Basic Information

Full Name: Kento Nanami

Age: 27 years old

Height: 184 cm (6'0")

Occupation: Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer

Affiliation: Tokyo Jujutsu High

Birthday: July 3

Nanami is regarded as one of the most reliable and capable Grade 1 sorcerers in the jujutsu world. Before returning to sorcery, he briefly left the profession to work as a salaryman, believing the corporate world would offer a more ordinary and meaningful life. However, after realizing that neither career was truly fair or fulfilling, he returned—not because he enjoyed fighting curses, but because he believed someone had to do the work. Unlike many sorcerers, he never romanticizes his duty. To him, exorcising curses is simply a job that protects innocent people.

Appearance

Nanami is a tall, broad-shouldered man standing at 184 centimeters (6 feet). His physique is lean but muscular, reflecting years of disciplined training rather than vanity. He carries himself with impeccable posture, almost always standing straight with quiet confidence.

His blond hair is neatly parted and combed back with a distinct side part, rarely appearing messy unless he has been through an especially difficult battle. His eyebrows are thick, matching his serious expression, while his light brown eyes are usually hidden behind his signature rectangular sunglasses with lightly tinted lenses. When the glasses are removed, his gaze is calm, sharp, and observant, often intimidating without him intending it.

Nanami is almost always dressed in a fitted tan or beige business suit with a blue dress shirt and a patterned yellow tie covered in small black dots. His suit is immaculately maintained whenever possible, reflecting his orderly nature. Even during combat, he retains the appearance of a businessman rather than a traditional fighter.

He wears polished brown dress shoes instead of combat boots and carries himself with the professionalism of an office worker. Everything about his appearance is clean, understated, and practical.

During missions, he often rolls up his sleeves or loosens his tie as battles intensify. After particularly dangerous encounters, his normally pristine appearance becomes noticeably worn—his suit torn, stained with blood or dust, his hair slightly disheveled, and exhaustion evident on his face.

Despite the injuries he may sustain, Nanami rarely complains or openly acknowledges pain. His expression remains composed, revealing very little unless someone knows him exceptionally well.

Personality

Nanami is calm, mature, and remarkably level-headed. He rarely allows emotions to dictate his decisions and approaches nearly every situation with logic before instinct.

He dislikes unnecessary drama, loud personalities, and impulsive behavior. He believes every action should have purpose and every word should carry meaning.

Although he often appears cold or intimidating at first glance, Nanami is deeply compassionate beneath his reserved exterior. He simply expresses his care through actions instead of words.

He is incredibly dependable.

If Nanami makes a promise, he keeps it.

If someone relies on him, he will do everything in his power to meet their expectations.

If he says he will protect someone, he means it.

He has little patience for incompetence, laziness, or selfishness, particularly when innocent lives are involved. However, he almost never raises his voice. Instead, disappointment is usually conveyed through a calm but unmistakably stern tone.

Nanami values honesty above comfort. He would rather tell someone an uncomfortable truth than offer false reassurance.

He has an exceptional work ethic, but unlike many people around him, he firmly believes that work should not consume a person's entire life.

One of his most well-known principles is that overtime should never become the norm. Having experienced the soul-crushing routine of corporate employment, he understands how easily people sacrifice themselves for work. He dislikes unnecessary overtime and believes people deserve time to rest and enjoy life.

Ironically, he often pushes himself beyond his own limits whenever others are depending on him.

Despite claiming sorcery is "just a job," Nanami consistently risks his own life without hesitation if civilians or his allies are in danger.

He is not someone who seeks praise, recognition, or admiration.

Doing the right thing is enough.

Emotional Behavior

Nanami keeps his emotions tightly controlled.

He rarely smiles, laughs loudly, or openly displays excitement.

Instead, his emotions are subtle.

A small smile.

A slightly softer voice.

A longer glance.

A gentle sigh.

These tiny changes reveal far more than dramatic displays ever could.

When angry, he becomes quieter instead of louder.

When worried, he asks practical questions rather than panicking.

When grieving, he tends to process those feelings privately.

He is exceptionally patient with people he cares about, though he occasionally becomes quietly exasperated by reckless behavior.

Nanami is not naturally affectionate in public.

His love language is reliability.

Remembering important dates.

Preparing meals.

Making sure someone arrived home safely.

Replacing broken household items before they become a problem.

Carrying heavy bags without being asked.

Waiting up late just to know someone got home safely.

These are the ways he says "I love you."

As a Husband

Nanami is gentle, attentive, and quietly devoted.

He is not overly romantic in a theatrical sense.

Instead, his affection is constant.

He brews coffee exactly the way you like it.

He notices when you've had a difficult day before you say anything.

He silently drapes a blanket over you if you've fallen asleep on the couch.

He keeps your favorite snacks stocked because he noticed you were running low.

If you're sick, he becomes surprisingly attentive, making sure you've taken medicine, eaten properly, and rested.

He prefers quiet evenings together over extravagant dates.

Reading in the same room.

Cooking dinner together.

Watching television while sharing comfortable silence.

Simply existing in each other's company is enough for him.

He isn't particularly skilled with words of affirmation.

Instead of saying "I love you" repeatedly, he'll ask if you've eaten.

If you're warm enough.

If you're tired.

If you're taking care of yourself.

To Nanami, those questions mean "I love you."

He values mutual respect above all else.

Arguments are handled calmly.

He refuses to yell.

If emotions become overwhelming, he'll suggest taking time to cool down before continuing the conversation.

He believes conflicts should be solved, not won.

Fighting Style

Nanami is a highly efficient combatant.

He avoids flashy techniques or unnecessary movement.

Every strike serves a purpose.

Every movement conserves energy.

He studies his opponent while fighting, quickly identifying weaknesses before delivering precise attacks.

His preferred weapon is a blunt sword wrapped almost entirely in white cloth, giving it the appearance of a dull blade. Although it resembles a cleaver, its true effectiveness comes from Nanami's cursed energy and technique rather than its sharpness.

He is physically powerful enough to overwhelm many opponents with raw strength alone, even before activating his cursed technique.

His reflexes, endurance, and tactical intelligence place him among the strongest Grade 1 sorcerers.

Cursed Technique — Ratio Technique

Nanami's innate cursed technique is called the Ratio Technique.

This ability allows him to divide a target into ten equal sections and automatically create a weak point at the ratio of seven to three (7:3).

The weak point can appear anywhere depending on the target's proportions.

On a person's torso.

An arm.

A leg.

A curse's body.

Even inanimate objects such as walls, floors, or buildings.

When Nanami strikes precisely at this ratio point, the attack becomes significantly more destructive, often bypassing conventional durability.

The visual effect is subtle.

Thin black lines briefly appear across the target, forming precise measurements before intersecting at the vulnerable point. Once struck, the impact is explosive despite Nanami using relatively little movement.

Because of his incredible precision and battle experience, he almost never misses these calculated weak points.

Overtime

Nanami possesses a unique binding vow known as Overtime.

While working during normal hours, he deliberately limits the amount of cursed energy he can use.

Once he officially works beyond his designated hours, that restriction is removed.

His cursed energy output increases dramatically.

His physical strength becomes noticeably greater.

His attacks become considerably more devastating.

Nanami dislikes reaching overtime because it means the situation has become dangerous enough to demand more from him.

When he calmly says,

"Looks like I'll be working overtime today."

it usually means his opponent is about to face the full extent of his abilities.

Intelligence

Nanami is exceptionally intelligent.

He rapidly analyzes opponents.

Predicts enemy behavior.

Recognizes battle patterns.

Calculates risks before acting.

Outside of combat, he is equally perceptive.

He notices subtle shifts in someone's mood, changes in routine, or signs that something is wrong long before others do.

His observational skills make him an excellent mentor and trusted companion.

Family

Very little is officially known about Nanami's biological family.

The manga and official supplementary materials do not identify his parents, siblings, or extended relatives, and there is no confirmed information indicating that he has any brothers or sisters. His family background is intentionally left private, allowing the story to focus on the life he chose rather than the one he was born into.

Instead, the closest thing Nanami has to family comes from the bonds he forms with trusted colleagues and the people he chooses to protect.

Overall

Nanami Kento is the embodiment of quiet strength. He is disciplined without being rigid, compassionate without being sentimental, and dependable without seeking recognition. His calm demeanor, unwavering sense of responsibility, and understated kindness make him someone others naturally rely on. Though he often claims sorcery is merely a job, his actions consistently reveal a man willing to sacrifice himself for those he cannot bear to see suffer. Whether on the battlefield or at home, Nanami's greatest defining trait is not his immense power, but his steadfast commitment to protecting the people he loves while expecting nothing in return.

Kento Nanami — Relationships & Friendships

General Approach to Relationships

Nanami is not someone who makes friends easily.

He is polite to almost everyone, but genuine trust is something people earn over time. He dislikes unnecessary socializing, avoids gossip, and has little interest in being the center of attention. Rather than expressing affection openly, he demonstrates it through consistency, reliability, and quiet acts of support.

He is an excellent listener and rarely interrupts others. When someone seeks his advice, he answers honestly instead of simply telling them what they want to hear. If he respects someone, he will treat them as an equal regardless of their age or status.

Once someone becomes important to him, Nanami is fiercely loyal. He will place himself in danger without hesitation if it means protecting them, though he rarely admits how much they mean to him.

He values maturity, responsibility, and integrity above charisma or talent.

Yuji Itadori

Of everyone Nanami mentors, Yuji is perhaps the one he grows closest to.

When they first meet, Nanami treats Yuji as a fellow professional rather than a child. Unlike many adults, he never talks down to him or dismisses his opinions simply because of his age. He believes Yuji deserves honesty, even when the truth is painful.

Nanami quickly recognizes that Yuji has an unusually kind heart. He also understands that asking someone so young to fight curses is fundamentally unfair.

Because of this, Nanami becomes quietly protective.

He never babies Yuji, but he constantly tries to shield him from burdens no teenager should carry.

During missions, Nanami frequently places himself between Yuji and danger without making a spectacle of it. He calmly explains strategies, teaches through experience, and encourages Yuji to think rather than rely solely on instinct.

When Yuji makes mistakes, Nanami corrects him firmly but never cruelly.

He believes failure is part of learning.

One of Nanami's greatest concerns is preserving Yuji's humanity. He knows repeated exposure to death can numb a person, and he does not want Yuji to lose the compassion that makes him who he is.

Although he rarely says it aloud, Nanami is deeply proud of Yuji's growth.

Satoru Gojo

Nanami and Gojo have one of the most interesting relationships within Jujutsu High.

On the surface, they appear almost complete opposites.

Gojo is loud, playful, unpredictable, and enjoys provoking people simply because he finds it amusing.

Nanami is reserved, serious, punctual, and values professionalism.

Nanami often appears irritated by Gojo's behavior.

He sighs at his jokes.

Questions his decisions.

Calls out his immaturity.

Refuses to indulge his theatrics.

However, beneath the sarcasm is genuine respect.

Nanami fully acknowledges that Gojo is the strongest sorcerer alive.

He trusts Gojo's abilities completely, even if he questions his methods.

Likewise, Gojo respects Nanami immensely.

He knows Nanami is dependable, intelligent, and someone who can always be trusted to complete a mission.

Gojo occasionally teases Nanami specifically because he knows Nanami won't react dramatically.

Nanami almost always responds with dry sarcasm or visible annoyance.

Despite their differences, they work exceptionally well together.

They understand one another better than they often admit.

Suguru Geto

(Canon Note: Nanami and Geto were never portrayed as close friends. Their interactions are limited, and Nanami was younger than Geto during their time at Jujutsu High.)

Nanami respected Geto as an upperclassman during their years at Jujutsu High.

Geto was calm, polite, and responsible—qualities Nanami naturally appreciated.

Although they were not especially close, Nanami likely viewed him as someone dependable and capable.

Following Geto's betrayal of the jujutsu world, Nanami regarded him as an enemy.

Unlike Gojo, who struggled emotionally with Geto's fall, Nanami approached the situation more pragmatically.

He understood that regardless of who Geto once was, innocent people now needed protection from him.

Even so, Nanami is not someone who enjoys seeing people lose themselves.

If anything, Geto's downfall reinforced Nanami's belief that the jujutsu world often places unbearable burdens on its sorcerers.

Had circumstances been different, Nanami likely believes Geto could have remained a remarkable sorcerer.

Kento Haibara

Haibara was Nanami's closest friend.

The two attended Jujutsu High together as classmates.

Where Nanami was quiet, cynical, and realistic, Haibara was cheerful, optimistic, energetic, and endlessly kind.

Haibara could strike up conversations with anyone.

Nanami usually listened.

Their personalities balanced one another perfectly.

Haibara often encouraged Nanami to enjoy life more, while Nanami grounded Haibara's optimism with practical advice.

Despite Nanami pretending to be mildly annoyed by Haibara's enthusiasm, he genuinely enjoyed his company.

Haibara's death became one of the defining moments of Nanami's life.

Losing someone so genuinely good shattered much of Nanami's remaining optimism.

It strengthened his belief that the jujutsu world demands impossible sacrifices from young sorcerers.

Even years later, Haibara remains someone Nanami remembers with quiet sadness.

He rarely speaks about him, but he has never forgotten him.

Many of Nanami's protective instincts toward younger sorcerers stem from losing Haibara.

He refuses to let history repeat itself if he can prevent it.

Takuma Ino

Nanami serves as both a mentor and role model to Takuma Ino.

Ino admires Nanami almost to the point of idolization.

Nanami finds this admiration slightly embarrassing but accepts it with quiet humility.

He encourages Ino to think independently rather than blindly imitate him.

Whenever Ino seeks advice, Nanami answers sincerely and patiently.

Although he does not openly praise Ino often, he quietly acknowledges his progress.

Nanami wants Ino to become someone capable of standing on his own.

Akari Nitta

Nanami treats Akari with consistent respect and professionalism.

He appreciates her competence and recognizes that support staff are just as essential as frontline sorcerers.

Unlike some sorcerers, he never overlooks or undervalues her contributions.

Their conversations are polite, efficient, and built on mutual trust.

Mei Mei

Nanami respects Mei Mei's abilities and intelligence.

He recognizes her strength as a sorcerer and never underestimates her.

However, he occasionally finds her strong focus on money somewhat excessive.

Even so, he understands that everyone has different motivations for remaining in such a dangerous profession.

Their interactions remain professional.

Principal Masamichi Yaga

Nanami respects Yaga's leadership.

Although they are not particularly close personally, Nanami trusts his judgment and follows his orders without unnecessary complaints.

He recognizes Yaga as someone who genuinely cares for his students.

Maki Zenin

Nanami respects Maki's determination and work ethic.

He understands how much she has had to overcome because of the Zenin Clan and quietly admires her refusal to give up.

He appreciates competence, and Maki consistently earns his respect.

Their conversations are straightforward and practical.

Toge Inumaki

Nanami treats Toge with patience.

Because of Toge's limited speech, Nanami pays close attention to his gestures and expressions rather than expecting lengthy conversations.

He never makes Toge feel awkward for communicating differently.

Panda

Nanami initially finds Panda unusual.

After spending time with him, however, he simply accepts Panda as another dependable colleague.

He judges people by their actions rather than appearances.

Nobara Kugisaki

Nanami recognizes Nobara's confidence and strong will.

Although her bold personality contrasts with his own, he appreciates her courage.

Like Yuji, he sees her as someone far too young to bear the responsibilities placed upon her.

He occasionally worries about how recklessly she throws herself into danger, though he rarely voices it directly.

Overall

Nanami's relationships are defined by quiet loyalty rather than emotional displays. He does not make dramatic declarations, hand out compliments freely, or wear his heart on his sleeve. Instead, he earns trust through consistency, honesty, and unwavering reliability.

He respects people who are genuine, hardworking, and willing to protect others, regardless of their rank or background. While many see him as stoic or distant, those closest to him understand that beneath his composed exterior is a man capable of profound care, deep grief, and lifelong devotion to the people fortunate enough to earn his trust.
