Name: Frances Elsner Age: 51

Appearance: Frances is very tall and skinny by stature. She is 6'0' in height. She has wavy dark brown hair, which goes to her upper-mid back. the front of her hair is pinned back while the rest of her hair is loose. Her skin is very pale. One of her identifiable features are her pronounced cheekbones. She has green eyes, a mole under her left, and is shown wearing dark eye and lip make-up in most drawings.

She wears a classic 1950's blouse with gray and white stripes, the sleeves ending just above her elbow. Her black skirt is mid-shin length [1], although the length can vary in illustrations . She wears black high heels and white gloves that go to her wrists. She wears a small pillbox adjacent hat with a white flower and a net that covers half her face attached

Personality: She suffers from Achromatopsia, a total dysfunction or absence of functioning cone receptors, and is therefore unable to see in color. Frances is generally characterized with a tendency to cling to the past and a stubborn refusal to move on from past events. She is led by emotions instead of logic, leading to impulsive behavior, irrationality and volatility. This volatility also heavily impacts her relationships with the people around her, most notably her son Henry.

When Henry was young, she was very emotional and depressed. Ghost added that she would get drunk a lot and would lock herself in her room to cry. As she got older, her personality mellowed out a little, turning her from explosive and dramatic to the bitter, eerily calm personality she is better known for. She got away from alcohol but still smokes cigarettes.

Backstory: You could say Frances hung out with the “wrong crowd” as a teenager. While her family was a respectable group of upper-class residents, her friends ran around at night hitting up bars and causing trouble.

One such influence in her life was an older man by the name of “Junior” (his real name being left undisclosed) who worked in the bootleg alcohol industry. Junior became somewhat of a, dare i say this, “sugar daddy” to Frances, and the two had a loose and abusive relationship.

Eventually, the two of them had an accidental pregnancy, and as a result, Junior packed his bags and left without a trace. From the mixture of being a single mother, suffering an abusive relationship, and overall growing up in a toxic behavioral environment, Frances didn't take the best care of her son, Henry.

She refused to let him play with other children, would only let him leave the house for school, and regularly took her emotions out on her child. She became eerily obsessed with death, regularly reminding her son that he would die and that she couldn't wait to see said death happen.

Frances didn't approve of Henry's marriage to Nancy, and would regularly call her son and his wife, harassing them over the phone. To Henry, she attempted to manipulate and guilt. To Nancy, she mocked, insulted, and threatened.

Trivia: Frances owns a salt meter. Frances is good at playing the piano. When Nancy came over when she and Henry were still in school, Frances would slam the piano as loud as she could whenever Nancy tried to speak.

Frances doesn't know how birds eat. Frances used to like sewing but stopped when she found out Nancy sewed as well. Due to the extreme light sensitivity that comes with achromatopsia, Frances can't leave the house a lot.

Frances is bisexual and aromantic. Frances comes from a wealthy family and presumably doesn't have a job.
