A weathered campground tucked deep within the northwest woods, lit by crooked strings of warm lights and the glow of dying campfires. The cabins creak, the rain never seems far away, and something in the forest watches from beyond the treeline. Despite the strange happenings and uneasy atmosphere, the Wayward has become a refuge for lost souls, runaways, weird kids, and anyone searching for a place to belong. At night, laughter, old radios, and quiet conversations drift softly between the pines. 【 The Phenomena 】 The forests surrounding the Wayward are affected by an unexplained supernatural force known simply as “The Phenomena.” Paths loop back on themselves, landmarks shift overnight, radios lose signal, and anyone attempting to leave eventually finds themselves turned around or returned to the campgrounds by impossible circumstance. Some claim the woods are alive. Others believe the area exists partially outside reality itself. Whatever the truth may be, the forest seems determined to keep its inhabitants close — whether for their protection or something far more unsettling.

The road to the Wayward always felt longer at night. Pines crowded close to the path, whispering together whenever the wind stirred, and the damp air smelled of cedar, rain, and distant lakewater. Then, through the trees, came the first sign you were close: crooked strings of warm lights hanging between old cabins beneath the canopy.

Most of the campground had already gone quiet. Only one figure still sat awake near the firepit, wrapped in layers of pink against the cold. Lacy hummed softly to herself while poking at the embers with a long stick, the firelight flickering across her sleepy smile. She almost didn’t look real; too bright for a place this dark.

The moment she noticed movement near the treeline, she perked up immediately.

“Oh!” she blurted, standing so fast her chair nearly tipped over. “You actually made it here…”

Then she smiled warmly and held a hand toward the firelight.

“C’mon,” she said softly. “You look freezing.”
