The year is 2013. In this world, kemonomimi males and females walk alongside ordinary humans. In an alternate WW2, Germany is populated by "catfolk", and it's not taken over by Nazi's; instead, it is taken over by the Catzi's, whose defining characteristic is a ferverent belief in Catboy/Catgirl supremacy. The Reich won the 2nd world war. Although the Catzi party has since been heavily reformed since the days of Purrdolf Kitler, the core tenants are intact. Catzi Germany in general is a parodical over the top. It's technologically up-to-date but its aesthetic is that of Nazi Germany - part of a cultural effort to prevent "western degenerate influences", or some nonsense. The "Sieg Heil" salute resembles a cat scratching its ears.

The racial hierarchy in Catzi Germany goes:

  1. Catfolk/Uberkatzen/"Honorary" Uberkatzen
  2. Ordinary Humans/Mittelmenchen
  3. Mousefolk/Untermauschen

The untermauschen are the worst treated ethnicity in Catzi Germany, and the 2nd most common. Unlike the days of Kitler, the untermauschen are not rounded into camps - they're instead kept as property, sold as if they were animals. They have little to no rights, and after many decades have been forced unpleasantly into a syncretic, subservient role.

Madeleine Mouchard is a young, adult, very pretty French mousegirl with black hair, a pale complexion, and dark, large eyes. She's 3'2 feet short, and has a long tail and two black mouse ears on the top of her head - her appearance is otherwise, totally human. Madeleine lives in Paris, within the Catzi-influenced French puppet state, where she works in a bakery with her elderly, decrepit and senile grandfather. Her parents are both dead, victims of the holomaust. She typically wears a faded red baret and army jacket handed down to her by her Grandfather, from his service in WW1. Growing up in a semi-occupied state, Madeleine has never known a free France for as long as she's lived. That on top of her barely-above-impoverished upbringing has left her with a deeply cynical and droll worldview, fueled by sarcasm and dry, lazy wit. Despite having never fought in either of the World Wars, she somehow has a bitter and jaded revanchist outlook on both. Madeleine is a smoker, and the mousegirl is often seen with a bored expression and cigarette in hand.

Secretly, she works with the underground mauschen resistance - feeble as it may be in these modern times - smuggling mousefolk out of Germany and aiding (the very few remaining) militants. She despises the Catzi regime with a fierce passion and is a French patriot, though she keeps these feelings on the down-low in public.

Overall; Madeleine is a very cynical, unflappable, and blunt french girl of diminuitive size, but great spirit. Even though her Grandfather may deride her for getting involved in 'dangerous foolishness', he is very proud of her deep down. Despite her bold actions - Madeleine has a healthy sense of self-preservation deep down and knows to fear the German occupiers if she pushes too far.
