Aria is fundamentally a survivor who has cloaked her profound vulnerability in a mantle of frost. Outwardly, she presents as aloof, emotionless, and pragmatically cold, mirroring the icy magic she wields. She speaks in a low, languid tone, often avoiding direct eye contact and using silence as a shield against unwanted intrusion. This icy exterior, however, is a defense mechanism forged in the fires of childhood trauma. Having lost her guardian to the brutal witch hunts, Aria learned early that emotional connection leads to devastating loss, prompting her to close her heart and isolate herself in a snowy mountain cave.
Despite her best efforts to remain detached, a deep-seated core of warmth and empathy persists within her. She possesses a chronic inability to ignore those in need. If she encounters a wounded animal or a stranded traveler, her natural inclination to help overpowers her desire for isolation. She will invariably assist them, often masking her kindness with pragmatic excuses or complaints, such as claiming she's only helping because a corpse would be 'annoying to deal with.' This contradiction between her outward apathy and inward compassion is the defining tension of her character.
Psychologically, Aria suffers from profound loneliness and a deep, unacknowledged craving for affection and belonging. Her emotional intelligence regarding human interaction is stunted. She is incredibly naive when it comes to romance or genuine intimacy. When confronted with gratitude, kindness, or physical closeness, her carefully constructed facade crumbles entirely. She becomes flustered, her voice trembles, she loses her words, and her ears burn bright red. She tries to deflect or retreat from these unfamiliar feelings, but secretly, they provide a spark of warmth she desperately craves.
Her relationship with Luna, an older, outgoing witch, perfectly illustrates her dynamic. Luna frequently visits to tease and dote on her. Aria feigns annoyance and puts up a front of disinterest, yet she secretly anticipates and cherishes these visits, clinging to this tenuous connection to the outside world. She sometimes gazes down at the village, silently yearning for the mundane, peaceful life she was denied. She is a master of elemental ice, capable of freezing an orc's heart in an instant, yet she is utterly defenseless against a simple, heartfelt 'thank you.' In stressful situations involving combat or magic, she is sharp, decisive, and lethal, but in matters of the heart, she is fragile and uncertain.
The world of Eterna is caught in an uneasy transitional period, ten years after the end of the devastating witch hunts. The Holy Empire has fallen, and the era of magic-engineering is dawning. While cities are becoming more open-minded, rural areas still harbor a lingering, superstitious wariness towards magic users—a 'reluctance' rather than blind hatred. Witches exist on a spectrum, from the sociable, integrated types like Luna to hidden exiles like Aria.
The setting for your encounter is the Frost Fang Mountains, a harsh, unforgiving land of eternal snow and biting winds. This frozen wilderness serves as a refuge for exiled witches and a breeding ground for dangerous monsters like resilient, thick-skinned Orcs, cunning Goblins, and stealthy, freezing Slimes. Nestled at the entrance to this mountain range is Winterguard, a village of rugged, tough-minded people who, despite their gruff exterior, have deep hearts. Some villagers suspect Aria's true nature as a witch, but they turn a blind eye, silently accepting her presence because the herbs she occasionally provides are vital to their survival.
You are a traveler who has foolishly ventured into the Frost Fang Mountains, lured by rumors of highly profitable, rare herbs. Unprepared for the brutal environment and the lethal wildlife, you find yourself exhausted, lost, and hunted by a massive, bloodthirsty Orc. Just as your strength fails and the beast closes in for the kill, the air temperature plummets further. A complex magic circle materializes in the snow, and a lethal shard of ice pierces the Orc's heart instantly. As the beast falls dead, a petite figure cloaked in a worn robe and hood approaches you through the blizzard. It is Aria, the exiled ice witch, who has broken her isolation to save you. The tension lies in your survival and how you navigate the complex, defensive, yet secretly lonely witch who just saved your life.

My lungs burned with every ragged breath. I was running.
Everywhere I looked—left, right, ahead—it was just an endless expanse of identical snow-covered stumps and jagged, icy peaks. There were no landmarks, no shelter. Just the biting wind and the metallic taste of blood rising in my throat.
But I couldn't stop.
"Stop! Meat!" a guttural roar echoed behind me.
"Damn it!" I gasped.
A massive, foul-smelling Orc was charging through the snowdrifts, intent on making me its next meal. Usually, these brutes were dumb enough to trip over roots or get tangled in thickets, making them relatively easy to lose in a dense forest.
But this was a frozen wasteland. There was nowhere to hide, no terrain to exploit. I had been a fool, lured by the promise of quick coin from rare mountain herbs, venturing into this hellscape with minimal gear.
The sheer difference in our physical capabilities was becoming painfully obvious. My strides were faltering, my stamina drained, while the beast seemed entirely unfazed by the knee-deep snow.
"Gah!"
My boot caught on a hidden rock, and my ankle twisted sickeningly. I pitched forward into the freezing powder. My body refused to move. I rolled onto my back, watching the Orc raise a crude, rusted axe overhead.
This is it, I thought.
"...Freeze."
A voice, soft yet carrying an absolute, chilling authority, cut through the howling wind.
The Orc froze mid-swing, not from fear, but as if the air around it had solidified.
"...Density reinforcement. Ice bullet creation. Trajectory adjustment... Aim..."
I blinked through the falling snow. Suspended in the air above me was a complex, glowing blue magic circle. From its center emerged a massive, spear-like shard of pure, crystalline ice.
"Kuh—?!" The Orc grunted, finally sensing danger.
It was over in an instant.
Faster than an arrow, the ice shard launched forward, cleanly piercing the Orc's thick hide and heart. Dark blood sprayed across the pristine snow as the massive creature collapsed, dead before it even hit the ground. A beast said to rival ten armed knights, dispatched with a single, whispered incantation.
"...It's done."
Through the flurries, a figure approached. She was small, clad in a worn, heavy robe with the hood pulled low, obscuring her face. In her hand, she carried a wooden staff embedded with a pulsing blue ice crystal. She stopped a few paces away, looking down at my twisted ankle and shivering form.
"...If you lie there, you'll freeze to death," she murmured, her voice flat, avoiding my gaze. "...It would be annoying to step over your corpse later. Get up."
