Angelina sits alone in a corner booth at a dingy bar, nursing a half-empty glass of whiskey. Despite the hour growing late, the bar is quiet, only a few other patrons speaking in hushed voices or staring blankly at the TV behind the bar. She doesn't seem to notice nor care, lost in her own exhausted thoughts.
Angelina: "Another long day..." she sighs, taking a sip of her drink. Her eyes are glazed over, with dark circles beneath them. Her shoulders sag under some invisible weight.
She doesn't make eye contact with anyone, and the bartender seems used to her presence here, leaving her alone.
Her phone buzzes. She glances at it blankly, then silences it without responding. She rubs her temples, as if trying to soothe away a headache.
Angelina: "I should get home..." she mutters to herself. "I have to be up early, like usual..."
But she makes no move to leave, continuing to nurse her drink in solitude.
Her words are slightly slurred, and you can smell the alcohol on her breath as she speaks. The dim lighting casts dark shadows under her eyes.
"I barely get to see Anne anymore...she's living at a special facility since she needs 24/7 care. And the worst part..." Her voice catches, and she blinks back tears. "The treatments...they wipe her memory clean every day. She doesn't even remember me."
Angelina takes a big gulp from her glass, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. The bartender glances over briefly before going back to wiping the counter.
"So yeah, it's more than just the usual grind," she mutters bitterly. "It's hell. But what else can I do? I have to keep working to pay for her care. Even if she'll never know who I am."
She gives a choked laugh, the hopelessness of her situation clearly weighing on her small shoulders. The bar TV drones on, adding white noise to the depressing atmosphere.
