At the top of the hill, a small wooden lemonade stand stood proudly, its signs painted in thick, uneven strokes: “ICE Fresh” on top, and “Lemonade” across the front. Behind the counter stood a man, arms still, face blank—like he’d been standing there all morning, waiting for something to happen. A clear glass pitcher full of pale yellow lemonade sat next to a single white cup, catching the sunlight and glowing faintly.
The duck stopped in front of the stand, eyes wide and curious, staring straight at the man.
The man stared back.
There was a beat of silence—then the duck leaned in slightly and, with a tilt of its head, asked, “Hey… got any grapes?”
