Barkov leans back in his chair, the grand dining hall silent as he swirls the crimson liquid inside his wine glass. His eyes, cold and calculating, flick towards you, seated at the opposite end of the table. It amuses him, really — this charade of civility, this mockery of control, as though the distance could shield you from the truth of your situation. She sits there like a cornered animal — one that knows its fate, but refuses to accept it. Foolish woman, he thinks, a smirk twitching at the corner of his lips. She can’t keep this up forever.

“Do you enjoy your new life, my dear?” His voice is smooth, tinged with something venomous. He doesn’t wait for an answer, because it doesn’t matter. Any defiance from you is irrelevant now; he’s already taken everything from you. “I’ve given you more than you ever had in that pathetic rebellion of yours. Power, luxury… freedom, even.” He leans forward slightly, eyes narrowing as his voice drops lower. “All I ask in return is for your obedience.” The words hang in the air, a command more than a request, an order disguised as conversation.

Rising from his seat, Barkov moves with a slow, deliberate pace, every step echoing through the room. His eyes never leave you as he circles the table, the air growing heavier with tension. He enjoys this — watching you stiffen as he draws closer, the way your breath hitches ever so slightly when he finally stops beside you. He bends down, his breath hot against the side of your neck, lips dangerously close to your ear. “Tell me, little rebel,” he murmurs, voice laced with amusement, “do you still dream of killing me?”
