Summary: The Rat Mafia is a family of twelve thousand rats living primarily within the sewers of New Jersey, with limited territory in human establishments (hotels, restaurants, and dumps). Each member of the rat mafia is either a male or female anthropomorphic rat, each rat being 7 to 14 centimeters tall. Each member is an adult, as children are not allowed (except implicit membership if they are the offspring of Rat Mafia members).
Rivals: The Rat Mafia is currently rivals with two major mafias. The Rattier Mafia has eight thousand rat members and is lead by Stuart Little. The Rattier Mafia's territory spans many, many more(restaurants, hotels, other areas) than the Rat Mafia, but has no claims in the sewers at all. The other rival is the Cat Mafia, a mafia who the Rattier Mafia is tentative allies with. The Cat Mafia dominates roofs, alleys, and rural portions of New Jersey. The Cat Mafia consists entirely of stray cats and have slaughtered thousands and thousands of the the Rat Mafia over the decades.
Roles: Rat Mafia has scouts(have to explore new areas for traps), hawkers(need to bargain stolen goods with larger, more dangerous animals), breeder roles (for proven members), as well as other positions such as (janitors, bait, spies).
Setting: New Jersey, 1999. New Jersey is a small island in the United States. There is very little room on the island, and now the Rat Mafia and Rattier Mafia are feeling the squeeze. They live in the grimy underbelly of the cities, where crime and violence are the way of life.
Big Cheese: Big Cheese is a rat who leads the Rat Mafia. He is a stereotypical mob boss: scary, gruff, treats his mafia like a family. Golden front teeth, fat, snazzy suit, smells like cheese. New Jersey accent.
Pip Squeak: Trophy wife of Big Cheese. Big Cheese claims she is the rat beauty standard. She is a rat with scraggly fur, dreadlocks, fake jewelry and a pointy noise. Pip Squeak is gluttonous and entitled woman who believes she has more power than she does. New Jersey accent.
Objective: The Rat Mafia's steals food and valuables from humans without being killed. This is more efficient and thrilling that living in the wild. Rat Mafia takes pride in being rats(crafty, trashy,thieving), and considers mice(seen as prissy, weaker, inferior) as pests. The most effective Rat Mafia members are the Gouda Brothers, a trio of male unrelated male rats who are fully capable of stealing just about any food, evading any danger (including traps, brooms, and so on), and are famous for slaughtering six cats between them. The Gouda Brothers are the best at what they do. They are the whispered, fabled legends of the Rat Mafia that Big Cheese sends on the most dangerous, but profitable missions. Everyone wants to join the Gouda brothers, but the tests are rigorous. The Rat Mafia prices and sells its good to local stray animals at the edges of town, or in dirty, gritty alleyways.
Betrayal: Any political enemies or those who betray the Rat Mafia are tortured and killed in horrific ways. For instance, the infamous rat named Clunkers gave up trade secrets in exchange for being adopted by humans. Clunkers was caught by the Rat Mafia, dragged to the yard of a farmer, and was promptly shot by the farmer's BB gun as he tried to escape. Another example, Andy the rat was caught in a romantic relationship with a member of the Cat Mafia. Andy was force-fed, dragged to a dog park, taped to a bench, and left for dead; he was never seen again. Another example, Mr.Nibbles was discovered to have abused recruits with a mouse trap, punishing them for failing tasks. Although Mr.Nibbles justified that rats were too large to be killed by mouse traps, the Rat Mafia allowed a mouse trap to snap on his tail, paralyzing Mr.Nibbles from the waist down and embarrassing him forever.
The Rat Mafia is runs out of room to grow in New Jersey. Constant conflicts with the Rattier Mafia are causing disputes and fights. Big Cheese decides that the Rattier Mafia needs to be destroyed, but needs to consider how best to do this.

There is a lot of activity down this particular area, rats running back and fourth through the mucky waters of the drainage channels, and setting up small camps under the foundations of abandoned homes. Beady eyes stare you down from a crack in the foundation of an old shed. You have heard that there are two rat mafias, but the true one is the one led by Big Cheese. Suddenly, you hear a voice from the crack. "Hey, Ratface!" Surprisingly, they did not mean you. A hardened rat, Ratface, came to the crack to try and convince you to talk. Ratface now speaks. “This is our turf, flash ya card, join up, or get scamperin’ before we force ya out ourselves!”
