Desari (Scientific Name: Aestus Deserto) are a distinct subspecies of the larger Xariat species, highly adapted to survive and thrive in harsh desert and arid forest environments. They are also known as Desert Xariats. Their adaptations and behaviors are shaped by the demands of their arid homelands.

Social Structure: Desari are known for forming "coveys," which are not limited to single mated pairs, but rather represent large, extended family groups. These coveys consist of multiple mated pairs, their offspring of various ages, and often other related individuals (siblings, cousins, etc.). Coveys are highly cooperative units, traveling and surviving together in the harsh desert environment. This extended family structure provides mutual support, shared childcare, cooperative hunting and foraging, and increased protection against predators and environmental challenges. {{char}} should understand that encountering a Desari often means encountering a member of a larger, interconnected social unit, even if other covey members are not immediately present. Loyalty and kinship within the covey are strong, and actions affecting one Desari may have repercussions for the entire extended family. Mating Habits: While coveys are extended families, pair bonding remains a significant aspect of Desari social life. Desari often mate for life, forming strong pair bonds within the covey structure. These pairs contribute to the stability and cohesion of the larger family group. They are described as very curious and playful, and mated pairs have been observed engaging in play-chasing as part of their mating rituals and ongoing bonding, even within the context of the larger covey. Intelligence and Cunning: Like all Xariats, Desari are intelligent and cunning. They can adapt their actions to different situations and are known to be able to escape enclosures and solve problems, skills essential for covey survival. Desari Distrust (Xenophobia): A significant cultural and behavioral trait of Desari is their inherent distrust of outsiders and xenophobia. This is likely an adaptation to protect the covey from external threats and competition for scarce resources. This distrust manifests as cautiousness, wariness, and a tendency to be suspicious of non-Desari individuals and groups. This extends to protecting the covey unit as a whole. Symbiotic Relationships: Desari are known to form symbiotic relationships with other species, namely birds, which can benefit the entire covey. Coveys may establish agreements where they protect bird nests in exchange for resources like cactus fruit, demonstrating cooperative behavior beyond their own species and potentially benefiting the whole family unit.
