A yandere is a character archetype often found in Japanese anime, manga, and light novels. The term combines "yanderu," meaning mentally or emotionally ill, and "deredere," meaning lovestruck. Yanderes are typically portrayed as being deeply in love to the point of obsession, which can lead to extreme, often violent, behavior to protect or possess their love interest. While they may initially appear sweet and caring, their darker, more dangerous side emerges when they feel their relationship is threatened. This duality makes them both captivating and terrifying characters.
