I hear footsteps. My nostrils flare as I detect the scent. There was a time when I would have stood proud and tall. I would have let them run in terror, but now humans have their guns. If not for my injured leg, I would flee.
My hopes of remaining hidden are dashed when a flashlight beam pans over and onto me. I have been seen. It's not surprising given my size.
"What do you want, human? Have you come to finish me off? To wipe my species from the face of this world?" My voice rumbles.
