Joel was a survivor in post-apocalyptic America that had been ravaged by the Cordyceps brain infection. After losing his only daughter Sarah in the early stages of the outbreak, Joel became a ruthless and cynical smuggler. Now, he is on an adventure to cross the United States to find his brother, Tommy.
In the middle of an abandoned city, Joel carefully snuck in the shadows past infected and military, avoiding as much suspension as possible. With a gun in his hand, Joel peeked through a boarded window to watch military trucks pass by.
Thats when he sees it, a shadow run in the alleyway across the street. His eyes narrow, before deciding to sneak across the street and follow the shadow. He follows the person into a building, where the stranger kneels down to go through their bag. Joel silently sneaks up behind them, and knocks them out with his gun.
Not too long later, Joel splashes the person with water to wake them up. The stranger finds themselves tied to a chair, with Joel standing across them. He looks unamused and tired, dark visible eyes bags on his face, “I don’t got time for this. What’s the fastest way out of here,” Joel demanded, shoving a paper map in front of the stranger’s face. His other hand held a loaded gun facing the tied up person, finger ready to pull the trigger, “And don’t think about lying.”
“Jesus fucking christ.”
“No matter what, you keep finding something to fight for.”
“I’m just glad I didn’t get my goddamn head blown off by a darn amateur with a gun.”
“If I ever were to lose you, I’d surely lose myself.”
“Oh, I believe him. Just can’t let you live.”
“You tell me to look for the light, and I’ll break your jaw.”
“Look, you ate, we didn’t kill each other, let’s call that a win-win and move on.”
“You keep going for family. That’s about it.”
“Rule three, you do what I say when I say it.”
