungan Grand Army came to rely on them as mounts for their patrols.
- #18Howler
Keys: Howler, Howlers, Howler's
Howlers were extragalactic furred quadrupedal creatures native to the planet Peridea. Howlers could be tamed and ridden, and would respond to commands. Howlers were also ridden by a group of bandits that resided on Peridea. An extragalactic species of canines that inhabited the barren wilderness of wastelands and grasslands that made up the planet Peridea, howlers were non-sentient, quadrupedal animals with shaggy brown or white fur. Howlers exhibited extreme loyalty, often refusing to part with its rider, even if they had only recently met and despite scolding it and insisting it leave the rider alone. Indeed, howlers thrived on interactions and sought out the approval of the whatever creature they saw as the alpha. While it would take patience, howlers could be domesticated and would become devoted companions to their tamer. In particular, howlers grew attached to masters who were kind to them. They would also display signs of aggression, becoming agitated towards unfamiliar beings. That behavior frightened members of the Noti species, who shared a homeworld with the howlers.
- #19Lantern Birds
Keys: lantern bird, lantern bird's, lantern birds
The lantern birds were large flying creatures with incandescent tail feathers. They lived in shimmering nests high in the trees of Endor's forest moon. The lantern birds' tail feathers were used by Ewoks for medicinal potions. These avians were often eaten by Duloks, but the Ewoks considered them to be magical.
- #20Condor Dragon/Mantigrue
Keys: Condor dragon, Mantigrues, condor dragon's, mantigrue's, mantigrue, condor dragons
Condor dragons, also known as mantigrues, were a species of creature native to the moon of Endor. The Ewoks of Bright Tree Village on Endor posted watchers in the forest canopy above their homes to watch out for condor dragons. The shaman Logray wore a cap adorned with the skull of a baby condor dragon. They were distinguished by their bony dorsal ridges, large fangs, clawed legs, and red, leathery wings. Their yellow eyes had sharp vision, and they inhabited cliffsides that ran through the forests.Condor dragons, also referred to as mantigrues, were a hideous reptavian creature native to the Forest Moon of Endor, a world located in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories. They had bony ridges that ran along their spines, two clawed legs, and red, leathery wings with an average span of three meters. The dragons were also distinguished by their large fangs, piercing yellow eyes with sharp vision, and long, pointed beaks. Condor dragons had green skin, and the Ewok shaman Logray claimed that their skin was too thick to hurt. Condor dragons were carnivorous predators. When hunting, condor dragons launched from high buttresses and flew in spiral swoops. They often screeched while attacking. Large condor dragons were reputed to snatch Ewoks from the backs of their pony steeds. Although condor dragons preyed upon many species, such as the rearing spiders, they found Ewok ponies to be unpalatable. Some condor dragons were also scavengers. The dragons usually captured prey alive and brought them to their eyries. Their nests could be found in caves, canyons, and on crags. Condor dragons were both nocturnal and diurnal.
- #21Rakazzak Beast
Keys: Rakazzak beast's, Rakazzak beast, Rakazzak's, Rakazzak, Rakazzak beasts, Rakazzaks
Rakazzak beasts were massive eight-limbed creatures that were tamed and ridden by the sentient Yuzzum native to the moon Endor. The Yuzzum used them to hunt ruggers and other rodents in the tall grass of the moon and the sentient Ewoks also found on Endor lived in treetop villages high enough to be safe from rakazzak beasts.Rakazzak beasts were a type of gigantic spider-like creature that was considered swift and scary. They had six long, four-jointed legs with a single protrusion on the first joint and two on the second joint and then a further two protrustions between the second and third protrustion, which was the longest section of each limb. The last section of each limb split in two with two small fingers at the end of each segment. The beasts also had a pair of smaller limbs hanging from their underside which had at least two joints but did not reach the ground when the creature was stood. A rakazzak beast's body had four segements, each of which consisted of two loops joined in a figure of eight shape. The front segment had a beak like mouth and a pair of orange eyes on long stalks, which were the same purple color as the rest of the beast's body.
- #22Rugger
Keys: Rugger, Ruggers, Rugger's
Ruggers were a type of arboreal, herbivorous rodent native to the Forest Moon of Endor. Expert climbers, the agile creatures were hunted by many of the moon's predators, including the temptor, which used the furry heads of their long tongues to effectively bait the characteristically curious ruggers.
The sentient Yuzzum also hunted ruggers, using domesticated rakazzak beasts to try and catch the rodents when they hid in long grasses so that they could make roasted "rugger." Rugger song could be heard in the treetop villages of the sentient Ewok species—who made jerky from the rodents—as ruggers climbed through the settlements.Ruggers were a type of herbivorous rodent that mostly fed on nuts. They had bushy green-and-white fur covering their bodies but heads and tails that were instead covered in shorter brown-and-white fur, bar a tuft of longer fur at the tip of the tail. A rugger's eyes were orange and positioned on either side of the head, with two large ears pointing back above the eyes and a mouth and blue snout located below. Each of the creatures' four limbs were unfurred, showing their green-and-white skin, and ended in paws with three digits. The small claws on each digit and the suction cups on a rugger's paws allowed the creatures to spread evenly across vertical surfaces, adding to the agile rodents' incredible climbing abilities and extraordinary sense of balance. These traits had developed in response to the many predators that hunted ruggers.Ruggers were arboreal in nature, spending most of their time in the trees of their homeworld, the Forest Moon of Endor, although they also hid within tall grasses. The creatures would sometimes sing when they climbed. They were one of the better-off lifeforms in the moon's ecosystem but existed at the bottom of the food chain, often needing to use their dexterity to try and avoid the many predators to whom they were very vulnerable.
However, ruggers were intrepid and characteristically curious creatures, and one type of predator—known as the temptor—made effective use of this. Temptors hunted by hiding inside trees or underground and poking out only the tip of their tongue, which resembled the furry head of a small rodent. Many reckless ruggers met their end after following the bait into the temptor's lair out of curiosity, discovering a large pair of voracious jaws instead of the small rodent they expected.
- #23Temptor
Keys: Temptor, Temptor's, Temptors
Temptors were a type of quadrupedal creature found in the forests of the moon Endor. The long-necked creature had a brown leathery skin and 5 pairs of black eyes. To hunt in the wilderness, temptors were also equipped with small but sharp teeth in their jaws, as well as a long fur-tipped tongue to lure targets; perfect for an ambush against unsuspecting prey.Temptors were long-necked, leathery skinned quadrupeds that lived on the forest moon of Endor in the Outer Rim Territories. The creatures had ten eyes, small but sharp teeth in their powerful jaws, and barbel-like tendrils around their mouths. Temptors were ambush predators, using their long fur-tipped tongues as lures that mimic the tails of much less formidable animals, such as the verkle, to draw in their prey. As a defense mechanism, temptors could detach their tails when threatened as a means of escape.
- #24Verkle
Keys: Verkle, Verkles, Verkle's
Verkles were tusked, brown-and-white furred rodents that lived on the forest moon of Endor. The sentient inhabitants of Endor, the Ewoks, sometimes hunted verkles for their meat or to be used as bait. Verkles were rodents[2] that hailed from Endor, a forest moon[1] orbiting the planet of the same name.[4] They were covered in short, coarse fur that was tan and white. Their flesh, when exposed, was pink. They had a small mouth with four protruding tusks.[3] Although the Ewoks found that verkle meat tasted rather unpleasant, Wookiees like Chewbacca could be attracted by its distinctive odor.
- #25Puffer Pig
Keys: Puffer pigs, Puffer pig, Puffer pig's
Average length 0.9 meters (2 ft 11 in) Skin color Yellow Eye color Blue Distinctions Ability to inflate Ability to smell precious minerals Puffer pigs were a non-sentient, herbivorous,[1] mammalian pig species native to the planet Kyryll's World.[5] Puffer pigs were known to inflate their bodies to a large degree when they felt threatened.Puffer pigs were non-sentient mammalians.[1] Part of the pig species,[2] they were herbivorous.[1] Their homeworld was the planet known as Kyryll's World.[5] They lived in mines and amongst rocks[1] and were capable of sniffing out valuable minerals with the efficiency of a dozen mining scanners, making them very valuable to smugglers and miners.[2] The Mining Guild was known to pay very well for the animals.[7]
When frightened, puffer pigs would inflate their bodies to massive proportions with the intent of deterring any predators[6] and were capable of multiple size increases if further threats occurred.[2] An uninflated puffer pig measured slightly less than one meter long and a little more than half a meter tall, but when inflated, they could grow up to nine meters in length and sixty centimeters in height.[6]
Puffer pigs communicated using low squeals.
- #26Narglatch
Keys: Narglatch, Narglatch's
The narglatch, also known as narglatch cat, was a stealthy apex predator which could be found in diverse environments, such as the Gungan swamps of Naboo or the frozen tundras of Orto Plutonia. The narglatch male had additional fleshy spikes, while females were smoother and slightly smaller. They both had non-retractable claws and a fan-like tail that acted as a rudder during high-speed chases and turns. The narglatch also had densely padded feet that made for silent footfalls.[3]
Males and females only commingled during mating season. Females were more fierce hunters than males, but males could chase a female from her kill. A pregnant narglatch always gave birth to twins, one of each sex. Since young narglatch could hunt immediately upon birth, mothers abandoned them. Cubs hunted together until maturity, making themselves less vulnerable to such fellow predatory Naboo creatures, as saw-toothed granks and veermoks. When food was scarce, male narglatches would eat young cubs, so the cubs must ever remain vigilant. As they approached maturity, the cubs separated. Older males had longer chin quills.
A solitary hunter, narglatch silently stalked and quickly killed its prey, usually muudaboks, kaadu or jimvu. Narglatch generally avoided deep water, although they were capable swimmers should the need arise. One of the few creatures they actively avoided were zalaacas. The younger narglatch cubs preyed on herbivores, swamp and forest-dwellers like ikopi, while adults could take down bigger prey like fambaa. The female narglatch was faster, more agile and the more proficient hunter compared to her male counterpart, able to stalk prey over both land and in water. They had a remarkable sense of smell that allowed it to track its prey, and formidable night vision.
- #27Jimvu
Keys: jimvu, jimvu's
The jimvu was an agile, six-legged, ungulate-like reptile whose only defense was its swiftness. Their main predators were the veermok and narglatch. They lived in the Gungan swamps of Naboo.
- #28Muudabok
Keys: Muudabok, Muudabok's, Muudaboks
Muudaboks, swamp herbivores that shared a niche with the terazod preferred the muddy woodlands, but were also found in the shallows nibbling mintri and woosha plants. The muudabok used its claws to dig up roots and new shoots under rotting vegetable matter.
Like many swamp-dwellers, the muudabok had a streamlined shape for swimming, as it frequently crossed waterways from pasture to pasture, though it did not dive. At the end of a Muudabok's tail were buoyant knobs that acted as both floats and weapons. The muudabok was also a very good leaper and, with a peculiar bounding gait, took advantage of its ability to leap away from danger, considering its primary enemy was the speedy narglatch.During mating season, stags trumpeted and roared to attract females. Stags formed harems, which they defended against other males. Males' health declined after mating, making them more susceptible to predators.
While males hade a prominent large pair of horns, females had distinctive smaller, onion-shaped horns. Gungans made musical instruments out of male muudabok horns.
- #29Saw-toothed Grank
Keys: Saw-toothed grank, Saw-toothed grank's, grank
The saw-toothed grank was a carnivore native to the Gungan Swamps of Naboo. They were a medium-sized species of predator/scavenger with sharp teeth and powerful jaws. To hunt, they sensed vibrations through their hair from both the air and ground. They were the main predators of shiros, capable of breaking through the shell with their large, crushing jaws; They would also occasionally hunt narglatch cubs, though they would fear predation from adult narglatches.
Gungans found the taste of granks very appealing and would fry them. The toenails of granks were used to create Bongo engine parts, while their meat was a delicacy served in high-end restaurants.
On Coruscant, imported saw-toothed granks were sold as pets or zoo animals. Sometimes, like other imported non-sapient creatures to Coruscant, granks escaped and, like Coruscant's escaped imported anoobas and veermoks, ranged the lower levels of the city-planet and feasted upon garbage and unfortunate lifeforms.
- #30Anooba
Keys: Anooba's, Anooba, Anoobas
Anoobas were aggressive pack predators native to Tatooine. Opportunistic hunters as well as scavengers, these wolflike canines would attack virtually anything smaller than themselves (such as scurriers) and would band together in packs to bring down rontos, eopies, and similar creatures.Strong, horny beaks on their jaws assisted in the breaking of thick skeletons, while long, tufted tails helped to counterbalance the body and dissipate heat. Anoobas could vary in weight from 20 to 45 kilograms—males being larger than females—and often banded into packs of ten to twelve. These units were dominated by an alpha male and alpha female, and it was not uncommon to see entire packs waiting alongside podrace courses for an easy meal.Like the winged urusai, accounts spoke of anoobas being so engorged on meals that they are unable to move. This may be due in part to the fact that anooba mothers fed their young, born three to four at a time, through regurgitation.Anoobas were a species of vicious and carnivorous canine-like desert mammals. The species had a varying tones of gray fur covering its body. Additionally, anoobas also had a distinct lower jaw that was complemented with chin tusks. To survive in the wild, anoobas traveled in packs of 10 to 12 members. The species hunts prey by stabbing them with its chin tusks, then tearing them apart using its long claws and fangs.
Throughout the galaxy, anoobas had been used and domesticated for varying purposes.
- #31Shiro
Keys: Shiros, Shiro, Shiro's
Shiros were hard-shelled, benign, slow-moving reptiles native to the Gungan Swamps of Naboo.
A Shiro's main defense was to retract its head, legs and tail into its spiny shell. They fed on mintri, zaela, grahn vine, chak-root, and occasional mud-dwelling crustaceans and mollusks. Shiros were very popular with Gungan cooks.
- #32Urusai
Keys: Urusai, Urusai's
Native to Tatooine, the urusai was a yellow-and-blue reptavian that feasted upon carrion (often to the point of being too engorged to take flight). They were essential to the desert ecosystem, as their diet prevented decaying corpses from spreading lethal diseases—their bare skin undermined the collection of bacteria. With their delicate olfactory senses, urusais rode the rising thermals of the blue Tatooine sky, nesting under eaves and on cliff outcroppings.Females had two wings, while males had four—the larger rear wings were used for flying, while the smaller front ones were strictly for mating displays. Balancing on their strong tails, they wooed prospective mates, who laid two to three eggs per brood. In a harsh microcosm of Tatooine's brutality, the first young to hatch destroyed the remaining eggs—unless two had hatched simultaneously, whereupon the chicks would duel until one fell to the ground.
With a wingspan of two meters, a hefty weight of forty-three kilograms, and a lifespan of up to fifty years, the urusai was an imposing reptavian species.
They formed a symbiotic relationship with Sarlaccs (specifically with the gigantic females) - urusai clean the teeth and tentacles of the female Sarlacc while the female Sarlacc offers up killed food to her flying reptavian custodians, which also may nest near her.
- #33Veermok
Keys: Veermok's, Veermoks, Veermok
The veermok was a large, ferocious primate native to the Gungan swamps and woodlands of Naboo. The veermok lived around the fringes of the swamp and woodlands hunting prey, such as jimvu, hrumph calves, and narglatch cubs, through stealth and surprise. They avoided deep water, as they were weak swimmers. They also had a unique bounding movement that took advantage of powerful upper torso and shoulder rotation, along with strong lengthy arms that dwarfed their skinny hind limbs. A veermok also had powerful, tri-tipped claws for gouging and grabbing. The hair on a veermok's back and chest provided protection and insulation. Their hair rose on their back when alarmed or angered. Hairless lower anatomy allowed for easy hygiene.Veermoks were generally solitary, unless mating. Mates apparently formed a bond during the time in which they were together. If one mate was killed, the remaining mate would take revenge on whatever or whomever was responsible. They were usually semi-territorial, but not always, defending turf from other veermoks. Females mated once a year, building nests on the ground in a bed of leaves and branches. The veermok had a gestation period of three months. They usually gave birth to twins, which in most cases were immediately abandoned by their mother, unlike the more nurturing rancor. It appears that in a few unusual cases a mother would care for her offspring, at least for a short time. Forced to fend for themselves, abandoned twins matured quickly.Veermoks had an unusual resistance to blasters.
- #34Hrumph
Keys: Hrumph, Hrumphs, Hrumph's
The hrumphs were powerful, thick-necked herbivores native to the Gungan Swamps of the Mid Rim planet Naboo.Hrumphs received their name from the loud, deep, guttural sounds they produced. They had four long horns for defense and for the protection of their two long, sensitive ears. They were not choosy about their food, because they had a sharp beak for nipping tough xosha grass, which they knelt to reach, and the bark of hsuberry trees, tassler trees, and hydenock. Three to four meters long at the shoulders, hrumphs were quite large. Hrumphs had sparsely-haired hides and protective cartilaginous spines on their backs. They also had shaggy fetlocks to protect against nipping crustaceans.
Hrumphs were quite nearsighted and, with an irritable temperament, they never hesitated to charge. They were also good leapers, despite their bulk. Female hrumphs gave birth to one calf at a time. Herds defended young from predators like veermoks by encircling them and facing outward like a shield. They had four legs ending in white furred black feet and stood between three and four meters tall at the shoulder, weighing over thirty kilograms. The creature's skin was lightly tanned but was interrupted by a smattering of purple dots that began at the hrumph's stomach and then increased in concentration moving toward the herbivore's spine, where they morphed into a series of cartilaginous indigo spikes. The spots also continued into a streak of purple in the hrumph's otherwise white fur tail. A hrumph's head consisted of a black beak beneath a purple crest with two small blue eyes atop it. Above these, the creature's four long horns protruded upwards, primarily white in color but with blue patterning and black tips. The herbivores used these horns together with their highly sensitive ears to scout for predators and avoid them.
- #35Zalaaca
Keys: Zalaaca, Zalaacas, Zalaaca's
Zalaacas were swift, intelligent, and fierce omnivores native to the Gungan swamps of Naboo.Little was known about their habits. They seemed to dwell primarily in woody uplands, yet were strong swimmers. Narglatches would not attack adult zalaacas but zalaacas would attack and eat narglatches.Zalaacas had excellent nocturnal eyesight. They also had grinding molars and slicing tusks to help rip apart prey. Male zalaacas were colored blue and yellow while the females were just dappled blue. Zalaacas also had sharp claws, fetlock spikes, and a finned tail for swimming. Due to certain anatomical similarities, zalaacas might have been related to sando aqua monsters. Not much was known about their breeding habits. It was conjectured that zalaacas lived in family groups of one adult male to between one and four adult females and their young, and that the adult female gave birth to one offspring every ten years.A Gungan rite of passage was to capture a foal with the intent of training it as a cavalry mount, this was extremely dangerous, and not often successful. As zalaacas were a natural enemy of the kaadu, this was a test of courage for both mount and rider.A fully trained zalaaca, while rare, made a vicious but loyal war mount, protecting its rider with its strength and savagely attacking the enemy. Riding a zalaaca standing up was the ultimate test of ridership.
- #36Peko-peko
Keys: Peko-peko's, Peko-pekos, Peko-peko
Peko-pekos were large, strong reptavians, whose raucous squawks carried over long distances. They were native to the Gungan swamps of Naboo. Another breed lived on Nal Hutta. Impressively sized specimens were known as "Giant Peko-Pekos." Peko-pekos congregated in large flocks but generally traveled in pairs and mated for life. Both male and female had beautiful indigo-sapphire plumage, and both were the same size. Peko-pekos had powerful wings and fairly toxic skin and feathers. Most animals left peko-pekos alone, as their toxins caused sharp stomach pains, severe vomiting, and occasional deaths. Not all animals were susceptible, however. Ironically, the peko-peko's blood contained antivenin for glie-based poisons. They had keen eyesight, clawed wings to help them climb, and a powerful beak that could crush even the hardest of nuts.Besides nuts, the peko-peko ate kaadu eggs and small creatures. Certain nuts and seeds would not germinate unless they passed through the peko-peko's gastrointestinal system. They were preyed upon by tusk cats. The peko-peko nested in the high hollows of trees. The female laid two eggs at a time. Both partners cared for hatchlings. Peko-peko couples are formed for life, and each couple lives in its private area, removed from the others. According to Naboo folklore, the rare sight of more than two peko-pekos flying together was a good omen.Skilled mimics, they imitated perfectly the sounds of many other animals. Easily taught to talk in captivity, they were a favorite pet of both Gungans and Naboo. The peko-peko's skin is toxic, and most predators leave it alone. Sentient hunters prey on the peko-peko to harvest the amazing anti-venin the animal secretes.
- #37Sando aqua monster
Keys: Sando aqua monster's, Sando aqua monster, Sando aqua monsters
The sando aqua monster was the largest carnivorous aquatic mammal living in the oceans of Naboo. Little was known about these giant creatures, and there were many myths and legends regarding their origins and habitats. What little was known about them terrified researchers as well as Naboo citizens and denizens across the galaxy.Named for its prodigious size and monstrous appetite,[5] the sando aqua monster had a long, sinewy body that was almost feline in appearance, with hind legs used for movement on the ocean floor and massive finned claws to propel it through the water. Lacking a layer of fat or blubber, it was poorly streamlined, and not fully adapted to swimming. Males could reach over 200 meters in length, with females being at least 150 meters in length.[6] Being mammalian,[1] females nursed their young for about a year. Females bore only one pup per birth. The average lifespan of a sando was thought to have been several hundred years,[6] although their elusiveness made any accurate study difficult. In order to maintain their large size sands had to constantly eat anything in their path. Because decent-size prey is so scarce, the Sando aqua monster is a lethargic and sluggish animal most of the time, spending 90% of the day lying dormant and motionless.Their limbs were part flippers, part claws; scientists theorized that they had only recently evolved from land-based ancestors.[7] Some believed the large, bulbous organ located toward the end of the sando's tail to be a possible remnant of life on land, though the exact function of the organ is unknown. There were even reports of sando monsters surfacing in swamp lakes and attacking falumpaset and fambaa herds, and unsubstantiated reports of them sunning themselves on sandbars.[6] Unsurprisingly, scientists failed to observe their eating habits, or how the beasts sustained their gargantuan bulk. The sando life cycle was a mystery, as they were dangerous, although reclusive, predators
When it spots its prey (such as opee sea killers and colo claw fish), the sando gets close to it quickly, then opens its large mouth, letting out a roar before biting down. If the prey is small, the sando will swallow it whole. If the prey is large, the sando would either bite it in half or physically tear it in half to stop it from escaping.[4] To most natives of Naboo, sando aqua monsters were more of a myth than an actual creature, mainly because they had never been observed in the wild and reports of their washed-up carcasses were rare.
This species was affected by various skin parasite, like san-lampris and san-pilot.[6]
Supposedly, due to certain anatomical similarities, the zalaaca might have been a close relative of the sando aqua monster.
- #38Nyork
Keys: Nyorks, Nyork, Nyork's
The nyork was a small, hard-shelled, carnivorous clam native to the swamps of Naboo. They "nipped" with their mouths located inside their shells, and would jump out of the water at whatever seemed to be prey to them. Gungans also ate nyorks, usually wrapping the meat in nave leaves.
- #39Dianoga
Keys: Dianoga's, Dianoga
Dianoga were large omnivorous cephalopods that hailed from the planet Vodran in the Si'Klaata Cluster, located in Hutt Space region of the galaxy. Although primitive, they were actually sentient, and some dianoga were sensitive to the Force. Dianoga were sentient cephalopods characterized by seven suckered tentacles, an eyestalk, a mouth of sharp teeth, and several hearts. They could grow to a length of 7 to 10 meters. Their blood had a blue tint. Dianoga were omnivores, feeding on smaller animals like fish and crabs, but also feed on bones and aquatic plants. The trash squid was part of the Dianoga family. Although they could survive in the open air for short periods of time, dianoga were entirely dependent on water, lest they completely dried out. While physically hermaphroditic, dianoga could choose to identify as female, diangous (the most common gender), or male. The mating process involved partners exchanging eggs with one another. The normal skin color of a mature individual was a deep purple, but dianoga could change their color and patterns for active camouflage. They could notably turn black, gray, and even transparent. They also had the ability to regenerate lost limbs. They had excellent hearing. Dianoga had a primitive tribal culture. When they were not feeding, they often spoke a deep, complex humming language. Because its reverberations carried so completely in the water, that language scared away all nearby prey. Their people venerated water, which they called "the Great Cleanser When It Was Time to Be Cleansed," and believed in reincarnation. Dianoga hailed from Vodran, a swampy planet located in the Si'Klaata Cluster. They shared their world with the sentient Vodrans, who usually stayed well away from the deeper wetlands.
- #40Leviathan
Keys: Leviathan's, Leviathan, Leviathans
The Leviathans were an ancient species of bioengineered serpentine creatures created by fallen Dark Jedi during the Hundred-Year Darkness. Leviathans were large, carnivorous reptiles, created to roam the battlefields as living superweapons and draw the life energies of enemy soldiers into blister traps that dotted their wide backs. They were hatched from eggs, and young Leviathans appeared serpentine with no limbs, eyes, or even the species' signature blister traps. Despite this, Leviathans were aggressive towards other living organisms even at this stage of their lives. As adults, Leviathans developed into large bipedal creatures with four smaller forelimbs and two tentacles around the jaws. The hide of an adult Leviathan was incredibly tough, and enabled them to even travel through lava unscathed. During their adult stage, Leviathans also developed several blister traps used to store the life energies of their prey. When they killed a being, they absorbed all of the victim's life force and knowledge. Even if a being was freed from the creature's blister traps, the victim was rapidly aged and weakened. Adult Leviathan could also interfere with the Sense abilities of Force-sensitives, causing the victim to hear screams, develop headaches and trigger obsessive behavior centered around making the pain stop. Adult Leviathans had long tentacles surrounding a gaping maw filled with rows of long teeth, two sets of eyes—one atop the other—and four nostrils in a similar arrangement. Leviathans were capable of projecting fire, which helped engender their fearsome reputation. While those Leviathans on Corbos had purple skin, their offshoots on Kesh had a bluish-green hue to their skin. Leviathans as a species were capable of living for millennia and attacked when prey was around. Leviathans could be slain through sustained lightsaber strikes. While their large size gave them an advantage over most other lifeforms in close-quarter scenarios, Leviathans could also be destroyed by concentrated fire from turbolaser cannons and even Force lightning. As with many other sentient and non-sentient lifeforms, Leviathans could also be electrocuted. Despite its massive girth, the Leviathan had incredible speed and was capable of outrunning its prey. The Leviathan was also equipped with a series of blister traps on its back, which it used to drain the life energies of its prey. The beast actively hunted its prey, and when it had trapped them within its tendrils, the blister traps resonated with a bright blue aura as it began to drain the life energy and knowledge of its prey. The Leviathan hunted a diverse range of species including Humans, Rodians, Keshiri, S'kytri and even non-sapient creatures like uvaks. After digesting the life essences of their prey, the Leviathans also absorbed their knowledge and intelligence, which could be accessed by whoever controlled them. Should the beast be directly attacked by other beings, the Leviathan relied on its mass, teeth, and tendrils for self-defense. Despite their size and strength, the Leviathans only had the cognitive intelligence and reasoning of a non-sentient pet. They regarded all other beings and animals as prey to be devoured and lacked any form of intelligent speech. Instead, the Leviathans communicated through grunts and roars. The Dark Jedi Baron Remulus Dreypa used a Sith amulet to direct and control the Leviathans on Kesh. Even those not controlled by a master still posed a danger to other beings. Several Leviathans on Corbos were known to live for millennia and attack whenever they sensed the presence of a large number of prey.
- #41Rakghoul
Keys: Rakghoul, Rakghoul's, Rakghouls
Rakghouls were a type of Sith-spawned mutants, engineered by the Sith Lord Karness Muur. Desiring an army to rule over and seeking a way to cheat death as so many other Sith before and after him did, Muur had a talisman forged that he poured his spirit and power into, one that eventually came to be known as the Muur Talisman. Muur's talisman could turn almost any sentient being near him into a mindless rakghoul which he could control, but he found that there were exceptions: Force-sensitives and certain alien species could resist the talisman's effects. Thus, Muur engineered the "rakghoul plague," a virus-like disease that could be spread by a rakghoul's bite or a scratch from its claws, and that subjected the victim to a slower transformation into a rakghoul. Jealous and fearful of his power, Muur's Sith rivals killed him, and over time, the Muur Talisman came to reside on the Outer Rim world of Taris where the rakghoul plague ran rampant throughout the world's impoverished Undercity, creating vast numbers of rakghouls. The people of Taris would manage to put an end to the rakghoul presence on their world at some point prior to the Imperial Era. Hideous and possessing an appetite for flesh, Rakghouls were non-sentient, and were most commonly simple and animalistic in their behavior, with some even referring to the creatures as "mindless". These feral rakghouls, known also as "lower rakghouls", were slaves to their instincts and especially their hunger, often traveling in packs numbering between four and eight, and attacking anything that looked or smelled like potential food. Though they were not a creature that held to any form of heirarchy, certain rakghouls, known to some as "rakghoul fiends", exhibited a manner of influence over their "lower" rakghoul brethren. Hardy and vicious, these rakghouls were generally believed to somehow maintain bits of their former intelligence, and would direct other rakghouls to trap and ambush prey; it was even rumored that these rakghouls could use weapons. Rakghouls only truly reached their full potential, however, when under the power of the Muur Talisman. When a being possessed the Muur Talisman, they were able to enslave the rakghouls to their will, and command them as an army with the potential for nearly infinite expansion. Under the talisman's effects, rakghouls became more demure, and were able to call upon the knowledge and skills they had possessed in their former lives. Unfortunately, though, their former personalities could not be restored, as all that remained in the rakghouls was an imprint of who they had once been. Rakghouls were a product of the Sith alchemy performed by the ancient Sith Lord, Karness Muur. When he forged the talisman in which he would later invest his mind and will, Muur imbued the amulet with the power to almost instantaneously transform nearby sentients into rakghouls that he could command and control. But the talisman's powers did not work on all: Force-users and certain non-Human species were immune to the talisman's effects. To rectify this, Muur engineered the "rakghoul plague", a virus-like disease which could be spread from a rakghoul's bite or scratch. Individuals infected with this disease would later transform into rakghouls themselves; incubation periods varied, though the infection's manifestation was generally a rapid and painful experience, becoming a rakghoul within a timeframe of six to forty-eight hours. The bodywide mutation manifested as the body would become twisted, skin pigmentation would drain and the victim would attain a whitened corpse-like state. Victims would also bleed from pores in the skin, and from places such as the eyes. Though they could be cured while being mutated, once a victim fully transformed into a rakghoul, the only means of salvation laid in death.
- #42Nekghoul
Keys: Nekghoul, Rakghoul's, Rakghoul, Rakghouls, Nekghouls, Nekghoul's
Nekghouls were a more evolved and intelligent strain of rakghouls that had evolved in the ruins of Taris after driving the Outcasts to extinction by the time of the Cold War, three centuries following the planet's destruction in 3956 BBY, where for a while they were the planet's only inhabitants. They were larger and much smarter than rakghouls, which suggested that they may have qualified as their own separate species, and they also stood upright, compared to the standard hunched stance of rakghouls. Nekghouls were also unable to infect or transform their victims. What particularly set nekghouls apart from rakghouls was that they were sensitive to the Force, though they were untrained and their violent response to intruders made them lean more towards the dark side. They were capable of speech but had no known history or record of their origins but it's possible that it was because they were descended from the Outcasts. This led to some speculation on whether they were Jedi or Sith infected with the rakghoul plague or perhaps the result of mutation caused from radiation by Taris' shattered reactors.
- #43Terentatek
Keys: Terentatek, Terentatek's, Terentateks
Terentateks were creatures which fed off the blood of Force-sensitives, and inhabited caves and tombs strong with the dark side of the Force. Terentateks resembled rancors, although smaller (approximately one-quarter the size of a fully-grown bull Rancor) except they had a number of spines growing from their backs and a pair of flaps, or tusk-like projections attached to their mouths. They also had massive claws (four to a hand). The tusks and claws of a terentatek were highly venomous. It was theorized that they were once rancors, subjected to mutations by the Sith, and that when the dark side was weak in the galaxy, terentateks would hibernate and remain dormant for many years, only to return when the dark side was strong again.
- #44Tuk'ata
Keys: Tuk'ata, Tuk'ata's
The Force-sensitive tuk'ata, or Sith hounds, were used for thousands of years to guard the tombs of the Dark Lords of the Sith on Korriban. Tuk'ata were oversized beasts that were bred to be both fearless and relentless where they were tasked with guarding the Sith tombs on Korriban. Their distinctive characteristics included sharp horns, long claws and savage teeth. Tuk'ata were unusually intelligent and were even able to communicate with one another through means unknown. It was claimed that originally the species were non-violent grazing animals before being corrupted by Sith alchemy experiments that awakened latent parts of their brain which transformed them into unnatural abominations. On occasion, random mutations produce some tuk'ata that were able to live for centuries and grew to immense proportions. Tuk'ata could speak the Sith language. Tuk'ata were said to draw nourishment from the Dark side of the Force itself.
- #45Imperial Sentinel
Keys: Imperial Sentinel, Imperial Sentinel's, Imperial Sentinels
Imperial Sentinels were armored-and-cloaked warriors assigned to serve Emperor Palpatine's Dark Side Adepts. Cloned in hidden facilities on the secret Imperial throne world of Byss, these mute giants were mutated by Dark Side Adepts and injected with chemicals that suppressed their higher brain functions, causing them to become completely subservient. For the duration of their natural existence, Sentinels were slaves to their assigned Adept and carried out their master's bidding without question. They accompanied the Adepts on missions off-world, typically acting as bodyguards. Mainly remaining on Byss to guard the Emperor's Citadel, Sentinels had only been seen a handful of times, leading to a great deal of speculation among the upper echelons of the Empire as to what exactly these armored behemoths were. The origins of the Imperial Sentinels remained a mystery for most in even the highest levels of the Galactic Empire. Even the Imperial Sovereign Protectors, an elite cadre of Royal Guardsmen trained in the dark side of the Force, had no idea, nor interest, in how the Sentinels came to be. The Sentinels were in actuality an early experiment of Emperor Palpatine and his inner circle of dark-side Force-users to create a race of beings completely subservient to their will. Sentinels were cloned from tissue stock in hidden facilities on the Imperial fortress world of Byss, where chemicals were introduced into their bodies during the gestation period, suppressing higher mental abilities such as speech. During the growth cycle, Sentinels were mutated by Dark Side Adepts through Sith alchemy as part of their training, during which the Adepts would attempt to form a mental bond with the Sentinels. If the process was successful, the Sentinels would end up as mindless living hulks totally dependent upon the will of the Adepts for purpose or movement. If the process was unsuccessful, the would-be sentries were simply disposed of. First-generation Imperial Sentinels were deemed too dangerous to keep around, leading to rumors that they may have been cloned from Force-sensitive individuals. Later generations were much less powerful, but far easier to control. Sentinels functioned primarily as bodyguards for Dark Side Adepts. Whenever Palpatine sent an Adept on a high-priority mission for the Empire, one or more of these titans would escort them off-world. Few of these creatures existed, however, and when not on-duty with an Adept, they would remain on Byss to protect the Emperor's Citadel. Some Sentinels also guarded the more secure and private areas of the Imperial Palace on Coruscant. Gargantuan in size, Imperial Sentinels were easily distinguishable from any of Palpatine's other minions; said to be twice the size and strength of other Imperial guards. The sight alone of a Sentinel following in the wake of a Dark Side Adept was enough to strike fear into the hearts of the Emperor's enemies. Sentinels were mute due to the introduction of harmful chemicals into their bodies which also caused them to lose the ability to think for themselves. They were altered through the use of Sith alchemy and completely dependent upon the will of Adepts, only able to do what they were told. It was rumored that Adepts had the ability to view what Sentinels perceived, thus allowing them to maintain complete control of the titans; however this claim was never verified. The primary choice of weapons for Sentinels were large vibro-axes, though they were also proficient in the use of blasters. They also had training in both martial arts and beast-riding. Sentinels donned heavy battle armor under long, reddish-purple cloaks emblazoned with intricate gold patterns at the chest, back, and shoulders. They wore large helmets that concealed both the head and neck, leaving only their glowing red eyes visible. No parts of their bodies were left uncovered.
