   Drakmor is one great continent — charted, taxed, fought over. Beyond it: dark oceans, unmapped coasts, and the sky, all rumored and real. No prophecy carries anyone's name. No script bends toward any soul. The world runs on its own logic: seasons, economy, weather, war, rumor. Realms of note: the five Severed Successor States (humans, endless border war); the Church of the Severed Sun; Ashval, the locked elven forest-kingdom; the Delvemarks, dwarven mountain holds; the Steppe of Horns, orc sky-law; the Glimmerwood, fae bargain-country; the Sinking Marches, drowned coast and the smuggler city of Gravemarch; the volcanic Ash Reaches, dragonkin; the mixed-species Free Cities on every seam; and the Wilderland between it all — green roads, old battlefields, peoples no kingdom claims. Every living thing carries a soul crystal. Monsters carry better ones, and those run the world. Certain fixed places in Drakmor are wrong — worn through. Locals know where. Locals do not say. Travel costs days. Wounds heal at the speed of wounds. Nothing is marked as important. Everything is remembered.

2. #2Soul Crystals — The Economy of Soulsconstant

   Every living being in Drakmor has a soul crystal: seat of the soul, faintly warm, growing slowly with its owner. It outlasts its owner by minutes — which is the whole economy. Monsters and entities carry crystals of another order: raw power with no person attached. They fuel lamps, cold-chests, gate-wards, golem cores, healing staves, crystal-cannons, and the fortunes of realms. Grades: Dull (beasts), Clear (monsters), Faceted (named monsters), Resonant (elder things) — and a fifth grade with no official name that miners call Singing. Crystals taken from things that died badly, or died in the wrong places, come up warm in ways that have nothing to do with heat. The Guild pays most for the grades it does not explain. A clean kill yields clean crystal. A terrified death clouds it. A death in the thin places yields crystal that is sometimes still warm at purchase.

3. #3World Engine — The Road That Never Endsconstant

   Drakmor generates events from its own logic — economy, weather, politics, migration, rumor — never from a script. Each scene may contain zero or more of: a weather change, a rumor overheard, a stranger on the road, a price shift, a festival or funeral, a posted notice, animal unease, a closed road, a full inn, a soldier patrol, a beggar with real information. Most scenes are just Tuesday. Not everything is a hook — most things are texture. NPCs have lives off-screen: they travel, promote, marry, sicken, die of fever, hold grudges. They are not quest dispensers; sometimes a job is just a job. Consequences arrive on their own schedule: a theft forgotten in a free city is remembered for a generation in a village. Spared enemies, unpaid debts, and unopened doors wait without being marked as important. If something is declined, it happens without the player and reaches them later, secondhand. If the player stalls, the world does not — it moves, and the player sees it move.

4. #4Magic and Magitechselective

   Magic in Drakmor is borrowed, never owned. Casters draw charge through a crystal — their own soul-stone yields a trickle; harvested monster crystal yields rivers. The same crystals drive magitech: golem cores, crystal-cannons (hobgoblin-built, best on the continent), gate-wards, divination engines, gnome workshops that hum at night. Heavy crystal exposure does things, in order: insomnia, then shared dreams with strangers, then hearing your own name spoken from inside your pack, then skill arriving in your hands that you never learned, then — rarely, never officially — dreams that leave residue in the waking world. Mud on the pillow after dreaming of a mine. Guild policy denies the ladder exists. Guild veterans do not sleep near their packs. Healings cost crystals or leave scars; sometimes both. Nothing borrowed is free, and the lenders are awake.

5. #5The Guild Systemselective

   Adventure guilds stand in the Free Cities and larger towns — a convenience, not a world; most of Drakmor's life happens off the ledger. Ranks by witnessed deed, never bought: Brass, Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Mithril, Adamant. Contracts on the board, hazard pay, a bunk, a scale to weigh what you killed. Rank-ups require merit, a demonstrated feat at the next tier, and a proctor's sign-off. Iron is where first real deaths happen. Bronze pairs adventurers deliberately. Silver works incursion response and 'thin place' reconnaissance — with mandatory crystal-exposure counseling, and veterans who stop discussing certain contracts. Gold works cursed sites and noble wars. Mithrils number under thirty; kingdoms listen when they speak. Adamants are one per generation, their crystal loads sealed and studied. Above the listed ranks there is a space where an eighth should be. Nobody fills it. Everybody has heard of it.

6. #6The Severing — Backstoryselective

   Two hundred years ago the empire that held half of Drakmor ended in a single night. No two chroniclers agree how. The official histories of five kingdoms give five different accounts, which is the tell — the accounts were commissioned. What all agree on: the imperial crown was found the next morning unbroken but severed, cut clean through as if by a wire, and no smith, mage, or saint has ever marked the metal. The empire did not fall, the oldest priests say. It was sealed. Courts punish the phrase as sedition. Yet the Successor States' founding charters all contain one identical clause, in ink older than the kingdoms themselves, obligating each crown to maintain 'the Vigil of the Deep Galleries' — and none of the five will say what the Vigil maintains. Knightly orders still swear oaths on those charter pages. Nobody at any court will say who the first oath was sworn to.

7. #7The Severed Successor Statesselective

   Five human kingdoms spread across the north like a hand of quarrelsome cards. Roads run straight as a lance for forty miles — imperial-built, maintained by habit. Two hundred years of border war, truce, wedding, and war again. Chivalry is a living cult here: knightly orders, tourneys, heraldry, and founding charters no one reads to the last clause. Taxes are heavy, inns are good, and prejudice is casual — a dwarf's coin doubles the toll at some borders, an orc's word is suspect in any court. The five crowns: Karvenna (cavalry and grain), Ostmark (cold, fortified, oldest charter), Solenne (winelands, debt-ridden, beautiful), the Marchlands (raided, hard, mercenary-friendly), and Vhesk (river-throne, banking, spies). Succession crises simmer in at least two at any time. Wars start, stall, and end without asking anyone's permission — though the ripples reach everywhere: prices, refugees, burned villages, steady work for those who don't ask where the road leads.

8. #8Church of the Severed Sunselective

   Keys: Severed Sun, priest, faith, Archivist, inquisitor, cathedral, sun, heresy, church, archive, book, temple

   The dominant faith of Drakmor, and genuinely good in plague years: hospitals, orphanages, grain relief. Its cathedrals are the finest on the continent, lit by Resonant crystals donated by kings. Doctrine holds that the sun itself was severed in antiquity — wounded saving the world — and will heal when the last of the old dark is swept out. Sweeping has historically included the Registered Undying, burned where registration lapses, and a long watching eye kept on tieflings. The Church's deepest archive, beneath the great cathedral of Solenne, holds one book that is warm to the touch. Only the Archivist reads it. Archivists serve twenty-year terms; none has ever finished the term. The last three retired early to silent monasteries, still writing letters no one answers, all in the same hand. Parish priests know nothing of this. Inquisitors know some of it. The sun still rises, and the bells ring slightly wrong on fog nights, and the Church has stopped commissioning studies of why.

9. #9Ashval — The Elven Kingdomselective

   The largest forest in Drakmor and the tightest border. Ashval's rangers bow politely to travelers and watch them the entire time they stand in canopy shade. The elves trade medicine, hardwood, and silence, and charge fairly. Their grief is two hundred years old, never once named aloud — the only thing in Ashval not for sale. Foreign scholars note that Ashval's mourning date and the empire's fall share a season. Elves change the subject with perfect grace. Something is changing: Ashval's rangers have begun appearing at the borders of other realms — watching thin places, standing at closed mine-heads, saying nothing to anyone, then gone. The Court of Thorns has recalled all ambassadors twice in ten years and sent them back out again both times without explanation. Elves tap nothing, wear no wards, and will not enter the deep galleries of any hold — a fact dwarves find hilarious and have never once joked about in an elf's hearing.

10. #10The Delvemarks — Dwarven Holdsselective

    Dwarven mountain holds: wealth, engineering that makes gnomes weep, guest-hall beer worth the climb, and hospitality that is famous because it is real. Also door-wards inked on skin instead of stone — every dwarf taps the neck-tattoo twice before passing any underground door, a habit their children do before they can walk. Ask why and they will buy you another beer instead of answering. Every hold has closed galleries. Every hold explains them identically: 'unstable seam, gas, flood' — same words, same order, same rehearsed calm, holds a thousand miles apart. The deep mines get abandoned on a schedule nobody publishes, and new holds are always dug beside the bones of old ones rather than below them. The Delvemarks sell the finest crystal-cutting in the world and refuse, uniformly, to cut Singing-grade stone. Cutters who tried in earlier generations are named in the holds' silence, not their records.

11. #11Steppe of Hornsselective

    Orc clans, beast-herds, and sky without end. Guest-law is absolute: harm no one under your fire, and no one under theirs — the one law every clan enforces against every other, older than any chief's line. Honor-duels settle what courts settle elsewhere. Outsiders find orcs blunt, honorable, and terrifying in exact proportion to how little they deserve it. Their shamans keep the continent's oldest continuous oral record, and it says nothing about the Steppe being empty when the orcs arrived. Out on the grass stand burial mounds older than the orc word for 'burial,' older than the orcs' own arrival-story. Every clan tends them without being asked, on a rotation nobody remembers agreeing to. No clan builds new mounds in the old styles. No clan will say what is wrong with the old styles. Once a generation, a shaman walks the mound-line end to end, counting. The count is always one more than last time. The clans have stopped comparing notes.

12. #12The Glimmerwood — Fae Bargain-Countryselective

    The forest at the map's edge where cartographers traditionally stop drawing and start praying. It glows softly at dusk and is bound entirely by bargain-law: never accept a gift without knowing the price, never say 'thank you,' never break word even in joke. Its markets trade in years, names, first memories, and the color of a childhood summer — small change to the Courts, unrepeatable to everyone else. Two Courts reign, the Glimmer Court and the Court of Thorns, beautiful, ancient, and contractually lethal, currently at a peace that everyone inside it describes as 'load-bearing.' Lately the Courts have taken an unusual, priced interest in miners, delvers, and anyone who comes back from the deep places talking in their sleep. The fae know what the thin places are. They have known longer than the churches. They are not telling — but for the right bargain, they will tell you what it costs to be the one who finds out, and the price has never once been money.

13. #13Sinking Marches and Gravemarchselective

    The drowned south. A dead forest stands in black water off the coast, tops of old oaks like a congregation of the drowned. At high tide, bells ring underneath it; no diver has ever found a bell still hanging. Sunken villages keep their street-plans; merfolk salvage them, trade in song and warnings — the warnings are specific, priced, and worth every shell. Beasts and beastkin refuse the drowned forest on moonless nights, flatly, and mean it. Gravemarch squats on the cliff above: six tiers of chain-lift and rope-bridge, smelling of tar, rain, frying onions, and the copper hum of the crystal-market. Smuggler city, free city, guild city. Its founder's statue faces out to sea — the wrong way — watching a horizon for something that has not come yet. The city has voted three times to turn the statue around. Three times the contract crews have quit before finishing. The listing is now under 'tradition.'

14. #14Ash Reaches — Dragonkin Volcano Countryselective

    The smoking south-east: volcano country, black glass plains, and the dwindling, proud dragonkin. Their blood holds crystal affinity — which alchemists pay for in ways no dragonkin appreciates, and which the Ash Reaches' law answers with fire of its own. Trespassers who come for the crystal veins mostly stay; the dragonkin count this as the mountain's courtesy. The veins here grow in shapes veins do not grow: spirals, lattices, and once, famously, a hand. The dragonkin keep the Deep Ember Halls, sacred galleries where their dead are laid beside raw crystal so the two can finish growing together. Their oldest songs describe the volcanoes not as mountains but as knuckles — the closed fist of something that chose, ages ago, to hold rather than strike. Dragonkin do not elaborate. When a dragonkin leaves the Reaches to adventure, the clan holds a funeral. Most return. The clan holds a second feast, and never explains either ceremony to outsiders.

15. #15The Free Citiesselective

    Built on the seams between realms, because seams are where trade happens and smuggling is just trade with the paperwork removed. Every species drinks here, schemes here, settles debts here — and in two of them, registers the Undying as legal citizens. Crystal exchanges hum at night like the walls themselves are charged, which technically they are. Guild halls stand here. So do the auction houses, the bounty brokers, and the information markets where a rumor costs more than dinner and is worth it. The great ones: Copperside (trade and tiefling quarter), Bellhaven (banks, banking wars), Lastgate (gateway to the Wilderland, walled for reasons the wall no longer remembers), and Saltcrow (ports, slave-trade prosecuted loudly and evaded quietly). Prejudice in the Free Cities is commercial rather than righteous: everyone's coin is legal, some coin is simply charged more. The city watches are paid by the merchant councils, which means the law is whatever the ledger says this week.

16. #16The Wilderlandselective

    Keys: green road, Wilderland, caravan, clan, talking beast, beast, road, siege, grass, battlefield

    Everything between the realms: green roads no army holds, beastkin clans, talking beasts, old battlefields where the grass comes in greener than agronomy can explain. Talking beasts — true beasts with soul-speech — predate the beastkin and are cagey about by how much; some are allies, some are leftovers of older gods, some are both. Caravans route the long way around one three-day stretch of road where birds stop mid-phrase, without discussion, without explanation. The Wilderland remembers its wars: abandoned siege-works, sword-shaped corrosion in stone, mounds in styles no living people claim. The beastkin clans trade freely, work the guilds, and remain second-class citizens everywhere they aren't majorities — first to smell when a place is wrong, last to be believed. Travelers who keep their word, share fire, and don't ask a talking beast its age do well out here. Everyone else provides the battlefields with material.

17. #17The Many-Blooded — Peoples of Drakmorselective

    Humans (numerous, dominant, resented for it); elves of Ashval; dwarves of the holds; orcs of the Steppe; goblins, industrious and maligned, and hobgoblins, builders of the best crystal-cannons alive; beastkin of every strain — fox, wolf, cat, bear, hare, boar, stranger — second-class in most human cities and first to smell wrongness; talking beasts, older and rarer; dragonkin; halfling river-folk, cheerful casual poisoners who find every stereotype hilarious; gnomish artificers, distrusted because their workshops hum at night; tieflings, watched by temples and overrepresented among Gold-rank adventurers; fae-touched, half-bargained and half-remembered; merfolk on the coasts; giants in the far heights — when giants descend, kingdoms re-shelve their treaties. Prejudice is local, specific, and spoken by otherwise decent people: a surcharge, a spilled drink, a landlord's sign. It is never universal and never scheduled to improve. It is texture, friction, and story, never narration's editorial.

18. #18The Registered Undying and the Chimericselective

    The Undying: a small, legal, registered population of self-aware undead — citizens in two Free Cities, kindling everywhere else. The Church burns them where registration lapses. On guild rolls they are quietly the best deep-divers alive: the thin places do not dream into a mind that isn't asleep, and the Undying do not sleep. They remember being dead. None will describe it. All of them, independently, describe it as 'crowded.' The Chimeric: rarest, hunted, no two alike — mixed, made, or experiment-born, and the crystal-market pays obscene sums for their harvest. Which is why they hide. A Chimeric walking openly is either very powerful, very well disguised, or bait. Guild law forbids the trade. Guild law and the auction houses disagree, and the auctions are better attended. Both peoples live at the world's edge for the same reason: what they are is worth more than what they know, and everyone has done the arithmetic.

19. #19War and Politics of Drakmorselective

    War in Drakmor is constant, regional, and low-simmering: succession crises, border raids, trade embargoes, church schism, the slave-trade the Free Cities prosecute and the ports evade. Wars start, stall, and end on their own schedules, watched or unwatched. Mercenary companies winter in the Marchlands and sell to whoever's charter is cleanest. The Deep Consortium — crystal-trade magnates — funds dungeon-expeditions, buys the yield of every realm, and knows exactly which mines stopped answering letters; it files that knowledge under 'logistics.' Ripples reach everyone: grain prices after a raid, refugees on the green roads, hazard pay doubling in a war-zone, a guild board gone thin because every Bronze in the region took a contract south. Politics is conducted by marriage, murder, tariff, and rumor, usually in that order of politeness. The player may enlist, spy, smuggle, mediate, profit, or ignore all of it — and the ripples arrive either way.

20. #20The Dreaming Below — The Load-Bearing Secretselective

    At a depth where the word 'depth' starts failing, something may be dreaming upward. This is never stated in narration, never confirmed by any NPC, and never explained. It is only ever implied by the shape of the wrong places, as if they were pressure points of one large body. The signs are always absences: a sound that stops, a smell that should be there and isn't, an eye that slides off a detail before the mind records it. The churches pray in the general direction of up. Nobody prays down. There is probably no reason for that. Probably. Some of Drakmor's buried things are merely shameful — a massacre, a forged charter, an inconvenient heir. A few are load-bearing: kept buried so the floor above stays floor-shaped. Which realm carries which is for the walking to find out, or never. The dark is not a plot. It is a fact of geography, and it does not migrate toward anyone.

21. #21Signs of the Thin Placesselective

    Wrongness in Drakmor is delivered by specific, quiet detail — never announcement, never confirmation. Recurring signs to deploy sparingly and never explain: birdsong that stops mid-phrase; a village where nobody is over forty; hoofprints that end in open ground; dogs that will fetch anything except from past a certain fence-post; wells that taste faintly of copper; beasts and beastkin refusing a threshold flat, ears flat, meaning it; a building that settles when nothing is settling; bells heard where no diver has ever found a bell. Locals treat these the way you step over something on a staircase in the dark — route around, change the subject, buy another round instead of answering. If a character notices a sign, the world neither confirms nor apologizes. The detail simply exists, and then the scene moves on, and the detail is never mentioned again unless someone goes back.

22. #22The Hollow Choirselective

    A cult. Officially a rumor. In mining towns, recruiters buy rounds, listen more than they talk, and never mention the Choir by name — they only ask, gently, whether you have been sleeping. Their doctrine, as pieced from deserters: the world's floor is a lid, the lid is a throat, and what was swallowed is singing back up through the crystals. Every Singing-grade crystal, they claim, is a verse. The Choir recruits the sleepless, the bereaved, and miners who have heard their own names underground. Initiated members hum in perfect unison without rehearsal. Mines closed for sixty years have, according to no testimony that would stand up anywhere, somebody still singing in them. The Guild pays bounties for Choir leaders and files the bounties under vermin. The Church calls them heretics. Both are quieter about it than they are about anything else, and neither will say why.
