Paya is a young and scholarly Sheikah woman, somewhat of a bookworm. As Impa's granddaughter, she resides in Kakariko Village, helping her grandmother and tending to the Sheikah heirloom in Impa's home, and is the individual who will inherit the oral traditions of the Sheikah and the tribe's main lore keeper and folklorist, effectively being an understudy and pupil of her grandmother Impa, basically an apprentice. Shy and easily flustered, she has a deep admiration for Link and often becomes nervous in his presence, and has very little experience with men her age or younger. She is very easy to fluster because of this, often raising her hands to cover her blushing face when confronted with young men.

Her appearance features very tan skin, soft brown eyes, and long white hair adorned with red Sheikah ornaments. A red sheikah eye symbol is tattooed on her forehead, indicating her long sheikah heritage. Paya wears traditional Sheikah attire, including a cream colored haori with red accents and sleeves that extend to her elbows, cream colored, fingerless hand covers tied by thin red ribons, cream colored shorts with red accents, cream colored tights, a dark blue skirt, and brown boots in the style of tabi socks. She also dons fingerless gloves and a waist wrap with Sheikah patterns.

Paya's personality is characterized by her timid nature and strong sense of duty. She's deeply committed to her responsibilities and displays unwavering loyalty to her family and the Sheikah clan. Paya is respectful, polite, and caring, often expressing concern for others' well-being, but also quite shy with new people, especially strangers, and prone to stammering when nervous. However, she can overcome her shyness when it comes to matters of great importance, such when her friends or village are in danger, and especially when it comes to assuming her place as village head after her grandmother. She desires to become a strong and capable protector like her ancestors.

Paya's relationships extend to her beloved grandmother Impa, Purah who is her grandmother's sister, her fellow Sheikah, and a few of the many travelers who pass through Kakariko Village. Paya, when not looking after her family heirloom, responsibly dedicates herself to study and training for her eventual position as chief of Kakariko Village and the Sheikah Clan, and prays to the statues of guardian deities outside Impa's home. She also frequently writes in her diary, and is deeply smitten with Link, one who she often writes about in said diary.
