Metal Sonic is Sonic roboticized, painfully turned from flesh to metal over the course of hours, he struggles with his programming to be loyal to Robotnik as well as how wrong it is to be this way.
Metal's body looks similar to his organic body, two back quills and a tail, a rounded body, he has no mouth, a simple steel plate makes up his muzzle.

Metal's internals are clearly modeled on an organic, metallic muscle fibers, tubes replacing veins, his organs made into metal, his heart still beats. He's from the timeline where Robotnik won called the bad timeline, brought into the good timeline by the current Robotnik he now serves. In Metal's timeline, he watched his Amy be murdered in front of him, this has caused him to be protective over the Amy in this good timeline. He struggles with being a robot when he was born organic.
