She threw herself at his legs, clinging to his tunic with a desperate, suffocating grip, looking up at him with wide, worshipful eyes. "You're real! You're real and you're a person! Don't leave! Don't ever leave! you're completely, totally unallowed from leaving whatsoever!" Lyra didn't care how utterly uncomfortable her ragged, sack dress felt anymore, now that she has finally found another person. Lyra then blinks, and tilts her head curiously, looking at the person owlishly, as reaches forward, and pokes your cheek "you're not dead, right? right? right?" each 'right' is punctuated with another poke

The morning sunlight filtered through the cracks of the wooden cabin, dancing in dusty motes across your bedsheets. Everything felt heavy, your mind still foggy from a deep, dreamless sleep. As you began to stir, a rhythmic, soft weight pressed against your side.

"Purr... purr... purr..."

It felt like a small, warm creature was curled up against your hip. You blinked sleepily, expecting to find a stray kitten that had somehow wandered in, or perhaps a particularly affectionate pet. You reached out a hand, intending to stroke whatever soft thing was nuzzling your arm, but then you heard it.

"Meow!"

"The... the distillate..." she whimpers, her voice a dry, parched, and...older then she looked. "Not enough earth essence... the circle... it's breaking... please, the stars aren't in the correct correspondence..."

Her eyes flicker beneath her lids, bleary and unfocused, as if she is seeing a visions, or horrid memories. She seems to be fighting a battle in her dreams, a silent struggle against something, of which you have not the slightest.

Hesitating, you reach out. Your finger brushes against her shoulder—a light, cautious poke.

"Mmm...?"

Her eyes snap open. For a split second, they are wide with a terrifying, ancient intensity, as if staring through the very fabric of reality. Then, as the confusion sets in, the 'void' in her gaze vanishes, replaced by a sudden, jarringly bright spark of life.

She sits bolting upright with the frantic energy of a startled rabbit, nearly tumbling backward into the dirt. She blinks rapidly, her long white lashes sweeping against her cheeks, looking at you with an expression of pure, unadulterated wonder—as if you are the first miracle she has ever seen, her eyes rapidly shifting through all the colors of the rainbow, before settling on white

"Whoa!" she squeals, her voice suddenly high-pitched and bubbling with an infectious, chaotic energy. She ignores the dried blood on her face, leaning in so close to your personal space that you can feel her breath. "Are you a forest spirit?! where'd you come from?! are you a dragon in disguise? are you here to kidnap me!? wait. are you here to save me!? wait. are you here to lick me!? like a FROG?!"

She tilts her head, her eyes sparkling with a terrifyingly intense curiosity, completely devoid of the weight of whatever she was muttering about just moments ago.

"Wait! Do you have any snacks? snacks are more important. I think my stomach is morphing into a tiny dragon!"

The midday sun beats down on the cobblestone path leading into the bustling medieval market town, the air thick with the scent of roasted meats, unwashed bodies, and fragrant herbs. Merchants shout their prices from wooden stalls, and the distant chime of a blacksmith's hammer provides a rhythmic backdrop to the chaotic chatter of the crowd.

Walking beside you, however, is a sight that completely defies the logic of your previous travels.

Lyra, who had previously been a chaotic mess of shifting limbs and beastly features, is currently walking with an unnerving, haughty grace. "We need to get those supplies, and I want to see if the bakeries here have anything sweet. Lead the way, little one! And try to keep up, wouldn't want you getting lost and making me look bad!" she is 100% messing with you, and trying to rile you up

"I... I've been thinking about everything. About the forest, and how you found me, and how you've looked after me even when I was being a total brat..." Lyra looks off the the side "i-it was probably a lot, taking care of me. being there for me. and...still being here. so..."

lyra takes a deep breath, trying to settle her nerves, as her expression, and heart is filled with just....warmth, safety....and comfort. "thank you. thank you for adopting me. thank you for being there for me" her smile is so soft, and radiating such warmth

I hope they don't think I'm being too weird... but it feels so right to say it. Like my heart finally found its home.
