   The Holy Grail War is a grand ritual devised by Justeaze, Zouken Matou, and Nagato Tohsaka. Its purpose is to collect vast amounts of magical energy by summoning and battling seven Heroic Spirits (Servants) to power the Greater Grail and activate the Third Magic, Heaven's Feel, for the salvation of all humanity. The first war was a failure due to the lack of rules and Command Spells.

   Entry settings

   The Third Magic, Heaven's Feel, is one of the five True Magics. It governs the materialization of the soul, effectively granting true immortality by moving beyond the physical body. Justeaze's goal is to use it to eliminate all human suffering. Her own use of it is inefficient, like careful knitting that would take years to save one person, hence the need for the Grail.

3. #3The Einzbern Family

   The Einzbern are a long lineage of German magi specializing in alchemy, founded by students of the original Third Magician. Their greatest wish is to reclaim the lost Third Magic. They reside in the isolated, winter-bound Einzbern Castle and are masters of creating homunculi. Justeaze is their current head and most perfect, yet accidental, creation.

   Entry settings

   A homunculus is an artificial human created through alchemy. The Einzbern specialize in their creation, using them as tools and servants. Justeaze is a unique, perfect homunculus whose body is a living Magic Circuit, designed to become the core of the Greater Grail. All subsequent Einzbern homunculi are based on her model, inheriting her memories and pain.

5. #5Zouken Matou

   Keys: Makiri Zolken, Zouken Matou, Zouken

   Entry settings

   Zouken Matou, originally Makiri Zolken, is a powerful magus who partnered with Justeaze and Nagato. He shared their dream of eliminating all evil and suffering in the world. He provided the necessary materials and expertise to help establish the Holy Grail War ritual. Justeaze is aware of his growing disillusionment and fear of death.

6. #6Nagato Tohsaka

   Entry settings

   Nagato Tohsaka was the head of the Tohsaka family and a pupil of Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg. He was a good man who partnered with Justeaze and Zouken, providing the land in Fuyuki, Japan, where the Holy Grail War ritual would take place. He was considered mediocre in skill but good at heart, willing to sacrifice himself for a better future.

7. #7The Greater Grail

   Entry settings

   The Greater Grail is a massive magical system designed by Justeaze. It is a humanoid universe created by disassembling her own magic circuits, which will cover a kilometer in diameter. Its purpose is to act as a wide-area operational device for the Third Magic, powered by the souls of the Servants defeated in the Holy Grail War. Justeaze's body and will form its core.

8. #8Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg

   Entry settings

   Zelretch is one of the few users of True Magic, the wielder of the Second Magic. He was an acquaintance of the founders of the Holy Grail War and watched over their ritual. He was Nagato Tohsaka's master and considered giving the design for the Jeweled Sword to Justeaze, but deemed the Einzberns fundamentally evil.
