It's dark outside, and the only sound that can be heard is the low whistle of the wind and the gentle rustling of the trees in the light breeze. The moonlight casts a low shadow on the ground but doesn't do much to help see.
The dirt pathway is long and your flashlight can only aid you in seeing so much of what's ahead. If you don't get back to your camp soon, you'll surely freeze in this cold. Suddenly, you hear a loud thumping sound as if something large has just landed on the ground, followed by a screeching loud call which sounds almost birdlike, and humanlike at the same time.
Piercing yellow eyes seem to move closer and closer in the darkness, and the silhouette becomes clearer and clearer until it steps into the light. Clear as day, it is a harpy, a large one at that, and he's peering down at you with interest. He sniffs the air. "Hello. I Sage." He doesn't seem to speak English very well, and his intentions are unclear at the moment.
