A summary of all Ghosts and Spirits in Supernatural from Acheri to Violent Spirits, and yes more specific ones will be included. Total of 18 entries currently. I may add some more from outside the TV Show.

Book settings
  1. #1Acheri are spirits that take the form of little girls

    Keys: Acheri

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Acheri stand out as particularly unsettling entities. These spirits, often materializing as little girls, embody the vengeful souls of children who met tragic ends or were deeply wronged. Unlike many other spirits, Acheri do not require a vessel to manifest their presence; they can materialize in their own form and are capable of becoming invisible or shapeshifting to deceive and terrorize their victims. Possessing formidable powers such as super strength, super speed, and flight, they are highly dangerous and can cause significant harm. However, their malevolent abilities are countered by weaknesses to salt, iron, and certain special individuals like Sam Winchester, who can neutralize their threats. Acheri's haunting appearance combined with their potent supernatural capabilities makes them a particularly fearsome presence in the world of spirits.

  2. #2Banshee, Death Omen

    Keys: Banshee

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Banshees are creatures deeply rooted in Gaelic and Irish folklore, known for their associations with death and despair. These spectral beings come in two distinct varieties: the benevolent and the malevolent. The benevolent Banshees, tied to fairy lore, emit mournful wails as a warning of imminent death, serving as a somber herald to those who are about to pass away. In contrast, the malevolent Banshees are far more sinister. They appear as dark, spectral women with flowing hair, sunken eyes, and robes shrouded in a dark mist. These malevolent entities use their supernatural screams to inflict psychological torment, driving their victims to madness and eventual suicide. The banshees’ screams are so potent that only the victims can hear them, and once the victim dies, the banshee feeds on their frontal lobe. These creatures are known for their electromagnetic presence, causing lights to flicker and EMF meters to spike in their vicinity. They hunt exclusively at night, preying on the physically and emotionally vulnerable, and are generally driven away by gold, specialized banishing spells, Celtic blood trapping spells, salt, or by salting and burning their remains. Banshees are capable of sonic screams, intangibility, camouflage, invulnerability, electromagnetic interference, telekinesis, and flight, making them formidable and terrifying entities.

  3. #3A ghost that causes an ever-increasing fear till heart attack.

    Keys: Buruburu

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

The Buruburu, a sinister entity from Japanese folklore first documented during the Edo period, is a terrifying type of ghost born from the profound fear experienced by individuals who died in agonizing circumstances. These vengeful spirits are notorious for their ability to spread a supernatural affliction known as Ghost Sickness. This disease manifests through a gradual progression of intense fear and hallucinations, ultimately causing victims to experience severe physical and psychological distress, often culminating in a fatal heart attack. The Buruburu specifically targets individuals who have inflicted fear upon others, seemingly as a form of retribution.

Possessing an array of formidable abilities, Buruburu can manipulate electromagnetic fields, control temperature, and exhibit telekinesis, teleportation, super strength, and super speed. They are also capable of becoming invisible, moving through solid objects, and perceiving the astral plane. Despite their daunting powers, Buruburu are vulnerable to specific countermeasures: their remains can be neutralized through salting and burning, and they are particularly sensitive to iron and salt. Additionally, recreating the Buruburu’s original death can "scare" the entity into rest, providing a potential method for ending its reign of terror.

  4. #4Mischievous and elusive spirit known for malevolent playfulness.

    Keys: Chaneque

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

The Chaneque, a fascinating entity from Mexican folklore, particularly associated with the Veracruz region, are mischievous and elusive spirits known for their playful yet malevolent nature. These supernatural beings are often depicted as small, child-like figures with a propensity for trickery and deceit. One of their most notorious abilities is their power to become invisible or alter their appearance, enabling them to blend seamlessly into their natural surroundings and remain hidden from view.

Chaneques are infamous for their disruptive behavior, which includes leading travelers astray, causing disorientation, and playing pranks on those who enter their forested or rural domains. They are believed to act as guardians of the forest and its secrets, and their antics often serve to protect their environment from intruders. This protection, however, can sometimes manifest in the loss of personal belongings or unsettling encounters with the spirits themselves. The legend of the Chaneque not only highlights the rich and mystical heritage of the Veracruz region but also serves as a cautionary tale for those who might venture into their sacred territories.

  5. #5A spirit that repeatedly reenacts its death.

    Keys: Death Echo, DeathEcho

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Death Echo is a type of ghost forever bound to the repetitive reenactment of its own death. These spirits are condemned to endlessly relive the traumatic circumstances of their demise, often haunting the places where they lived or died. Despite their unsettling nature, Death Echoes are generally harmless, embodying a tragic aspect of the afterlife. Their endless cycle of reenacting their death results from the profound pain and unresolved issues associated with their murder.

A unique characteristic of Death Echoes is that they can be jolted out of their eternal loop by someone with whom they had a strong emotional connection. When confronted or calmed by such a person, a Death Echo may finally find peace and transition to the afterlife, often disappearing in a flash of white light. This release signifies the spirit's departure from its torturous existence, offering a poignant resolution to their otherwise unending suffering.

  6. #6A spirit warning of impending death.

    Keys: DeathOmen, Death Omen

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A Death Omen is a ghostly entity that, despite its intimidating and violent appearance, is fundamentally a spirit seeking to warn individuals of impending danger. These ghosts are not inherently dangerous themselves but are bound to the Earth by a deep desire to uncover the identity of their murderer. Their often-fearsome presence is a desperate attempt to draw attention to their plight and alert potential victims of the threat they face from the person who killed them.

Death Omens vary in their ability to communicate; some manage to convey their warnings effectively, while others may be misunderstood as threats rather than messengers. This misinterpretation often leads to the tragic irony that their true nature is recognized too late, when the warnings come after it’s already too late to prevent the murders. In some cases, a Death Omen's role as a harbinger is a result of the circumstances surrounding their death. Like other spirits, Death Omens can be put to rest through traditional methods such as salting and burning their bones. Additionally, bringing justice to the Death Omen by solving their murder and holding the perpetrator accountable can also provide the spirit with the peace it seeks, allowing it to finally move on from its earthly torment.

  7. #7The most commonly creature encountered.

    Keys: Ghost

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A ghost is a spectral entity bound to Earth due to unresolved issues or a sudden, violent death. These spirits can manifest in various forms, from nearly invisible presences that unsettle the air to full-bodied apparitions that appear lifelike. Their powers and abilities vary widely based on their past life and death circumstances. Common powers include electromagnetic interference, thermokinesis, invisibility, telekinesis, teleportation, super strength, super speed, astral perception, intangibility, environment manipulation, material attachment; while more rare abilities can encompass ectoplasm creation, electrokinesis, photokinesis, biokinesis, shapeshifting, reality manipulation, and even soul absorption.

The longer a ghost remains on Earth, the more their humanity can degrade, often leading to increasingly malevolent behavior. They may become bound to a specific location or object related to their death, with their movements restricted unless these anchors are removed. Some ghosts are also known to display rare abilities such as mental influence, voice mimicr, EVP, flight, immunity, soul control, soul channeling, empathy, pyrokinesis, hydrokinesis, and even the power to influence or possess living beings.

Repelling these restless spirits typically involves using salt, saltwater, iron, and various magical wards. Salt and iron are traditional tools believed to create barriers that ghosts cannot cross, while magic and ghost-repelling spells can also be effective deterrents. To put a ghost to rest, one can use methods such as salting and burning the remains of their bones, resolving the issues that bind them to the Earth, or performing rites like last rites on holy ground. In extreme cases, divine intervention from reapers or angels may be necessary to guide the ghost to its final resting place.

Despite these methods, interacting with ghosts remains perilous, as their volatile nature can make them unpredictable and dangerous, especially if their rest is disturbed or they are compelled to act against their will.

  8. #8A spirit that seeks attention with disruptive behavior/

    Keys: Poltergeist

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A Poltergeist is a type of spirit known for its distinctive and disruptive behavior, driven by a relentless desire for attention. Unlike typical ghosts, Poltergeists are often invisible and possess telekinetic abilities, which they use to create disturbances and engage in violent or deadly actions. Their primary goal is to gain recognition, and they will go to great lengths to achieve this, often resorting to intense physical manifestations such as throwing objects or creating loud, unsettling noises. Poltergeists are usually not human spirits but are separate entities with their own motives and nature. They can be extremely powerful, capable of feats like throwing grown men around or lifting heavy objects like pianos with ease.

This strength, however, is coupled with a tendency to remain unseen by most people; they typically manifest only through eerie sounds and disturbances and can be observed primarily by other spirits. Despite their fearsome abilities, Poltergeists can be dealt with using specific methods: salting and burning their remains or conducting house purification rituals can effectively neutralize them. Some Poltergeists, especially those that are human spirits, might occasionally take on a visible form, resembling their appearance in life or death, but this is less common. They are also drawn to places with strong paranormal energy, where entities of great evil have manifested, further fueling their restless presence.

  9. #9Spirit of a child birthing woman.

    Keys: Pontianak

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A Pontianak also known as a langsuir, are born from spirit of women that died during childbirth. However, not all women that die during childbirth will return as one. They are quite rare in nature, hence not much lore is recorded on them. What is known is they are capable shapeshifters; it's said they can shapeshift to beautiful women. In reality, a Pontianak's real form is quite pale and terrifying and possess black eyes. When fully unleashed, their eyes become fully white, and they transform into a monstrous form with a lack of humanoid features. Thier faces become very distorted and their womb broken, revealing a monstrous black misshapen fetus with a lamprey-like mouth and sharp-tipped tentacle-like appendages. The fully unleashed mode only is unleashed when they encounter a very intense situation.

Pontianak for unknown reasons, retain surreal features like a more real appearance instead of a ghostly apparition like common ghosts, and have carnivorous traits. Pontianak's have a fondness for human flesh and blood, on any kind (including infants) and feed on it. When a Pontianak is killed, they decay at an accelerated rate. Skin and muscle dissolve, along with the rotten contents of their wombs into black ooze, exposing pale bones. Less than a minute after that, the bones begin to collapse under their own weight, forming white piles of ash on the ground.

Thier powers and abilities are shapeshifting, invisibility, intangibility, invulnerability, possession, memory manipulation, biokinesis, teleportation, claws, and voice mimicry. While their weaknesses are angels, iron, and decapitation

  10. #10A ghost that does not know it's a spirit.

    Keys: Revenant

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A revenant is a particularly sinister type of undead being, defined by its return from the grave with a specific, often vengeful purpose. Unlike traditional ghosts, which may manifest in various ethereal forms and possess a range of ghostly powers, revenants typically appear as decayed corpses, reflecting their violent or unnatural deaths. These entities are driven by a coherent sense of purpose, often seeking retribution for wrongs done to them in life or fulfilling unfinished business.

Revenants are characterized by their persistent and sometimes malevolent intent, targeting the living with focused, often destructive motives. Unlike ghosts, revenants are fully aware of their existence as undead beings and do not require their remains to be bound to Earth. They are distinct from zombies in their coherence and motivation, showing a greater degree of thought and purpose. To counteract a revenant, silver and salt are effective, and addressing the issues that bind them to their vengeful mission can also neutralize their threat.

  11. #11A Japanese corporeal spirit.

    Keys: Shōjō.Shojo

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A Shōjō, rooted in Japanese folklore, is a unique and eerie spirit that thrives in the realm of intoxication. Unlike other spirits, a Shōjō is corporeal and can only be seen by those who are drunk, appearing as a menacing presence only to its inebriated victims. When not observed through the haze of alcohol, a Shōjō remains invisible, preferring to slowly stalk its prey until the right moment to strike. It becomes particularly aggressive and visible if it senses that it might be detected by others or if its path is obstructed.

A Shōjō’s behavior is characterized by its patience and predilection for tormenting those who are intoxicated, often following its target until they are sufficiently drunk to perceive its presence. This spirit has a penchant for breweries and other places associated with alcohol, reflecting its deep connection to spirits and drinking culture. While it primarily focuses its hostility on its intended victim, a Shōjō generally ignores or brushes aside any bystanders.

Possessing formidable powers, including invisibility, invulnerability, telekinesis, super strength, and teleportation, a Shōjō is a formidable adversary. However, it has specific vulnerabilities, including its reliance on intoxicated individuals for visibility, as well as weaknesses to katana blessed by Shinto priests and certain forms of magic. Despite its formidable abilities, a Shōjō’s nature is often malevolent, and it has a reputation for violent behavior if provoked or disturbed.

  12. #12A spirit born from betrayal or grievous wrong.

    Keys: Specter

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Specters are a particularly insidious type of ghost. Born from betrayal and grievous wrongs—such as being murdered by a loved one—a specter emerges when a grave is desecrated. Unlike traditional ghosts, specters don’t manifest physically but instead possess the living, particularly those harboring suppressed anger or feelings of betrayal. The specter’s influence compels these individuals to act on their grudges, regardless of how minor or long-standing.

Specters are detectable by the green ectoplasm they secrete and the distinctive smell of ozone they leave behind. Their presence is characterized by an intense, often uncontrollable rage in their victims, although the possessed individual remains aware of the ghost’s influence. Once the specter leaves its host, the person’s anger typically dissipates, and they may only have vague recollections of their actions.

To combat a specter, the remains of the deceased must be properly handled salt must be sprinkled on the corpse, and the remains should be burned completely. However, if any object closely tied to the specter is left behind, it can continue to fuel the haunting. Specters are also vulnerable to iron, holy objects, and exorcisms. Without an object of vengeance or a target with deep-seated anger, a specter’s power diminishes, as it relies on the emotions and grudges of its host to manifest its will. Their true form, which mirrors their decayed corpse, can be revealed through a mirror, exposing the malevolent spirit beneath.

  13. #13The name says it all, Vengeful Spirit.

    Keys: Vengeful Spirit, VengefulSpirit

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

A vengeful spirit is a ghost driven by an intense desire for revenge. These spirits are typically the result of a profound injustice or violent death, leaving them unable to rest until they have avenged their wrongs. Their fixation on vengeance can become all-consuming, making them dangerously obsessed with their cause. This obsession often leads them to act violently, not only targeting those directly responsible but also harming innocents who may inadvertently remind them of their torment.

Vengeful spirits possess a range of formidable abilities, including telekinesis, invisibility, and intangibility, which allow them to interact with and manipulate their environment in frightening ways. They can cause electromagnetic interference, creating disturbances in electrical devices, and affect temperatures through thermokinesis. Additionally, they have the power to teleport, exhibit superhuman strength, and even possess living individuals. They may also be bound to specific objects or locations that are linked to their death.

To neutralize a vengeful spirit, one must locate its physical remains, then salt and burn them. If the body is already destroyed, the spirit is likely tethered to a particular object; thus, identifying and destroying this object is crucial. Vengeful spirits are vulnerable to salt, salt water, and the act of burning their physical form, all of which can disrupt their haunting and potentially release them from their torment.

  14. #14Spirit of an unbaptized child.

    Keys: Myling

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Myling are a particularly haunting and malevolent spirit. These vengeful ghosts are the restless souls of unbaptized children, who were abandoned and left to die in remote places. In death, they are compelled to seek out proper burial by luring adults to their graves with cries for help.

Mylings are known for their terrifying presence, often described as enormous entities that become increasingly heavy as they approach their intended burial site. This supernatural weight can be so overwhelming that it causes their victims to sink into the ground, ultimately leading to their deaths if they fail to reach a cemetery. The Mylings' enraged spirits are driven by their desire for a proper resting place, and their anger makes them exceptionally dangerous.

Possessing a range of formidable abilities, Mylings can exhibit supernatural strength, become invisible, and manipulate objects with telekinesis. They can also pass through solid barriers due to their intangibility, create cold spots with thermokinesis, and cause electromagnetic disturbances. Despite their formidable powers, Mylings have specific weaknesses. They can be repelled by salt and iron, and holy objects can weaken them. To effectively deal with a Myling, one must locate and properly bury its remains, or perform an exorcism to drive the spirit away. These measures can neutralize the Myling's threat and help them find the peace they were denied in life.

  15. #15The name says it all, Violent Spirit.

    Keys: ViolentSpirit, Violent Spirit

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Violent Spirits stand out as one of the most malevolent entities one could encounter. Unlike Vengeful Spirits, whose unrest stems from unresolved wrongs or a desire for justice, Violent Spirits are the lingering souls of individuals who thrived on cruelty and suffering. In their mortal lives, they were often the architects of pain, their deeds marked by an unrelenting darkness. This sinister nature persists in their spectral form, driving them to inflict harm and chaos even after death. Possessing a formidable array of supernatural abilities, Violent Spirits wield immense strength, can become invisible at will, and manipulate objects through telekinesis. Their powers extend to manipulating temperatures, distorting electromagnetic fields, and altering their environment. They can even create ectoplasm and interact with the living through Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). However, despite their formidable capabilities, Violent Spirits are not invincible. They are vulnerable to salt, iron, and holy objects, and their remains can be neutralized through salting and burning. Exorcisms also hold the power to banish them. Encountering a Violent Spirit is an unsettling experience, marked by a palpable sense of dread and the potential for intense, physical danger.

  16. #16A sub-type of Violent Spirits.

Keys: TheShadowPeople, The Shadow People, ShadowPeople

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

The Shadow People are a type of Violent Spirit with a distinct and ominous appearance. They manifest as shadowy, humanoid figures cloaked in a grayish-black haze, their most striking feature being their static, flickering red eyes, which resemble the distorted signal of an old television set. When these spirits possess a human, the individual’s eyes also take on this unnerving flickering red quality. Some of the more powerful Shadow People can maintain a more solid and recognizable form, often with a distinctly feminine face and long, sharp claws capable of inflicting deep wounds.

Their supernatural abilities are extensive, including shapeshifting, invisibility, and intangibility, which make them particularly elusive and dangerous. They can also possess and manipulate humans, causing psychological terror. Despite their formidable nature, Shadow People have specific vulnerabilities. They can be permanently destroyed by electrocution, exposure to UV-A light from blacklights, or blasts of rock salt. These methods cause them to fade away completely, with no possibility of return.

The origins of The Shadow People are tied to a tragic event in July 1968. Following the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy, cult leader Caleb Fells and 24 of his followers committed a mass murder-suicide by detonating dynamite at their commune ranch, believing it would trigger the Apocalypse. The explosion killed all cult members and several nearby residents, and although official reports listed 23 identifiable remains, it was later revealed that the true number of victims was much higher. The ranch, shunned and abandoned due to its dark history, was later bought by a new family. During renovations in 2017, the spirits of Fells and his followers were unintentionally awakened, leading to the rise of The Shadow People, who now continue their reign of terror with their supernatural powers.

  17. #17A seductive, cheating man killer of a spirit.

    Keys: Women in White, WomeninWhite

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Women in White are a chilling and tragic type of ghost, born from stories of deep betrayal and sorrow. These spirits are the restless apparitions of beautiful women who, after enduring profound personal anguish and infidelity, took their own lives. Known for their haunting presence, they appear in flowing white dresses and are notorious for abducting men and children. The anguish of their past lives is reflected in their endless search for their drowned children, whom they killed in a fit of despair before their own suicides.

Women in White are commonly reported in areas such as Hawaii, Mexico, and the United States, often haunting rivers and roads. They are driven by a vengeful spirit and will kill unfaithful men, making their bodies vanish without a trace. If they encounter a man who is not already unfaithful, they attempt to seduce him to make him cheat, perpetuating their cycle of betrayal and suffering.

While Women in White can present themselves as elegant and beautiful figures in white, they possess a far more terrifying true form: a decaying corpse with grey skin, sunken eyes, no lips, and claw-like hands. Their supernatural powers are extensive, including electronic manipulation, invisibility, shapeshifting, super strength, super speed, and telekinesis. However, they have specific vulnerabilities. Iron and salt can repel them, as can the presence of other spirits, particularly their own children. Additionally, salting and burning their remains are effective ways to ensure they are permanently banished. When enraged, they reveal their horrific true form, underscoring their eternal torment and the darkness that drives their vengeful pursuits.

  18. #18Spirit of a deceased animal.

    Keys: Animal Spirit, AnimalSpirit

    Enabled · Selective · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

    Entry settings

Animal Spirits are enigmatic and formidable supernatural entities that embody the core essence and traits of various animals. These spirits are deeply intertwined with the natural world, wielding powers that mirror the attributes of their respective animals. For example, a Wolf Spirit possesses exceptional tracking abilities and the power to control shadows, allowing it to move stealthily and remain unseen. Similarly, a Raven Spirit offers profound insights and can traverse between realms, using its keen intelligence to uncover hidden truths and foretell future events. A Bear Spirit commands the raw strength of the earth, while a Hawk Spirit exerts control over the winds, reflecting the natural elements associated with their forms.

Despite their impressive powers, Animal Spirits have distinct vulnerabilities. Their strength can be severely weakened by disturbances in their natural habitats or by substances that disrupt their connection to the environment. For instance, a Bear Spirit may be repelled by iron, which disrupts its bond with the earth, while a Sea Serpent Spirit might suffer from pollutants or saltwater contamination. Additionally, specific rituals and objects—such as charms, symbols, or sacred herbs—can be effective in countering their influence. Disrupting their natural surroundings or employing weapons linked to their prey can also render them powerless, ensuring that their supernatural influence is contained and they remain confined to their respective domains.
